Why one star? Horrible customer service from a very rude employee; I wonder if the owner of this business condones such behavior. It was a group of 4; we came inside at around 3:30pm, a totally non-busy time. I think only 1 couple was sitting outside but inside the fence. We ended up buying two desserts and three coffees. We were about to sit outside (didn't see the handwritten sign, among the many signs plastered on the glass by the door) when this employee rushed out and in a very rude, authoritative voice told us that "outside sitting is not permitted for carry out orders"...what the heck!?!?! First of all, we never new and couldn't there be a better and more polite way of expressing that? It was such a turn off! So, we were going to sit on one of the two tables by the curb (on the sidewalk) and she said "the only table you can use is the one by the side, outside the fenced area... so, what made THAT table a more suitable one vs those by the curb??? Clearly, she was very upset we didn't sit to order and/or was having a rough day. We all do but we don't react in such a horrible and insulting manner. I am not going to even rate the desserts since it doesn't really matter, I will never go back to Tartine (by the way, is Chad Robertson from San Francisco and owner of the famous Tartine Bakery) aware that some other business is using his business' name? Delicious cakes! We ordered chocolate truffle and white chocolate Bavarian pistachio. They made a mistake and gave us white chocolate pistachio cheesecake. BEST mistake, ever! Great food & service in Coronado on a beautiful Saturday morning - you cannot ask for more! It's a five minute walk from the ferry landing, or a one minute bike ride. Tartine is a quaint restaurant in Coronado with great food, an excellent pick for brunch during our visit. I highly recommend this place, I would definitely go again! They have great breakfast & lunch items on their menu. I ordered the Croque Monsieur Sandwich with ham, gruyere cheese and dijon mustard on sliced French sandwich bread - so good!! And my husband got the Ham and Brie Tartine Sandwich on French Bread. Both came with a generous portion of mixed greens. We also enjoyed the fully-shaded, outdoor dining option. And we took advantage of the bike racks out front. Coffee was just average. But the service was exceptional. I had a very disappointing and frustrating experience at Tartine. My husband and I were staying the weekend in Coronado and came upon the restaurant which looked cute from the outside patio and we wanted to check it out. However, the food quality was below par for the price. On top of that, the servers were impolite and inattentive, which significantly detracted from the dining experience. To make matters even worse, the supervisor was rude to us as well when we asked to speak with management. It seemed he had little concern for customer satisfaction. This is a regular stop whenever we're in Coronado. Great bakery, breakfast and lunch stop. For some reason we've never had dinner here. This was a great first experience for that. Esposa's flat iron steak was really good. Since she got that, I went with the stroganoff. We loved both. Others in our party enjoyed their entrees as well. Of course, the bread is awesome too! God I hate to write reviews like this. Went there today for coffee and desserts. The man who seated us, Lobo I think his name was, was really rude. When we walked into the restaurant to be seated he snapped at me to wait outside to be seated. I get that he was stressed, but this was uncalled for and embarrassing as I had out-of-town guests with me and told them how great this place was. There's a lot to love about this cute cafe on Coronado Island. If I lived on the island or near it I would absolutely stop by for lunch on a regular basis. What a pleasant and welcome change from all the other brunch options on Coronado! We weren't sure what we got ourselves into when we walked in and realized they had a very French inspired menu (for breakfast anyway, we were looking for your basic mom and pop shop at the time). The menu is diverse and it was really difficult to make a decision. If I wasn't pregnant, it would have been a difficult decision between the pate late, warm brie wheel with fruit, or the charcuterie board! But alas, I ended up going with the croque monsieur - ham, gruyere, and dijon. It was DELICIOUS. At the end of the day, it's really just a ham and cheese with the flavor profile of a Cuban, but it was really so much better than that at the end of the day! My husband ordered the bacon panino which he also really enjoyed. I saw the table next to us got the brie wheel, and the spread of fruit and cheese definitely left me wanting. My husband also commented Tartine probably has his favorite black coffee on the island. I wish we lived nearby, as