They do allow you to leave things out but not substitute. We went down the middle with 2 pots and two of us went grill which was playing safe. This restaurant got packed fast at 6pm. There's a lot of flavors here, my son (18) is adventurous and got a pot with Ramen and did great with it. He didn't eat things he wasn't sure about but liked it overall. Finally got to try Tasty Pot because I was excited for any type of hotpot style restaurant in town! We came in on a Friday around 3:30pm and they was only one other group there. Parking was not a problem at the time, but being in midtown there is limited parking during certain times of the week and day. We were quickly greeted when entering and seated. The waiter got our drinks and gave us menus. The hot pot soups ranged from $19-25, a few appetizers to choose from and a selection of drinks/boba. For the hot pot soups, you can choose the flavor, level of spicy, and a side of rice or vermicelli. We choose rice for both soups. Each table has a set of 4 sauces that you can mix. We ordered the following: - Japanese Miso Hot Soup: came with a great variety of meats, veggies, and a raw egg that I mixed in with everything. The soup is flavorful and delicious. Everything was good as is, but I dipped them in the sauces for extra flavor. - Sichuan Flavor Hot Soup: spicier than expected, but still good. Came with a good amount of veggies and meat - Iced Green Tea: this was complimentary. This green tea was very good! It was sweet, but not overly sweetened. Very good and super quick service. The boba I got (strawberry matcha with popping mango boba) was super delicious and they give you a punch card for their milk teas! The beef hot pot was good, paired it with udon, got medium heat and wasn't spicy at all. There may be too much going on in the hot pot, the current dish ware that they use is a bit messy and it was leaking on both of our dishes. The flavor was good but nothing amazing. The staff walks around with hot broth to fill up your hot pot as you make your way through the many ingredients. Each hot pot is about $20 or more. I order the same thing each time I come here and each time I am happy with my choice. I get popcorn chicken for my appetizer and a beef sizzling plate for my dinner. I like "cooking" my own dish. Tasty Pot is a hot-pot restaurant, where you order your own hot pot from their menu and choose which meat or broth you want. Their menu has selection has a lot of variety, from spicy to not spicy options, it provides a great deal of option depending on what you're feeling that day. They also have appetizers, which I highly recommend sharing as their portion sizes are pretty big. Tasty pot also has dipping sauces and chili oil to put your meat or vegetables from the hot pot for extra flavor. Service was okay, although the staff has gotten our orders mixed up multiple times, they were attentive and knowledgeable. The restaurant isn't too big, but it is big enough to accommodate a large party. A major critique I have is that the restrooms were pretty dirty and could have been maintained better. A little bummed with the overall experience here. I was so excited to finally try Tasty Pot. I tried to make online reservations to hold a table for our party, but received a message via text that it wasn't possible. After fighting for parking in Midtown to get here, we were quoted a 30 minute wait. The host at the door took our name down, but then we watched them seat others before us and a party that was there even before us was still standing waiting beside us. That's not cool, but I'm the most patient patron. I've been on the other side, so I know I'm not being unreasonable. Every table was sat and there was bar seating facing out where we waited. I would have happily ate there if they offered service there. After about 45 minutes they realized we weren't just sitting there off to the side for fun. It did take away from the experience. We ordered the basil chicken and their takoyaki (octupus balls) appetizer. A seafood lobster soup that was missing spice #12 and the #11 Sichuan hot soup was too spicy and was supposed to be a medium heat. My lobster soup was supposed to have vermicelli and it didn't really have any in it. I ordered rice on the side and I would have ordered noodles if I knew I wouldn't have any vermicelli although it's on the menu. Everything else was great. We ordered boba to try a few: a brown sugar milk tea and a Taro milk tea with boba I'm a sucker for an avocado smoothie and glad I asked for no condensed milk. We ordered the milk teas with 25% sweetness and love we have the option to do so. I hope in the near future when we come back that we have a better experience. We've been meaning to come try this place for dinner ever since sampling it at the big Yelp Food Crawl a few months ago. My husband and I finally made it in last night! We made a reservation through Yelp which was really nice. We got there and only 2-3 tables were filled, so a reservation was not needed anyway. We were seated promptly and they even let us turn on the Monday night NFL game on their big TV. This was our first time here, so I had some questions about how the hot pot works and our waitress explained everything very well. Everything comes out in one dish, all of the meat is already cooked. You do not get additional things to add to the pot, it is just served in a big pot over a flame so that it stays quite hot while you eat (you can turn the flame off whenever you want). The bowls already come with noodles or rice in them but you also get to choose a side of noodles or rice to go with your hot pot. You get to choose your spice level as well. If you're not feeling the hot pot, they also have appetizers and hibachi plates! I