This was recommended to us by a friend since we were visiting from MD and it lived up to the hype. I'm still mad my leftovers didn't make it on the flight with me. We made a reservation and that was absolutely necessary after seeing the wait upon arrival. We were seated immediately which was plus. The upstairs is a bit cramped but they made decent use of the space. The environment is very laid back but vibrant, music was rocking and it's VERY black in there which I love. Our server was Brian and he was the best. I was torn between the taste of soul and the catfish and grits and he was so patient and helpful with me as I mulled it over. We had: Garlic and Herb lamp chops - 10/10 - they were so moist and flavorful I have no notes. The order came with 4 so it was great to split. Calamari - 10/10 - no notes, the texture was perfect the portion size was perfect and the aioli was a great paring but they typically serve it with marina. I asked for a lemon on the side and they brought one grilled, I didn't ask for that but I was happy with the assumption. Catfish and grits - 10/10 - the portion on this plate was insane, INSANE. The grits? Please, put me in a room and give me some privacy because wow. The texture was so creamy and rich without overpowering the catfish. It got to a point in the meal where I was just eating it so I could taste it even though I was spreading like a peacock on the inside. The only thing I would change about this dish is the amount of Cajun cream as it was a bit heavy handed for my taste. I skimmed some off the top and that worked for me. Peach cobbler waffle - did not taste but my friend said they were good. Candied yams - 10/10 - I typically hate yams, it's something about the taste that's artificial to me but these were amazing. The texture, the hint of cinnamon spice were so good I had seconds. Greens - 5/10 - my least favorite thing. They were so salty I couldn't finish my bite. After my friend mentioned us being there for my birthday Brian brought out this cute slice of cake and sparkler before he started hooting and hollering and I enjoyed that haha. Thanks for making our service enjoyable Brian, we will be back.

If you're an oxtail lover, do yourself a favor and order them. The oxtails were absolutely incredible--fall-off-the-bone tender, rich, flavorful, and smothered in a savory gravy that had me wanting to lick the plate clean. Every bite was perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection. The sides complemented the meal beautifully, and the entire plate was comfort food at its finest. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because the service was pretty slow, and the music was a bit too loud for my taste. It made it difficult to carry on a conversation at times. That said, the food--especially those oxtails--was worth the wait. I'll definitely be back when I'm craving some of the best oxtails I've had in a long time.

Food was fresh, seasoned perfectly, and came out quick. Not a single miss. Our server was AMAZING. Super detailed, gave her favorites, and even helped us adjust our order for pre race. Honorable mention to the R&B playlist... 10 out of 10, no skips. We might have to spin the block instead of trying somewhere new in Houston

Yelp family, you didn't fail me!!! We decided to have brunch here based on reviews and went ahead and made a reservation (make the reservation, you'll thank me later) for brunch on Sunday. We walked in and was seated quickly. Brian was our server. Brian got us started on waters while we looked at the menu, we ended up ordered calamari and wings (jerk/orange pepper) but was told that they were out of calamari and decided on the cauliflower with general tao's sauce. I got the Nearest Peach drink with whipped cream on top and order the Taste of Soul but opted for oxtails. The appetizers started the meal off right. The cauliflower was a great highlight as everyone enjoyed it (someone even mentioned ordering another one and even ordering to take home with them), the jerk chicken was good although the jerk was a little on the drier side than the orange pepper was. However you know food is good when you don't have to add anything to it (salt, pepper, hot sauce) and that's what was given to me. The greens had nice heat to them, the yams were sweet and delicious, the oxtail still had a little too much fat on them for me, but it didn't stop me from getting into them. The cornbread waffle was a nice little addition. The rice with the gravy was a nice bite. Seriously, I just sat there and smiled because this plate of food didn't disappoint. If you like liquor, you'll like this drink. Seriously, there's nothing that has me questioning if I would come back and try it again. My sister has the blackened catfish and grits which she enjoyed, my friend had the fried catfish and grits which she said the cream sauce made the dish . . . No complaints from us. The place gets busy so I highly recommend making that reservation. It has a busy, lively vibe and when you walk in, do get intimidated by the size as there's a whole upstairs section. And the service Brian provided was TOP NOTCH!!! He made sure that when we walked out, we were satisfied. GO!!! Thank me later.

