This is a great place if you just want to snack on some dumplings! They really don't have much for sides, but they have quite a few dumpling flavors to choose from. My favorites are the BBQ Beef and Basil Chicken dumplings! I always get them pan fried and they are always perfectly done. I have never eaten them in the store, but I have done pick up during the pandemic and I can say they travel fairly well. From picking up I can say that the store itself is very clean and the staff is friendly. I definitely recommend giving this place a shot if you enjoy dumplings! read more

Takes a long time to make. Out comes extremely food that burns your mouth. No matter how long you wait for it to cool. Everything squirts out hot liquid and causes a mess of liquid on you and your clothes. It also burns your hands. Very messy. Overpriced drinks as well. So glad to find a dumpling place nearby with good veggie options! The service is also speedy and friendly as well. I wanted to try all the veggie dumpling flavors, so I placed an order for one serving each of the tofu, kale, and kimchi dumplings (yes--I ordered way too much and had lots of leftovers). Although Yelp told me it would be 30-35 minutes, I went early just in case, and the food had just come out of the kitchen after about only 15 minutes. Each serving of dumplings came with its own set of two dipping sauces: the typical soy sauce+vinegar mixture, and a chili oil to add more heat. The dumplings were still nice and hot by the time I got back to enjoy them. All the dumplings had a nice wrapper, with a good chew and some char on the outside for more flavor and a bit of a crispy texture. Though I liked them all, the clear winner for me was the kimchi filling. Good mixture of spicy, sour, and savory flavors. I didn't verify with the employees whether the kimchi is actually vegetarian since kimchi is often made with fish sauce. This is not a major deal for me but I know it matters for some vegetarians. This was my first time eating at a dumpling restaurant in Northern Virginia. I ordered the soup dumplings and although it took a little while for them to come out from the kitchen, when they did it was worth the wait! Now I've never had soup dumplings before but these were great! The dumpling was smooth and silky and when you bit into them the soup came out and was super flavorful. Ok.....let me say that I am letting people know that the skins are thick and there is almost no soup at all. In typical XLB(soup dumplings) the skins are so thin that it's often a balancing act to put them in your spoon. That being said the skins were thick and doughy and the soup was non existent. The small amount of soup that was not absorbed by the dough was just ok. The sheng jian bao wasn't fried enough on the bottom and every single bao tore trying to get it off of the plate. We ordered 2 soup dumplings 2 pan fried dumplings(Sheng Jian bao was equally as bad). 1 pork with lotus root and 1 shrimp dumplings. Man it was 80 dollars....but I wanted to try as much as I could before judging. It was bad. The pork and lotus root might as well been pork with chives or chicken and whatever. No difference in texture at all. All in all I wish it was better but it's just so subpar that it's really just a one hitter and never to return. Words cannot describe how elated I was to discover such a great place that specialized in one of my favorite foods--dumplings! Since the restaurant had limited seating and used mainstream delivery services (DoorDash, Uber Eats), I decided to order delivery. I got the Pan-Fried Bao (which contained beef, clear noodles, and carrots) and green milk tea. Both traveled pretty well, but the milk tea spilled in the bag and caused a bit of a mess. However, I am still giving Tasty Dumpling 5 stars because both items I ordered exceeded my expectations! Don't be fooled at the $14.50 price tag for 8 dumplings; the restaurant is super generous will the stuffing, which makes for a super filling meal. Along with that, their milk tea was very refreshing--it was not too sweet and served as a palate cleanser for the dumplings. Authentic soup dumplings near my house! My wife and I are so happy this place exists. I first found it odd that I could find such good and authentic dumplings in a modern environment. I would imagine an old granny in a small village in China made these dumplings. I just hope that as more people find out about this restaurant that they are able to keep up with the demand without sacrificing quality like most little restaurants in the area do. Yo it's good. There's a loyalty card and I'll be taking advantage of it. The standard set is 12 pieces for $12.99 and you can mix and match types within the set. My boyfriend got two types of beef. He usually doesn't like dumplings but was happy with his order. They style here is to burn the bottom of the dumplings slightly (to the point that it gets black) and he's in the school of people who like that. I'm not, and that's the only reason I took a star off. I got the Pan Fried Bao (beef, glass noodles, onion, sesame) for $12. It comes in a set of 9 but they're bigger than the dumplings. They were great and I recommend mixing the spicy dumpling sauce with the hoisin sauce. The hoisin sauce is especially good if you're missing the sweetness of the dumplings. read more

