Blah. Not their fault (I think), but Tasca totally made me puke. I came with a couple of friends for dinner and arrived around 7 pm. The host told us the wait was 35-40 minutes, but whispered in my friend's ear that "that's what we're supposed to say, but you'll get the next big table, so it might be like ten minutes." Great. Well, it was definitely 40+ minutes of waiting. I wouldn't mind if the host had not made that weird remark. It was also weird as waitresses kept asking him to decide who he wanted to seat first; isn't this kind of thing a first-come, first-served basis? I also saw people with reservations being asked to wait. In short: poor operations here. When we sat down, I was ravenous since I'd only consumed veggie juice that day. I scarfed 4 or 5 pieces of bread with hummus. The food was bland, but I just needed blood sugar so I didn't mind. The menu is vast, but nothing I tasted really had a great flavor: bland's the word all around. I sampled sizzling shrimp and ordered fried calamari, goat cheese empanadas, and a duck lug. I started feeling nasty after eating the bread, I think because I just had some kind of stomach thing going on. But, I ate my first two plates and took home the duck. Service was okay. Our waitress had trouble remembering our drink orders. She could have written stuff down! Food was mediocre. Tasca may be Spain's biggest accomplishment since Rafael Nadal. Seriously, not only is the food epic but the portions are generous and the prices are affordable. You won't find anything that beats this combination but I dare you to try. I said it at Casa Mono and I'll say it again: no one makes octopus like the Spanish. Make sure to get the Pulpo de la Gallega - it's the best octopus I've ever had. The Salmon Ahumado was a huge slab atop a potato pancake so good it could have stood alone, and the Lamb Mollejas were interesting, featuring the only white wine flavor I've ever liked. The Confit de Pato is yet another memorable dish - juicy duck on a bed of red cabbage, but nothing beats the Stuffed Red Peppers filled with a seafood-loaded paella. Tasca may not be the only tapas restaurant I've ever liked, but there's very little stopping it from being one of the restaurants I like best. My only issue with Tasca is that for all the trouble of venturing out to Brighton on a weekend, I might as well hitchhike to Spain. So...umm...anyone wanna give me a ride? read more

This was by far our favorite place to go/suggest to everyone looking for a great Boston restaurant experience without the headache/enormous bill. First time in since the new owner and unfortunately it may be the last time. Service was good and food wasn't terrible, but I don't think I have ever thought that in the 8-10 times a year for 5+ years we have been going. The zagat flyer they have on the menu board out front shows exactly how far off this restaurant ... Nothing against change, but the business plan no longer seems like a "must go to spot" for an exceptional experience. Sadly, it's like they are less concerned with the neighborhood support and more comfortable falling into the flooded sea of "just another Boston restaurant". I think I like the idea of tapas more than I actually like tapas. I always expect them to be more full-bodied bites, but instead I am left wanting... something. The tastes never seem to add up to a complete whole for me. I took my dad on a rainy Wednesday, groupon in hand. I was feeling mischievous by taking him and sort of clouding what "tapas" were exactly (his idea of gourmet is food where you must use a fork). The sangria was to-die-for. Could use more fruit. The bread they gave you was boring and forgettable. We ordered the croquetas and costillas. He loved the costillas (or maybe he was just hungry), but the croquetas he deemed too spicy. Spicy? No way Jose. They were buttery and had good texture, but no spice whatsoever. For our meals, I had the paella, which was missing... something. He had the 10 oz Black Angus filet mignon, which came in a little tower over mashed potatoes and onion rings. He was in love. I'm giving it four stars because maybe I order the wrong things. Good gracious. I never log on to do bad reviews (I try to screen out bad restaurants carefully), but this is my first time, and with hope my last. You're probably wondering how a 4-star restaurant could merit a rating so awful. I don't know how it got 4 stars, but myself, I was tricked into eating here. This was the only place to accept Yelp reservations during a holiday week in the area I searched. But if you value the integrity of your stomach, don't make my mistake. I brought a table of 5. Not