I haven't actually got to dine in at the new location but did place a to go order for the catfish and grits. I was craving a really good catfish and grits with a cream sauce and this definitely exceeded my expectation. I would like to give them a try dining in, but I saw they require a $50 deposit per person which is a little excessive so I'll just continue to order to go for now. The sauce was flavorful I do wish the catfish was fried a little hard, but that wasn't an option when you ordered to go. I definitely recommend trying this based on my experience for to go. I hope to make my way in one day to see what the ambience and service is like.

Chose Taste Kitchen because they had all day waffles! Went to celebrate a friends competition win & her request was waffles. Went had a large group ~20 people. I would say this place is not fit for large groups. Could only seat tables of 6 all next to each other. Ended up booking through their large party coordinator which requires a deposit, fair as it's a large party. Prior to booking, attempted to just book through OpenTable - even there they require a $50/person deposit, non refundable, which seemed a little extreme. Our waitress was fantastic, attentive and had great suggestions. Overall the group seemed to think the food was fair. Those of us that got waffles were very happy. The jerk chicken was super flavorful and waffles were so fluffy. The Jerk lamb was also great! One of the best Espresso martinis I've had in HTX. If you're wanting a place to be able to have a conversation, this isn't it. The music was so loud you could hardly think, let alone have a conversation without shouting at each other.

Had a little bit of a wait but it was a conference weekend so I'm not surprised. I really loved this place and cannot wait to come back. The drinks were great, the chicken was THE BEST, and the Mac and red velvet waffles were worth every penny. I can't wait to come back to Houston and eat here. One of the best meals I had during my recent Houston trip was here @ Taste! It came recommended from a lovely young lady that worked in the Galleria Mall. Me and the homies came by on a late Sunday morning to check out this deliciousness we heard about. The place itself has two levels in which we got seated upstairs. We could overlook the bar downstairs where all the TVs were. We had a nice server by the name of Demiya, in which they were a bit soft spoken but effective on covering the menu. Was very hungry so wanted something really good so I went with the Seafood Omelet. It comes wit shrimp only in reference to seafood so maybe they should change the name lol. The smoked gouda cheese definitely adds great flavor to it...needless to say, this is a great omelet. The woman at the mall told us the pecan praline waffles was the move here! One of my homies got it and she was right...very damn good! No syrup needed at all. So much good stuff on this menu. I would definitely return to Taste when I come back to Houston! Great place, food and service.

Okay we are a party of 7 so we tried many dishes. But let me say that we ordered and reordered and then reordered fried cauliflower This recipe was the star of the show for all 7 of us. Could not get enough. The strawberry salad comes with a bourbon vinaigrette dressing gross needs work. We asked for it to be on the side but they put it on the salad the staff was so sweet totally amazing staff. The grilled shrimp and Gouda loved the cornbread my nephew rated it 3 star. He really was Not too impressed but the Service is top notch. Mixed drinks omg three drinks left me feeling Whow great. Needless to say this is my second visit here and I will always return here

Celebrated a birthday here with friends and what a great experience! Brian was our server and he was phenomenal. He provided suggestions, honest feedback and asked questions to ensure that our needs were met. I ordered catfish and grits with mocha coffee and saying it was delicious is an understatement! We also received complimentary appetizers for completing a Toyota survey. I ordered orange pepper/ jerk wings. Cauliflower wings coated in general tso was also ordered and was tasty. Friends ordered cocktails with their meals and they looked and smelled great. I look forward to returning to Taste in the future and hope that Brian is our server. I highly recommend!

