This place is too small! I loved everything about this restaurant, the food, the people, the wine...love, love, loved it. Everything our table ordered was delicious. I think the salad we ordered was the best salad I've ever had. The complex flavors of the goat cheese, citrus, shaved fennel & candied peacons was unbelievable. How did they figure out how to take a simple thing like a salad to another level? It paired well with the wine. Oh and the bottles of wine were all reasonable priced. The sauce that came with the Maui onion rings was a perfect balence of tang with a kick. The smokey shallot spread that came with the pot stickers was wonderful too. The flat bread pizza with carmelized onions for a sauce/spread was a knock out. Kudos to a chef with a passion for flavor! The staff were so nice and attentive and helpful. My only fear is that this place will soon be hard to get into because its a small space with tasty food, priced reasonable and perfect wine list to accompany the menu. read more

Ok, this is officially my favorite neighborhood restaurant in Long Beach. It might be one of my favorite restaurants PERIOD! They cook everything to perfection and all has a unique twist. It's familiar yet progressive. I tried almost every dish and each was equally wonderful. The trout might be my favorite but chicken is also freakin awesomeness me. Both had perfectly moist meat with delicious crispy skin, the way it should be. They aren't trying too hard and throwing unnecessary techniques or ingredients. It's all so perfectly crafted. I'm Just Not That Into You Taste, our relationship started out well...the delicious and affordable wine as well as the tasty and interesting combinations of farm fresh foods made me lean in right from the beginning. But then something happened. You stopped respecting and appreciating me. You know I can't help it that I have celiac disease, and yet you let it get between us. Your offerings used to be approachable to someone with food allergies. I used to be able to find many delectable small plates without wheat, barley or rye. A special dinner last night was the last straw though. My husband & I were celebrating our anniversary. We shared the roasted beet salad with frisee and everything but the bagel seasoning. It was beautiful, perfectly dressed and delicious. When it came time to order entrees, I asked about the salmon and pork chop. Our waiter returned to tell us that the only entrée that I could eat was the flat iron steak. The salmon and pork chop had sauces that were not safe for me. Instead of offering a slight adjustment to make the meals work, we received word that the chef doesn't like to change the menu items. So we paid our bill and left. I'm sorry I was too big of an inconvenience after several years of dining together. I'm sorry you messed up my Anniversary. I'm sorry your chef doesn't feel like making his customers satisfied anymore. This relationship is over...I'm just not that into you anymore. We've been to many restaurants in LB, but Taste is our favorite. Chef Brad and his staff always perfectly execute every dish leaving us excited to try the next one. The concept of taste is in my opinion how a restaurant should be. Smaller portions to 'taste' while having different cuisines on the menu. There's a great wine list and the craft beer list has something for every beer lover. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The food is simply amazing. They have added a new dish - Tuna Crudites.' The taste will make you rethink your dinner order and order multiple plates. The Spring Chicken Fricassee is tender, tasty and the veggies are fresh and flavorful. Finally decided to dine at Taste-- so after a much anticipated visit of course we ordered... *Caprese Salad- there is a reason it is a hot item! I love that they used burrata instead of the typical motz. Just get it. *Albacore ceviche- fresh and just the right amount of spicy. Didn't leave too much of an impression. *Viet meatballs- Tender, juicy, flavorful the only bad thing was that I didn't order 2 plates of them. *Roasted chicken- Succulent, creamy, crisp skin but sadly lacking seasoning. Loved the roasted root veggies. Great wine selection, can't complain :) Beer selection generally stayed within the same IPA flavor fam. IPAs are popular but they need a accommodate diff tastebuds Their dessert selection was unimpressive but not a big deal, I'd still go back to try other things. The environment was nice and didn't have to wait to be seated on a Friday night, always a plus. read more

An excellent new find. We ordered a bottle of granache Which was very good. Also ordered "fries", musculin salad, cheese platter, and steak with curry sauce and pickled persimmon and a chocolate tort for dessert. Everything was excellent. I would order everything over again. What a fantastic overall experience. The best we have had in quite some time. The food was outstanding. All plates are intended to share, and they course them for you, which is nice. We had the ceviche, shishito peppers, empanadas, and Vietnamese meatballs. This was enough for two people. We ordered the coconut tartlet for dessert. All were very delicious. The beer and wine selections were great too. I understand they rotate frequently to best match changes in the menu. We ordered a bottle of Santa Barbara sauvignon blanc. We also ended our meal with a glass of port and mead. Both were outstanding, particularly the mead. They gave us a scoop of lemon thyme ice cream (chef makes them all) to pair, which really set off the mead. The service was really something special. There were two servers who worked seamlessly together. Each one knew what we'd asked the other, and we waited for nothing. I wish I could call them out by name. Really exceptional. The only negative is that parking is terrible. We drove around for a good 10 minutes trying to find a spot. But, I would not suggest anyone avoid this place for that reason. It is truly a gem and worth the extra effort. All in all, a must visit in Long Beach. read more

