This order tasted like they didn't change the oil or used old oil to cook my 3 meals. The oil/grease tasted burn. The Mongolian one was very greasy. The noodles were okay. good, but unremarkable--except for the fact that they changed the recipe for their hot and sour soup, which i lived on when i was sick last winter/spring. it used to be a broth bursting with flavor, with mushrooms and veggies and a few shrimp. you can buy it by the quart, and there was one week when i ordered 2 quarts, twice--a gallon--because it was literally the only thing i wanted to eat besides popsicles. now, the hot and sour soup is gelatinous instead of broth, and there is no shrimp. totally different than the version i loved. it tasted ok, but the gelatinous-ness was a little off-putting and the loss of the shrimp also means a loss in protein. please, please bring back your old recipe for hot and sour soup! read more

They gave a complimentary spring roll which was amazing! The place was clean, and service was quick and great. No complaints and will most definitely be back. I've been ordering this place for many years, like more than 10, ever since they opened however long that is. It's not perfect but the place has heart. They don't hire many new people which to me is a sign that the owner has people skills. The dinner rush is best to avoid, like most other campus places, long waits. The food is always something I eat all of. I'd say their food is tasty. I like the red curry, it's not bland. Sometimes is better than others but always palatable and for the price I can't complain. I only visit some of these places after realizing I haven't reviewed them yet. This is somewhere I never thought much of, and rightfully so. It only still exists because of its location. Next door is the revolting Indian restaurant Curry and Hurry, and it's not far from the barely not as bad Indian Kitchen. With competition like that it's pretty easy to stay afloat in business. I like that at Taste of Orient they have a pretty big vegetarian selection. It has several items with tofu. There's general tso's tofu, hunan style bean curd, and several others. All of the tofu entrees are around $7 for the regular size. There's an option for a couple more dollars to get a bigger size. It has many good vegetarian options, better than many Chinese restaurants around campus. It's extensive but it all tastes like crap. The price isn't bad but really so what. You still will overpay for this garbage. It's also very unsanitary looking in the kitchen. They probably have bugs flying around there, so that's no surprise bugs end up in the food. I hate myself for coming to places like this. I like to experience new things so sometimes I try something I normally wouldn't. This is still not the worst Chinese in the city if can you believe that. read more

First time trying food from here. Sorry to say- but I did not like it at all. Ordered salt & pepper Taiwanese chicken and beef chow fun. I should have asked what part of chicken is used. It wasn't white meat and had a different flavor/texture from leg/ thigh meat. I know some places use giblets but I cannot say for certain that is what they used. Either way- I didn't like it. Beef was very hard to chew and pretty much inedible. I wont make the 20 min drive for this place again. The interior of the place was nice and staff was decent though. read more

I was contacted by the restaurant, they offered us another try on the house. I thought that was good business. I got the Honey Chicken w/ fried rice. Maybe I am just used to the Western style fried rice because the fried rice was yellow and very plain. The Honey Chicken was pretty tasteless. My sister got the Yaki Udon, she did not enjoy it. Let me just say, Taste of Orient is my favorite Asian-cuisine take-out in the city! It is my go-to Chinese take-out whenever I'm looking for a delicious, quick meal. Taste of Orient is always reliable and has one of the fastest delivery times.Taste of Orient has a large menu, you are guaranteed to find what you like. Out of all the menu items, my personal favorite is the hibachi chicken and fried rice, absolutely delicious! The spring rolls are also fantastic. Been a huge fan for years! Went today and it was even better than usual! My boyfriend's a huge fan of the ramen. He gets the miso broth with the chashu pork. It's a great price and very tasty. My personal favorite is the crab Rangoon. It's crispy on the outside, and creamy on the inside, and the sweet and sour sauce is always on point. At 6 Rangoon for $4.55 it's one of the better Rangoon prices in the city and definitely one of the tastiest. We have always had great experiences there and will always go back. read more