Taste Kitchen & Bar has one of the best happy hours I've found: great flavor, solid portions, and a fun atmosphere. I was in town for AfroTech, so it was definitely packed, which may have influenced the wait time ( we had a reservation and were fine but some one right after us didn't and it was a 2 hour wait) and the overall energy, but it was still a good experience. What I recommend: Jerk Lamb Chops - my top pick. Full flavor and cooked well. Chicken & Waffles - surprisingly good; crispy and well-balanced. Cocktails - creative presentation and good pours (pictured). Things to know: It gets loud, so this is more of a vibe than a quiet dinner spot. Make a reservation, especially on busy weekends or conference weeks. Happy hour is absolutely worth it--good value for what you get. Overall: I'd give it 4 stars mainly because of the volume level, but the food and happy hour make it worth a visit. If you're looking for great flavor, good energy, and strong cocktails, Taste delivers.

I stopped by Taste Bar with some friends and the food did not disappoint. Surprisingly there was not a long wait time to be seated even with my party of 7. Although Im told I got lucky . I ordered the Taste of Soul plate and everything on it was fire the fried chicken was crispy, the mac and cheese was creamy, the candied yams were perfect, and even the cornbread waffle hit. We visited this restaurant Wednesday morning for breakfast at the recommendation of hotel Club Quarters and it did not disappoint. We had the shrimp omelette plate and all I can say is OMG. The food was so delicious we went back for happy hour and enjoyed the lamb chops with greens and yams. Their food is on point and served with awesome seasoning. The food is delicious here. Ordered some buffalo wings to go with our drinks and they had heat. So flavorful but good with spice. The drinks are made well too. I had been to the old location a few years ago and really enjoyed my food. We decided to visit the new spot a few weeks ago on a Sunday and were surprised there was no wait for a party of 3. I was able to get a parking spot right on side of the building after making several passes looking for a spot. Inside was lively. We were seated upstairs. At first 2 servers gave us menus, water, and utensils without saying a word to us. We were confused by this. About 10 minutes later a friendly different young lady greeted us and took our orders. Well I am on my US tour, my first stop is Houston, Texas. I'm spending a little time with my nephew, two Goddaughters and my Besties( since Elementary school) for our Annual Galantines Celebrations. So after my 2 hour flight; I was famished so my nephew suggested the restaurant Taste Kitchen + Bar in the heart of H-Town. The restaurant was Absolutely Gorg; very spacious with a main floor and upstairs. Live DJ , playing awesome music On a Tuesday none the less. The place was LIT . Full Bar and open kitchen (which I absolutely Loved) ; some of the Most Gracious staff that I've had the Pleasure to be in their presence. Our server was Kevin and he was Very very attentive, handsome and knowledgeable about the menu. For starters...we ordered the loaded French fries ( you all know of my LOVE for fries) all of their fries are hand cut Real Fries. Ohh so Delicious. I ordered a Jack Daniels & coke from the bar before I saw the Full, plentiful bar menu which includes Champagne and fine Wines. We sat close to the open kitchen and was able to see some much of their Amazing dishes before they were served. We both decided on sandwiches that all come with a side of your choice. I got the Jerk Chicken sandwich and (of course) more fries. Nephew ordered the General Tso chicken sandwich with MAC & cheese. We wanted to share the sandwiches so Kevin informed the chefs in advance and the sandwiches were cut in half. Overall Experience was Definitely 5 Stars for the time you walk in until you leave. I love Taste Bar. Ive been here a few times, even DoorDash twice and every time my food has always been consistent. From the time you walk in, the service is always on point (this has been my experience). This is a great place to stop in to watch your favorite team play, music will have you singing along and again food has always been good. There is limited street parking. There are a few paid lots. Rideshare is the best option but usually you can find a park. This is the one place on Houston where i know what im getting. No complaints. If read more

