This is such a cute, small coffee shop to study or hang out with a friend at! I ordered the Latte Irimshik once and the tary americano, which both came with some sort of cheese crumbs that has spongy-like texture; It is subtly sweet. This is my favorite find out of two separate trips to Chicago. The next time I'm in the city. This will be a top priority. The best word to describe this breakfast, the staff, and the decor is delightful. If you have a massive appetite, try this on a different day. I'm honestly amazed that anyone would give this place anything below a 5 star rating! My husband and I were visiting from CA when we found this place and it is absolutely charming. We ordered the cottage cheese pancakes, tary Porridge, tary tea, and tary cappuccino. The servers were very patient and helpful when it came to their recommendations. We were pleased with everything we ordered. If you're weird about textures with small grains then the tary items might not be your thing, but they have plenty to offer outside of that. The pancakes were amazing! I definitely left wanting one more of those. The music was chill, which helps to make it a good place to work for an hour or two, too. Overall highly recommend! read more

The cafe experience with artisan delicious food! Despite the name, my favorite part was the diverse selection of food they offer here! Each dish was presented very well. If you are dining in you can choose your own seat, then order at the front and they will bring it to you. Atmosphere in here is interesting to look at with a patterned rug and maps on the wall. What an amazing experience. The atmosphere is what first impresses as you encounter a clean and minimalist dining area with full visibility to the preparations of your breakfast. Fantastic locally owned kazakstanian restaurant in river north. Went for breakfast. I had a machiato with homemade waffles initially. The waffles are rolled waffles comparable to waffle cones. The go great with coffee but not heavy like Belgium waffles are. I ordered onion soup (French onion) which was delicious as well as an egg scramble. Simple foods but everything made from scratch in house, high quality ingredients. Service was wonderful. Very clean inside. Highly recommend, will be back for dinner items next time. read more

Cute cafe! Great place for a quick weekend brunch, especially if you want to try something new/a different cuisine. Very pleasant staff, busy on the holiday weekend but we were able to get a table for 2 pretty quickly. You're able to put your name on a waitlist for a table. Very cute place, but service is extremely slow. Looks like they don't have enough staff to manage the place. They don't clean tables on time, and I had to wait for over a 30 minutes to get my 3 pancakes and latte even thpugh the place wasn't very busy. Staff is very nice though. read more

Everything is home made and organic. The food and coffee had good presentation but the food was bland and the coffee wasn't good. My boyfriend and I both felt dissatisfied. We got the scrambled egg on brioche which was supposed to have cream cheese and Parmesan but I think it was left out of both of our dishes. It was just overpriced egg on toast. There is an add on to the coffee they'll convince you to buy that you can stir in or eat but it doesn't add any flavor to the coffee and clumps at the bottom. If you want to try it, just go up to the counter and order they'll bring out your food. I don't recommend though. read more

Absolutely amazing food! Went to Chicago for a weekend trip and this cafe was just a couple blocks away from the hotel. Friendly service, great tastes, and very interesting menu. Never seen this coffee shop in our neighbourhood before. That was one of the best burgers I tried in Chicago especially with that little salad. It came with a sour drink, couldn't understand at first, but staff told me about it's history & how nutritious it is, every sip was becoming more enjoyable than prior one. There isn't a lot of Kazakh spots to go around in the city or Chicagoland, so the fact that we have such a delicious option in the heart of River North is something that shouldn't be taken for granted. You may not have heard of Kazakhstan outside of a silly 2006 movie, but don't let that be what shapes your impressions; come on in and let the food do that for you. You might not recognize the names of some of the items, but you won't be unfamiliar with the flavors. This is the perfect spot for someone seeking something different but, perhaps, "not too exotic". This was my second visit to this restaurant, and it will definitely be my last. The restaurant requires customers to order and pay at the front before seating. We left an 18% tip upfront, but the service that followed was the worst dining experience I've ever had in the US. Although the food is delicious, the service from one female server was appalling. When we arrived, the only available table was pointed out to us by the server, who instructed us to order first before sitting down. After placing our order, we found that customers who arrived after us were seated at the table that was supposed to be ours. The server did not reserve the table for us, and we were forced to sit at the bar table near the entrance. Our drinks and first dish were served, but we didn't receive any utensils. It took seven or eight attempts to get the server's attention before she finally came over. When we asked for utensils, she glanced at us and walked away with a very bad attitude. She eventually brought the utensils, but rolled her eyes at us, as if our request was unreasonable. Throughout our meal, she continued to roll her eyes at us multiple times, making us feel extremely unwelcome and discriminated against. The female server seemed to be preoccupied with her phone most of the time and failed to greet new customers promptly as they entered. Her behavior suggested a severe case of racial discrimination, which is utterly unacceptable. Management needs to address these service issues urgently and ensure that all staff members are trained in proper customer service and basic hospitality. Until significant improvements are made, I cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more

It's definitely a family place - just not one we had gotten around to visiting. On this visit I had the protein power scramble and paired it with their absolutely delicious biscuits and home fries. My daughter had a cinnamon swirl pancake that she enjoyed, but it was took big too finish. Not a problem as she demolished it the next morning. Definitely will be back and we won't 20 years this next time!

The pot of gold was really good. There were little "gold nuggets" on it and that was my daughter's favorite part; good thing since I didn't realize it had a layer with Bailey's in it. It was very rich, and the cauldron was really thick chocolate (and actually was a struggle to get into, a bit!). The restaurant is small but it didn't feel crowded. We never felt rushed or unwelcome, and we were there for a couple hours (longer than I realized; it took an unusually long time to make two reuben sandwiches). Here are some details: -employees very nice and inviting -clean and organized space -open until 10pm! -not only is it a cafe but it's also a 'bar" - wine, beer, etc. -free WiFi -plenty of outlets to charge electronics -quiet - perfect for working - was there from about 2-4pm -has a mini-store in the back should you need extras (food to go, toiletries, etc). -audio of birds chirping when you walk inthe front door - love this Nimble has landed on my list of top coffee places in Chicago. I can't wait to visit them in the evening to check out the vibe!

What isn't forgivable is that the potatoes had three times the normal amount of salt. Before you say yikes, I have a bigger one for you: the chicken sausage; this was burnt to the point of charcoal! Yikes. Then came a different visit at happy hour. I wanted to order the first item on the drink menu, but they were out of an ingredient. I wanted to order the second, but they were ALSO out of an ingredient. The drink the bartender made me was good, but not what I initially wanted, or the backup I wanted to it. As for an app, I ordered the spiral potato, which failed as bad as the breakfast. First, it was cooked inconsistently, with the inside being underdone. Worse still, it too had an obscene amount of salt. A case when I sent food back. Final verdict: I will give T.G.E.C. credit for great pastries, but that is where I have to stop. While the prices are somewhat reasonable, in exchange one gets WAY oversalted and overdone or underdone food. See a drink you like on the menu... they don't have it. At this rate, I rather go elsewhere, for the area is far from a desert.

Great quality, they use La Colombe Coffee, originally La Colombe Torrefaction) is a US coffee roaster and retailer headquartered in Philadelphia. The company currently has cafés in Philadelphia, New York, Washington, Boston, and Chicago. La Colombe is representative of roasters that originated in the third wave of coffee, and was one of the early pioneers of direct trade coffee sourcing. The only thing is that they do not offer flavors, so that's the only downside.
