I had tried the one in the heights and it's better food than here but the service here is exceptional. Staffs are super nice and eager to help. Haven't seen a fastfood place with a service like that. Food wise wasn't too good. Too salty to my taste. Price range is OK running below $12-$15 per dish.

On a rainy evening we stopped by at Tarka. Just the perfect weather for some hot fried stuff, so I got the tikka masala fries, which was basically fries with red pepper and tikka masala for the dip, but....the guy at the counter said something about the dip not being vegan and gave us ketchup! So, it was technically spiced up fries. They were real yummy though. Then got the mattar panner, which comes with zeera rice. This is a perfect deal for the money, quantity wise and taste wise. Am not sure if anything is made from scratch here at the restaurant, it has a very fast-food kinda vibe. We had to pay additional $1.50 for raw onions which we wanted and jalapeños which, we did not want.. Got the garlic naan too, which had no sign of garlic and neither tasted like naan ... Lastly we got the paneer fried rice with additional vegetables for $2, I loved all the veges in it, the rice itself was just alright. Service was fast and someone dropped by to ask how the food was - dicey situation- I always politely nod and say good, but if I really like, I talk lot more ... wonder how many others do the same- I mean the polite nodding part ?

I just noticed Tarka Indian Kitchen over by the busiest street corner in Upper Kirby. This one-way street on Shepherd Drive connects to Farnham Street at an angle makes me want to turn into the parking lot. I was shopping at Montrose area and had a urge for some Indian food. Then, I remembered this location. Here I am. On a lazy Monday afternoon, the restaurant was fairly busy. There were few takeout and pickup orders as I observed by sitting next to the counter. One crazy thing I observed was loud dance music shooting from the kitchen to the ordering counter. When I sat by the counter, I could hear both Indian music from the dining room and the hip-hop music from the kitchen. One other reason I chose to come to Tarka was because of rewards program. I think I made a mistake by doing so. The food was ok but the service was below my expectation. I ordered Samosa Chaat as appetizer and Goat Mirchi Mirch Curry as a spicy entree. The description said "spicy only" was because the dish is based on chili. I tasted the spiciness was just alright. The spicy level seems better than Tikka Masala from my last visit at a different location. My Chaat tasted sweet. I felt like it should be a dessert. I found a shiny substance in my rice. When I took it to the person at the counter, he nonchalantly said "that's onion." That person was the only employee what wore Tarka Indian Kitchen uniform. Everyone else were wearing whatever. It was awkward to see random people wiping the tables. They didn't greet customers. I don't know why I even come here. I felt very unwelcomed. I don't think I'll be back at this Tarka location.

Food - despite this being kind of like a fast food Indian chain, it's delicious and I thoroughly enjoyed the daal and the coconut curry chicken! The curry is very creamy and well flavored, ate both curry all by myself! Service - fast and friendly Ambiance - nice clean modern casual, well lit!

Parking is adequate the environment is chill music playing at a reasonable volume. Now if youre expecting authentic indian food lets just say its american indian food. The staff is cool and the food I would rate 6/10 the flavors were ok but wasnt that whole indian type of vibe.

Caught up with a friend at Tarka Indian Kitchen in the montrose/upper Kirby area. This is a chain that includes kabobs, biryanis, curries, and vegetarian dishes. I got the chicken biryani (medium spice) with cheese pakora. My friend got the tikka masala (medium) with tikka masala fries. The biryani had a side of yogurt to mix in, it was decently spicy. The chicken was a little dry though. The cheese pakora is like a deep fried mozzarella stick with a sauce and I thought it was pretty good. I tried my friends tikka masala fries and they were pretty good with the tikka sauce. The sauces have a tiny bit of spice. They have an app where they have occasional deals, we both got our appetizers for free because of it. Overall a decent place with decent prices.

I've been to better Tarka locations. This one the vibes were a bit off and the food just wasn't as good. I ordered my usual, Malai Kofta, and it just didn't taste as good as other Tarka locations. The veggie dumplings are good and crispy and the curry has a nice hit there was just something that was a bit underwhelming flavor wise. The naan was also kind of bland. The garlic flavor was t very strong. Overall it was very mediocre Indian food, but I would go to a different Tarka location.

Came in for a quick and comforting dinner. We ordered plenty to share and didn't even finish half of it. We came in 40 minutes to closing and the food came out fairly quickly. The service is easy, you order and pay at the register and sit down with your number and they bring the food out. The atmosphere is casual and vibrant. It's a great place to have a casual meal and catch up with friends or family. Also great for introverts having solo dinners.

Tarka Indian Kitchen continue to make great Chicken Tikka Masala because welp... that's all I order. Growing up I spent a considerable amount of time with a few friends who were Indian & their mothers who would cook authentic Indian dishes with one of them being.. well... you guessed it... Chicken Tikka Masala that I honestly fell in love with. Tarka Indian Kitchens Chicken Tikka Masala is made just as authentic & oh I cannot forget the Naan bread that is fresh! I substitute the chicken for lamb though which (taste like chicken) because I love lamb. So I guess that would make it Lamb Tikka Masala? Anywho, you get the point.

