Tarka is delicious. The only reason that it doesn't get more stars is because it can be very inconsistent. I say 3/5 times our experience is great (I'm only talking about the food. The customer service is always great.). The other 2/5 times the food tastes like it was leftovers from the previous day. The main example is there tika masala. It is delicious when they come correct but quite often we've gotten a greasy bowl with just a few pieces of our choice protein (usually lamb). I want to love you Tarka. Help me love you! read more

I really love their chicken tikka masala but unfortunately they keep burning their naan. I love ordering take out but I keep getting disappointed when I go to open up the naan and see that 80 percent of the naan is burnt. I want to give this restaurant 5 stars but their naan is becoming consistently burnt in every order. If you want to order take out please check your naan to make sure it isn't burnt like the naan in this picture. However, I didn't have any problems with burnt naan when ordering for sit down. When I first became vegan, I stayed alive on a diet of smoothies and Indian food from Tarka. I am writing mostly to thank them for having several excellent, clearly marked vegan dishes. As far as I know they have always taken it seriously and had these vegan dishes on their menu. The Channa Masala is fantastic, among my favorite Indian dishes ever (and I have had a few) but the Dal is another frequent order for me. Gobi Aloo is vegan and excellent and sometimes when feeling like more veggies I get the coconut curry with extra vegetables. The samosas are vegan. Oh my god this is not even real Indian food! Unfortunately what they are trying to do for the most part is change fine dining dishes into a fast/street recipe but its just not working out. Indian street food and fine dining dishes are SO different on SO many levels. They are serving biryani by "stir frying" it for 2 mins which is so wrong and so bad to taste. And even the chicken pakora I had here which is actually a street food is also really bad- chicken dipped in thick tasteless batter and fried. Their lamb korma is my absolute favorite, then add that to the mango lassi and garlic naan = great meal. I've eaten here several times and haven't been disappointed. Although the ticket had the order correct we were missing the following items: Rita 3 sides of rice One order of Veggie Samosas only had one samosa in it instead of two. So, I think the food was great, great presentation, friendly staff, loved the ambiance of the place. However, I don't particularly care for sweet Tikka Masala, I prefer a more spicy bland taste hence the 3 star rating. Prices were reasonable, a drink, meal, and garlic naan came up to about $15. Very disappointed. I was excited about trying this place tonight but much left to be desired. Service and food was definitely below average. We ordered and sat and waited for about thirty minutes for our appetizer nothing ever came out. So we asked the yong lady (manager I assume) . She seemed to be confused and overwhelmed. Ambience- this is the newest store of the chain that is located in the middle of a shopping center. The decor is a nice bright orange, black and yellow with pictures of Indian people on the streets. There is also a really small patio outside of you wish to sit in the sun. It is an open kitchen style so you can see the people making your food. The was obviously very clean and nice. There is lots of seating but it is kinda packed together. So if you go during the peak you may have to rub elbows with strangers Menu - menu is broken down into 4 main categories. Naaninis (which is almost like a panini but with Indian stuff inside), kabobs, curry dishes and biryanis (which is a basmati rice bowl). They do also have a few other items on the menu like salads, soups and naan. They also bolstered a unique soda company (cant remember the name) but it is a different take on sodas. Like orange hibiscus. The way the menu works is you choose your protein then your spice level. I thought this was kinda neat since most places certain sauces are spicy and some are not. So any sauce can be chosen even if you don't like super spicy food. Almost all the items on the menu are or can be made vegetarian which is nice if your that kind of person. But I like dead animal meat, so no real appeal there for me. Pretty nice menu, it isn't very big but they do have a nice selection of entrees, drinks and sides. The price is pretty reasonable hovering at about $9 a meal. Service - big ole tip of the hat here. The service here was really good (in a strange way) The gentleman that helped me was extremely friendly and he genuinely seemed he like working there or that he actually cared about how my day was. We exchanged idle banter for awhile and he just had this really awesome pleasant vibe going. So plus 10 points for the guy that took my order. The other employees up front were really strange. They had this zombie like stare going on and just stared off into space. They all seemed either really bored, nervous or they were brand new employees not really sure of what to do. There was also another female employee, who I am sure was a manager by her attire. She looked really pissed off or something but I don't know. But anyways, they all seemed really nice but without any personality. Except for the guy that helped me. Food - I got the curry vindaloo bowl with lamb and a side of garlic naan. The naan came out and it was actually a while naan cut into fourths. Some place give you some small pieces, but this was actually a nice big order of naan. It had a nice taste and texture. Nice and almost fluffyish. I couldn't taste any garlic thou but it did have a bunch of cilantro which overpowered the garlic. The curry bowl comes with a side of basmati rice to mix with. The rice was really nice, had a nice taste and was cooked well. Wasnt mushy or have any uncooked kernels. I bit into a piece of lamb first and it was very nice. It had a great flavor, still juicy and moist and wasnt overcooked. Props for not overcooking lamb. The curry bowl also came with bell peppers and taters in the sauce. The veggies were good, not mushy or crunchy. The sauce was also very pleasant. Had that great tomato and spices blend going. It packed a great taste and was really good, especially for a chain. The curry wasnt very complex but it still boasted some nice robust flavors. For what it was it was actually pretty good. Not the best Vindaloo I have every had but pretty good. But then again I have Indian friends and their moms make some dank a$$ curry. So all these items mixed together created a very nice meal that I totally enjoyed. Overall - it was an enjoyable and tasty trip. The man that helped me was really cool and my food had a great flavor.
