Just go already. Stop overthinking and have a great time! If the owner reads this - install a photo booth! It would add a nice charm to the restaurant. Thank you Kenny for being the best server here!!! Food was delicious as always, and the martinis fresh in taste!

Pleasantly surprised!! Super happy that I picked a local spot for dinner and we will absolutely be back. Love the old school vibe from growing up when times were more simple. The food was great wonderful, service was provided like a team and the ambiance with live music was so nice- can't wait to return again soon!

My lady friend always raves about the Tartan Room. I looked and saw they had a Thanksgiving dinner for $65. She was happy and I made reservations. They had two seatings 1:00 to 3:00 or 3:30 to 5:30. We took the early seating. You had a choice of ham, turkey, salmon, prime rib, or ham and turkey. My lady chose ham and turkey; I went with prime rib. We got green beans, mashed potatoes with gravy, stuffing, salad, and a dinner roll. I really love prime rib, and this didn't disappoint, it was amazing. I can't believe my lady friend has never had prime rib, she enjoyed the taste I gave her. Some people don't like rare meat, but prime rib should be rare to medium rare. The mashed potatoes were fresh and not from a box. You could see the small chunks of potato. The gravy was delicious. I loved the homemade stuffing. I always enjoy a nice dinner salad. I think my lady friend enjoyed her food too. She had a smile the whole time. Service was amazing. Everyone was so nice. Everyone wished all the customers a happy Thanksgiving. This was a two-hour seating, and we stayed almost the whole time. Nobody was rushed. It seemed like everyone had a good time. I can't wait to bring my lady friend back for a regular meal service. We also want to check out the entertainment schedule.

Kept hearing about this mom and pop place and finally went. We were pleasantly surprised! It's tucked away in a strip mall. With tartan plaid table cloths and an old school diner vibe, the food was great! We got their signature prime rib and lobster. While they used unsalted butter for the lobster, and the Aus jus was unflavored, nothing a little salt can't fix. The prime rib was cooked perfectly to medium rare. We shared this massive plate and they split it for us which was so fantastic! The salad was great with their homemade ranch. The service is so great, she was attentive and quick the entire night! I'd come back here again for a great home cooked meal with a comfort vibe. Did I mention we were also serenaded by an Elvis impersonator?

It has a dive bar/fine dining feel. Come for a drink, dinner or even entertainment. The servers and bartenders are amazing. Food was absolutely delicious.

The Tartan Room is kind of a hole in the wall restaurant/bar in north Orange. It has been around for a long time and feels a little dated, but it does have a certain charm. I have always sat in a booth in the main dining area, and I was surprised when a large group of family members were coming here to celebrate a birthday. I forgot that they have a separate room near the entrance that is all tables. They rearranged the room into one long table and we had our own private area which was great. The table started off with a few orders of the fried zucchini. It was breaded well and not greasy or oily. I almost always order the prime rib Texas style because this is the only place I've ever been that offers this preparation. It has a little dry rub on it, and is thrown on the grill for a bit. It doesn't make a huge difference, but it is a little twist on standard prime rib. The au jus was good and the horseradish is on the milder side. The veggies seemed fresh and not frozen. It also comes with a good sized house salad. Everybody else also enjoyed their food. I had a glass of the Bonanza by Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon which I would definitely NOT recommend. This must be the cab version of their Meiomi, a big fruit bomb that was barely drinkable. Service was excellent, especially for a large group. Our main server Terry was great, and several other staff members were constantly filling up waters, bringing food, and clearing plates. The food and service have always been good for me, and prices are very reasonable. This is a good casual place to grab a nice steak. Rating 4.5 stars rounded up to 5 for the excellent service our large group received on this visit.

Went for lunch. Great specials. Hard to choose. Got the cable car- prime rib sandwich and the chopped beef plate. Came with soup. Food was great. Prices were fantastic. Service was great. Inside vibe with the high backed red leather booths. Total 60's. Loved this place!

I had my eye on this place for a long time because it's one of a few establishments that serve prime rib. The date of my visit was Saturday night 2/21/26 around 6:30pm. When my friend and I pulled up to the place he asked me if it was a dive bar. Because there were no windows and from the outside didn't look like a restaurant but a bar. As we walked in we were pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere. It reminded me of a 80s Las Vegas Lounge There was an older gentleman providing entertainment by singing motown and oldies. He was actually pretty good we thought the live music brought out the place. There were customers on the floor dancing to the music. They seem to be regulars since they acted familiar with each other and the staff. I found the hostess station across the main dining room and was told it would be 45 min to an hour wait for a table for 2. The bartender came around and ask customers waiting for a table if they wanted drinks so we got a couple. It wasn't too long before the older blond hostess let us know a table was ready. During this time both her and the bartender were professional and polite. Once seated we approached by our waitress and were ready to order. My friend got the queen cut 12oz prime rib texas style. salad, bake potato. I got the King cut 16oz prime rib with lobster tail mp which was $80, tomato florentine soup, twice baked potato and veggies. We both requested med rare for our meat. Our sides came out promptly the soup, salad and complimentary bread. Then the main course. The meat was cooked to my liking, twice baked potato was good and veggies excellent. Overall the food, service, and atmosphere were good. Didn't get dessert this time but maybe next time. Would recommend.