Taste is a new concept from the owners of Olives - wedding a wine bar (beer, too) with a restaurant, that is, good wine with more than the usual attention paid to the menu than you'll find at the average wine bar. And, OMG, have these women created something beautiful! My husband and I had several items from the menu but we didn't come near to experiencing it all. The (soft) pretzel bites, marinated carrots, and onion rings were delicious, spiced with unexpected, fresh flavors. The cheese plate and pork pâté were outstanding. Attention is paid to even the smallest of garnishes: house made jams served with the cheese, house-pickled green beans served with the pâté, etc. This all managed to fill our stomachs, but... I squeezed in the Market Berry Cobbler with Black Pepper Ice Cream and, Mon Dieu, am I glad I did! I would have stuck a fork in my husband's hand if he had tried to take a bite because it was one of the best damn things I've ever eaten - no hyperbole - THAT damn good. I can die happy now, thank you, ladies. All of that washed down with excellent choices of beer and wine, attentive and friendly service and reasonable prices (I didn't say "cheap" - but very reasonable give the quality and quantity). There is a lot more to try on the menu. Pizzas, vegetarian dishes, meat and seafood. Everything is a la carte, but the portion sizes are generous. I will be going back soon. Hopefully tonight. Wow... just... wow! Wife and I came here for our anniversary on Tuesday. And was served by Anthony. Was totally happy to let him pick the menu for us. I just picked the wine. (Wine is on the pricey side for what it is). All the dishes are small and meant for sharing. We had 5 dishes and a ganache cake at the end. I have been following this place on Instagram and the food looks amazing so I decided to take my husband their for his birthday. It was as great as it looks. He wanted to order onion rings which I would have normally boycotted the suggestion but since it was his birthday he ordered what he wanted. These were serious great!! They were fried but not greasy and the sauce that came with it had the right amount of spice to be flavor without burning. The Brussels sprouts was kinda of a dip at least in our minds and we felt it needed bread or crackers. The server must have thought we were nuts but he smiled and brought us crusty bread!! Oh yeah it was great! Also ordered the spicy sausage flatbread and again it was delicious!! Almost as good as my husband homemade version love ya babe. And then I decided to order dessert it was a birthday dinner after all. The chocolate Grenache cake with ice cream was melt in your mouth! Best little gem on Broadway. I chose this place solely based on reviews and pictures shown on yelp, and we were not disappointed (sometimes those reviews don't match). We were there on a Friday night and thank goodness we had a reservation. We saw people get turned away. The place is pretty tiny so make sure you call ahead. Every dish we ordered was delicious. Portions are small even though it's a family style dining. For a party of 5, I think we ordered 7-8 dishes including 2 desserts. Like I said every dish was beautifully presented and tasted delicious. The waiter who helped us was super friendly and helpful in choosing our wine, he even let us taste a couple before ordering our bottle. Overall, our experience was absolutely perfect and this little gem is now bookmarked in my account. Can't wait to go back! read more

My favorite restaurant in the LBC. We have been coming to Taste since the opened. Freshly prepped food, always unique and changes with what is available. Friendly staff and owners. I have never had a bad experience here and their wine dinners are exceptional. They are always willing to create a special pairing for special dietary needs. The only drawback can be parking - so take an Uber or Lyft so you can enjoy their wine / beer selection and relax! Great happy hour choices too! read more

Full Disclosure: I attend church with the Chef. This tiny wine/beer bar with shared plates (tapas style) was really good. Atmosphere was very "hipster' but not obnoxiously so. Mix in ages of customers the night we went. Boyf and I ordered the cheese plate, charcuterie plate, pork rillete, Vietnamese pork meatballs, and Mexican corn off the cob. He had a beer and the root beer while I had the Tempranillo. We had the tiramisu with Mexican-style cocoa and spices. It was well worth the price and we rolled out of there well-satiated. If you are hungry and you just got paid, there are lots of choices and you can definitely leave with a full belly. read more

This is a small plate dining experience, not the kind of place to eat if you are super hungry. But if you are looking for superb quality over quantity this is the spot. The smoky flavor in the duck with the date puree is just heaven. We also had the Chicken Liver Pate, Arugala salmon, maui onion rings, and for dessert a coconut tart with key lime ice cream. BOMB. ALL BOMB. I would just like to say I'm the only alien on this planet who doesn't like dessert. I NEVER order dessert because I don't like sweets. But we got the coconut tart and OH MY JESUS. It was one of the best things I've ever eaten. Taste might make a dessert believer out of me yet! *Prayer hands* If that wasn't enough to get you here the service was awesome. Our server Garrett was super attentive. He really took the time to talk to us about the food and he chatted with us once the restaurant was almost empty. I like places with people that cultivate a friendly neighbor atmosphere. The other server I think her name was Rachel? She was great too, checked in with us even though we weren't her table. There are a few restaurants in Long Beach that are doing a similar dining style but the food is no where close to being as good as this. Was scanning yelp for a new place close to home and the pictures of the food sold me on giving them a visit with some friends. Good choice! The reservation system through Yelp worked great, the service was very friendly and efficient. Even though the space is small we didn't feel crowded. The food was incredible. We ordered 3 entrees and 2 appetizers and then decided to finish with the flatbread. All fantastic. Apparently the menu items change frequently so we weren't able to get the lamb we were hoping for but that simply gives a reason to visit again soon. read more
