Kinda different this day and age. Crowd age 35-70 I think. Just came in to check it out. Sat at bar had Whistle Pig 15 y.o. Very nice on the rocks. Had bacon wrapped shrimp appetizer pretty good. Something you wouldn't know about unless you're an old Orange County native. The crowd here is more older so it has a very mature feel and layback environment. Come enjoy the great drink and a good meal. It's very small inside so finding a table is hard but you can eat at the bar. The service is very quick so you don't have to wait for your dinner or drinks. There is even live music here on Saturday night. read more

I'm so disappointed in the Tarton room I've been a loyal customer for over 25 years prob spent prob 100k there, I went last Friday night it was my birthday and it was hot, took a uber from east Yorba Linda and was wearing a tank top and was refused service by some manager wearing Ing a dingy t-shirt and an old hat, go figure the ceiling still has smoke stains from all years of smoking and they didn't even have the courtesy to offer me a t-shirt, I would even paid for it, and they don't even have the good garlic bread anymore they give you cheap rolls now it's gone way downhill since the old owner it's just like the fling but with food I will never go back, I will go to Reunion or somewhere else what a fkn joke. read more

A bar, live music, and prime rib. I wanted prime rib, so it was a choice of my wife and daughter. I didn't realize that it was a bar, until we arrived. There was a line to be seated, but the wait was only 5 minutes. The hostess was very nice and pleasant. The waiter and all the staff were equally friendly. I was actually surprised by the welcoming attitude from everyone working on the restaurant side. I ordered the surf and turf king cut prime rib, lobster and a twice baked potato. Well no lobster. I thought scallops would be a good option instead of lobster. But, I got shrimp instead all 3 of them. The prime rib was just okay. I was surprised because the previous ratings on the food should have tasted better. The Baked potato was ok, based on previous comments, I just l had a higher expectation than what was delivered. We came here to celebrate our 34th wedding anniversary. We were seated immediately. Our server Laura was darling. We split the shrimp cocktail. It was delightful. I had the dinner salad and my husband had the albondigas soup. I ordered the halibut and it was perfection and paired nicely with my white zin. My husband had the double medallions of beef and the red zin. He enjoyed them very much. They brought us a lovely cheesecake with raspberry sauce and a candle. I was totally craving cheesecake. And their coffee was REALLY good. There was live music and it was so pleasant. The guy played 2 songs for us. It was great. This was about as good an experience as we could have had. So I've been wanting to go here since 12/2020 when we moved to Orange. My husband is from Orange and said he didn't like this place. So today I told him that I want to go and judge myself. Well...my husband enjoyed his filet mignon and I enjoyed my chicken piccata. Didn't take a pic of it cuz we we're enjoying the Elvis impersonator. Service was awesome and the ambiance was great. Well let me start off by saying, I had never been to the Tartan Room! From the time I walked in I was treated like family! First of all we had a large party of 25, we were seated in a private dining room(Excellent), The Owner- Manager greeted us as we were all seated, our servers Linda Lou and one other sweetheart took such good care of us! Everyone was so attentive, our drinks stayed filled, the guys kept our water glasses full. To be honest, I didn't know how we would be received, a large party of people of color in the OC! But when I tell you we were treated like OC Royalty, I kid you not! I had a wonderful birthday celebration and it was all due to such a great management and staff! The singer for Friday night was totally awesome! He sung happy Birthday to me, he even came back and wished me a personal happy birthday, and gave me a shot glass souvenir. I also requested he sing Tennessee Whiskey and OMG! It sound so good! Our food was delicious, and drinks my my my! The bartender did that! Eveyones drink was