Ask the Community - Tartan Room

How much is the 2-3lbs lobster dinner on Thursdays? Wife and I are looking forward to coming in!

Is this place under new mgmt?

No. Same owners for the past 25 years.

    Do they take reservations?

No. They do not. It's never a long wait, though. And it's worth waiting if you need to.

Any truly gluten free options? No soy sauce or flour used in the sauces and serving utensils are different and not shared so there isn't any transfer?

You should really cook at home - different utensils?

What time does happy hour and food start on Friday's?

HH drink prices at 3, limited HH food at 4 and the full kitchen open at 5.

What time does the live music start and is there a listing as to who will be performing?

Entertainment generally starts at 7pm on Fri and Sat. Maybe earlier if they have some ok ne for Tue or Wed. Live music is typically listed on the thetartanroom.com website under "live music".

What is the evening dress code?

definitely casual. No real dress code to speak of.

Do they serve prime rib all day or only at certain times?

    All day

I noticed its states not kid friendly is this correct?

There is no kids menu and few people bring children. They are allowed in the restaurant and banquet area but not the bar. Well behaved children would do ok here.

    Is it expensive?

Medium price. Dinners are $20 to $30.

We went to celebrate a birthday for one of our friends. We were sat at a long table facing a wall and weren't able to hear or speak with one another. They were 15 minutes late calling us up to our adventure and hasty to get us out!! While the bar experience sounded like it would be fun, the "tasting" was run as a dictatorship - one of our group wanted a quick photo of the laid out drinks and was scorned to put it away until the detailed instructions of taking a clean straw and using it to take a sample of each drink then discard it was ridiculous on every level. If you are going to sample, pour everyone a small taste! How wasteful in every way - the straws, the remains of the drink, etc. (a new straw was used for each "sampling"). Once e we finished this process, they wanted everyone's drink order before you could go back to the table. Not everyone knew what they wanted - but that wasn't allowed. You were to order before sitting back down! Then comes the food. Meh at best. Nobody was impressed by the food, there were limited choices, and our poor guest with food allergies was not well accommodated. The service was rushed and demanding. Oh. All of this on top of a $25 per person fee for reservation that goes back toward the bill. Also watch out! Gratuity was already included but not mentioned. There are better options for an experience of this sort.

They offer bar seating and booth / table Follow the wall from Randy's donuts and Look for a wall of Japanese sake/beer barrels and head towards the restaurant - the rolling boil. There will be a check in host and stand there and wait (it will be located up against the wall with a big secret door right next to the hostess station) It's very New York inside. When I first came in Spring with the amazing, Karen, the menu and everything was great Now, I took my friend who was in town from Nashville and it was a brand new theme. It's the great Gatsby. Even our waitress, Jasmine was dressed for the occasion. I would say this place is known for Absinthe. They have cocktails featuring it or you can get one of the huge apparatus (huge and glowing green) which, if you are into it? I highly recommend. Just one of the huge apparatus makes one regular drink. Or, what Karen and I did, was split it and make it into a shot for the both of us. The waitress comes out and shows you how it works and goes over everything. Karen, who I came with, was a pro and knew her way around it. She showed me the ropes lol. Honestly, if you are here? When in Rome. Go all out and try it, since it's where they shine here. They took off a few menu items and added some themed drinks. ( a couple new champagne themed drinks) They have big entree items but I suggest small bites and sharing and mostly coming for the drinks. There's no bathroom inside, so you do have to leave the bar and go to the closest one (over behind Randy's donuts) and then enter the speakeasy again Both times coming here I've never had an issue. It's a small, packed place. And yet they still have the cocktails flowing and the food coming out in a good time. So the food and drinks are good Atmosphere is lovely. Service is good. Especially for it usually being very busy in here This place is located inside the Anaheim packing district. So I suggest hitting up a couple other spots before or afterwards for some more food or drinks P.S. it is very dark In here. They never cared if we used our light to look at the menu. However, they do not want flash photography They also do not strictly enforce a dress code (my friend from Nashville asked) however, they suggest dressing business casual and not too underdressed

