Being a San Diego native it is hard for me to eat Mexican food outside of southern California. This happens to be my step-mom's favorite Mexican restaurant since she moved up to Rogue River and whenever my wife and I visit we usually go to Tarasco. The food is definitely sub par, even when compared to non-Mexican restaurants. We went last week and my wife said the beans tasted old and I kind of agree with her. The staff seems withdrawn. The menu has typical Mexican dishes but none of them really impress. Sometimes you'll find an item that is decent but then one of the sides or something else will usually mar the experience. My favorite place for good, authentic Mexican food & delicious margaritas. I grew up in RR & have never had a bad experience here. Juan & staff are so friendly and always give exceptional service, even when they're busy, which is often. I recommend a blended raspberry margarita & carne asada tacos. Growing up in Southern California I realize I have high standards to meet for Mexican Food. I was delighted when moving to Rogue River to find there was a Mexican restaurant in-town, but greatly disappointed when dining there. The staff was attentive and the food was served quickly but tasted horrible! I ordered shredded taco's, thinking that this menu item would be hard to screw up. Boy was I wrong, I still have no idea what the meat was but it was a grey color and rather chewy, it was completely inedible. The beans and rice were at least edible but that's about the best that can be said about them. The restaurant was about half full of what seemed to be locals, the only explanation I can surmise about what keeps the locals coming back is the "Strong Margaritas" mentioned in other reviews. I supposed after a few strong drinks the quality of the food becomes less important. read more

Hands down the worst Mexican food we've ever eaten. Now granted we are from Arizona, but this was just bad. Crab enchiladas had shells in it and wasn't eaten (refund was given) and the shredded beef was tasteless. Won't be back! read more

We ordered the daily special, Chicken Fajita Burrito and a Taco Salad with shredded beef. There were three servers on Monday night. The host was not smiling, just grabbed two menus and sat us in the farthest darkest corner by the bar window and took off without any suggestion or okay. We re-seated ourselves in a booth by a window and we asked if it was okay and got a gruff okay. The food was just okay, uninspired Anglo style, Where we got in trouble was the taco salad. It came in a fried tortilla shell with some Guacamole and Sour Cream on top as one would expect. But the beef was hard chunks, very little was shredded. I found a sharp piece of bone, but managed to eat most of it. Our server was pleasant and efficient. It would be nice if they were warm and welcoming. But so it goes in a small town sometimes and we try to patronize local business. There were about four other tables of local and most seemed to be enjoying some cocktails. Our problem came about an hour after leaving. The worst stomach pain followed by ongoing retching and pains that lasted almost two days. It was awful! To make matters worse, we took some home. Inside was another bone fragment and a 3/8" pebble! Images of meat being dropped in the driveway then served to guests came to mind. Whatever happened, we were very sick and found a rock in the food. A few days later, after recovering, we went back to talk to Juan the manager. He listened and was pleasant and even offered to repay our bill and for medications. However, we just asked him to promise to check the handling of food and makes sure it never happens. We did not accept the offer to pay the bill, we were not after money. Juan was nice and concerned and more pleasant than the help. We hope it does not happen to others. Do not go there unless you want to play Chipotle Roulette! It's a hit or miss place. Some things on the menu are really good while others are not. Do not get the chicken and rice that has tomato sauce, it is awful and drenched with plain tomato sauce. Instead, I would recommend the burritos and quesadillas. read more

Horrible service and inconsistency. Been here the times as I live right down the street. First time was great, excellent food, outstanding service and friendly atmosphere. Returned two weeks later, empty restaurant but waited 45 minutes for our food. Food was mediocre at best. Went again tonight giving them the benefit of doubt. Walked in, one table sitting plus an older gal eating chips and drinking a margy. Empty otherwise. Was sat, given chips and water and that's it.. 28 minutes later, no order was taken for food or drinks. Got up to leave and Juan was just leaning on a chair drinking something and watching TV.. Told him I'm done waiting for him to take my order. He talked a little shit as I left. Went across the bridge to the taqueria and it was so packed that people were waiting outside. I think there's a good reason for that. Will never return ever despite them being quite literally in my backyard. Go to the taqueria the Best Western and let these folks fail like they deserve to. read more

My wife and I stopped in Rogue River for the night while on our way from our home in Sonoma county (just north of San Francisco) to Portland. Mexican food in Oregon? My family and I have been coming to Tarasco for over 20 years. The quality of food and service makes it a consistently great experience, and Juan is an attentive and hardworking owner who really cares about his patrons. From the complimentary chips and salsa to our favorite entrées, we have never once been disappointed -- only delighted by our meals. Our go-to is their Carne Asada and Carne Asada burrito. We've not found better, even during lots of time spent searching for it in San Diego. Their Albondigas (soup) is a delicious and inexpensive meal that's perfect during cold weather. Pollo Asado and Pollo a la Crema are awesome too. Even the rice and beans are delicious and not just obligatory. Though we live far away now, when visiting southern Oregon we ALWAYS carve out time to enjoy a dinner at Tarasco. read more

