Yesterday was my first time trying this place with my boyfriend & we went here for lunch and came back for dinner because we loved the workers & the food so much. To start off, the restaurant is really clean. The old Chinese lady cleans down the chairs and tables thoroughly with cleaning supplies immediately after customers leave. They also gave us bottled waters / disposable utensils which I really liked because it was sanitary. I ordered preserved egg porridge & my bf ordered shrimp dumplings and beef daikon clay pot for lunch. The beef was fall off the bone soft & it was honestly really good. I thought the porridge was slightly bland, but given that I had canker sores I liked that anyway (and note that I decided to take out the salty pork from my porridge, which may have given it more flavor.) For dinner we had the BBQ pork buns, west lake soup, and my bf had Mapo tofu. Again, I really enjoyed all these dishes and would definitely come back to try other items on their menu that looked really good on Yelp. One of the better Chinese restaurants around if you're looking for general Tso, orange, sweet N sour chicken, etc. Really good customer service also. The lady who runs it is always fun to talk too. Kind of in a tough location in my opinion. Not many other food places around that area. You have to specifically go into the complex looking for the restaurant to find it. Loved this restaurant! Felt like I was in a mom and pop place that I used to go to when I was growing up. Maggie was so welcoming, and really enthusiastic about the food and restaurant. I saw the pictures of the food on yelp, and knew I wanted to try the Singapore rice noodles, but also wanted to try the curry beef. I ended up getting the curry beef over rice and ordered the noodles to go! Both were delicious. Came here last week to celebrate the Lunar New Year. There was no one else inside so we were the only customers. The two staff who worked there were so nice, they were excellent to me and my family so that was great. We shared a bunch of plates of food, so I'll talk about all of them. The cream cheese crab rangoons were absolutely delicious, they really tasted like crab meat. The sesame chicken was very nice as well. The Mongolian beef had just the right spice to it. We were trying to get lunch from another Chinese place in Davis, but they were closed for Super Bowl Sunday, so we found ourselves at Tasty Gourmet. When we first arrived, we weren't so sure about the service. It seemed we were being ignored, but then we realized there are only a couple people working and they were running around trying to keep everyone happy. The woman who helped us is very friendly. She is a very touchy-feely kind of person, but it was not bothersome (sometimes that does bother me). She was running around by herself, taking orders and serving people and taking phone calls - doing it all. She also brought out cold bottles of water, much nicer than tap water. The food came out really quick after we ordered. I had egg rolls (they're vegan and there's 2 per order). They were really good, perfectly crispy and they tasted great. I also had the mixed vegetable entree and steamed rice. Both were good. My husband had the steamed BBQ pork buns, curry chicken, combination chow mein, and steamed rice. He said it was really good. I think this may be the only place in Davis that has porridge with century egg and that to me is straight up Chinese comfort food. I've had this dish at so many restaurants in LA Chinatown, San Gabriel, Monterey Park...I think it is perfection here. My son lives in Davis and suggested this restaurant for Chinese food. The lady (Maggie?) who greeted us was a one-woman show . . . waitressing, being the cashier, answering the phone, taking to-go orders, bussing tables, staying friendly the whole time. We started ordering three dishes (in Cantonese), but Maggie stopped us at two and said that was enough for the two of us. I've never had a waitress do that before. Stopped into this place on the way back from Sacramento with my wife and kids. It was an amazing experience. The food is really delicious. We ordered beef chow fun, honey walnut prawns, cashew chicken, and garlic pork. All the selections were great! Seasoned well, and generous portions. What really sets this place apart from other places is the service. I can honestly say, these were the nicest people. The food in this place is so good! We walked in during downtime and the owners were extremely nice to is. They personally showed us the food dishes we ordered to make sure it was good and it all smelled wonderful. They gave is free tea and they made us feel very at home. The place was so cute and quaint, I will be going back for sure! Especially to try their signature roasted duck. The food was delicious too! The fish curry clay pot was pleasantly spiced and it was so light and tender. It's fairly clean and you can smell the delicious aroma of Chinese food cooking in their kitchen. Made me more excited to order and eat. The food: We actually came for the Shumai and Shrimp Dumpling. Most times it's hard to find an authentically delicious Dim-sum in the area so we want to try and see if we hit the jackpot. Lo and behold, these Dim-sum are authentically delicious, yummy and filling. Rebecca actually warned us that 6-Dim-sum is more than enough. Boy, she was right! But hey, we're already there, might as well try my favorite soup and see how they fare. We got the Hot and Sour Soup-and on the first slurp, my eyes widened...the Best one I've ever had. Boyfriend and I came in around 4:30 and it was pretty quiet, owner was so warm and friendly greeting us and making sure we had everything we needed. She definitely knows what she's doing and she treats her customers and staff well (I was able to talk to her Cantonese too, a plus!). We got bbq pork chow mein, which came out hot and steaming. It was delicious and the plate was piled high. We also got some dim sum, which I was surprised was an option so late in the day. I'm not complaining though! This is the most legit dim sum in Davis- everything was absolutely perfect! I'm not a huge fan of having lettuce on the bottom, but that's just a personal preference. If you're looking for a REALLY good Chinese spot this is it. I came here with my boyfriend and after trying a couple of places in Davis we didn't have very high expectations. We ordered wonton soup, bbq pork fried rice, combination pan fried noodle and sesame chicken. We placed our order and it was out within 10 min but you could tell everything had been freshly made. The staff were super nice and it was in a quiet neighborhood. If anyone who has dined at Four Seasons before 2016, then you'll know who Maggie is. She was the former owner of Four Seasons who retired, but then unretired to open Tasty Gourmet. She's still just as friendly and accommodating as she was before, but now she has an actual place where you can sit and dine (whenever Yolo county allows dine in's) and are not behind a gas station. The food is just as delicious as I remember it to be. I usually get the curry brisket, but we recently tried the broccoli beef over rice and the beef chow fun. All came out piping hot and full of flavor. And also, you gotta try their cream cheese won ton. Whereas a lot of other restaurants don't really have too much cream cheese filling inside, but here, I can definitely tell they put a lot into the won tons. Also, the sesame balls are a must try.