If there was a zero rating then I would rate the entire experience a Zero. Service triple Zero. Food I would rate that a 3 I was hangry by the time the food came so I ate it, over seasoned. Soul food doesn't transfer over to salty! The street walkers up and homeless people outside the restaurant was more appealing than the service on the inside. Will never come here again. And for having to prepay for our reservations and to receive the poor service, please do better! read more

The cutest restaurant for either a date with your sweetie or a girls night out. It's definitely a vibe from the time you walk in until the time you leave. They played good music but the volume could be decreased some so you can enjoy conversation over your meal. There is a full bar, if you like to partake, and the seating is two story. It was a weekend visit so it was busy but not so busy that we had a long wait. We did arrive around 7 pm and as we were leaving, the crowd seemed to be coming. The party I was with really enjoyed their food and it came in heavy portions. I have food allergies that focus more on seasonings. Unfortunately, the chef had gone for the day and the sous chef and kitchen staff wasn't sure of all the ingredients used in the dishes I was interested in. I had a dinner salad with Cesar dressing. Not much to brag about but the salad was fulfilling. Our server was very knowledgeable about menu items and made suggestions to some of the party members who were there for the first time, like myself. She was fun, energetic and although had quite a few tables, she didn't miss a beat. I would go back for a night out to grab a glass of wine but would definitely eat beforehand just in case all I can get is a "safe" appetizer. read more

I can tell you know that this place is always crowded! The vibe is super casual. They play r&b music (which I love). If you are planning to visit, be sure to book a reservation. Once we made it, they sat us within five minutes. The sever was super helpful and friendly. We started out with drinks and appetizers and got them pretty quickly. I ordered the oxtails and grits. They were good, but they don't give enough for the price. Maybe it was a bad batch. The oxtails didn't have enough meat on them. I also had bacon and eggs. They were good and prepared the way I like them. This is a cool brunch spot that is definitely worth the try if you are in the area! read more

This past weekend we tried this spot out for brunch while visiting from VA. OMG it was amazing. I loved the vibe. It was a beautiful restaurant. It has plenty of seating. It got crowded quick so definitely get a reservation. It didn't take long to discover why. The food was so good. Our server, Diamond, was absolutely the best. We loved her personality. She went out of her way to make sure the meal was just right. I highly recommend brunch. The Mac and cheese was the best I've ever eaten. Everyone was thrilled with their choice in food. All the plates were empty fast. My cocktail of choice was the Side Car. It was a 10/10. I can't wait to go back on my next trip. read more

The menu options were good offering a wide variety of savory to sweet and savory flavors. It's good for brunch and dinner. I tried the elevated grits and selected catfish. Overall it tasted well and was a bit salty towards the end. The service was excellent, our waitress was bubbly and attentive. They have seating upstairs and downstairs, upstairs was freezing though. We had coordinated prior to for our large party and knowing we had elders in our group requested first floor seating and did not receive that and were a little upset that was not communicated. Stopped by for brunch and I must say our food was delicious! Like really, really, good. I had been craving grits so I opted for the catfish and grits and my friend ordered the lamb chops with the savory grits on the side. We both enjoyed our food and were so glad we came. We also ended up trying the elderflower mimosas and enjoyed those well. Our waitress was great, super nice and made us feel welcome. It was still kind of early, so the restaurant wasn't packed but people were definitely starting to trickle in. If you arrive no later than 12/12:30 you shouldn't have to wait longer 10 min. in my experience. Overall great vibe, great food, and I can't wait to come back. read more

