Just go already. Stop overthinking and have a great time! If the owner reads this - install a photo booth! It would add a nice charm to the restaurant. Thank you Kenny for being the best server here!!! Food was delicious as always, and the martinis fresh in taste!

Pleasantly surprised!! Super happy that I picked a local spot for dinner and we will absolutely be back. Love the old school vibe from growing up when times were more simple. The food was great wonderful, service was provided like a team and the ambiance with live music was so nice- can't wait to return again soon!

My lady friend always raves about the Tartan Room. I looked and saw they had a Thanksgiving dinner for $65. She was happy and I made reservations. They had two seatings 1:00 to 3:00 or 3:30 to 5:30. We took the early seating. You had a choice of ham, turkey, salmon, prime rib, or ham and turkey. My lady chose ham and turkey; I went with prime rib. We got green beans, mashed potatoes with gravy, stuffing, salad, and a dinner roll. I really love prime rib, and this didn't disappoint, it was amazing. I can't believe my lady friend has never had prime rib, she enjoyed the taste I gave her. Some people don't like rare meat, but prime rib should be rare to medium rare. The mashed potatoes were fresh and not from a box. You could see the small chunks of potato. The gravy was delicious. I loved the homemade stuffing. I always enjoy a nice dinner salad. I think my lady friend enjoyed her food too. She had a smile the whole time. Service was amazing. Everyone was so nice. Everyone wished all the customers a happy Thanksgiving. This was a two-hour seating, and we stayed almost the whole time. Nobody was rushed. It seemed like everyone had a good time. I can't wait to bring my lady friend back for a regular meal service. We also want to check out the entertainment schedule.

Kept hearing about this mom and pop place and finally went. We were pleasantly surprised! It's tucked away in a strip mall. With tartan plaid table cloths and an old school diner vibe, the food was great! We got their signature prime rib and lobster. While they used unsalted butter for the lobster, and the Aus jus was unflavored, nothing a little salt can't fix. The prime rib was cooked perfectly to medium rare. We shared this massive plate and they split it for us which was so fantastic! The salad was great with their homemade ranch. The service is so great, she was attentive and quick the entire night! I'd come back here again for a great home cooked meal with a comfort vibe. Did I mention we were also serenaded by an Elvis impersonator?

It has a dive bar/fine dining feel. Come for a drink, dinner or even entertainment. The servers and bartenders are amazing. Food was absolutely delicious.

The Tartan Room is kind of a hole in the wall restaurant/bar in north Orange. It has been around for a long time and feels a little dated, but it does have a certain charm. I have always sat in a booth in the main dining area, and I was surprised when a large group of family members were coming here to celebrate a birthday. I forgot that they have a separate room near the entrance that is all tables. They rearranged the room into one long table and we had our own private area which was great. The table started off with a few orders of the fried zucchini. It was breaded well and not greasy or oily. I almost always order the prime rib Texas style because this is the only place I've ever been that offers this preparation. It has a little dry rub on it, and is thrown on the grill for a bit. It doesn't make a huge difference, but it is a little twist on standard prime rib. The au jus was good and the horseradish is on the milder side. The veggies seemed fresh and not frozen. It also comes with a good sized house salad. Everybody else also enjoyed their food. I had a glass of the Bonanza by Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon which I would definitely NOT recommend. This must be the cab version of their Meiomi, a big fruit bomb that was barely drinkable. Service was excellent, especially for a large group. Our main server Terry was great, and several other staff members were constantly filling up waters, bringing food, and clearing plates. The food and service have always been good for me, and prices are very reasonable. This is a good casual place to grab a nice steak. Rating 4.5 stars rounded up to 5 for the excellent service our large group received on this visit.

Went for lunch. Great specials. Hard to choose. Got the cable car- prime rib sandwich and the chopped beef plate. Came with soup. Food was great. Prices were fantastic. Service was great. Inside vibe with the high backed red leather booths. Total 60's. Loved this place!

