What an amazing place this little hidden gem in Coronado. All the food feels like it was made with love. The croque monsieur is delightful and the greens that go with it next level someone in our group even bought the dressing to take home. Don't forget a dessert we tried. Worst brunch of my life!! Where do I even begin? We were in Coronado looking for a brunch spot and this place came recommended. Since we had never tried a European-style café before, we thought we'd give it a shot. Unfortunately, the experience was extremely disappointing. Everything from the food to the ambiance and overall cleanliness left a lot to be desired. The paninis were unbelievably bland -- they really need some kind of sauce or spread because they had almost no flavor at all. On top of that, the prices were surprisingly high for what we received. The desserts were around $11 each, and they didn't even taste fresh. The bread pudding was so hard we could barely get our fork through it. The only redeeming thing about this place is the location. Otherwise, the tables and floors looked unclean, which made the whole experience even more off-putting. This restaurant really needs to revisit its menu and overall upkeep because, as it stands, it's not a place we'd return to. read more

The host and server did not look happy. Almost as if they were upset with me for being the kind of person who would go there to eat. But that doesn't matter. What matters is the food. And the fact that they sell a tuna salad sandwich with very hard bread (it was warm when it came out, but cools off and hardens fast) and leaves with dressing for $16 when you can get a tuna sandwich with soft bread and a bag of chips for $7.95 just fifty feet away at Boney's Bayside Market. Maybe that's why the server looked so upset with me; he assumed I was one of those rich, out-of-touch Coronado idiots who continue to blow their money on crap like this. I come here for coffee and I stay here for the atmosphere. The baked goods entice me some where in between. This is my favorite cafe on the island to sit down and enjoy good coffee with better company. The patio feels nestled, but spacious offering a great venue to sit and relax. The coffee is very good for a cafe that offers a full pastry and food menu. I typically order the cappuccino here as it provides a good balance between strong espresso and milky lattes. The food is high end and I enjoy exploring something new every time. The eggplant panini is incredible. The rotating stock of baked goods are never the same and I enjoy the surprise of what flavor of scone they'll have whatever day I found myself here. I got a decaf earl grey and the seared tuna sandwich. The tea was soothing. I would've liked a bit more seasoning on the fish itself, but it was quite good otherwise. The white sauce did pull most of the remaining weight. The tuna was also super thick and fat, definitely not a small portion. The bun was also thick and supportive. The fries were generically good. They remind me McDonald's fries a bit, but when they're actually fresh and have nice texture. I get the sense that this may not have been their best items. Nice seating indoors and out. Indoors is very noisy with most of it coming from the staff and kitchen. Very loud. They open early but their breakfast menu is extremely limited. Cafe was very good. Oatmeal was standard. Croissant was very nice and served warm. Seems it really is about the takeout pastries until lunch. Wouldn't come back with a group for breakfast unless you want coffee and light food. Lunch and dinner menu are more extensive. Example they don't serve any eggs at breakfast unless you buy the $20 quiche. Service was decent but no follow up in the taste of food nor cafe check. Seems they were busy still setting up the tables and getting squared away. Example: They delivered the table flowers at the end of my meal as a drive by with no words. Just plunked it down. Should have that done before they open. Get a reservation for outside tables. They offered a table but then told me the best tables were reserved. Was here for a good bit and no one ever sat at them. Va bene. Tables and floor were a bit dirty for starting the day. Overall a solid 3 based on selections, cleanliness, price and value. Food was good, service was terrible, my wife orderd a tea pot then asked for honey, we had to ask numerous times, by the time they brought it, tea wad cold and to top it off it wasn't even real honey, it was so runny and tasted nothing like honey. Server was nowhere to be found, basically ignored us. We had to ask another server for our bill then no one came to take our CC...I had to go up and pay at cashier. So I think similar to other reviews we waited a bit by the sign that requests you wait to be seated, until I saw someone walk past me to the register so we waited in that line i let to get to the front and again not be acknowledged by any stay for a few more minutes. Then when we did begin to order they asked "to go" and when we stated for her is when we were seated. Overall waiting to order maybe took 20 minutes? I can understand- there was little staff present between orders bussing and making drinks. It's a large restaurant so it's hard to staff. The food was delicious, we ordered a pavlova, the banana chocolate chip coffee cake, a charcuterie board and two coffees. I could have been happier with the meal. Stopped at this Cute little European style cafe in Coronado to celebrate with a friend. I liked the feel of the restuarunt. It reminded me a lot of an outdoor French cafe. We ate outside and there were alot of flies, but they have table fans to keep them away (I only realized what it was halfway through my meal). My waiter Nate was kind and attentive. Positives: As far as food goes, I really liked the Cheese platter with Baugette as a shareable with friends. It came with goat cheese, Blue Cheese, and Brie with fruits and an amazing nut bread. The dessert here was to die for! I had the white chocolate lemon tarte and my mother had the Ricotta Pistachio tarte and it was delectable! Negatives: I asked for hot tea, but had to return because the tea was in a plastic bag even though it is Organic, if you are trying to steer away from microplastics, order the coffee. For my meal I had the Eggplant Panini, the bread was perfect and crisp but inside lacked in flavor. If you order this ask for a side of their balsalmic dressing, it really made it delicious. It came with a side of greens, I am normally a salad person but the greens tasted so bitter. I recommend getting the fruit instead. We were in town visiting in late April. We've always come here for breakfast, but never for dinner. So, we