However, the hostess, who had zero interaction with us, came to our table as we were already packing up to say "I need yall to get up and GO so I can seat more people!" Very RUDE and unprofessional. I spoke with the manager whom I doubt would make any correction. She had the nerve to say "Have a good day" with a smirk as we left. Word to anyone running a business, CUSTOMER SERVICE is a priority. I am writing to express my disappointment with the way our party was treated during our recent visit to your restaurant. We paid a $500 deposit upfront for our reservation, and our total bill for the evening exceeded $700. Despite this, we were seated late, the drinks from the bar were delayed, and our food was not brought out in a timely manner. To make matters worse, one member of our party received their food cold. Then, while we were still finishing our drinks, a front desk staff member approached us and told us we needed to leave our table because it was needed for another waiting party. Considering the amount we spent and the multiple service issues we experienced throughout the evening, being rushed out before we had even finished our drinks was completely unacceptable. It made our group feel unwelcome and disrespected. I do want to mention that our actual server was wonderful throughout the evening and did their best to provide good service despite the circumstances. Unfortunately, the interaction with the front desk staff overshadowed the experience. What was also disappointing was the response from management when we brought the issue to their attention. The manager stated he would speak with the employee, yet he never even asked who the staff member was. We ultimately had to point her out to him ourselves. It was difficult to feel that the matter was being taken seriously when no effort was initially made to identify the person involved. I understand restaurants can get busy, but this situation was handled very poorly and lacked professionalism and consideration for paying guests. I hope this matter is addressed to prevent other customers from having a similar experience. read more

I can't say enough good things about this place. Music was on point with R&B pumping through the speakers. Service was excellent as everyone was knowledgeable, attentive, and friendly. Kevin was fantastic!! He explained the menu in detail, gave suggestions, and was very attentive to our needs from start to finish! We will definitely request him anytime we're in town. Taste Kitchen + Bar really delivered on their namesake for me! The food I got here had great taste and I enjoyed the experience. The day I went there were initial plans to go elsewhere but this ended being one of those I'm thankful it did situations. Going on a Sunday to a place known for brunch I went in knowing there would be a wait but for the time of day it was I don't feel like the wait was too bad. Inside it's a nice clean aesthetic. I feel there is a nice amount of space inside between tables with the bar having TVs that can be viewed from up and downstairs. I always enjoy an open kitchen design even though from some of the seats the kitchen is not very visible. Coming in I wasn't quite sure of what I wanted and put the waitress through it but she was very sweet and helpful even with me making changes after I ordered. From a service aspect I feel they delivered amazingly. The food I had was very delicious and some of the dishes surprised me. I'm not quite sure of the name of the drink I got but it was very good. I believe it may have been a pineapple lemonade. I ordered the Jerk Chicken & Waffles with a side of Eggs. I didn't think about it but the waitress asked if I wanted to add cheese to the eggs, which I immediately said yes to. I'm sure she asked because she's had many people who enjoy cheese on their eggs so I think it's a sign of good service to recommend things that you think a customer wants without pushing extra items. The eggs came in with golden cheese melted overtop to the point where someone with me asked if it was mac and cheese. They were fluffy and cheesy and tasty. The waffles were 4 mini waffles and I got them with their standard toppings of strawberries, blueberries and powdered sugar. Simple prep but done well and good. Now for the jerk chicken I didn't think things through fully. I've only ever had fried chicken when having chicken and waffles so I didn't think through this would be grilled chicken. It wasn't quite what I was expecting but it was cool and I looked later and saw they do offer fried jerk chicken which might've been a better fit. The jerk flavor wasn't that strong to me and the chicken was a little dry so this would be the only part that I was only at okay on. Not the happiest with the chicken I decided I'd add some wings, which I must say was the best decision I made there. I had never heard of, yet alone tried Orange Pepper Chicken but decided to take the chance. It was BANGING! The wings were large, juicy and the flavor on them was unique and hitting. I don't know what all I'll get on my next visit but I know for a fact I'll be getting Orange Pepper Chicken Wings. My mouth literally watered just typing the words here to talk about them. The people with me got various other dishes that included more chicken, chicken wings, fish, fries and waffles and everyone with me seemed to enjoy themselves as well. Even though I don't drink whiskey I love that they had Uncle Nearest prominently showing on their bar selection with an Uncle Nearest barrel. Taste is a place that I've passed by so many times and half of the time wondering how the food inside was. Now that I know how good it is, it's now a place that I see and look forward to the next time I'll be inside enjoying the great food and service that they offer. read more

