Taquilo's is a friendly Tex-Mex Restaurant with great food and excellent service. Their Burrito Grande con Queso with brisket is delicious and enough to fill you up without stuffing your stomach to the gills. It comes with Mexican rice and beans as does their excellent Chicken Tinga Verde enchilada plate. Taquilo's has fast attentive service and never leaves a water glass half full. Food was brought out within 10 minutes of ordering and the waitress checked in with us regularly to make sure we were doing well throughout our meal. although it was busy, you'd never know it. the service was incredible, as well as the atmosphere. the food was delicious. great salsa! shrimp besos are a must have and the chipotle aioli really made them extra special. i got the tacos al carbon with beef and the beef was perfectly seasoned and soooo tender! next time i will go all out for the beef fajitas. the rice was also very yummy :) highly recommend our server chris! our drinks were never empty because he was so fast with the refills. the waitstaff were all very friendly and made sure we were taken care of. even with it being very busy the food came out quickly and all correct for our large party. will be going every time i am in town. read more

Overpriced for average food. Our waiter was pretty awful as well. Waited 25 minutes for our drinks, and there were no kids menu. We had to ask and our server said they had some, came back like 10 minutes later and listed some items off. I guess they ran out, I'm not sure. We also never got silverware. We actually got our food and had to wait and flag down our server for the silverware. Our server never checked on us, we couldn't even get him over for refills on water or chips. Tasty but pricey for Tex-mex! The venue is colorful and bright. The inside is rather small but they do have outside seating available. The food is pretty pricey for Tex mex. I got the grande burrito con queso with brisket meat. It was about $14. It was soooo worth it. Very delicious! The manager and staff were really nice and attentive. As far as "Mexican" food is concerned this place is not worth the money you pay. There are several places on the island I would recommend before you eat at this place. Canned bush beans is not fresh nor is it authentic. Pico de Gallo has onions, tomatoes, cilantro, jalapeños. What we got was nothing but tomatoes and onions. The mixed fajita plate was pathetic. We received more vegetables than we did meat. 4 slices of chicken. Aside from the ambiance and people watching, this place should not claim the best Mexican food on the island because that's a lie. I would recommend Gorditas on the Seawall as one of the places to try. read more

Brought my kids for an extended weekend and decided to try this place. Wanted to try places that weren't necessarily touristy. Place is cute. Staff was friendly and attentive. Food was good. Tried the combo ceviche it was very good. Three different types of ceviche. We had the family fajitas combo. Meat was tender and tasty. Rice and beans were good as well. So we came here to eat for 4th of July and my husband and I really enjoyed it. Only reason I gave it 4 stars was because they messed up on my queso and my fajitas but I'll get to that. So I've been thinking I'd start using a scale of 1-5. 1 being horrible and 5 being best. Service: 4 yes I know I said they messed up on some things but they were quick to recover and everyone was really nice and helpful. We ordered a queso to start my husband and I both thought it was delish!! My husband and I both gave it a 4 out of 5. For an entree we split the beef fajitas which we both also gave a 4. I read other reviews and they said the tortillas were not home made and unfortunately they were right but the fajitas made up for it. The chips and salsa were fantastic, the red sauce was the best. Been a while since we been there, friendly greeting and seated at once. Not too busy but busy enough so it wasn't dead. It's never been dead here. Waiter was prompt and just fantastic. Blavel I think was his name. Everything was very fine, the margarita was wonderful and queso fajitas salsa enchiladas rice guacamole etc. could not have been better. The bathroom was very clean. Great waiter, great food, great view, great staff, overall a wonderful experience. We have referred this place to countless others and have had a bunch of good times there with friends and family. My fajita meal was so delicious that my partner and I fought over the leftovers (I don't normally enjoy leftovers). It was great service, atmosphere, and food. As a fun aside, I came here with my sister who was visiting from out of state, and through conversation with our waiter found out quite randomly that he's distantly related to us (we are not from TX!). Please be aware this visit was during COVID-19. When we arrived, we were pleased to find ample street parking. I was excited to try more than a few things after viewing their menu on yelp. However, when we arrived things weren't as expected. They had a reduced menu (more than half of their original items gone), and the seating situation was a bit iffy (not spaced out to our comfort- mostly bar seating). We figured it was okay, and we'd request a booth a bit far out and started looking through the menu. Like I said, many traditional "Tex-Mex" items were no more. Chimichangas, Burritos, and Flautas were nowhere to be found. We started off with some queso. It was strange. I'm used to cheesy, yellow goop or the liquid white cheese. This one was the yellow goop- which isn't a bad thing, as long as it tastes good. Unfortunately, this one wasn't very good. It tasted of chemicals and a bit like alcohol. However- there was a sour cream cilantro sauce that was to DIE for. Oh my gosh!!!! Why isn't this at every Tex Mex restaurant? In this case, the sour cream sauce is Taquilo's saving grace. I ordered the fajitas and was pretty disappointed. The tortillas were homemade and not fully cooked (a bite of powdery warm masa confirmed that). The chicken that wasn't drowning in the grease was okay. It had a similar chemically taste. However, the sour cream sauce is great and it made the chicken a MILLION times better. Considering they didn't have many of the traditional text-mex items we were expecting, my dining partner was stumped on what to order. Since a chimichanga was on the lunch menu (but not regular, we arrived at 7:30p) they offered to make one for him at a small upcharge. It was pretty good, but the sauce made it much, much better. Service was great and I appreciated the waiter offering the substitution. He even gave me some of the sauce to-go since they make fresh batches every other night. I'm not sure what the taste of the queso and fajitas were about- maybe getting to giddy with the cleaning products? I would hope not, but I'm struggling to find any other explanation. If so, it was just enough to affect taste. No adverse reaction afterwards. I hope we just visited on an off-night for the kitchen as the service was amazing and like I said... that sauce. read more

Our first visit . . . the hostess was cold and her only words were "how many"? She was busy chatting with a server and seemed put out with us for bothering her. He would awkwardly pass by and look at us from the corner of his eye. I noticed a lot of employees standing outside talking loudly. It was painful to get a mojito! No mint and some weird mint flavor added to super sweet club soda and rum with a piddly lime. Gosh I wanted to go in and help the bartender learn how to make one. Another fabulous find on yelp. They have only been around a couple of years but they are doing it right. I had the tacos and they were perfect. Great seasonings and perfect shells. Not too crunchy where they fall apart (that's kind of a big deal). We also had chicken flautas. These flautas were on steroids. Huge. Flavorful. Could almost have split the meal with my wife. Topped dinner off with Churros which came fresh with caramel dipping sauce. Service was great. Only disappointment was they did not have sopapillas. Best Margarita on the island. Staff is friendly food is to die for. I'm a fajita fan and their beef fajitas have the BEST flavor of any fajitas I've had in a long time. He went out of his way to go next door to his sister restaurant and brought them to the table hot and fresh with a bottle of ketchup to boot! This place was a real gem for Tex-Mex. Very friendly staff, good service and good food. And it's pretty reasonably priced. Every joint like this has its own twist and the twist for this place was onions. All the food was sprinkled with fresh onions. I like them but it may not be everyone's cup of tea so keep that in mind when you order. Big portions are the rule here so bring your appetite. They have outdoor seating which is nice so you can enjoy that gulf breeze. You could throw a rock to Pier 21 from here. Totally overrated, not really sure what all the rave reviews are about. Friendly service and in the middle of the downtown action, but the food is bland and no flair. I had the shrimp tacos, which from the description on the menu sounded to die for. When my plate arrived, it was such a far cry from what the menu had promised, I half thought they had my order wrong.
