He has an incredible selection of both full and half bottles to pick from, and is very helpful if you're in search of something special but don't really know how to go about deciding. Valley Wine Merchants also has a unique wine club opportunity, that is tailored to whatever region, taste, or combination of both you desire. Don't want NW Pinot?, fine, try something delicious from Italy or France. Andrew also stays on top of the best of the best from the many small vineyards in the area and keeps you in the know related to special opportunities. Highly recommend this business!

Unprepared for the…read morerain and with a couple of hours to kill, we decided to seek shelter at VWM to check out the selection and talk to owner Andrew. When I go to a wine shop, I like to see how well organized the store is. I've been in some shops that have open cases of wine at every endcap and it feels disorganized and chaotic, not to mention it makes it very challenging to find anything. On this front, VWM has a well-organized selection and absolutely no clutter on the floors - two walls with wine, and a decent number of labels as well, and plenty of space to walk. The shop focuses on wines from Oregon, which makes sense. Perhaps 60% or more of the labels are from Oregon producers, and most of those are smaller producers that might not see a ton of distribution. There was also a decent selection of champagnes as well as a smattering of still wines from France (mostly Burgundy), Italy, etc. This is a very well-curated selection with some unique wines as well - when's the last time you've seen Beaujolais Blanc or the Saint-Amour cru from Beaujolais? And not to worry if you don't know the first thing about wine. Andrew, the owner, is incredibly knowledgable and knows all of his wines inside out. Whether you're looking for something specific or not sure what to go, you will almost certainly leave the shop with a wine you'll love and within the budget you indicated. In terms of price, you may be able to find some of the wines more cheaply than VWM's price. I looked up a few labels compared to retail prices for shops in my home state and found VWM is about 10% more expensive on average, however I'd gladly pay slightly more to receive the value-added knowledge that Andrew adds to the buying experience - details about the producer, its history, its winemaker, the site, etc. Although many of us that travel to the region are there to visit wineries and do tastings, if you're looking for an excellent shop where you can find some Oregon's best producers all in one place, VWM is definitely the place. Best part is that they can ship to most states so you don't have to worry about carrying a case (or two) of wine back on an airplane and wondering if it'll survive the journey home.

Despite showing valid…read moregovernment-issued ID proving that I'm 23, I was repeatedly questioned about my age in a way that felt more like harassment than protocol. What makes this even more frustrating is that this isn't the first time. I've been to this store many times before, and even though I always show proper ID, I'm continually met with suspicion and unnecessary questioning. Each visit feels more like an interrogation than a transaction, and today was the final straw. When I confirmed my age was 21 after being asked, I was accused of having an "attitude" and was ultimately told I was banned from the store ("86'd") without cause. There's a difference between checking ID and treating customers with suspicion and disrespect. I've never experienced anything like this at any other liquor store. I left feeling embarrassed and frustrated for simply trying to make a legal purchase. I will not be returning, and I highly recommend others think twice before giving this business their money.

There was around 5 of us waiting for the store to open. Talking about bourbon anxiously waiting for the store to open. About 2 minutes before the store was due to open an employee stuck her head out the door and yelled IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR ALLOCATED BOTTLES WE DONT HAV'EM. She then proceeded to to name off all the brands I was looking for. It wasn't the fact she informed us it was the way she informed us. Her tone and attitude was hostile and not welcoming or professional. I was planning on buying other items but her attitude made me upset. So I didn't buy anything. We also got the same old story that OLCC website takes 24 hours to update. The bottles popped on OLCC website last night around midnight. This is a lie and why OLCC and their liquor stores are corrupt. The only good thing about OLCC is they regulate pricing. If you want a good read Google OLCC. I am going to call the journalist who wrote the article to discuss the mismanagement of the liquor stores. I am so tired of OLCC liquor stores showing favoritism to bars getting special treatment and access to allocated bottles before the general public. OLCC rules state no bottles should be held or saved as a reward due to the amount of sales by any particular bar. I am guessing there are also back door deals by employees who have access to buy for themselves or for friends. This particular liquor store has been around for awhile. The atmosphere is dusty and old and also not the only liquor store in town.

And was nothing but excited to be on vacation and get a bottle of bourbon. I was in such a positive mood in fact that I complimented the employee that served me on his shirt, cause it was a Pendleton whiskey, shirt, and I had Pendleton bourbon. I was just being positive and polite and for whatever reason this guy had a power trip on me. I did nothing wrong. I wasn't aggressive. I wasn't disruptive to this workplace. I was just trying to buy myself a well earned bottle of bourbon to enjoy my vacation and this guy ruined my night. It seemed as if he was discriminating against me because I literally did nothing wrong. My ID is valid one of the new ones . I wasn't stumbling in there or not loud. All I did was smile and stick to Myself , and I got refused service for it, and when I asked for the manager, he took his glasses off and said oh I'm the manager I'm still not serving you. In fact he refused to serve me off of the one soul reason that he could just refuse service if he wanted to. I proclaimed that I was sober and that I had just drove two hours and I come here all the time when I'm in town. I've never had this problem once... this guy at the top of his lungs, made a huge scene in front of everybody and exclaimed that I exit the store immediately and he would not serve me. He didn't feel comfortable serving me he said. But wouldn't give me a logical or reasonable reason. I don't know if my positivity or good vibes rubbed him the wrong way or but this guy was horrible, and even the employee on the side was backing him up and yelling at me too to leave when I did nothing but just try to buy some alcohol and was even nice to Him at first. I regret even trying to be a nice guy to Him. In the moral of the story , I went back in the store after that because I was so upset. And I just wanted to give him some customer feedback and let him know. I would never be returning to the store and that would be writing a poor review and this guy said " good I don't give a shit all of the one star reviews on this place are about me anyways". He got really loud and aggressive, and got in my face and pretty much backed me out of the store. He also aggressively shoved the shopping carts in front of me acting like he was gonna put his hands on me or something and when I told him that I had him on camera just to make him feel or think something about himself or actions. He then goes "I don't give a fuck dumbass" after this he was staring me down like a hawk through the door. As a business owner and someone who prides himself off of customer service this left me with the most undesirable feeling of not returning I have ever gotten from any employee. Good riddance