My wife and I pulled up here during our visit to Houston. They had some great happy hour specials going on which included lamb chops. The lamb had jerk seasoning, it was A1. The drinks were hitting. We also ordered some collard greens and Mac and cheese and I have to say, that Gouda Mac is the best Mac and Cheese I've had in a restaurant. Our waitress was super attentive and nice and service was attentive. A great experience overall, I got to watch the Knicks win on the big screen too. read more

The food itself was delicious! We got the onion rings appetizer, and you could tell they were made to order. They were super fresh and also crispy. The chicken parmigiana was good, and they were not stingy with their portions at all. The picture I took doesn't do the dish justice. We finished lunch with an order of homemade bread pudding and tiramisu, the latter of which in 2012 won a chamber of commerce epicurean competition 1st place ribbon. I wasn't there to judge that competition and have had better, but sincerely appreciated the moistness of the bread pudding. While the majority of diners were older and a more mature crowd, there's a lot to be said for value, and we thought the menu price was better than reasonable and I think a lot of people will discover this as a value destination, something we all appreciate.

She then text our friends group and said we all had to come together and we did just that. She made reservations in advance as this place is popular thanks to recent Michelin Bib Gourmand awards as well as many other accolades. Walk ins are welcome as well. Our reservation was later in the evening so after a night of bar hopping, we ride shared in which I think is one of the best options as parking is limited here or you have to find street parking in the neighborhood. This place is literally a house turned into a restaurant. Inside is just multiple rooms with a couple of tables. It makes for a unique, intimate dining experience, perfect for a date night. In our case, we were a group of nine so we got patio seating. The patio is spacious and well kept, and if the weather cooperates, a great place to hang. One thing that really stood out to me is the amazing ambience of this place. I was told that the bartenders pick the music for the night from the owners extensive vinyl collection. Once the album is in, they play it in it's entirety. The sound system was systeming and on top of the great company and food, we were totally vibing with the music. Customer service was amazing. Every staff member we came across was so friendly, especially our server. The menu here changes. There are some mainstays, but they like to change things up. Their website shows current menus daily. We were told that family style is the best way to experience this restaurant. I am one of those people that will always listen to the staff and go with their suggestions. Our group went through quite a bit of their menu from apps, entrees and desserts. I loved that our server and staff brought our food out one by one in what they thought was the best progression so we could take a culinary journey. We started off light with their popular Dilly Bread. Best bread I've had in awhile. Next was the Texas Tartare. It was my first ever tartare and it was delicious. We then moved on to Fingerlingin Good which was a crispy potato dish with chili crisp and mascarpone. It was potatoes elevated to the highest level and so so good. Next up was Beer Battered Sweet Tots. I didn't think sweet potatoes could be that good. Our first entree was a vegan dish called the Carroty Kid. I could seriously become a vegan if all dishes tasted like this. It was curried. A bowl of jasmine rice would've made it a complete meal. Next we tried another famous Nobie's dish called Nonno's Pasta. Handmade, perfectly cooked tagliatelle with a delicious bolognese. I wouldn't share this next time. Ok, I will, but it was that good. On to the heavier dishes. First up was the Jamon With Your Bad Self. This came highly recommended and it did not disappoint. It was favorite heavy entree. It was high quality, iberico pork steak with shaved brussels and all kinds of other tasty ingredients that when combined made such a tasty bite. We then went to the sea with the Drops of Grouperter. It was good, but not something I would order again. It was a little too smoky for my liking. Our biggest dish that came market priced was the Kick His Ass Seabass. This was a whole fish that was presented beautifully on a platter with all the accouterments to make your own elevated fish tacos. We left no morsel of fish behind. It was absolutely delicious. One of the things this place is really known for is their pies. This was the part I was most excited about. Just like their menu, their pies change up. We got all their offerings that night which they presented on one big platter of goodness. Their main stay and I believe always on the menu is the famous Olive Oil Cake. It's not a pie, but I can see why this is such a popular dessert. I can't even describe it, you just have to try it to understand. The pies we had were the Black Bottom Strawberry Pie, Banana Rum, and the Peanut Butter Pie. I would order all of them again. We all had a difference of opinion on which was the best, but my fave was the Banana Rum. Overall, I was highly impressed with this place and kind of mad at myself for waiting so long to make it here. It had made it's way to the top of my list of favorite restaurants in Houston. They were acting like the geekers that come bother you just outside your favorite fried chicken joint in south Dallas! Our waitress brought out a table fan so that made the experience a little more tolerable. The chocolate peanut butter pie tasted like a salt rock and the lemon chiffon pie had great flavor but not lemony enough for me. All in all this place is a bit pricey but truly a gem! Today, Friday July 28th 2023. I visited Taste Kitchen + Bar on 420 Main St, Houston, Texas, with high hopes for a delightful culinary experience. However, my visit left me thoroughly disappointed and unable to recommend this establishment, especially to those sticking to an itinerary. Upon placing a reservation, I patiently waited for the text message to notify me that my table was ready, enduring an astonishingly long wait of 2 hours. This delayed start significantly impacted my plans for the day and set the tone for what was to come. When I finally arrived, just four minutes after receiving the notification, I was dismayed to find out that my table had been given away to another party. Greeted from the host who