I have loved this restaurant for years. Today, something seemed off. It took about 20 minutes for out order to be taken, waited another 40 minutes for our food, and then our food was cold. Great place to eat. Food takes a while, but that's seems to be the norm nowadays. My wife got the Belgian waffle with strawberries. The strawberries were fresh, however, the waffle was not hot and crispy on the outside. I got the Tater's Bowl. It was hot and tasty. There was plenty to share. Tater tots, scrambled eggs and sausage gravy with onions on top of a nice big and fluffy biscuit. Friendly service, I do think we will be back. read more

I realize Tater's Cafe is popular within the local community and has received many good reviews but my last visit to the restaurant for breakfast has left me disappointed. The service is friendly, and they really do their best to accommodate their customers, but I'm not impressed by the food. The hash browns are oily, dence and starchy and their German sausage tastes primarily of salt. Not being happy with my meal, I sent it back. The kitchen remade my plate quickly but for the most part I received the same oily mess back. That being said I'll return to see if lunch is any better but I'm afraid their breakfast for me is a no-go. read more

I hit this place up about 1:00 on a weekday and it wasn't crowded at all. On a return visit, it was harder to find a parking space. There seems to be no A/C, and on a hot day it's unpleasant inside, and the acoustics are grating. Waitress was civil but distant; didn't ask how I liked my meal, didn't offer to refill my $2.95 fountain drink. I think it's the phenomenon I've mentioned before, where small townies treat locals and regulars differently. The menu looks inventive on paper and there are senior portions. Maybe I've chosen unwisely, but the dishes don't impress. Biscuits and gravy the most utterly ordinary of all my diners. Seems like a tossup between this place and the Courtyard Cafe for a conventional diner outing in Dallas---my visit to the Blue Garden was an unacceptable experience. read more

Me and my dad stopped here for a quick lunch around 11 (we beat the lunch rush). My dad ordered the Veggie omelette with rye toast and thought it was really good/large. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich (no cheese or bacon) with a side of curly fries. Everything was yummy and the ranch was great! Service was a little slow but I believe I overheard the waitress saying they had a no call/no show that day. Atmosphere was good, we sat outside. Three words; loaded potato cakes. Service is sometimes slow and scattered here, but the results are worth it. Not a lot of eateries in general in Dallas, but Tater's is always consistent and reliably good. Also, my mom is generally picky about her biscuits and (especially) gravy. This place could be so great. Staff need a little training on how to serve a customer, how to prioritize, and how to hustle a bit when they are busy. We used to go there a lot, but they are defiantly short on help, so we haven't been in awhile. I keep asking others if they have improved. They have pretty good food. Nice people. Food was so-so. Took too long. Very busy when we walked in but we were greeted immediately by several different people and they cleared a table quickly for us to sit. Wait staff took our order promptly. And then we waited. Took about 30 minutes to get our food. Seemed like the kitchen was backed up. No check in from staff during our wait for food (except quick water refill). Then when we finished it took forever to get our bill - we were sitting and waiting. My husband left to walk our dog. The restaurant was almost empty and staff were talking while they worked around the corner but no one came near our table. read more