gave them a try for dinner. Rachel was our server and she is a sweetheart! We so enjoyed talking with her. We ordered the salmon and beef stroganoff. Both were excellent! So often salmon is overcooked, but this salmon was cooked perfectly and well seasoned. The beef stroganoff was the best we ever had! It's not a traditional recipe, but has tri tip, cremini mushrooms, onion sauce and gruyere cheese. So delicious! We also ordered a mocha which was very good and a chocolate peanut butter Pot de Creme (which was good, but we really couldn't taste much peanut butter). We returned the next day for breakfast and Sergio was our server. He was very personable (Tartine hires terrific servers). The quiche, as always was very delicious and we had another mocha. My friend brought introduced me to Tartine a couple of months ago. I had the curry chicken salad & loved it. The service was great, loved the cozy cafe vibe. Last week my husband and I stopped in for dinner, he had the fish special & I had salmon salad. also tried vanilla mascarpone cheesecake for dessert, which was amazing. The food was alright but overpriced for what it was; I ordered a ham and Gruyère quiche slice with fruit and a vanilla latte. The quiche crust was difficult to cut, and the eggs had the consistency of store-bought tofu. Coffee was good, though. We arrived at the left entrance, which apparently did not have the "wait to be seated" sign for some reason, and when we entered, the one that greeted us was annoyed. Inside, another server took our order, but got my quiche's side wrong and gave a rather rude question of whether one of the people at my table were "done picking at their food". Atrociously loud ambiance almost all of the time we were inside, so consider an outdoors seat. Overall, very disappointing for a nice-looking casual European spot. read more

Tartine is our FAVORITE! The beef stroganoff is fantastic. We love the variety of desserts. The whole wrapped lemon tart is gorgeous as a hostess gift or dessert for a dinner party. It was a Wednesday afternoon at about 2:30pm. As soon as I approached the outdoor host stand, I was immediately greeted by a waitress and also by a busser. It wasn't busy, so there was no wait, but I did observe some "regulars" as the staff were personable with them. Love to see that. It's a sit and be served type of place but you can also order pastries and such at the counter to go. The staff were excellent. I accidentally knocked over my full glass of water when I pushed my laptop forward, the busser immediately came over to clean it up and the waitress brought me a new cup - all very nice about it. Atmosphere: they had background instrumental music playing. It can be loud by noise of coffee machines and such, so I wouldn't recommend it if you're looking for a quiet place to work or study from - unless you don't mind the noise, I didn't. I ordered an ice chai tea latte and a raspberry crumb loaf. The loaf had this nice crisp outer crust and was moist inside - I'd have it again!The chai tea latte was light in spice and decent - only decent because I like it more spiced! I will go back and have something off their food menu. I enjoyed the atmosphere and they had great service, plus it's literally across the street from the bay. We came to this place on a Friday afternoon to snag a cookie on the way to relaxing by the water. This place has a patio and inside to sit for a meal, however, the inside was quite snug. I had to squeeze through to view the cookies. The staff at the counter were very polite and answered questions that we had. They outdoor patio area looked quite cozy and the interior also had a cozy, relaxing aesthetic. I didn't get a chance to sit down and order a meal, but I'm giving this place 5 stars solely on their cookies. These large cookies were perfect, in my opinion. Tartine is so cute! I love the cafe feel of the indoor and outdoor seating. It's dog friendly too! They have peanut butter dog biscuits for .75 cents each. You can come here for a meal or just to enjoy some dessert and coffee. We stopped by here after lunch to grab dessert to-go. The cherry apple crumble is not too sweet, but so delicious and will fulfill your sweet tooth craving. The employees here are super welcoming and friendly. I've lived here for 12 years or so. I use to regularly go to Tartine for deserts. Four of us went last night and today, and had the same server. The deserts were good not great last night and the breakfast was atrocious today. Yesterday we were confronted by the same waitress over a tea that my step father brought in where she pointed to the "no outside drinks" in a dramatic way on the menu. Today, the quiche hadn't set so it was like eating a liquid egg scramble without flavor. The sandwiches ordered (eggplant) were rubbery and over cooked. The soda was delivered in a can with a straw. The waitress was rude again to our table and to other tables who walked in the restaurant. We should have just got up and left but we had an hour before we needed to go. On 2/2/26 I had lunch with friends at Tartine. We ordered coffee, a quiche and a charcuterie board. Our server was Patrick. The quality of the food was acceptable. The service was not. I have dined at Tartine for 20 years and I never had a server as disinterested, unaware and non-chalant about "service". Salvador seated us. When Patrick arrived at our table, he "greeted us" in a perfunctory manner- while he was busy and distracted by in-coming guests. While taking our order, he was distracted again by the activities around him. When he served coffee, his tray table came uncomfortably so close to my face that I had to move out of the way. His serving style was not appropriate. He took my quiche order incorrectly. When I brought it to his attention, he seemed surprised - and quickly asked if I wanted the order changed. I said no as my friend's food was already served and timing was an issue. After a few minutes, Patrick returned with the "correct quiche". I thanked him for it and finished our lunch. Overall, it seems that Tartine sounds like a 3rd class diner. The LOUD clanking of dishes, the continuous grinding of coffee made for a very unpleasant experience. Not the Tartine I enjoyed in years' past. The payment of the bill was another frustrating experience with Patrick. Seems that math was not his best skill. I've been to tartine only 3 times and I feel like I would be a regular if I lived in the area. There is something about the simplicity of this place that makes it so good. Service is always friendly and the soups are always so good. They had three kinds of bread pudding today and I chose butter pecan and damn it was perfectly divine.