Tartine would definitely be a go-to breakfast or lunch spot for us! What a cute place! I called ahead to order a Greek salad and a prosciutto panino for pick up. There's curbside pick up, but there's also plenty of parking on the street. I walked up to the counter to pick up my food and decided to order a coffee and a pavlova to try. I ordered an iced Americano with cream and vanilla. I didn't like the coffee at all and didn't end up drinking it. The pavlova was pretty and tasted good. As for the prosciutto panino, I found it very salty and more bread than anything else. The menu stated there was cheese and arugula on the panino, but all I could taste was prosciutto. The panino came with a little mix of greens and dressing on the side. My Greek salad was a good portion and tasty, but the balsamic vinaigrette dressing was not good. It was thick and tasted a bit off for me personally. A nice place for lunch. There's a patio in front with a few tables and some widely spaced tables inside, too. Oddly, it's quieter outside due to the drastically reduced traffic noise on First Avenue and Orange. Inside, due to all hard surfaces and a slanted ceiling to reflect noise, it's sounds sort of tinny and far too many other conversations can be heard. No curtains, rugs, or sound-deadening acoustic paneling, just plenty of noise, like a small gymnasium. My lunch entree was the Nicoise Tartin ($12) which must be French for a tuna sandwich on French bread. The bread was scooped out a bit, and allowed for a very healthy portion of tuna. Which was a little too dry and bland for my taste, but good enough nonetheless. No lemon wedge was offered. The sandwich was accompanied by a very nice leafy salad with house dressing (we weren't asked our preference). One of the components was a round red leaf which neither our masked server nor my wife and I could identify. Alberto, our server, was otherwise spot-on for service. My wife is the dessert freak and ordered a champaigne cream cheese dessert which unfortunately was listed only as 'misc pastry' ($9) on the bill. One of the best places to get a specialty desert for a family member, or a treat for yourself in coronado. They have a nice atmosphere (except in hot weather, there's a lot of nats or flies at their entrance) and extremely friendly staff that know your needs and act accordingly. This is the exact cafe I wish I had in my neighborhood. Everything about it is adorable. The lattes were very good. The bacon panino was very good. And the quiche was surprisingly good--I say surprisingly because I usually don't like bought quiche. I find it usually too dense and the crust too soggy, since most restaurants/ cafes microwave it to reheat, which leads to a soggy crust. I'm not sure how Tartine did it, but my quiche lorraine had a crisp crust and was nice and light. If i lived nearby, I would try every dessert there. The selection was impressive. They're like little (actually, not so little--they are generously portioned) works of art. We picked some kind of chocolate mousse cake, which was amazing. My sister found Tartine via Yelp. We dropped by here on a Saturday evening as we were slightly hungry and wanted something quick, easy and not too overwhelming. (We had GEN BBQ for lunch) Mr. W, my sister, and I all carpooled out from the Marriott hotel...found parking and crossed the street to Tartine. The outside setup reminded me of Paris, except it was way more cramped in Paris than it was here. Walking in, we floated towards the counter to look at the menu and all the amazing desserts in the display and table. After looking at all there was, we ordered the Curried Chicken Salad and a Croque Monsieur. For dessert, we picked a Vanilla Bean Tart, Chocolate Mousse, and a Pistachio dessert which I can't recall the name of. Plus we got a baguette with butter! I am a huge lover of baguettes - huge weakness of mine. We brought it back to our hotel and shared it with my sister's family (husband, 1 teenager, 1 threenager, and 1 toddler). And we inhaled everything (finished all of it) within 15-20 minutes. We all adored my sister's curried chicken salad, THAT WAS AMAZING. I enjoyed my Croque Monsieur, though the mustard was a tad much but still tasty with the salad. My favorite from the desserts was the Vanilla bean tart - light and complete with the fruit. My wife had the Spaghetti Bolognese, which was very good, and so was the vegetable soup. But the star of the show was my pork tenderloin which was served with bock chow, mashed potatoes and gravy. We were visiting friends in Coronado on Saturday and they suggested this place because their friends own it and the food is delicious. Three out of five of us ordered their flat steak and ate every single bite. My daughter had their I believe turkey fettuccine and she loved it. I had the gnocchi and it was delicious too.