a single one of us liked our food despite the $150 mountain of tapas and entrees we attempted. I personally suffered through their garlic shrimp (the "best tapas dish"), which floated in a revolting bath of oil, cooled, sat, and later became part of a polite "not it" game of who would finish it. As for drinks, expect even less. The sangria would have at least had more flavor if they'd used kids' juice boxes for the mixer. Finally, I have never entered a place so filthy yet sporting an A rating for cleanliness from the City of Boston. Chairs and tables ingrained with dirt since their opening -- you'll find cleaner places to sit in the NY Times Square McDonald's. How I longed for disinfecting wipes! In the end, queasy, we put a hasty end to this meal and sprinted for the best burger and shake place we could find. En garde! read more

Love this place! I didn't even want to love it- my heart belonged to Tapeo for quite some time until I recently decided to venture out and see what else was out there as far as Spanish tapas goes. We went because we heard about $5 sangria pitchers and um- that's all you need to say to get me there, let's be real. We sat downstairs, and it was a really nice atmosphere- and I was totally surprised and excited that there was a guy playing Spanish guitar :)- probably because I am going to Spain this summer and this just got me even more anxious about it. We weren't that hungry and were honestly craving the sangria more than anything else, so we ordered one tapa dish each and shared. All were fantastic though! Yum Yum Yum! My friend and I came here after searching for parking for nearly 10-15 minutes! I ended up taking a risk and parking within the Whole Food's lot around the corner -- We came to find out as we were leaving that this is where they park your car for valet! When you first walk into Tasca, it feels extremely warm and inviting. We were shown to our booth/table which could have easily seated 4 people. Bread with hummus is served to everyone to start off, then the waitress comes around to take orders for drinks. Of course, I had to order a glass of Sangria. Little too strong for me: but still good! My Asian glow came out right away! We both decided to try out their Pre-Fixe $18 3 course menu which Tasca offers Sunday through Thursday. I ordered Lobster and crab bisque with creme fraiche as my appetizer, Herb crusted roast tenderloin of pork in demi-glace with scallion mash and sautéed spinach as my main course, and Warm Apple and Cranberry pie A La Mode for dessert. My friend had the Rabbit and duck cazuela with white beans, smoked ham hocks and chorizo as her appetizer, Shrimp, calamari, smoked salmon and mussels in a light white wine cream sauce over linguine as her main course, and Pina Colada (Pineapple and Coconut) Sorbet for her dessert. Because I signed up for Tasca's mailing list, I received a coupon via email for an additional free dessert, of which we decided to go with a House made hazelnut cheesecake with Bailey's Irish cream sauce. The Verdict? My lobster/crab bisque was just OK. I wish I would have ordered my friend's appetizer, which turned out to be more substantial and flavorful. Most of the appetizers offered on the Pre-Fixe meal contained beans, and I'm not too big of a bean fan. My main course was amazing. The plating presentation was beautiful. There were 5 cuts of pork medallions sitting on a large bed of scallion mashed potatoes. The pork was cooked to perfection, the potatoes very flavorful, and the spinach delicious as well. I snuck a taste of my friend's linguine dish - it was a little bit too seafoody for my liking, but it still, she enjoyed it very much. Then came all three desserts: holy. cow. The cranberry apple pie came out warm with 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream - the taste of the two hit the spot and made everything feel complete. If that wasn't enough, the cheesecake was also good, though I wouldn't have paired it with Bailey's Irish Cream Sauce. The Pina Colada sorbet was also amazing, but like other Yelpers have noted, it comes out very frozen. While eating, I got to eye several dishes that people nearby ordered - they all smelled amazing and is even more reason for me to come back! read more