We met with a party of approx. 22 people on a weeknight for a birthday celebration. Juan the owner was our waiter and server. He took all of the orders without writing them done. Juan brought all of the meals out and set them in the proper places I had a beef and and bean burrito which was excellent. For the amount of people and on a weeknight the food and service was "Juanderful". Thanks Juan for a job well done. We will return. read more

I had the Camarones Tarasco and was not expecting to have one of the most delicious meals I have had in a very long time. The shrimp, mushrooms, rice and onions and were cooked perfectly and the seasoning was incredible. It was late, I was tired and just passing thru and expecting nothing more than a ho-hum Mexican dinner. What I got was a stunning dish that made my whole evening. Went here on sunday I expected best chef to be off and not enough employees Wrong !!! We had GREAT SERVICE and on sunday surprise Food was also very good I was pleasantly surprised Good quality food very tasty and plently of it more than what I could eat But main thing is taste and all our food had a very good taste they dont skimp on the meats either, the mexican rice was very good refried beans also very good the chicken was very moist and tasty We will be back and soon read more

After finding this on yelp we were a little unsure, but pleasantly surprised. My dad had the shrimp enchilada which was average, not something someone would necessarily go back for, but my mom and I were delighted with our meals. My mom had the albondiga (a Mexican meatball soup) which she thought was fantastic. I had the chicken fajitas which were superb. The chicken had a fabulous marinade; very tasty. At the end of our meal we got a complementary treat, the people were very nice and friendly. Overall, very good although it may depend on what you get. Definitely worth going back to. read more

We loved the food and service and had been going there at least once a week for 15 years. However, they advertise a 1/2 off on second meal on Mon, Tues & wens. They never honor it unless you ask for it. We took two different couples with us last year and they never honored it for them and us and were rude to our friends. We will not go back. A shame because we did like the food but not to honor an advertised product and rudeness is not an option for us. read more

Tarasco's is our favorite Mexican restaurant in the valley. The service is always top-notch and very quick. We love their combination plates, fajitas, and their shrimp dishes. I happened onto this place while on a road trip to Eugene. What a find. The food is outstanding and the service is top notch. I have stopped there five times now and each time has been outstanding. I USED to like coming here, but not anymore. I was in there a couple weeks ago with my husband and I could tell right away that something was off with the staff. I was being glared at by a wispy, young, short-haired, girl every time she walked by my table and my waitress was less than pleasant. I figured they were just having a bad night. Everyone is entitled to a bad night here and there so I shrugged it off. I have been there a few times before and every other time has been really pleasant. We even spent my Father in Laws last Birthday there and a surprise Birthday party for my husband after that. Anyway- I went there again tonight 1/6/17 with my husband and son and again, and again the same wispy, short-haired, girl was glaring at me at every pass and again the same waitress seemed to have a problem with me. You could make a burrito out of the tension whenever she came to our table. She was less than friendly and even though the restaurant was nearly empty, she seemed like she had no time for us. I finally mentioned to my husband that the young girl appeared to think she knew me or something because she wasn't even trying to hide her passive aggressive facial expressions. Anyway, a little while after I mentioned this to my husband the waitress came over to me and said she needed to ask me a question. I was like...sure, no problem, fire away. Then she proceeded to question me about some coupons I had brought in before. I was immediately taken aback. I don't have time for coupons, I am not that motivated to save a few cents, like...no lady you clearly have the wrong Seniorita. This girl does not do coupons. Whatever interaction they had with doppelganger coupon lady must not have been good for them to treat me with the cold indifference that they did tonight. She stared into my face and I could tell she was not convinced that I am not the offender, then made some comment about the other lady having different hair and walked away without apology.....Sad thing is, I always try to be super nice to anyone who works in customer service or food service industry. I know how assholian people can be because I too work in customer service. With that said, tonight's utter rudeness really hit me in the feels. I will never go back. NO more birthdays there. I don't think they give a rats ass anyway seeing how they think I am someone that I am not. But when the real coupon lady comes in, I hope they feel sheepish. Spent 50 bucks plus a 10 dollar tip tonight. Never again. read more

Cinco de Mayo was great at Tarasco's! As always, the food was excellent as always. Service was very, very good considering how very, very busy they were. The atmosphere was so much fun...music, singing, pictures being snapped, and a free t-shirt. This was the place to be in Rogue River last night. Juan and his Staff really make you feel welcome. Service was slow, should have been a warning from the beginning, although the waitress was nice. My husband had the Chile Verde and had absolutely no flavor and tasted like it came from a can and perhaps even watered down. The beans were good.