Their flavor is spot-on (freakishly to the point I felt like I was eating my grandpa's homemade version). Better yet, even their fried bao was filled with soup! We ordered 3 dozen dumplings for my family as takeout this past Sunday . I wanted to do takeout and so ended up calling the restaurant to order. Based on their own website the prices were $12.99 per dozen. However when we got to the restaurant to pick up the food ,the bill was significantly higher. I didn't realize it until I got home and looked at my credit card receipt. When I called back to try and figure out what happened, they told me - "all the prices on our website are wrong." My suggestion is to either fix the website or at least tell people the price when they call. Despite the fact that it was not a lot of money, I do feel like I got ripped off by the store. Walking into the place, the first thing I noticed was the blindingly bright lights inside and sparse decor. One light was flickering for our entire time there. Definitely not a particularly pleasant place to dine. Seems like they were trying to emphasize being a take out place, but there were a lot of tables available for use of you just wanted to come for a quick bite. The good - pot stickers were good. We tried pork and cabbage, basil chicken and lemon grass chicken. These were interesting combination of flavors. They were also tasty. You place order at the counter, get your own water, napkins, chopsticks and sauce. The food is brought to the table. You clear the table after you finish eating. You have to decide on the amount of tips before you even sit down. Other than the steamers, the plates and utensils were ALL disposable. Disposable soup spoons were too small to use for eating soup dumplings. With the price they charge for dumplings, it really should be a full service restaurant. The terrible - My children love soup dumplings and they are not very picky about them. They are happy with the frozen soup dumplings we get at Asian grocery stores. They are also happy with the soup dumplings from Ding Tai Fung (Ding Tai Fung is known internationally for its beautiful and delicious soup dumplings. It is a full service classy restaurant chain). I often joked and said that there were no bad soup dumplings in their opinion. Well, they finally experienced their first bad soup dumplings. The skin was thick and doughy. The liner they used in the steamer had dish washing soap smell. All the soup dumplings had the soap taste. These soup dumplings are expensive. When I saw the menu, I thought they were pricey. After I left the restaurant, I looked up Ding Tai Fung's menu for their Seattle location. Ding Tai Fung's soup dumplings are $13.50 for 10 pieces ($1.35 per piece). Tasty Dumpling charges $12 for 8 pieces ($1.50 per piece). While the price point in restaurants are determined by many factors, I think it's fair to say Tasty Dumpling's soup dumplings are way overpriced. I may have developed a slight dumpling addiction since the last review. Oh my goodness, I LOVE this place. While I remain so grateful for the meticulously clean interior, fabulous staff, and safety measures, I'll focus on the delicious things that come from the kitchen. First, I can't get out of there now without buying mango smoothies for my nieces and nephews--they're hooked. (I don't like mango in any format, so can't weigh in). I think the tofu and kimchi dumplings are my all-time favorites--and I prefer steamed to really taste all the flavors--but I haven't encountered a dumpling that isn't fresh and delicious and I've had every single option. I've shared with many friends and family and pork/shrimp/chive, kale, and beef basil get universal love. We all agree that the beef bao are amazing. Perfectly balanced. I had no clue what a chocolate soup dumpling was-- it's dessert!! Lovely, smooth chocolate filled dumplings! Never seen that before and recommend. I've ordered an embarrassing number of times by now (definitely high double digits) and never a mistake, never a bad experience, always delightful. The restaurant has some variety in their dumplings. We ordered four different styles - beef, pork and shrimp, pork and napa cabbage and chicken. We went had traditional and other new ones. It looks quiet yummy, but lacked flavor. Couldn't taste the chives, shrimp, or ginger. The sauce provided was highly concentrated on the oil and vinegar and needed more soy sauce.