Came here on a Friday night with a Groupon in hand. It was super busy, but we were greeted promptly and seated right at our reservation time. I thought the tapas were great and generously portioned for the price. The recommendation was 2-3 per person. Depending on what you order, 2 was definitely enough. We stuffed ourselves and still came home with a box. We ordered: 3 Pulpo a la Gallega - tender. The real star was the delicious potatoes underneath. 23 Setas al jerez - these mushrooms were so delicious. I ended up dipping everything in them. 32 Fideos con marisco - the lobster broth was delicate and flavorful. 33 Croquetas de Bacalao - the surprise star of the night - we loved these! Lamb Sausage w/ Israeli cous cous - which I don't see on the menu anymore. The sausage was smoky, the cous cous was very acidic. The flavors definitely packed a punch. Tasca is great for a group of 4 or larger. Not only is the space laid out more for large groups, but then you also get a chance to try a greater variety. With just 2 people, our table felt cramped as we were seated right next to 2 other couples and people were constantly squeezing themselves by us. I usually don't write reviews on Yelp, but my recent experience at Tasca has pushed me to this. For the past 3 years, this has been my go-to restaurant in the Boston area, not only for Tapas, but for ANY food. Not only was everything on the menu absolutely fresh and amazing, but the wait staff were very knowledgeable and friendly. However, its come to my attention that they have recently switched owners and the evidence of that is apparent as soon as you sit down. New staff, albeit new, seem to know almost nothing about the menu or how things work at their own restaurant. When asking for separate checks, our waitress visibly sighed in front of us and said, "oh, boy." At least keep it to yourself and not show it to the customers? In terms of the food, the portions have been cut and so has the taste!!! Some of the prices have gone up a little, but I'd say its mostly close to the old ones. Patatas Bravas used to be my go-to favorite dish, with the small potatoes and red and white sauce. Now, their plates are much smaller and the potatoes themselves are completely different and tasteless. On top of that, they just seem to smother that red sauce all over every dish! I don't even think they have their delicious white sauce anymore. Worst of all, I used to love the bread and dip they used to give in the beginning. Guess what? Now, they don't even have any sort of on-the-house bread anymore! We asked for bread, and were literally just given sliced up Italian bread with no dip that we were charged for!! TERRIBLE. I've been to tasca a few times as it is close to BC and has a convenient location by the B line. Parking is also not a problem if you park at whole foods which is right around the corner. The food is pretty good- pollo AJillo, pisto manchego, papas bravas, spinach artichoke empandillas. We also love the paella negro (squid ink paella). Some other tapas are not very memorable, but not bad. Drinks are good. However, it can get a bit expensive even for two people. I think the paella is worth the money. Tapas can be small. I think Tuesday they have $5 tapas and that's a good deal. Overall it's a solid place, but with a meal + drink- usually $50 per person. It can be hit or miss depending on what you order, make reservations if you can sometimes it can get crowded on the weekends! read more

My wife and I came to Tasca for years; it's where we had one of our first dates, it's where we got engaged, and also where we shared many a meal with friends and family over the past six years. We booked our reservation for Valentine's Day dinner in advance, and as we were seated nearly on top of our fellow diners we looked puzzlingly at each other as to why they were packing folks in so tightly. I asked the hostess for a new table and mentioned the fact that a nearby open table was where I had proposed to my wife. An emotionless reply of "oh that's nice" further confused us until our server arrived. "Yeah so there's new management, there have been some changes..." Indeed. The prices have either stayed the same or increased, some new dishes were added, but the portion sizes reduced, in some cases drastically. We would typically split four or five tapas plates and be satisfied; seven plates later during this dinner and we were still hungry. The tab was eclipsing $100 for seven mediocre plates and a pitcher of sangria, so we paid our bill, left a healthy tip for our waitress, and left. The food wasn't bad... it simply wasn't a hundred dollar meal. I'm sure Valentine's Day is a big earner for both a restaurant and its staff, yet no communication with their customers was made that the menu had changed or that the restaurant was under new ownership. Instead, the messaging was left to the servers, who seemed almost apologetic about the changes. At best this is poor management, but for such a neighborhood staple and on such a busy night was a