This froyo spot in Kips Bay might just be one of my new favorite spots in the city! With the abundance of new froyo shops opening up in New York, it's hard to come across by a more traditional, self-serve, and super casual spot. But, Tasti D-Lite is the perfect place if you're a fan of filling up your own cup and adding toppings to your heart's delight. While the variety in froyo here isn't huge, their topping selection is the biggest I've ever seen. They have everything that you can think of: from chocolates to granola to candies to fresh fruits to fruits covered in chocolate. Truly a froyo lovers dream. This place has SO many toppings. Price by weight seems a bit more affordable than other options in the city. When I visited, the self-serve flavors included: french vanilla, strawberry, coffee, double stuffed cookies and cream, graham crackers, honey nut cheerios, and tart. Surprisingly, the graham crackers flavor tasted the sweetest of the all, and the honey nut cheerios flavor tasted the least sweet. The froyo / soft serve itself was very soft (not like frozen yogurt thickness at all, which can have an icy texture). The froyo wasn't that cold / seemed like it would melt quickly. Still not sure exactly what the ingredients are, but the flavors weren't bad. They have so many oreo toppings and toppings in general. You use the same reusable metal spoon to get as many toppings as you want, which I was concerned about because of cross contamination (those with nut allergies should be careful). OMG... literally I have not found a fro yo place as good as this one in all my years living in Manhattan. Reasonably priced, and a huuuge selection of toppings, genuinely every treat you can imagine, and fresh fruit. Open late, and normally you can snag a little table too. I've spent a lot of time in this location of Tasti D-Lite. I worked not far from here for a couple years so I would visit them during my lunch break. Every time I go to Kipps Bay I stop in for desert. Tasti D-Lite is a New York Company started in 1987. Although the ingredients are healthier to me than ice cream it's by no means sugar free or dietetic! I rarely add a lot of toppings although they have a big variety. I love love love this place. My favorite was always German Chocolate but I love coconut, snickers and many of their 100 flavors. If you're in the neighborhood give it a try. Customer Service is hit or miss. I have no complaints. Had a late night craving for some froyo, and found this spot on yelp not too far from the Kips Bay theatre. The selection of yogurt flavors wasn't too extensive, but they had all the essentials (chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, coffee, peanut butter etc.) and it was definitely tasty. What makes this place great is the toppings. There must have been about 100 toppings here, ranging from gummies to jellies, you can make about any combo you can think of. The only reason I took off one star is because the scoopers for the toppings are organized in a bit of an unclear way, and there is the potential for some allergy cross contamination because most people do not switch off their scooper between servings. However, the froyo was great, just be cautious if you have any food allergies. read more

My friend raves about this place all the time and this is actually the first time I've been here. Drawn by the idea of low calorie fro-yo, this place is actually better than I expected. First of all, the place was really big. There were many flavors of fro yo and a very big section of toppings. They also had another wall of candy that you could buy by the pound. They had a freezer section of real ice cream and also packaged pints to take home. Would be dangerous if I lived closer and this was easier access, I would end up here a lot... The cashier was friendly enough, gave us some sample cups to try. Many different flavors, from normal tart to double stuffed oreos, salted vanilla, cake batter, chocolate raspberry, chiffon mint, and graham cracker. I had a mix of Oreo and graham cracker. The topping selection was huge, they had all different flavors of Oreos including pumpkin spice, other cookie sandwich pieces, about 4 different types of granola, and an array of candy I didn't really look entirely through. Also have a fruit topping section and syrups to put on. I basically filled my cup with mostly ice cream and a few toppings. I was pleasantly surprised that my cup came to just under $6, since I'm used to places like red mango which turn out to be far more expensive. I came to this place around 9PM since my friends were craving some ice cream. This place has a good variety--it offers frozen yogurt and an array of toppings, ice cream cakes, milkshakes and ice cream available for scooping at the register. It was interesting to me since the ice cream is also weighed by ounce and not by the scoop. I didn't want that much ice cream and asked for a "small scoop" of their cappuccino crunch. It must have been the largest "small scoop" I have seen in my life. I simply agreed to that amount and it came out close to $5. This Hershey's cappuccino crunch is probably the worst coffee-like ice cream I have ever tried. It tasted burnt! But it was my fault that I didn't sample it before but also was not expecting such a large amount of it. Since it was my bad for not trying a sample of the ice cream first and I know it was pre-packaged Hershey's ice cream, I will leave it a 3 star for their variety. I sampled the chocolate pudding and brownie batter, yet they both tasted the same and we couldn't tell which was what. I opted for the peanut butter, which had a stronger flavor to it. Pretty good, and it's only 70 calories for a small. This "lite" yogurt is what makes it hold a contest for tasti D lite lovers to try (tastihabit.com)! The other section of the store is dedicated to all types of candies-I always loved the sour belts while growing up! The owner (Ali) and the employee John recognizes and now knows me and there is no better feeling than being warmly greeted by an establishment. They offer sample cups to sample the froyo. The flavors are always changing and always a great variety. An abundance of toppings, more that you can imagine which makes this store superior to other froyo establishment in the city. Everything about this place is perfect for a self serve dessert place. Tons of toppings. And I mean tons. I got the vanilla yogurt and just piled on scoops of everything that looked good. By the end I think I had more candy than frozen yogurt. It was delicious - I think the yogurt was delicious but it didn't really matter considering it probably had a whole health bar and butterfinger in it. The owner or employee was weird. He was handing out sample cups and looked at me in the face and turned to my friend and said "her first"...he thought it was funny, it was a little rude.