I'm not gonna lie to you guys, this might be my husband's favorite restaurant. Personally, I don't care for Chinese takeout. I'm not a huge meat eater, and for various reasons I'd always rather get something else on the rare nights we pick up dinner. So I've never been a Taste of Orient convert, and usually just get some dumplings if he talks me into ordering. However - He last week he told me they now do poké bowls and man did that change everything! Now we maybe have the opposite problem - ordering Taste of Orient too often! I got a Spicy Tina poké bowl with seaweed salad (so good), cucumbers, carrots, and sweet soy sauce. Absolutely delicious and so much food for the price! I am so happy that I now have a favorite dish from ToO! He doesn't eat meat on Fridays during Lent, so guess what we are getting for dinner tonight - my suggestion! How the tables have turned. Tried ToO a couple years ago, had a curry, rice noodle dish. Not great, not bad. NE Chinese was closed today, so I gave ToO another try. Not a good choice. First I had the Basil Chicken, #28. No Basil to be found, chicken was plentiful, but tough, sauce was a watery broth with little flavor. Fried rice tasted of uncooked flour/starch, and was just rice with yellow food dye. Much worse was the Popcorn chicken. #12. I expect Popcorn chicken to have breading, but also expect to have some chicken. I've been ordering from Taste of Orient for a couple of years now, and I always get the exact same order. I order the pad thai with lo mein noodles (trust me) and then i pour some yum yum sauce over top of it (trust me again). It's so delicious I could eat it for three meals everyday. I also order the pan fried dumplings which are by far the best dumplings i've had. They make them slightly different and are packed full of pork. I can't find any other place that makes them similar. I do have to mention that once I ordered the fried rice and was disappointed. Like other reviews said, it's very yellow and bland. This is the kind of restaurant that's more than really tasty Chinese take-out. In fact, it's really tasty Chinese, Japanese, Thai, AND Vietnamese take-out! The fare may not be absolutely authentic, and the word "Orient" may cause your more politically correct acquaintances to cringe, but any place that offers up your choice of four kinds of Asian cuisine is an uncommon find. Factor in the substantial serving sizes, overall quality, and bottom-barrel price points, and it becomes completely unique. My experience with Taste of Orient is entirely delivery-based, and began (like so many love affairs) the morning following a night of drunken debauchery. The craving for steamy, starchy foods was intense, but I knew I needed vitamin-packed vegetables to truly soothe my belly-beast. The answer? Vegetable Delight. Big branches of broccoli, sliced water chestnuts, crunchy baby corn, and mandolin-cut zucchini with a pretty zig-zag edge, all sauteed in a thick brown sauce that's more sweet than salty. Served with your choice of steamed or fried rice, it's balanced and filling without being bulky. But my favorite so far must be the Vegetable Lo Mein. It's an absurd amount of noodles, more than enough entree for two, so tightly packed that chopsticks don't stand a chance. Some people would disdain such a carbohydrate creation, calling it an unruly nest of soy sauce-shrouded starch, I say pass me a fork and make room for seconds. It's the best tasting Lo Mein I've ever had, a pasta so savory and salty I don't even mind that the veggies are an inconspicuous afterthought. Speaking of the best, you've gotta try the Egg-Rolls. Almost all of the appetizers are delicious, especially the crispy-creamy Crab Rangoon and assorted soups, but the Egg-Rolls are practically perfection. Savory, steamy, well-spiced fillings wrapped in a decadently flaky, crunchy crust - order extras, you WILL want seconds. I haven't explored the many Thai or Vietnamese menu options yet, but I get the impression that there isn't much room for failure. Every entree I've sampled has landed in the good-to-great zone, and the value per dollar is virtually double thanks to the epic portion sizes and leftover-friendly packaging. After being on campus for five years and now in the Clintonville/Worthington area I can honestly say that I feel this is the best cheap chinese place around. Their food is always fast and the prices are definitely comparable to your common chinese places. The reason I like ToO is because I consistently enjoy every item I order at this place. Some chinese places have okay wonton but gross general tsos, or great crab rangoon but crappy lo mein. But I have found that this place has enjoyable versions of all of my favorites. I have tried a lot of their menu but my favorites are the wonton soup, the crab rangoon, and the pad thai [ask for nonspicy]. They have huge portions which I love, and they are always timely and friendly. I feel like Columbus has a sadly small amount of Chinese places, but I would definitely recommend giving Taste of Orient a try! I wanted to also say that, I'm not exactly sure why I gave this place four stars instead of five. It might be because it's so far away from my house now so I rarely get a chance to order it. They unfortunately don't deliver to my area :( :(. Also, I mean, it is just takeout chinese, which is what it is. Needed a quick lunch before a hardware store run, and felt like Chinese. This popped up close by. It's a nice little Asian place, nothing fancy, bigger than expected, with decent food. Service was good. You order at the counter and they bring your food to the table, at least when it's slow. Several people brought stuff out or checked on me, which was nice. I had crab Rangoon to start. Pretty average, mostly cream cheese. I didn't expect much, so I wasn't disappointed. Then I had combo pad Thai (not actually on the menu, but easy enough to do.) A solid rendition, but nothing particularly amazing. Big portion, fairly tasty, plenty of meat, lots of sprouts and crushed peanuts on top. Could have used a few more veggies. Heat built as I ate, but it wasn't overwhelming. All in all, a decent place. Not on my usual routes, but I might try it again if I'm nearby. read more

Greasy beyond words, tasted nothing like Thai food. Threw away both entrees. Very disappointed in the quality and lack of preparation for the $$$$ I spent. Both entrées one was Tom Yum soup which was loaded with green pepper juice and red pepper juice and tomato juice with some bamboo shoots mixed in if anyone knows how Tom Yum soup is made. It has a citrus base. I opened it and the smell almost made me vomit Next was the pad woon sen also loaded with oil. the thing weighed about 6 pounds loaded with greasy red pepper juice and green pepper juice and bloated chicken that look like it had been sitting out in the sun with blisters for about 24 hours. I was highly disgusted if you can't make Thai food don't make Thai food.!!!!!
