Our family have been eating at Taste Cafe for almost 5 years. It never disappoints. We usually get take out and even after we get home, the food is still warm and delicious. My wife and I dropped in (Sept. 20) based on the high reviews on Yelp. The staff was super friendly and attentive. I ordered the ranchero chilaquiles and they were awesome. Loved the chorizo in the chilaquiles! My wife ordered the linguisa omelette and it was unfortunately disappointing. It was basically a veggie omelette with a few slivers of linguisa. We ended up switching plates and I might've gotten two little pieces of linguisa in my half of the omelette. I would like to go back, but just not order the linguisa omelette. read more

I'm very particular with where I go to brunch because well, if you're gonna do brunch, then you better DO IT RIGHT. To be honest, I scrolled right past Taste Cafe on Yelp because it really didn't seem like much. We decided to go elsewhere for brunch, only to find the placed closed due to being short staffed. Walking back to the car with our heads down and tail between our legs, I opened up trusty Yelp once again this time Taste Cafe demanded my attention with it stealing the #1 spot on the list. I gave a few of the reviews a read, scrolled through to see the good to bad review ratio, perused the photos, and told my chauffeur (aka my partner) to drive. It was located in a shopping complex that I've been to many times but never noticed the establishment in. There's construction and renos happening around the place, so a measly banner hanging up is all they have to show you that they're there. The place is cute and cozy. Nicely decorated and very clean. The service is okay. The waiters and waitresses are there to do their job and their job only. But they are nice about it. The prices are a little high, but let me tell you--the price and the portion size match up a lot more than other places. Sometimes I think I talk (well, type) too much, so here's what you're probably looking for: FOOD REVIEWS: - CHILAQUILES RANCHEROS: I thought I had the best chilaquiles of my life in Santa Cruz. I was wrong. The chilaquiles here are the absolute best I have ever had in my life. A reviewer actually said that in her review and I was skeptical about it, but I am now humbled. THESE ARE THE BEST. LOOK NO MORE. - HOUSE OMELETTE: I only had a little bite off of my partner's plate, but that little bite told me everything I needed to know. The egg was cooked perfectly and the omelette was not dry at all. We always order hash browns extra crispy, and the cooks did not hold back on that. - BANANA PECAN BELGIUM WAFFLES: I love me some waffles and this was no disappointment! It was nice and crunchy but still managed to be as soft as a pillow. It wasn't super sweet, which was nice, so I was able to eat the whole dish. Taste Cafe, you've conquered this brunch enthusiast. I used Yelp to look for a great breakfast spot in the town of HMB- was torn between this place or Granola. The location was not in the cute downtown area but in a strip mall (which isn't problematic) and construction was currently happening outside the restaurant. This made it challenging for my 90 y.o. Mom with mobility issues to get into the restaurant. Our waiter was friendly and our food arrived rather promptly. I was in need of a strong jolt of caffeine so ordered a latte. Sadly, I tasted no espresso at all-was mostly milk with maybe a touch of coffee. My scrambled eggs order was plentiful and the eggs were fluffy. The home potatoes were nice and crispy. The sourdough toast did not taste like real sourdough- the jam was really the jelly that comes in little packets (ugh). My mom had the Belgium Waffle- apparently it comes with the corn syrup version of "maple" syrup- there was an extra charge for real maple syrup. I've not heard of charging more for maple syrup if it's authentic. If I could give a 3.5 rating for the restaurant, I would. Not a bad place, overall, just a bit of a miss for me. read more