I really liked the clarified strawberry drink, similar to strawberry and cream. I ordered a drink after that unfortunately forgot the name (photo attached with a tall glass) but there was no special cocktail craft taste to it. Just hard liquor taste and undrinkable :( the bartender kindly offered another drink. Unfortunately none of the food was the least bit good. Steak and fries was ordered medium rare and cooked to medium well with what seemed like no seasoning was on there at all. Crab cake was just ok and the slaw beneath it was drenched in a vinaigrette that was just sour and unpleasant. And the Mac and cheese, as we were very hopeful and looking forward to, was probably the blandest Mac and cheese we ever had. We asked the lady bartender for salt and she handed us, no exaggeration (and you guys will probably think I am) a salt shaker with 10 grains of salt in it and said "looks like there's a lil something you could still get out of there" My jaw dropped. But yeah. The shredded meat on top of the Mac and cheese was cooked beyond the point of edible. That one was unfortunately sent back bc we just couldn't eat it. We were bummed over all mostly about the food.

I was lucky enough to stumble across this gem of the center of OC when they first opened - and I am proud to be a regular here. I don't know how to go somewhere else - because I feel like the staff are giant gems in this jewel of a spot. Winters is a curator of boozy information that has helped me learn about "gin" and "root beer whiskey" so I can sound like an adult-ish purveyor, when really I know close to nothing except being a willing student to his creations. Dan the Man and Jacob always see me raise my hand in the corner of the bar, like the student I am, and have been willing to fill in the blanks for me when I know I am of thirst, but do not have the words for what to order. Every person working in the well has treated me with kindness - they have taken the time to get to know me, and I will be forever appreciative of how they have taken care of me over the years. But the real joy has been the transformation that this spot has for building a community of people in Santa Ana for real recognizing real. I have been bringing my Dad with me to play pool for the past few years. Sometimes people ask me if he plays professionally, I am terrible, and my skill incline is slow, he is patient and plays with the same level craftiness that the staff offer the cocktails. My Dad is always stoked when we have time to go have a few hours of games at 616 - especially now that there are regulars on 4th street that are excited to see that he is there playing - and they rush to write their names on the chalkboard to challenge him - or beat him in a game they really earned the W. On lazy Sundays, I watch couples sit with their drink, listening to Jazz, and watching my Dad whoop my ass while making amazing shots. I am forever grateful to Memo who sometimes takes a break from his shift behind the bar to give my dad an actual challenge - which allows me the chance to watch my Dad enjoy fellowship around the table. Knowing the table was a relic of the bars former self, and knowing the history that this spot has in Santa Ana is a reminder that so much around us can change - but it is those moments of the crack of the rack, the cheer of getting the combo shot, and the shake of hands when it's over that shows that it's not just about the pool table - but about the energy of a place that is welcoming and curated by people who care about what they do - and care about who comes through their doors. Thank you Jason and Mike B to bringing this to 4th St and supporting the community that was already here - and for building a community for the future. Thank you to Christina and Brandon for always having amazing pictures, decor, and fun events at 616 that help introduce new folks into this great spot. Time is short. Learn about Root Beer Whiskey. We were escorted inside and our hostess immediately started introducing us to the lore of the place: a capsized ship with the space decorated using pieces recovered from the wreckage. The room is VERY dimly lit, and we actually stood near the entrance for a moment while our eyes adjusted, but honestly that just added to the atmosphere. On the way to our reservation in the Captain's Quarters, our hostess gave us a little tour of the main room and even pointed out the bathrooms for later. Once we sat down, we met our bartender, Drew, who was fantastic. He walked us through the different menus, explained the food and cocktails, and really added to the experience throughout the night. I'm normally a whiskey drinker, so I started with the Southeast Spice Trade while my girlfriend ordered the Pineapple Whipped Colada. Both were delicious, but half the fun was watching Drew make them. You could really see the amount of care that went into the craft and presentation of every drink. For food, we ordered the chicken katsu and ahi poke nachos. I was especially excited when the nachos arrived and I realized they were made with wonton chips. I'm a sucker for wonton chips, so those were an immediate win. We obviously couldn't stop at one round of drinks, so next came the Tarobi Colada and Zombie King. Drew told us a little about the history of the Zombie King and gave us a lesson on rum, so I had to try it, plus it came in one of the coolest mugs I've ever seen. The Zombie King was easily my favorite drink of the night. The flavor was fantastic from beginning to end and dangerously smooth. I didn't even realize how much it had hit me until I stood up. Even leaving was part of the experience. We finally checked out the bathroom and the door has what feels like TEN different locks on it. It genuinely felt like I was locking myself inside the bathroom of an old pirate ship. Between the storytelling, incredible atmosphere, Captain's Quarters, food, cocktails, and especially the service from Drew, this was such a memorable night. This is a great spin on a jungle bird, with some complexity and coffee flavor. I'm usually not a big fan of coffee, but it is at a good level. Chi Chi (Whey vodka, pineapple, lime, date, honey, coconut, salt). This has a great creamy texture which I believe comes from the dairy component of the whey vodka. It is well balanced with some sweetness, and I could taste the coconut and date flavors. Lapu Lapu (Asian rum, Jamaican rum, dry curacao, lime, orgeat, demerara). It is juicy, well balanced, and served with a flaming sugar cube on top. This is the cocktail they chose to serve at their booth at Tiki Oasis recently which says a lot, try it! It was a balanced light citrusy drink which was served with a delicious sidecar of Hamilton 151 rum infused with banana chips. I sipped half of that and mixed the rest into the cocktail. It was served with a beautiful ice shell. I'm guessing it was too labor intensive, and took up a lot of space in their freezers. Recently added food: Ahi Poke Nachos (marinated ahi tuna, masago, avocado, cucumber, spicy mayo, furikake, green onion). This is such a tasty starter with so many textures and flavors. I love that the nachos are wontons too, and not just chips. Crab & Cream cheese wontons. Nice crisp wontons with a good amount of crab and cream cheese inside. The chili sauce and spicy mayo adds another layer of flavor, and there is a slice of jalapeno on top for a little heat. Pan-Seared Scallops. This was an excellent lighter entrée. The four scallops are cooked perfectly, and even have a little dollop of caviar on top. I liked the mix of veggies and really liked the bed of potato puree underneath. Steak & Eggs (8oz hanger steak, crying tiger glaze, Nam Jim Jaew sauce, sunny eggs, rice). I normally wouldn't try steak & eggs for dinner, but I can't resist a good hanger steak. It was cooked a perfect medium rare and I appreciate that it was pre-sliced. The crying tiger glaze and sauce were so flavorful. There's plenty of rice to soak up any left egg yolk or sauce. Recently added desserts: Dubai Chocolate Lava Cake. This was excellent, but it's definitely sweet and rich. Save some room if you plan on ordering this. Ube Flan Cake. I'm usually not a fan of flan, but I have to try anything with ube and this was good. The cake had nice ube flavor, and I liked that the flan was a little firm since the looser custardy/gelatinous texture is not for me. This is definitely a lighter dessert than the lava cake. It's not a new drink, but I also had the Naval Grog for the first time. (Lost Voyage rum, overproof white rum, allspice dram, lime, grapefruit, demerara, honey). It is boozy with nice spice notes. Other repeat cocktails enjoyed were Tales from the Black Lagoon (my favorite), Missionary's Downfall, Agave Parrot, Singapore Sling, and Serpents Grasp all of which are excellent. Their cocktails, food, ambiance, and service are always top notch. Thank you Ying, Erica, Greg, Jordan, Joey, Iris, Karen, Kyle, Joy, and John for your wonderful hospitality during our visits. We will return again soon!