I had my eye on this place for a long time because it's one of a few establishments that serve prime rib. The date of my visit was Saturday night 2/21/26 around 6:30pm. When my friend and I pulled up to the place he asked me if it was a dive bar. Because there were no windows and from the outside didn't look like a restaurant but a bar. As we walked in we were pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere. It reminded me of a 80s Las Vegas Lounge There was an older gentleman providing entertainment by singing motown and oldies. He was actually pretty good we thought the live music brought out the place. There were customers on the floor dancing to the music. They seem to be regulars since they acted familiar with each other and the staff. I found the hostess station across the main dining room and was told it would be 45 min to an hour wait for a table for 2. The bartender came around and ask customers waiting for a table if they wanted drinks so we got a couple. It wasn't too long before the older blond hostess let us know a table was ready. During this time both her and the bartender were professional and polite. Once seated we approached by our waitress and were ready to order. My friend got the queen cut 12oz prime rib texas style. salad, bake potato. I got the King cut 16oz prime rib with lobster tail mp which was $80, tomato florentine soup, twice baked potato and veggies. We both requested med rare for our meat. Our sides came out promptly the soup, salad and complimentary bread. Then the main course. The meat was cooked to my liking, twice baked potato was good and veggies excellent. Overall the food, service, and atmosphere were good. Didn't get dessert this time but maybe next time. Would recommend.

How much is the 2-3lbs lobster dinner on Thursdays? Wife and I are looking forward to coming in!

Is this place under new mgmt?

No. Same owners for the past 25 years.

    Do they take reservations?

No. They do not. It's never a long wait, though. And it's worth waiting if you need to.

Any truly gluten free options? No soy sauce or flour used in the sauces and serving utensils are different and not shared so there isn't any transfer?

You should really cook at home - different utensils?

What time does happy hour and food start on Friday's?

HH drink prices at 3, limited HH food at 4 and the full kitchen open at 5.

What time does the live music start and is there a listing as to who will be performing?

Entertainment generally starts at 7pm on Fri and Sat. Maybe earlier if they have some ok ne for Tue or Wed. Live music is typically listed on the thetartanroom.com website under "live music".

What is the evening dress code?

definitely casual. No real dress code to speak of.

Do they serve prime rib all day or only at certain times?

    All day

I noticed its states not kid friendly is this correct?

There is no kids menu and few people bring children. They are allowed in the restaurant and banquet area but not the bar. Well behaved children would do ok here.

    Is it expensive?

Medium price. Dinners are $20 to $30.

We arrived on time but had to wait in the very busy and crowded bakery for 20 minutes while we watched 3 other couples be escorted up one at a time... When we finally got taken up, we then had to drink water for 20 minutes while we waited for the other couples to go one at a time to the bar for their "tasting". The atmosphere was small, bright, on the loud side for a speak easy, uncomfortable seating, open air and not impressive. The bartender prepared 4 drinks for each party to taste out of a straw from the same glass. Those were the drinks they were able to choose from for their order. It also seemed that there were two couples at the bar at the same time that didn't even know one another. We were told we had to "wait our turn". I took an out of town friend and kept apologizing to her about how bad the experience was. If they even want to attempt something like this they need to space out the reservations more, allow people to order drinks while they are waiting and offer more than 4 drinks. The food menu was less than impressive also...about 6 items deep and we saw some food come out that did not look appetizing. The charcuterie was laughable. By the time it was our turn, we were over it. I went to the bartender and asked for a refund of our $50 deposit and he said " yeah that is not how this works. You can go talk to the manager if you want but the deposit is non refundable". He was so rude that we walked out. On the way out the manager told me he would credit my card and "take care of it" and I have yet to see a credit. Don't waste your time, there are so many speak easy places in the OC that blow this one away.

