I've been going to Taskin for a few years now and this is not the first time I have had an issue. The cafe is open 24 hours and was a good place to study for a student like myself. Each time I come, I intend to study. I purchase my item(s) and choose a spot to hunker down. It seems like ownership does not like patrons studying and sitting without constantly buying items. For example, today I bought pastries and rounds of tea for my cousin and me and after a few hours were harassed by the manager claiming we had been sitting there for 5 hours without ordering. Quite sad, as I enjoyed their food and the environment. I will not be back. I enjoy supporting small businesses, but I will go to Starbucks or Panera where I won't be harassed by an owner/manager. read more

The experience starts as soon as you enter when all of the sudden you're hit with the fresh scent of baked bread along with pastries, delicious cakes and coffee. There's great seating to hang out like Starbucks with friends. The breads range from round fluffy pide to sourdough loaves. There are a variety of baklava to puddings to layer cakes. Love the borek! Well worth the trip if you are craving fresh baklava in bulk and other yummy Turkish baked goods. It is a full bakery, not a coffe shop. Their spinach pies are works of art! If they made nothing but that, they'd have me as a regular customer. But I also love their fresh-baked bread--especially the wheat bread. And pastries they make that are stuffed with cheese (or lentils, or potatoes). And I buy their homemade noodles for soups I make at home. They are open 24 hours a day, which I also like. They've expanded quite a bit since I first started going to Taskin Bakery, years ago. My family and I came here looking for a good coffee shop. This is a hidden gem!! The staff is very friendly, they let us sample their sweet treats, it was so yummy and the coffee was amazing! I was visiting the east coast and I came here twice. I had borek, bazlama, gozleme, and simit from here. They were all really good nearly as good as the ones in Turkey. The simit was what got me really excited, it was the closest I have had in the states to simit in Turkey. I would recommend this place to simit lovers! read more

Last night was the second time in a 2 month period that I've been helped by the same guy whose managed to show his lack of good manners - asking me to read labels when asked about the availability of x item. Implying he doesn't know what I mean when I ask him to provide me with the freshest product; which took me a couple of seconds to process, enough time for him to decide he'd jump into helping the next customer. After another staff member kindly finished taking my order, I was ready to pay BUT to my misfortune, this guy comes back to bring me up. Bagged my goods and managed to fuck up by literally throwing the bag in front of me like a puppy waiting for his meal (even after extending my arm so he could hand it to me like any other normal person would) - clearly this guy managed to ruin the whole experience! I have been craving their pogaca for days now since my BF got me some last week....I've had some from other places before and I never liked them...but Taskin's pogaca is EXCELLENT! I actually woke up at 5am, drove out to Paterson and got back home before my kids woke up! They don't take credit/debit cards which kinda sucks but their food is worth every penny! My husband and I decided to go last night around 12 midnight. Figured we'd check it out since we got the munchies and they were supposed to be open 24/7. I'm giving them 3 stars because when we got there, parking was still difficult to find because it's limited. Most of their boreks and gözleme were sold out. We ordered our teas, and asked for some of the remaining boreks we picked out to please be heated up. They said they'd bring it over to our table. Instead they left the hot boreks on the counter to get cold and never brought them over, nor called us that they were ready. Mind you it's around 1am, there are people seated at tables, but it's not so crowded they couldn't have spared a person to bring them over. I didn't bother with getting dessert. To make the trip for a midnight snack, gas and tolls from Staten Island was a major letdown. Prices are reasonable to an extent. But the minimum of $15 for using a card is ridiculous, especially if you want to sit down and get tea and boreks for a little while and then pay for everything in one shot. If your service is not up to par when its not prime hours and your place isn't packed to the gills, I can only imagine the service one gets during the day. If the owners are looking at these reviews, they ought to take note of the complaints. read more

I only had some of their bread and their baklava but what I had was absolutely delicious. The baklava is the 2nd best I've ever had (the first was made by a family friend's mother so it's tough to compete with that). The baklava is everything you want in baklava. Flakey, flavorful. The honey is soaked in beautifully and richly and the pistachios are diced very finely. Absolutely delicious and I'm happy to have had some amazing baklava!