great! The Tartan Room is not just a steakhouse, it's an experience! It has an old school, retro, speakeasy atmosphere with live music every Friday and Saturday. The food is great with a variety of options. What is so great is each entree comes with two sides and you get your choice of soup or salad! What other restaurant still includes all this with an entree? The prime rib and twice baked potato is exceptional, or you can't go wrong with lobster tails. If you are in the mood for pasta, the Diablo Penne with shrimp is amazing! From the food, to the service and atmosphere, the Tartan Room is amazing. The staff is exemplary, providing attentive and friendly service. The servers and bartender treats guests like family. We had an enjoyable time at Tartan Room last night, there aren't many places nowadays that have that rustic/retro look that brings back some class. Our server Terri is always on top of her game and is very easy going when having small talk. We ordered the calamari strips(hot and crispy) which came with amazing tartar sauce! Trying their Prime Rib Texas style or a classic filet mignon(Sintra style) is a MUST!!!! At the end of the day, we were very happy with our experience and the price point that came with it. We went last night to bring a new group after raving about the food to them especially the garlic bread to find out they no longer are going to serve the garlic bread but instead brought out hard rolls such a disappointment. My sis and I came here based on Yelp's reviews and we wanted to stay close to her home. I had my mind set on eating a good steak and all the fixings but didn't want to go to a chain restaurant. So we chose this place. First we had a hard time finding it - spotted it at the end of the shopping center. I walked in and stopped because there was someone performing and I thought we were walking onto the stage! Walked to look for another entrance & realized nope this is it!! Live music which was awesome. We were seated immediately and in a few minutes, the waiter brought us some water while we looked over the menu. Lots of choices ++ which I thought was great! In 5 minutes the waiter came introduced himself and I immediately told him we came based on Yelpers reviews of the place. He offered some pleasantries we ordered a glass of wine and he said I'll bring you some bread. We talked a bit and looked over the menu then waited...& waited.... & waited. We flagged him down saying we were ready to order but we're wondering what happened to our wine??? He took our appetizer order (the prime rib boat) then disappeared. Waited another 10minutes then I flagged another server down to see if he can bring our drinks. By now we were thinking hmmm he can't be that busy?!?! Another group sat across from us and our waiter came gave them the menus and took their drink orders & I tried to flag him down but he rushed off. We have been sitting already 1/2 hr and still no drinks. He then came by apologized but his tray also had the other tables' drink order. We reminded him about the bread and also that we hadn't gotten our appetizer yet. Off he went then another server brought our order and asked if we needed anything else - we said yes could we get our bread basket so we can enjoy it with our appetizer. He finally came back to take our order. - we weren't impressed with the appetizer as it lacked real flavor. The bread looked & tasted like it was supposed to be cheese bread but you couldn't taste the cheese flavor. I still wanted my steak so I ordered the New York steak medium well, baked potato & green salad. My sister order but he mentioned the "extra extra baked potato" which he said was really good. They scooped the potato out mashed it then refill it back into the skin then bake it again. Sounded really delicious & he vouched for it so we both ordered it. I mean if he highly recommended it why not??? Our food came out - the extra extra baked potato looked like it was nuked and it tasted horrible. The side veggies were 5 pieces of zucchini and broccoli. Let's just say we won't be recommending it to the rest of the family. We always want to support local businesses but the food wasn't up to par & our server could use some training. But the love music was Awesome!!!! read more