Decided to take a run to Half Moon Bay. Looking for someplace to eat breakfast we came upon the Taste Cafe. The menu had lots of appealing items and the reviews we good. We got there when it opened and were seated right away. It filled up quickly. The waitress was friendly and quick. It took about 20 minutes to fill our orders. The food was hot and fresh. I had the moon scramble. I was drawn to the chicken and spinach. It was very good. They did not skimp on the chicken. I got fresh fruit (cantaloupe and honeydew with a few grapes) and gluten free toast. There was more than I could eat. Hubby had the Mexican omelet. He really likes chorizo. It came with home potatoes and sourdough toast. He cleaned the plate. He said the potatoes were good enough for the meal. I had a decaf coffee. I noticed other reviews critiquing the coffee. We went to Taste for a birthday lunch with friends and were disappointed. The food wasn't impressive -- the watermelon was old, and the salad should be avoided. When we asked for a candle, the staff replied that they don't give free desserts even though we never asked for dessert. Tucked into the side of a very busy Safeway/McDonald's shopping center is this great spacious café, with lots of table and outdoor seating. Ambiance is clean, simple and roomy, including the bathrooms. The wait staff is friendly and attentive. Even when busy the food arrives quickly and is delicious. In Half Moon Bay for a meeting, we had a free morning so we looked for a good breakfast spot on yelp. I saw that Taste Cafe had a number of scrambles that looked good and since we were watching our waistlines pre-covid, we decided to grab a late breakfast here. We ordered the Mexican and Salmon scrambles, which came with three eggs each. The Mexican one had chorizo, onion, tomato, cheddar cheese, jack cheese, and it was topped with avocado and black beans. The salmon scramble had smoked salmon, cream cheese, green onions, and tomatoes, all topped with hollandaise sauce which we skipped. The scrambles were large on their own but they also came with potatoes - hash browns, home potatoes, french fries - or cottage cheese or fruit. The dishes were also served with a bread option. The scrambles were really good. While I probably could've used a little more salt and pepper on mine, they had enough ingredients to really pack some good flavor in them. I would recommend skipping the hash browns as they were incredibly bland. The hot chocolate that I got was rich and absolutely delicious. This was a cute, no frills local spot that delivered on a good breakfast. We left satisfied and with take out boxes. read more

Always love the egg Benedict so I tried Florentine Benedict. The egg Benedict itself is a bit over cooked for my taste bud. Food is okay. The hash brown is good. On a weekend trip to the area, we decided to try this place for breakfast today. I always love an imaginative spin on French toast, although will likely come back tomorrow for one of their many, outside the box versions of eggs Benedict. I have to say that the bananas Foster French toast ranks in my top 5 lifetime plates of French toast that I've ever had. The toast had a nice crisp on the outside while soft on the inside. The toast itself was also nice thick pieces of quality bread. The bananas were carmelized. It was all topped with piping hot maple syrup---absolutely DELICIOUS. My husband had the all meat scramble, with breakfast potatoes. His portion was very generous and he thoroughly enjoyed his dish. Planning on returning tomorrow, before we head home. read more

So I had no idea there was this big shopping center at the end of Hwy 92 in Half Moon Bay. Why should I? I ain't no local Half Moonie. Driving from San Francisco, I'm either heading further south to some place even more obscure like Pescadero or turning left to go to San Mateo. But turning right? What for? Anyhow, I was surprised to find myself in a huge parking lot surrounded by the usual suspects - Safeway, CVS, Starbucks... It appears to be a locally popular spot for pancakes and eggs. I had just finished a hike on the stunning Cowell Purisma Trail down a bit on Hwy 1 when a massive Indian wedding party took over the road. I thought I should grab a bit of breakfast here before heading home. I went for the $12.99 Veggie Egg White Scramble, a healthy creation with zucchini, mushrooms, spinach, artichoke hearts, and feta cheese. Consistent quality and freshness, helpful staff, & best breakfast burrito. You'd think breakfast burritos would be an easy thing to get right but they're not. But- They get it right. Crispy hash browns, the cheese is melted all the way, the eggs and meat is perfectly proportionately combined (really great chorizo, that's what I get) and it arrives so hot and takes forever to cool down so I don't have to it eat fast to enjoy it warm. Plus they serve it with two kinds of fresh salsa. I ask for sour cream for mine in combination, but anyways- simple and the best just because of how it's prepared. Cold wet items on the side. What a neat and fantastic little surprise in such an obscure shopping center! My friend and I were in the area, and we were researching good places to eat after a long day of hiking and driving -- A lot of local restaurants were packed, so we had a hard time finding a place until Taste Cafe popped up in our search! Previously, we had been in this shopping center before for the Safeway, however we had no idea this amazing restaurant was here! Upon entry, they have decorated the wall with clocks displaying different time zones. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming. I was surprised there weren't more people, but it is tucked away in the corner of a shopping center. I ordered the Moon Burger (amazing) and my friend ordered a Tuna Melt. Although their breakfast menu looked delicious, we were craving something a little more hearty. Nothing like a large, delicious, and well-cooked meal to get your afternoon started! Service was good and the menu items were all very reasonably priced.