went with the Beef Hot Soup with a medium spicy level. It was only $19 but came with a ton of food! It was very hot when it was first served, be careful or it'll burn your mouth. There were tons of toppings and meat that came with it. I was surprised to see how few noodles were in my soup, I guess that's why they give you more on the side. Since my hot pot was listed as already coming with noodles, I got a side of rice. Next time, I'd probably get more noodles on the side so I could add them to my soup. It was nice that the soup stays hot the whole time you eat it but I did end up turning off the flame about halfway through. The broth was yummy without tasting overly salty. My husband got the Sichuan Flavor Hot Soup with medium spice, his broth was quite spicy because it had lots of red pepper slices in it! His is considered a "large bowl" so it's a little more expensive at $24. We both finished all of our soup and were so full afterwards. It was a great meal to have on a cooler fall day! Service was good, we had people come by frequently to fill up our waters which was needed with this spicy food. The food came out pretty fast, I'd say it only took about 20 mins or so. They even brought out our bill before we finished eating but told us not to rush to pay, it was just for whenever we were ready; I prefer when places do this as opposed to us waiting around for it after the meal. We had a great experience here and I'm so glad we came! They have a lot of fun bubble teas on their menu that I'll have to try next time, plus I want to mix it up and order a different hot pot to try out some other flavors. I did have a few negatives though, for $5 I thought i'd get an oolong tea kettle how they usually do it at chinese dim sum or korean hot pot. but instead i got this luke warm tea inside of a to go cup, which was a little bizarre. definitely not worth $5 whatsoever. In the hotpot there was also this soft white stuff similar to the texture of tofu but was not tofu, and it tasted absolutely foul. i'm not sure what it is, i assumed pork blood rice cake from the menu but usually that's a darker color. overall though it tasted absolutely horrible and I had to take it out. other than that the toppings were typical and delicious. service here was nice and fast, they'll help explain the menu if you need as well. ambiance is chill, when i first arrived a couple was wrapping up their meal while doing work. overall pretty quiet and relaxed environment to enjoy a meal. read more

Finally a legit hot pot place in Reno! My friends and I were so hyped to hear about getting a Tasty Pot here in town. It awesome to see more diverse food places coming about in Reno. Since my friend and I went within the first month of them opening, it was pretty busy. We came on a Saturday night and since it was just the two of us it was about a 15 minute wait. We saw that larger parties ahead of us were seated later though but that's probably because they had more people. The space is quite roomy, room was filled with a bunch of tables and chairs which is good because I can tell this place would get popping during busy meal hours. First impression of the customer service is that all the workers were incredibly nice and helpful! We felt very welcomed throughout our visit and they were able to answer any questions we had about the menu. I ended up ordering the Cheesy Milk Hot Soup (tomato broth). It was good but I wished there was a bigger portion of meat with the meal considering the price of the meal. The portion of meat was pretty small for a $20 bowl of soup. I also ordered a thai tea and it was pretty watered down which was disappointing. Parking can be a pain since it is in the middle of midtown. There is a small sliver of a parking lot that is shared with other restaurant around but there is also street parking. Overall, the food/drinks itself could have been better. I had to ask multiple times for drink refills from different staff, as our server never checked up on us. The soups we had were good. Good broth and plenty of ingredients in the soups. Beware, the soup is hot! The soup's temperature remains super hot during the whole meal, whether good or bad, depending on how you like your soup served. In addition, there are different "hot" levels in terms of spiciness. Tasty Pot in Reno?!? UUUHHHH YESSSSS. Reno is starting to feel more like home now that we're getting some Bay Area restaurants here (first Nick The Greek and now Tasty Pot). My go-to order is curry hot pot with Thai broth. You can never go wrong with that tom yum yummy broth. That sour, slightly sweet, and spicy soup. Ughh, delicious. Fried calamari was good too! My husband and the kids got the beef sizzling plate which I thought was ok. Wasn't used to the thick takoyaki sauce they provided but it wasn't bad either. The beef sizzling plate also came with a choice of black or green tea. If you go during lunch, the choice of tea is also included, just not during dinner. It was absolutely LOADED with goodies. My husband got the sichuan hot pot. Don't get this unless you like spicy! We asked for mild but it was so spicy he was sweating and could barely eat it. (Our bad!) We asked if we could switch it out, and honestly we were embarrassed. I don't like sending ANYTHING back. They were so polite and gracious. I am so thrilled that Tasty Pot made its way to Reno! Finally! Today was a Soft Opening and let me tell ya, so glad we got the news being passed down to us. Tasty Pot has been a spot in Bay Area for when my husband and I go visit his family. When we need to get our hotpot fix, Tasty Pot is one of the joints that we go to especially this one is based to be your own self pot rather than the big pot share-throw ins I call it. Who