Last year, my building landlord/supervisor hired Tara Pro Paint to do a lead (paint) abatement job in my apartment. Brian and Tara Pro Paint left construction dust and multiple large paint chips (both lead hazards!) behind which I find unacceptable since they were hired to reduce the risk of lead exposure not increase exposure to it. I also moved my furniture to the kitchen where work wasn't being done to protect the furniture but afterwards it was clear from the patterns in the dust that they were placing items (probably their tools) on the furniture. I emailed them photos and asked for an explanation of the construction dust but never received a response despite multiple follow ups over several weeks. I would not recommend Tara Pro Painting to anyone. read more

I used Tara Pro Painting (with owner Brian) as the lead for a large multi-unit building (both interior and exterior) in 2006. It was quite expensive ~ $30K+ back then. It was not the cheapest bid, but the reviews (on Angie's List, at the time) were positive, and I thought it was worth it to invest in a good, high quality paint job for the long run - so I went with Tara Pro. I regretted it almost immediately. Everything from Brian's temperament - which seemed to swing from charming salesperson to defensive "don't ask any questions, I'm the pro" indignation - to the quality and longevity of the job were not good. His crew rushed through the job, sloppily sprayed on the paint using without cleaning the exterior and was defensive when my professional painter friend asked whether they were planning to clean the building before painting. Also, this is something that I specifically asked about during the "sell" job and was reassured by Brian that it would be done. Well, it wasn't done, and within a year, the paint started bubbling, and we had to spend $thousands to have the paint scraped off and re-done. Oh - also - Brian became rude when I asked that his workers not track paint dust and debris on the interior rugs of the apartment building. read more

I'm really happy with these guys. Vinnie and his crew at Tara Pro painting did an excellent job restoring and staining our deck,which had gone through the winter without any stain. (Yes,my bad.) They showed up on time, were courteous and professional, and setup efficiently to contain all the dust they were going to create from sanding. They were organized and well-equipped -- plenty of sandpaper and good sanders. No running off to the hardware store because they forgot something. They worked hard, for a day and a half straight getting the color of the decks to just about good as new, then worked quickly to apply just the right amount of stain. The deck looks great, and we're stoked... just in time for BBQs. Oh, wait, we live in the Richmond. At least it will be nice to look at while sipping a hot chocolate in August. read more

RE: Tara Pro Painters, San Francisco, CA I cannot recommend Tara Pro highly enough! Brian and his team made a potentially painful job relatively easy. The staff is professional, the cost fair, and the guys are honest and work hard. They took care of all of the details, including city permits, and included me in the decisions. They rock. The project was a 100-year old three-unit building that had previously undergone a poor exterior renovation. The paint was peeling and the exterior trim was rotted, because the previous contractor had used interior-grade wood for the exterior trim and done an inferior paint job. I needed expert carpentry and painters on a small business owner's budget. Brian, the owner, gave me a fair and competitive bid. His company has a long history of restoring SF homes and was recommended by my local apartment association. We did not know how extensive the damage was, and Brian proposed that the carpentry be done on a time-and-materials basis. Once the scaffolding was up, he provided an accurate estimate of the time and materials required. TaraPro's carpentry team foreman, Tommy, knows his carpentry. His experience and understanding of old buildings made choosing trim easy. The result was an expertly conceived restoration. Tommy and Brian asked me what I wanted, then went to the lumber yard and had it delivered. The trim was installed and tightly sealed within two weeks --- front, side and rear. Billing was done professionally. I was given copies of all receipts and time sheets. No surprises! Brian and crew were helpful when it came to selecting colors. The resulting scheme was understated and tasteful with accents in key places. It is a different building--weathertight, finished with high-quality paint, and looking beautiful. Great experience working with Brian and his team. We hired Tara Pro to paint a 9-unit condo building in Russian Hill. After receiving multiple bids, Tara came in competitively priced and after driving around to see several buildings they had painted recently, we selected them (it was easy to tell the difference between their work and work of bids that came in $5K-$10K below. That said, their worked matched bids that came in $10K above). They finished ahead of schedule, Vinnie (the foreman) was helpful/always available to chat/and gave honest input on colors/layouts, they were super accommodating, the entire crew was friendly, they cleaned up at the end of each day and most importantly- our building looks amazing. When re-finishing the garage door Bryan made a great suggestion to re-finish it with a protective oil rather than re-varnish it. It was cheaper than varnish and looks so much nicer! Sorry, I cannot give them a good review. We used them long ago for a very large paint job on a building and we found them difficult to work with as the job went on, especially at the end when we were finding small things that they missed, etc.. But the real reason for this review is that we are already seeing (years later) the paint start to separate from the bonding/fixing job and bubbling up. For such a big expensive job that we hired them to do, I am not pleased with this already happening. A good paint job should last at least 10 yrs. Maybe we were the exception for these guys but unfortunately that was our experience. read more

We are delighted with the exterior paint job of our spendid Julia Morgan mansion in San Francisco..Brian sent us an expert crew .These painters were not only hard working and professional, but a joy to have around. Our home has alot of activity with traffic coming and going, but nothing seemed to bother them. For such a large job, they met our demanding deadline and budget. They had a supervisor on the job every day and and helped with color selection for all the detail work. Usually, when you refer a sub-contractor to a client they don't make the effort to follow up with a phone call to say thank you, (everyone is busy) but they almost always do in regards to Tara Pro.