    Price

I love some good Indian food and Tarka Indian Kitchen definitely met my expectations. Setup like a fast food restaurant, you order at the counter and take a seat. Big Kuddos as they offer a Military discount. I ordered the Chicken Korma, medium heat( they have a full range of heat from mild to call out the fire truck). This comes with rice, the Naan is a standalone item and I ordered the butter naan. Meal was fantastic, customer service was great. Portion size was good at the $12 price point. Soda was $2.95 and the Naan was $2.65. I ordered Gulab Jaman for $3.50(2 pieces in syrup) this could have been increased to three pieces for a better price point. But it was very good! Nothing fancy about the decor of the restaurant but plenty of seating. The restroom was clean. The only reason I removed a star is they don't accept good old American CASH! It's a completely electronic payment restaurant.

A classic spot to satisfy your Indian food craving. We first tried Tarka in Austin several years ago, and the taste at this location in Houston is just as I remember it. My favorite entree here is the lamb korma - it is so rich and flavorful, and the lamb itself is great quality. We also like the chicken tikka masala and garlic naan. I recently tried the samosa chaat, which was tasty but not the best version of the dish I've had. I also tried the coconut curry, and that was the first item I've had here that was just ok - I'd say it was nothing special, and I didn't taste any coconut, so I probably wouldn't order that one again. When dining in, Tarka reminds me of Panera where you order at the counter and sit down. It is also a great spot to get takeout from, which we have done several times now. We will definitely be back for more lamb korma!

Chicken Tikka Masala (hot) not too spicy couldnof went for extra hot.

You order online hosted by hot plate and pick up at your scheduled time/date at their house. I ordered it but someone else picked up around 2 hours later. You get an automated text when it's ready and you text when you're there. For special requests, you can call/text the number as well; he was pretty helpful and responsive and mentioned to my brother in law that he personally made sure everything had no alliums at pick up. As a note: my family consists of allium-free vegetarians (with one vegan) so we asked ahead of time what our options were before we went for it. He (I really should have gotten his name) gave us a list of rolls that could be made allium free and we chose from them so you could say they do have an allium free menu upon request. We pretty much got almost everything on his list. For 5 adults, we ordered a total of 10 rolls: LOW-KEY LOKI (2) CLASSIC SPICY TUNAH (2) NIKCO ROCK N ROLL SPICY MAMI, HOT TAMALE SPICY DRAGON FIRECRACKER (2) When we opened the boxes, it turns out that he included an extra roll of SPICY MAMI, HOT TAMALE as well as a small container of seaweed salad which I thought was really nice of him! Or maybe we spent too much or there's some buy 10 rolls get 1 free promotion I was unaware of, haha. It was an unexpected surprise. I also have 2 kids but one has multiple food allergies and the other one is picky. She wanted a sweet potato roll, but it's not on the menu so we rolled up some seaweed rice rolls for them ahead of time so they weren't left out. I didn't bring up my kids because we wanted to ease in with the allium free request and go from there. Plus, one of the food allergens is avocado and that was found in almost every roll. On that note, there's an option to make it gluten-free on each item's page, which is pretty awesome. There's also an option to use soy paper instead of seaweed and to add extra ingredients at additional cost. My family shared everything so my plate was a mix and I honestly lost track of what I was eating at the time for personal notes. But honestly? Everything was delicious. Sushi was the last thing I gave up before becoming vegetarian and I'm picky with the sushi I eat now. These are very good and I must say if I lived in Houston, I'd order again. I do wish there was a place to sit or picnic nearby, but this worked as well. (We all congregated at a house.) There was one roll that definitely had a kick to it. Oddly enough, SPICY MAMI was not it. My nose tends to run with spicy food and I didn't get to that point but it was close after that one spicy piece. Overall, a great experience. Our rolls were $8 to $17 each, 8 pieces per roll. It was around $27.20 per person before tips and tax/fees from hot plate ($7.35). They were nicely packed complete with edible orchid flowers, and personal cups of ginger and wasabi as well as chopsticks and soy sauce packets. We finished everything. This certainly wasn't cheap but when is sushi affordable enough to be a daily thing? I do wish there weren't service fees added on top, but I guess the platform needs support too. Delicious and something to try whether or not you're vegan. I hope to order again our next time in town. Many thanks to the chef for the excellent experience and his help!