knew individuals taste so much better!? Before you add any add ons, I advise you that you come in with a very empty stomach. I was hungry and ordered an add on of beef slices and semi could not finish as in clear my pot. I had also added instant noodles and I was able to finish that but the pot already comes with vermicelli. And I also couldn't finish the rest of my vegetables. So if you're not too hungry, it's also a good portion for two (what my husband and I will do next time unless we're both starving). I ordered the Cheesy Milk Hot Soup because I actually never tried this one in CA ( I usually get the beef) and it was not bad. The literal worst. This place is a danger to anyone with food allergies. I don't take giving a poor review lightly (I don't think I've ever actually given one star,) but this really needs to be addressed. One of our party was allergic to shellfish, and we told our server that, first thing. She didn't seem to understand, but she made notes on what needed to come out of the hot pot-basically all the fish things. When we got our dishes, our friend noticed that there was still imitation crab (sometimes contains shrimp so she doesn't chance it), as well as clams! We called our server over and the manager (we think), he apologized and said they'd remake it. The second bowl came out, and looked okay, so she started eating it AND THEN SHE FOUND MORE CLAMS. Friend took Benadryl right away, and was okay, but this is literally a mistake that could kill someone, and they did it TWICE. No one we interacted with seemed to understand the menu, or whether modifications were possible. Our server definitely had a language barrier, which is dangerous in a restaurant with so many potential allergens. Soup requested mild came out layered in chili oil, and was far spicier than desired. Sauces at the table are completely mis-labeled. A tiny saucer plate of sweet potato fries was $6.50. And the hibachi plate with steak, shrimp, and vegetables was tiny, and cost $31. Restaurant had no ambiance. Dinner for three people (they did remove the charge for the soup they could not make properly) still cost $100 for three people-no alcohol, one boba, and two appetizers. I was very excited to try Tasty Pot because I LOVE hot pot and used to eat it at home all the time. I like the concept of being able to get your own pot so everyone at the table can keep track of their toppings and get whatever bases they want. But I do miss the action of cooking the food and getting all your stuff to put into it. This way feels less communal for sure. Overall they have so many options to choose from and that makes it really hard to decide but I settled on the kimchi soup base because it came with the most toppings I was interested in. The soup came out sizzling hot and the presentation was wonderful. I do think I should have gotten the soup a bit spicier though because it lacked a little flavor for me. They also have really good boba tea drinks, I enjoyed a lavender one and I've tried their strawberry before and it's really good. The staff was friendly and since it was our first time, we got a run down of the menu and how it works. You essentially choose your pot, the spice level, and then noodles or rice and then you're good to go. For starters, we had the calamari. It was quite dry but it had good flavor. For our mains, I tried the kimchi soup, my husband tried the lamb and my father got the seafood. The soups come piping hot in a contraption that allows you to adjust the heat source. It's nice because the broth stays hot the entire time and the broth is bottomless. On the table they have several seasonings and sauces to choose from ranging in flavor and spice. The soups were heaping with ingredients and super tasty and savory! For dessert, I tried a matcha rose boba tea. It was delicious and the perfect sweetness! This was a fun place to check out for the first time. Personally, I would not go back but am glad i tried it! Service: The severs seemed a little... scattered. This place might be so new were they are still trying to figure things out but they delivered us different tables food and drinks 3 different times. When we first sat down, a server was already bringing food to our table and we had to tell them we haven't even ordered yet. When I did order a drink, they took awhile to bring it out and also brought the wrong drink... they had to take back and bring the correct one. They were al apologetic and kind but seemed very chaotic for any empty restaurant (there were only 3 other tables with people there when we were there). Food: I ordered the Stinky Tofu and was unfortunately not impressed. There was one piece of tofu and was confused about a lot of stuff that was inside of it. I ended up picking a lot out of it as it was not tasty. the soup part was also very oily. I picked the spiciest option and it was not spicy at all. A tasty pot, indeed! This was our first time trying hot pot and it did not disappoint. I got the original cheesy milk pot and though it may sound strange, I highly recommend it. The broth was bursting with flavor. It also contains all kinds of ingredients from sausage, to quail eggs, to beef and they bring out rice that you can eat some of these with if you prefer. There's an insane amount of food. For $20, I easily got 2 full meals out of it. My boyfriend was much more nervous to try it and he ended up liking everything that came with his beef pot as well. The waitress was so sweet, she gave me extra broth to take home and even packaged my leftovers in the takeaway container for me! She also let me know that you can request to have your pot turned down if it's too hot which is good to know. Despite it being busy, it was an easygoing environment.