stated what took y'all so long. The poor handling of reservations and disregard for my timely arrival exhibited a lack of professionalism and attention to detail on the part of the restaurant's staff. The experience only worsened when interacting with the host, who showed little empathy for the inconvenience caused and offered no sincere apology. The lack of hospitality and customer service skills was evident throughout my entire visit. In addition to the disappointing service, the overall dining experience at Taste Kitchen + Bar fell short of expectations. The food, although decent, failed to impress and did not justify the exorbitant prices. The ambiance lacked warmth and charm, leaving me feeling disconnected from the dining experience. As a critic, I must sincerely advise against making any plans to attend Taste Kitchen + Bar, especially if you value punctuality and expect attentive customer service. The restaurant's inability to honor reservations and the dismissive attitude towards guests' time undermine the potential for an enjoyable meal. In conclusion, I regret to say that my visit to Taste Kitchen + Bar was marred by poor hospitality, unprofessional customer service, and an overall lackluster experience. My experience at Taste was nothing short of amazing! We arrived pretty late in the evening, but we had called ahead of time. The staff let us know the last seating time and when the kitchen closed, so we arrived with ample time to enjoy our meal. Our waitress, Thai, was absolutely incredible. She helped us pick the best menu choices with thoughtful recommendations and brought out our drinks in a timely manner. She was so accommodating throughout the entire evening. We were visiting from out of town, and this was such a wonderful taste of Southern hospitality. It completely made up for a disappointing experience we'd had at another establishment earlier in our trip. Taste really earned tens across the board! We also had the pleasure of meeting the manager, Jamie, who handled our to-go orders before the kitchen closed. He did an outstanding job remembering exactly what we wanted, answering all our questions, and keeping track of everything to ensure our to-go order was properly bagged and came out on time. To top it off, one of the bussers even took our photo, which was such a thoughtful touch. We really appreciated that extra bit of service! We were seated toward the back near the food window, and it was nice and quiet back there without a lot of foot traffic. There's a bar area with music, and I understand brunch can get pretty lively, but we went during late dinner service. The music created the perfect vibe and mood - exactly what we needed on a Sunday evening. Highly recommend Taste for both the exceptional food and outstanding service. Thanksgiving Takeaway Disappointment!! We recently ordered Thanksgiving dinner from Taste Kitchen - Downtown Houston location with high hopes, eager to enjoy a stress-free and delicious holiday meal. Unfortunately, our experience fell short of expectations. The pick-up process was smooth, and the staff was friendly. However, upon opening the containers, we were dismayed to discover that the turkey dressing and sweet potato pie were both uncooked. We were puzzled, as there were no instructions on the order or the website indicating that these items required further preparation. This unexpected cooking task added an unnecessary burden to our Thanksgiving preparations, and we were disappointed that we had to spend extra time in the kitchen after paying for a cooked meal. The food itself was also a mixed bag. The mac & cheese and greens were enjoyable, but the turkey was dry and lacked flavor, and the dressing was bland. The cornbread muffins were a nice touch, but they couldn't salvage the overall disappointing experience. I placed a to go order at the location and went to pick up another food order at a different place. I came back and the women that took my order remembered me and gave me my bag. I walked back to my office and realized that a part of my order was not there. I walked back to the restaurant and the women was still there and asked me what was wrong I told her t what was missing. She printed out my receipt went to the back snd the missing food was under the heat lamps. she walked back to me and said they could reheat t he food item. I said excuse me. She said that they could remake the food item. I said and I have to wait till they are made (thinking the rest of the order will still be cold). She walkEd to the bar got the rest of my food, put the missing food item in the bag, gave it to me and walk the away ( I figured back behind the counter). So I took a round trip Uber to Taste today and sat at the bar and had Mimosas and ordered a plate to go. My food was brought to me packed up in a bag and I paid the bill and took an Uber home only to find something different then I ordered and something that I do not eat. I called the restaurant only to be told there was nothing that they could do unless I brought the food back. I offered to text them a picture of the food and the receipt showing it was wrong and maybe they could give me a credit or gift card and still no solution. oh wait.... The solution was to pay for a round trip Uber back with the food! Seriously????? what, were you going to give it to someone else? Finally they put me on hold and left me there knowing I would eventually hang up which I did but I held for 20 minutes before doing so. I try to support our people's businesses but this kind of treatment makes it hard! DONT WASTE YOUR TIME PEOPLE!!!! I'm disappointed with the lack of response from Taste Kitchen and Bar regarding a refund issue. I dined there on Sunday, November 9th with a 7:30 PM reservation for a party of five, which required a $250 deposit. This deposit was supposed to be credited toward our bill, but it was never applied. Our total bill was $289.55, split evenly between my card and my friend's. Despite this, my credit card was charged the full $250 deposit on November 10th, and again charged $144.78 on November 12th for half the bill. My friend's card was also charged $144.77 on the same day. I emailed the restaurant on November 14th and also submitted a refund request through their website. As of today, I've received no response or acknowledgment. It's been [insert number of days/weeks] with no resolution. This experience has been frustrating and disappointing, especially given the restaurant's reputation. I hope this review prompts the management to take accountability and improve their customer service. read more