Came here for Thanksgiving dinner... cuz they were the only place around that didn't have a line out the door. We did drive all over town at 3.00pm. We've been here many times for dinner and they have decent food, on the higher price side. They said booths on dining side were all booked up, so we sat at a tiny bar side table. They were busy and short staffed so took awhile., but that was just fine. We both had the turkey dinner and it was fine, except everything had gravy poured over it. And it was a brown gravy not turkey.. and the cranberry was the kind right out of the can. Jelly type. So the dinner was just like you cook at home, was good, nothing fantastic. Then the bill came..... I was thinking $25 to $30 a person and that would have been fine. But when I saw $60 each I almost chocked. Guess we should have asked first before sitting down. read more

This place is truly a hidden gem, in business for 65 years! I had been to the bar side many, many years ago but had not tried the restaurant side. What a pleasant surprise! This place is a solid 3.5 out of 5 stars. I've driven past this place on multiple occasions and finally got the chance to stop in. It's kinda hidden behind the cat clinic on Tustin and if you're not looking for it you can easily overlook it. This place was really crowded on a Friday night and there was a live band playing as well. If you read the prior reviews you'll see that this place is like a more classy mini Cafe. What I mean by that is that there are alot of older folks eating here. I feel like I was the youngest one there. And not to mention, I was the only non white patron that I could see. Lol We got an old fashion and a dirty martini. And let me say, the drinks are strong. They pour with a stiff hand. So if you looking for a place to get your drink on that won't break the bank, this is the place. We ended up getting a steak and Lamb entree. Both dishes came with either soup of salad and your choice of rice or potatoes. We both got the salad and the baked potato. We also got a small amount of veggies to go along with the meat dish. The steak was kinda over cooked, and I asked for medium rare. And the Lamb wasn't that flavorful. We had to add some salt to taste. The Lamb does come with this mint sauce which I found intersting. They will bring you garlic bread before you get your entree which was nice. The people working there are friendly and alot of the patrons looks like regulars. How the hell have I grown up in Southern California and never heard of this place. I used to work just down the street and never knew it was here. Oh well, we went upon the recommendation of a friend. Great tip by the way. We sat at the bar and Nick took care of us. I had grilled shrimp and my wife had bacon wrapped shrimp. Both were terrific. The salads were good, fresh with homemade bleu cheese dressing. The sides, rice pilaf, veggies and twice baked potato were just okay. The drinks were strong and inexpensive. We did feel bad for Nick, because he was working his ass-off with little to no help. A guy in a ball cap was walking around telling people what to do, but not pitching in himself (I assume he was either the manager or owner, because he kept disappearing into an employee only area). Now be aware, the restaurant is dark, the music can be loud, although I found it just the perfect volume for good background music. The prices for the food are in the $24-$37 neighborhood with some dishes a little more and some a little less. It's definitely an old-school restaurant, but my type of place. We will be back and I would recommend it to anyone looking for supper in the Orange area. read more

I first want to preface this review by saying I am extremely forgiving and understanding of the food service and customer service jobs. I work in customer service and I understand that things happen and customers can be a pain etc. I started with the chefs special which was a 16oz. Bone in ribeye. I asked for mine to be medium rare with the side of "rice pilaf". The dish also comes with steamed veggies. The first red flag for me was when I tasted the rice pilaf and the steamed veggies. They are 100% frozen and warmed up (or at least pre-packaged). These taste like the frozen rice packs and frozen "steamed veggies" you find at the grocery store and use to save time after a long day at work. It is not made from scratch and I say that with 100% conviction. The big thing that brought me to write this yelp review wasn't the frozen sides, it was my steak. First, my ribeye came out cooked medium well (I ordered medium rare) and I sent it back and asked for a Fillet Mignon instead (the ribeye was tenderized beforehand and I thought a thicker cut would be easier to get right). They agreed to do that for me but proceeded to serve me a rare fillet. My better half got a fillet that was cooked to perfection and I showed them the difference between cold red and a nice pink. The server agreed that it was wrong and said they would put it back on for a minute to get it up to temp. This felt petty and was demeaning as it felt like they were mocking me for sending it back. Then they brought my fillet cooked to a medium/medium well. At this point I am beyond frustrated as a "steakhouse" has failed to get a single steak right after 3 tries. I ate the 2 bites that were somewhat tender of my steak and didn't eat the rest. In addition to the horrific experience I received with my steak, the service wasn't great either. The servers were unprofessional and kept asking who ordered what meal and kept forgetting which drinks were ordered. I also sat most of my meal with empty drinks and had to ask twice for water refills and for soda. Despite the bad service, our server took it upon themselves to include a 20% tip. They did not deserve the tip they took, but it's whatever. This isn't a knock but they have very loud live music so if your goal is to have good conversation keep that in mind before going here. Overall this is a solid 1 star experience, I would honestly look elsewhere unless your plan is to get frozen food at the price of fine dining and incorrectly cooked steak at a self proclaimed "steak house." read more

Came in for dinner last night as it popped up on my yelp for the area I was working in and had very good reviews. Upon walking in, I noticed it's an old school spot with some good vibes. I started off with the calamari which comes with 3 sauces. I don't have calamari strips often but thought they were good! The marinara and cocktail sauce they serve with it are perfect too. For my main, I ordered the prime rib (medium rare) and opted for the twice baked potato and a side salad. The bleu cheese that came with the salad was superb! When the prime rib arrived, it initially didn't look medium rare but I understand they poor au jus over it so that will take the color away a little bit. Unfortunately my piece was quite tough. Also, my twice baked potato was on the dry side. My brother said the same thing about his prime rib and potato too. Their food is priced fairly cheap so maybe the prime rib isn't prime... Or perhaps we just got it on an off night. read more