glaring oversight that felt deliberate and disingenuous. The only reason this restaurant isn't getting 4.5 or 5 stars is because of service. Our server was relatively aloof and slow considering the restaurant was pretty empty (we went early on a weekday). But the food was great! We took advantage of their stimulus deal with 3 courses for $18! That is insane, especially in Boston. My entree, the chicken with the chorizo stuffing and mushrooms, was especially delicious and they definitely do not skimp on the portion sizes. I liked 7 of the other nine items, and others at the table liked the two I didn't. The one real down point was the wine. Someone else at the table ordered (and tasted) the dry red wine. Although the taste of the wine was fine, the temperature had to be in excess of 80 degrees. This was the warmest red wine I have ever been served at any restaurant. If I had been the one tasting, I would have sent it back and told them to put it in the freezer for a few minutes. We were in for a surprise! Every single dish that we ordered was absolutely delicious. We had the Txistoreas a la cidra, Calamar a la parilla con aioli verde, Fideos con mariscos, and asparagus. The Calamar a la parilla con aioli was cooked perfectly and had so much flavor! The seafood in the Fideos con mariscos was fresh. I've been waiting an hour for my check. Paying cash is apparently not an option. Nothing is being comped and our waters aren't being refilled. When will we be freed, Tasca? The goat cheese wasn't worth this. UPDATE: You know, I will update this review. The card system was not what had crashed, it was the kitchen computer. We were not given the option to tally our meals ourselves, one waiter was forced to go through every table and hand write it for us. It took an hour and a half AFTER our meal to get our check and not only was the restaurant not particularly apologetic, they weren't refilling waters. I haven't come Tasca's about a year now but my cousins were interested in trying so we decided we will dine here for our Christmas dinner. It was my fifth visit here. I had made reservations for 7:00pm however we were hungry and went in around 5:15pm instead. We were seated right away, upper level booth. They had a Christmas tree next to us so it was definitely a nice vibe. We ordered two pitches of sangaria (pomegranate and red). I have to say the red wine is way better. For the tapas we got: calamari, potatoes, mussels, salmon, escargots and portobello mushrooms. I feel like the portions have definitely gone smaller and smaller from the time I came here two years ago. However the food were still good. The seafood paella was good however they were missing that slightly burnt/crisp on the bottom of the pan. We ordered a flan and tiramisu, both were delicious and one was free! We checked in on Yelp and was able to redeem a free dessert :) thank you Yelp! And saving the best for last....THE BREAD! Super delicious, very fresh and warm. They come with a side of hummus. I have been here with a friend a while ago. We had some type of salad with beets that they were kind enough to split into two for us. I was disappointed that the sangria deal mentioned in the reviews (if u sign up for their email news) is no longer valid. The tapas were a bit pricy. It can be a nice place for a date as the decor is someone dark/dramatic/romantic but not a place to go to eat every day. Rafael was our waiter. He was so friendly, attentive to all our needs. We shared a beef, chicken and lamb tapas. The beef and lamb was delicious. The chicken was just ok. We also had fried calamari with aeoli that was yummy. We ordered 2 desserts and shared. The one with ice cream wrapped in a thin crepe was so yummy and plenty for 2. The bread pudding was ok but not served hot like I prefer it. The atmosphere was authentic and had a nice european theme to it. I will definitely be coming back!!! read more

This place has okay tapas but definitely doesn't warrant all of the positive reviews it's gathered. Many of the Spanish tapas staples were not present on the menu such as pimentos de padron. The paella was way too moist and didn't have the great bottom of the pan cook that you expect from the dish normally. Most of the food lacked the flavor I would expect from a good Spanish restaurant. The patatas bravas were pretty decent and the gambas al ajilo was good as well however nothing mind blowing like I've had at other places. Definitely avoid the braised beef dish, it was very lacking and tasted like something I could get at a normal American restaurant. If you're looking for great tapas head to Toro or Barcelona for sure! read more