From the sign as you enter, through the teeth, to the throaty-red textured walls, The Belly of the Beast encases guests in the whimsical journey down the whale's gullet. Who knew getting "swallowed" would be such fun? Keeping with the throaty theme, the space inside holds a few tables. It's an intimate space with ambient lighting and cheery Hawaiian/beach music. Puppets hang here and there, as well as other thematic, decorative details. My friend and I shared a few mouthwatering apps and imbibed a few delicious concoctions. Our wonderful bartender frim "outside" even came in with us, which made our experience even more personalized. We especially appreciated the complimentary shots! Our food was delicious and plentiful for apps: spam musubi, edamame, sliders, and shishito peppers. Now this is a big deal: my friend has celiac disease. She needs to be very cautious when ordering food. She self-advocates but much relies on the knowledge of servers. Our wonderful bartender, now our server, was very diligent and knowledgeable, and double checked ingredients with the chefs. Accommodations were made. Good times rolled on! Extra heaps of thanks on that! We fully enjoyed every minute of our (generous+) 90 minute time slot here. The service was amazing, the food delicious, and the cocktails made with magic. It was worth the drive, and one I'll gladly make again at next opportunity.

Brodie was on his game all night with drink recommendations, food suggestions and just being a great host for our table. This was our first time to TBotB, so we're went sure what to expect, but we've been to Stowaway many times. The only knock I had with it was the selection of cocktails is limited. While I understand TBotB is it's own thing separate from Stowaway, I wish you could get some of the drinks from there. Most of the cocktails we had were good (but I'm not sure I'd order them again), but the menu had a number of drinks I won't order, they're just not my style. We missed being able to get some of our favorites from Stowaway. We ended up getting a table at Stowaway after our time was up in TBotB anyway because we were having a good time so that was fun. All in all, I think next time we'll stick with Stowaway and sitting at the bar. At least we can check TBotB off our list. It's worth checking out for sure, but for me I enjoy the more classic tiki cocktails. It's fun to venture off the beaten path once in a while.