We visited a few times in recent weeks to try out some of the new drinks. El Quetzal (Illegal Caribbean cask mezcal, yellow Chartreuse, Campari, lime, pineapple, cane, cardamom). This is a variation of a Junglebird, and has a nice smokiness with light bitterness. It's an easy drinker, and is served in a tiki mug with a lit sugar cube. 3 Rabbits & a Dash (Blind Rabbit Garrison Brothers single barrel bourbon, Kuleana Nanea rum, falernum, allspice, honey, orange, lime). It drinks a little boozy from the bourbon, and is complemented by nice spice notes. Let the Man'Go (Patron 100 tequila, bitter Bianca, mango, rice, lemon). I love drinks with a foam top, and even though it didn't say it on the menu, it was obvious after one sip that the foam was infused with toasted rice. Good balanced cocktail with light mango flavor and rice notes. Velvet Samba (guava, cachaca, Patron 100 tequila, lime, condensed milk). Unique milky looking cocktail. It's guava and lime forward, balanced, and has a little creamy mouthfeel from the condensed milk. Clarified Ango-Lada (Blind Rabbit single barrel Sagamore rye, Angostura bitters, coconut, pineapple, lime). It's served with a nutmeg sprinkle on top. The rye is toned way down from clarification, and it's a smooth drinker. The Cocktail of Week I believe was a type of zombie. I forgot to write down the ingredients but I believe some of them were rum, vodka, raspberry, and lemon. It is served in their zombie mug with a lit cinnamon stick and was good. Dreamwave (Empress gin, barrel aged Curacao, sherry lychee, lemon). I think this was my favorite. It has a nice tart flavor, not boozy at all and balanced. I was sitting at the bar where my drink was being made, and when the Li Hing Hui powder was sprinkled on top, it had a really nice sweet, almost vanilla-ish aroma. I asked bartender Adrian to make me a Captain's Reserve (bartenders own creation) using rum as the main spirit. He made an amazing cocktail with rum, scotch, passion fruit, and some other ingredients I forgot to jot down. It was lush and perfectly balanced with multiple layers of flavor. I hope he remembers that recipe, it was one of the best drinks I've ever had. Adrian, Ruben, and Sergio all provided great service and conversation, and they make some excellent drinks. Hosts Anna and Emma always give a warm welcome and were very friendly. There's only a few weeks left of SepTiki, so visit soon if you're interested in these drinks. When I first came in Spring with the amazing, Karen, the menu and everything was great Now, I took my friend who was in town from Nashville and it was a brand new theme. It's the great Gatsby. Even our waitress, Jasmine was dressed for the occasion. I would say this place is known for Absinthe. They have cocktails featuring it or you can get one of the huge apparatus (huge and glowing green) which, if you are into it? I highly recommend. Just one of the huge apparatus makes one regular drink. Or, what Karen and I did, was split it and make it into a shot for the both of us. The waitress comes out and shows you how it works and goes over everything. Karen, who I came with, was a pro and knew her way around it. She showed me the ropes lol. Honestly, if you are here? When in Rome. Go all out and try it, since it's where they shine here. They took off a few menu items and added some themed drinks. ( a couple new champagne themed drinks) They have big entree items but I suggest small bites and sharing and mostly coming for the drinks. There's no bathroom inside, so you do have to leave the bar and go to the closest one (over behind Randy's donuts) and then enter the speakeasy again Both times coming here I've never had an issue. It's a small, packed place. And yet they still have the cocktails flowing and the food coming out in a good time. So the food and drinks are good Atmosphere is lovely. Service is good. Especially for it usually being very busy in here This place is located inside the Anaheim packing district. So I suggest hitting up a couple other spots before or afterwards for some more food or drinks P.S. it is very dark In here. They never cared if we used our light to look at the menu. However, they do not want flash photography They also do not strictly enforce a dress code (my friend from Nashville asked) however, they suggest dressing business casual and not too underdressed