He also made sure he gave me the biggest piece of cake Shoutout to him for that!!!! Now what y'all are really waiting for.... The food review. We ordered: Shroom Tacos (3) - 8.5/10 because they skimpy. It came with chopped white onions and limes on the side. The problem was there was an upcharge for oyster mushrooms but wasn't filled up with the mushrooms. I shouldn't bite into a taco and end up with just tortilla. And the limes were dry. However, the flavor of the tacos were A1. Chicken Chikn Alfredo sub Oyster Mushrooms- 7.5/10 because NO EXPLOSION OF FLAVOR. It was INSIPID. However, the noodles were cooked well, sauce was saucin' and they didn't skimp on the mushrooms in this dish. BUT they could've gave more pasta as a whole, it really wasn't much in there. Philly Steak Sub sub Oyster Mushrooms with KORNY SAUCE- 7/10. It lacked flavor AND there was barely enough mushrooms for how big the sandwich bread was. There was plenty onions and peppers which were cooked well but that's not what we were looking forward to. In addition, we couldn't even tell whether there was KORNY sauce added to it or not. Cookies and Cream Milkshake- 7/10. It was pretty good. Nothing special. Had a good consistency and flavor. German Chocolate Cake- 5.5/10. The cake itself was cooked well and really good. The icing which was coconut and something else wasn't very appetizing or appealing nor was it sweet. It was cold but we prefer our cakes room temperature. Overall, we would go back for the shroom tacos and probably try something else. They did have a very extensive menu. So I would definitely recommend this restaurant to others to try for themselves.

It's an older building with plenty of character. The person who took our order was very friendly and offered great recommendations. First look at the menu, was like I will have one of these one of those and one of those as well. The list could go on, even though this was my first time trying this restaurant. I will say that vibe here is some what informal however the team is super friendly and nice! So my order was comprised of the following Collard greens : cooked and seasoned well Mac & Cheese : creamy and flavorful Barbecue Wings : battered fried and tossed Boudin rice balls : yummy Fried Catfish : texture and flavor was great Battered Shrimp: how can these not be real Yum Sauce: this can be married to anything Pineapple Lemonade: didn't quite hit the spot, so this was my least flavored item Nevertheless, I refuse to go into the detailed goodness of the each and every dish, because each of these I would eat again and this review would be ridiculously long and because after it's gone, all that I am left with are the unbelievable memories of taste. I have no negative comments on the food whatsoever. The facility is a little dated, however the quality and quantity of what arrives from that kitchen brings you back home. It was very filling but not too heavy. Ended it with a slice of the cheesecake. The staff was friendly and attentive -shout out to robert! Cant wait to come back next time I am in Houston. This place is a gem Didn't get pictures of everything so you have to see it for yourself

A great place for special events or date night. Featuring a beautiful menu crafted for plant-based living. However, anyone will enjoy the menu. We started off with the yucca fries and the SW hand pies. The fries were my absolute favorite. I did also enjoy the hand pies. They were very feeling. Our server was excellent. He was very attentive and handled the flow of the dining room exquisitely. I had the marsala, everything is well season. I really enjoyed the taste and texture of the oyster mushrooms. The potatoes were cooked perfectly along with the broccolini. My friend enjoyed the nachos. I have had them before and I never disappointed amount of spice, lots of flavor, It's definitely enough for two to share and once you start, you cannot stop. This is definitely a top pick for a nice dinner out.

Crumbville is such a unique bakery and record shop with a beautiful atmosphere and positive vibe…read more It has an old school Third Ward feel, but also reflects a contemporary mindset. I read somewhere that the bakery is set to close soon and wanted to share a few thoughts regarding how important this bakery is, not only to my original childhood neighborhood, but the city itself. What I love: how the building looks on the outside and inside; the owner is very kind, friendly and eager to converse with visitors; and the idea that you can purchase an album by The Jungle Brothers, David Axelrod, Andre 3000, De La Soul or D'Angelo along with sweet treats from the bakery is just so cool. As a cratedigger who loves buying records, this is just so impressive to me. The great artwork hanging on the walls is another plus. A family member bought a delicious strawberry cake for my birthday a few years back, and that was my first introduction to Crumbville. The owner's decision to offer vegan and gluten free desserts was a smart decision, but she also offers regular baked goods. During my first visit recently, I purchased a strawberry cupcake, which had a lime-flavored cookie base. It was sublime and reminded me so much of the birthday cake from years ago. Service was great here. Overall, I just love this place. It makes me smile, and I will be very sad to see it go.

I put an order in with the owner 3 days prior for a VEGAN LEMON CAKE. She said yes (failed to say it was a lemon ginger snap cake) and it was doable. I explained that my friends are now vegan and that I had been scouring the city. She was so friendly and charming and I really wanted to love her and the output of her services/goods. But I don't. In fact, I'm severely disappointed. I told her I had a lunch at noon and needed the cake by 11:15 bc I have a lunch at noon on the other side of town(their website says they open at 11). She asked me to come closer to 11:30 which I came at exactly 11:30 and the cake wasn't even there! Her son was there and he was sooo incredibly nice! Gave me some vegan samples and I ended up getting the vegan chocolate chip cookies and the vegan Netflix & chill. It was alright but the chocolate chip was where it's at. They each were $5.50.
