(not so) Tasty Palace This was our first visit here and came for dinner. The restaurant looked decent and modern and had halfway full of customers that evening. We walked in and there was no host/hostess but we were greeted immediately and given a table. The menus were already at the tables. We looked through the menu and decided on their combos. Tic-toc... now waiting for our server to get our orders. After a few more minutes of waiting we were able to flag someone. When the food came the first thing I noticed were the big portions. I got the Salt & Pepper Pork w/ fried rice (I asked if I could substitute from the chow mein and they did). Secondly, the "pork" did not look like pork. It looked manufactured. Throw in a different sauce on top and it'll be like sweet and sour pork. Salt & Pepper is my favorite so I order it at other Chinese restaurants and I know how the meal was supposed to look. This presentation was 'different'. After having a few bites the pork did not only taste like pork but it was tasteless!! It was supposed to be full of flavor with "salt and pepper." There were lots of pieces of pepper garnished on top but the meal was bland. Hubby's Teriyaki chicken over steamed rice was swimming with teriyaki sauce. The service was slow and the food was disappointing. The photos on the menu looked good but it was flavorless... and they spelled "lunch" wrong (see photo on the menu). Delicious food. The serving is plentiful! I always order more than what I need so that it will last for at least the next day and they give more than enough for that game plan. I ordered the salt and pepper garlic fries, and the hot and spicy chicken with chicken chow mein. The dumplings came with a delicious soy sauce;flavor was much more striking than regular soy sauce. SO good! The service was fast - my take out order took about 10 min to complete. I didn't eat inside but the place was clean and the ambiance was peaceful and beautiful. They were Very rude! We asked for spicy oil ( a condiment) they said it cost extra. We paid over 100$ for take out for 4 people. When the food arrived there were NO CONDIMENTS. No fortune cookies . Not even soy sauce. Missing a whole plate and the food we got is very poor quality. When I called back to ask what happened they said they don't give soy sauce and can't do anything about the food. . Decided to have lunch here with a friend since i am new to the area. The place was dead in the afternoon. Our order was taken somewhat quickly & food was delivered in under 10 minutes. The lunch specials are served with white or fried rice or chow mein. They are come with an eggroll....but it actually was a vegetable spring roll. I got the generals chicken with chow mein. I came by after work when I read some of the Yelp reviews about how great the food is here. Although I had lunch over an hour before, I had just enough room in my tummy for some Chinese food. Lunch is served until three pm M-F and I had about fifteen minutes to spare to get myself a lunch special. The menu is easy to read with lots of pictures so you get that bit of visual. I ordered the salt and pepper chicken with chow mein. At $6.95, the salt and pepper chicken comes with your choice of chow mein or steamed or fried rice. The food came out rather quickly and at first bite, I was in "LOVE!"The chicken was fried and seasoned to perfection! The chow mein was excellent, as well. The egg roll was mediocre. I was so impressed with the food that I ordered food to go. I ordered the chicken chow mein, veggie fried rice and salt and pepper wings. Much to my disappointment, the salt and pepper wings were a bit under cooked, there was some pink in some of the wings and after a few bites and noticing, my kids lost their appetite. I would say that the salt and pepper chicken, not the wings, is a far better choice IMO. The veggie fried rice had a ton of veggies, including green beans, mushrooms, broccoli, carrots, onions and green onions. This place is quite busy with lots of patrons coming and going with takeout orders. With the fast, friendly service and delicious, Americanized Chinese food, it's a no-brainer, why it's so popular. I must say that the Salt & Pepper Chicken was pretty amazing. Battered chicken, fried, and then stirfried with peppers. The 3 other dishes were great as well, but I spent most of dinner chowing down the Salt & Pepper Chicken. I was in the area visiting my grandma and she wanted some chinese food. Of course I went all out and ordered too many items from the menu. I'm pretty sure that the 4 dishes would have fed a family of 6 or 7....no doubt about it. When i walked in to place the order, the lady was very friendly. She greeted me and asked how she could help. I have to say the decorating team did a fantastic job of turning this place into an attractive modern venue. The tables, seats, booths, lighting and beautiful ceiling make the place nice to be in. We tried the following items: Salt and Pepper Green Beans $7.50: a good portion of fresh green beans slightly spicy and tasty. These beans are NOT deep fried like most salt and pepper dishes. Salt and Pepper Pork $8.50: deep fried slices of pork loin or pork chops coated in crispy tempura batter and seasoned with salt and peppers. The pork was tender but the cook added too much salt :( Honk Kong Style Chow Mein $9.95?: crispy pan fried noodles served with pork, shrimp and various veggies. The dish was good but nothing special. Scrambled eggs and shrimp $11.95: this was my favorite dish a big portions of softly scrambled eggs and plump juicy shrimp. Just add some soy sauce, white pepper and eat it over rice YUM, just like mom used to make :) The service was fast and friendly even though it was slightly busy and there were only two servers. I will start off by saying that the food portion size and flavor profile for the combination plate was good. However, I found 3 hairs in my single plate of food. I called to report the complaint and asked if the chef's wore hair nets, I was told they do not. I was asked to come in for a replacement meal, but after finding multiple hairs especially one in your mouth while eating is nauseating. I was offered a refund, but told that the person working (the owner) did not know how to process a refund. I believe this to be a way to avoid paying a refund, because as I notified the staff I lived more than 25 mins away. Inside the restaurant is beautiful. Beautiful tables, floors, and the ceiling too. The food was good. We had a sesame chicken combo, sweet and sour pork combo, Singapore noodles, pork buns, BBQ pork fried rice, and cream cheese wontons were all tasty. Everything was delicious. We settled on a place to get tires (Walmart). we had some time so we decide to get something to eat and headed towards Tasty Palace. Upon our arrival we sat down and ask for menus. As we sat down we were told for dining in they would be adding a 10% surcharge addition to our order. We thought about for a few minutes and decided to walk out and never return. Family member was sick on Christmas day so I was looking for somewhere that was open for dinner and I had heard good things from others about Tasty Palace. However the online ordering system they use did not give an accurate time, I drove over there within the 20 minute window the online ordering gave and was informed when I arrived that it would be over an hour till the food was ready. This was an order of basically just two combination plates so nothing extravigant. Might try in the future if I am able to dine in but I wouldn't rely on the online ordering system.. read more