We were escorted inside and our hostess immediately started introducing us to the lore of the place: a capsized ship with the space decorated using pieces recovered from the wreckage. The room is VERY dimly lit, and we actually stood near the entrance for a moment while our eyes adjusted, but honestly that just added to the atmosphere. On the way to our reservation in the Captain's Quarters, our hostess gave us a little tour of the main room and even pointed out the bathrooms for later. Once we sat down, we met our bartender, Drew, who was fantastic. He walked us through the different menus, explained the food and cocktails, and really added to the experience throughout the night. I'm normally a whiskey drinker, so I started with the Southeast Spice Trade while my girlfriend ordered the Pineapple Whipped Colada. Both were delicious, but half the fun was watching Drew make them. You could really see the amount of care that went into the craft and presentation of every drink. For food, we ordered the chicken katsu and ahi poke nachos. I was especially excited when the nachos arrived and I realized they were made with wonton chips. I'm a sucker for wonton chips, so those were an immediate win. We obviously couldn't stop at one round of drinks, so next came the Tarobi Colada and Zombie King. Drew told us a little about the history of the Zombie King and gave us a lesson on rum, so I had to try it, plus it came in one of the coolest mugs I've ever seen. The Zombie King was easily my favorite drink of the night. The flavor was fantastic from beginning to end and dangerously smooth. I didn't even realize how much it had hit me until I stood up. Even leaving was part of the experience. We finally checked out the bathroom and the door has what feels like TEN different locks on it. It genuinely felt like I was locking myself inside the bathroom of an old pirate ship. Between the storytelling, incredible atmosphere, Captain's Quarters, food, cocktails, and especially the service from Drew, this was such a memorable night. Strong Water completely commits to its theme without sacrificing the quality of the drinks. Absolutely an experience worth having, and we can't wait to come back.

Recently added cocktails: Buzzin' Jungle Bird (Jamaican gold rum, coffee infused campari, dark rum, pineapple, lime, hemp orgeat, cane, Angostura bitters). This is a great spin on a jungle bird, with some complexity and coffee flavor. I'm usually not a big fan of coffee, but it is at a good level. Chi Chi (Whey vodka, pineapple, lime, date, honey, coconut, salt). This has a great creamy texture which I believe comes from the dairy component of the whey vodka. It is well balanced with some sweetness, and I could taste the coconut and date flavors. Lapu Lapu (Asian rum, Jamaican rum, dry curacao, lime, orgeat, demerara). It is juicy, well balanced, and served with a flaming sugar cube on top. This is the cocktail they chose to serve at their booth at Tiki Oasis recently which says a lot, try it! Thai Me Down (Barbados rum, coconut liqueur, papaya, lemon, demerara, Thai basil). It is served old-fashioned style, and was light and perfectly balanced. Those Thai inspired flavors were all noticeable. Demerara Dry Float. They added and took this one off the menu as of now. It was a balanced light citrusy drink which was served with a delicious sidecar of Hamilton 151 rum infused with banana chips. I sipped half of that and mixed the rest into the cocktail. It was served with a beautiful ice shell. I'm guessing it was too labor intensive, and took up a lot of space in their freezers. Recently added food: Ahi Poke Nachos (marinated ahi tuna, masago, avocado, cucumber, spicy mayo, furikake, green onion). This is such a tasty starter with so many textures and flavors. I love that the nachos are wontons too, and not just chips. Crab & Cream cheese wontons. Nice crisp wontons with a good amount of crab and cream cheese inside. The chili sauce and spicy mayo adds another layer of flavor, and there is a slice of jalapeno on top for a little heat. Pan-Seared Scallops. This was an excellent lighter entrée. The four scallops are cooked perfectly, and even have a little dollop of caviar on top. I liked the mix of veggies and really liked the bed of potato puree underneath. Steak & Eggs (8oz hanger steak, crying tiger glaze, Nam Jim Jaew sauce, sunny eggs, rice). I normally wouldn't try steak & eggs for dinner, but I can't resist a good hanger steak. It was cooked a perfect medium rare and I appreciate that it was pre-sliced. The crying tiger glaze and sauce were so flavorful. There's plenty of rice to soak up any left egg yolk or sauce. Recently added desserts: Dubai Chocolate Lava Cake. This was excellent, but it's definitely sweet and rich. Save some room if you plan on ordering this. Ube Flan Cake. I'm usually not a fan of flan, but I have to try anything with ube and this was good. The cake had nice ube flavor, and I liked that the flan was a little firm since the looser custardy/gelatinous texture is not for me. This is definitely a lighter dessert than the lava cake. It's not a new drink, but I also had the Naval Grog for the first time. (Lost Voyage rum, overproof white rum, allspice dram, lime, grapefruit, demerara, honey). It is boozy with nice spice notes. Other repeat cocktails enjoyed were Tales from the Black Lagoon (my favorite), Missionary's Downfall, Agave Parrot, Singapore Sling, and Serpents Grasp all of which are excellent. Their cocktails, food, ambiance, and service are always top notch. Thank you Ying, Erica, Greg, Jordan, Joey, Iris, Karen, Kyle, Joy, and John for your wonderful hospitality during our visits. We will return again soon!