Poor service. Came here without checking reviews, which was our first mistake. We were placed at a random, isolated table by the bathroom even though there were plenty of better tables that were open. Was freezing over there. When we finally had a server, we asked to move to the empty table by the window, in the sun and was told we had to go ask the host (thought that was a little weird), so we did and they said sure. We moved to a table and waited and never had a server. Even saw a server talk to the host looking and pointing at us, but they never came over. Visiting this location on a Tuesday was an amazing experience! As soon as I walked in, I could tell that the atmosphere was fantastic. The ambiance was inviting, and there was a photographer capturing moments at each table. The main reason I'm giving this place a five-star rating is the outstanding service. Our waitress, Sabrina, was very knowledgeable about the menu and recommended the best items for us to try. The gravy was particularly memorable. It had smothered chicken, collard greens, candied yams, rice and gravy, and biscuit waffle with a side of smoked Gouda mac and cheese. The food was super fresh and hot. Our waiter was very nice and even took a shot with us for my birthday. They did not have any COVID-19 precautions, but the restaurant was really clean and the tables were far enough apart to have privacy. The food was good, especially the grits, greens, and lamb. But when I got my receipt for my food, there was a 4% charge for using my credit card. There was no sigh posted about the extra charge. So beware, if you use a credit card, they are going to add an extra charge to your bill. read more