I saw the Whisky Room and…read morethought that would be the perfect spot for my retirement dinner I wanted to have with a few of my partners. I was not disappointed! I worked with Casey in Private Events and he made the magic happen. Had a welcome cocktail, 4-course dinner, dessert, and a Whisky Flight tutorial. Jacob was our Whisky expert and server. He absolute rocked it! Even had a close up magician swinging by for a little entertainment. Highly highly highly recommend. It's not cheap, but very much worth dollar spent. Trust me, you won't be disappointed if you decide to do a group event there.

My coworkers and I have been to Bosscat previously for happy hour and enjoyed the drinks, sliders,…read moreand fries, so when we happened to be in the area on a Saturday morning, we figured why not stop by here for breakfast/brunch and mimosas. Unfortunately - all of us agreed the brunch items are NOT good. See pictures of eggs. The eggs in the omelette as well as the scramble were rubbery and spongy. Very similar to the motel eggs - there is no way they were made with real eggs in the shell, most likely pasteurized liquid or powdered egg mix was used. We were so disappointed with the eggs, we still talk about it to this day. The breakfast/brunch items with eggs were not worth $16. The menu even stated, omelette has 6 eggs and the scramble has 3 eggs so it seemed as if fresh eggs were being used. Needless to say, we didn't finish even half of the food. Would not return for brunch again. I did email the Orange location directly 4 weeks ago when this happened and never received a response.

Definitely make a reservation here! I believe there are only like 4 booths!…read moreWe were able to secure a booth because someone missed their reservation. You will have to go through the main tikibar (Stowaway) and walk to a side door in the back. The theme is along the lines of Pinocchio. After you enter the side door, you will be transported and see a story book. You will walk through a whale's mouth to get to your booth. There is so much to look at all around so take your time admiring the decor while you drink. The tiki drinks are different from Stowaway and are delicious! It's definitely more intimate so you can talk to the bartenders. Though since it's all booths, you won't really see them make the drinks. Overall, fun spot - intimate if you want the tiki vibes in a quieter location

The Belly of the Beast - Pinocchio Speakeasy at Stowaway Tiki Bar, Tustin…read more The Belly of the Beast is a Pinocchio-themed speakeasy tucked inside Stowaway Tiki Bar in Tustin, and it's definitely a fun experience. You actually enter through the mouth of a whale, which immediately sets the tone. The decor and theming are really well done, with plenty of unique details that make the space feel immersive. The atmosphere is more intimate and private compared to the main tiki bar, which makes it a nice change of pace. The food menu is limited, but what we tried was good. The drinks were definitely the highlight. I had the Farewell Jimmy, Smoke the Monster Out, and Geppetto's Last Words--all three were great. Smooth, tropical, flavorful, and definitely potent. Service was okay, but nothing particularly stood out. Overall, The Belly of the Beast is a cool place to check out if you enjoy themed bars and unique experiences. For me, it's probably more of a one-time experience rather than somewhere I'd regularly return to. Still, the creativity, decor, and cocktails make it worth experiencing at least once.
