This shop will always be "Burger Time" to me but I wanted to get to the 21st century & finally give "Taurinos" a try. We were quickly seated, my son ordered a puffy taco, which was 4.5/5, salsitas were firme, tortillas were fresh, & the rice and beans were made w/ some cariño. I'd heard that their chicken molè was good pero oh no, no me gusta. They were barely room temp & too sweet for me. It took about 20 min to get the waitress back over to check out, so that's no fun. Amazing food. Some of the best been and cheese breakfast tacos. My mom swears by their Chicharron and salsa breakfast taco. I also love their cheese enchiladas plate. Yum! They sell Big Red in a can and you can ask for a cup of ice to make it perfect. Service is always so friendly. Horrible costumer service I went with my family and sat down for 10 minutes without one waiter coming to our table and we can clearly see all 3 waiters just talking and making eye contact with us and still no response they didn't ask us if we need anything until we got up and started walking to the door. OMG I have died and gone to heaven. Saturday morning and this place was packed with tables of 3 generation families, and there was a long drive-thru line that wrapped all around the building. This place is their second location, at the corner of Callahan and Culebra. My waitress, Nancy, made me feel so welcome and recommended the Chicken Monterrey plate which had a brown sauce that turned out to be wow, simply wow. It is difficult to stand out in San Antonio as a small casual Mexican restaurant, but Taurinos does just that. I have been going there for almost 20 years now and am so impressed. Firstly, the food is excellent. I think they have my favorite tortillas in the city, everything is always done perfectly, and I LOVE their tortilla soup (best in town). Perhaps even more importantly, they do all the little things right. They buss tables promptly and keep the restaurant immaculate. It is no wonder that they always have a perfect score from the health department. Then the service is always exceptional. They take your order right away and get food out quickly and always keep your drink full. In short, they are firing on all cylinders. I highly recommend this place. read more

I'm happy to say that Taurinos does that with their good ole fashion home style approach to their customers. As soon as you walk in, you're treated like family. The staff make you feel so warm & welcome before your even order, you feel like your eating at your family home. I got to try the Fideo which was phenomenal, the Chili Com Carne, Pollo Con Calabacita, and the fish tacos! Everything was freaking delicious! The barbacoa Taco was decent, but the chorizo didn't have any flavor and felt powdery in my mouth. I couldn't even eat it. I've heard if this place and was in the are so I decided to give it a go! Best decision of week by far! This place is a great spot for quality and delicious Tex-Mex food. Being a flour tortilla snob I approve of the in-house made flour tortillas at Taurinos as well as the other dishes I had. I let my eyes get the best of me again and ordered way too much food but it did not disappoint. The menudo was well seasoned and a great portion. I also added a couple of tacos to my meal.. carne guisada w/cheese and bacon egg and cheese(breakfast served all day). GREAT flavor!! Delicious!!!! Overall price was reasonable too and the staff was beyond helpful and considerate. They did an excellent job and made me feel welcomed. The only warning I have for future patrons is to first do as I say not as I did... basically don't let your eyes be hungrier that your stomach! Lol And second be patient and let your food cool down... being freshly made to order, comes with very hot temperatures so let your order cool off a bit. Other than that, I plan to make Taurino's a regular stop on my next visit to this side of town! Give them a "GO" when your near Callaghan and Culebra. Enjoy! read more

I honestly cannot think of one complaint that I had with this Taurinos It wasn't the very best Tex-Mex or Mexican that I've ever had here in town, but it was definitely above the bar in terms of this Mexican / Tex-Mex cuisine. If you notice my lunch was a very nice sized sirloin (tampiqueña) with a chicken enchilada in green sauce, rice beans and tortillas it was good enough to stuff myself to my regret, as I had to return to work shortly thereafter. I love the original one best, and the pics I'm posting is from that location. The only negative thing I have to say about this place is that I hate how busy it always is. With that being said, their service never lacks and is always fast. I'm not a lunch special type of guy, but decided to get both visits bc I was so indecisive. The spicy fideo was on motha fuggin point and pretty spicy! I think the day I ordered to go was steak a la Mexicana or something along those lines. Stopped by this place during lunch one day and everything was fantastic! The various salsas they gave with the chips were so flavorful and good. I ordered the chipotle chicken which was delicious. The chicken was thin and had a good creamy sauce and cheese. All my coworkers plates looked great as well. Glad we got to stop by and check this place out! read more

They have good food. But I hate the fact that they give you the receipt with a pen (for tips) when going through the drive thru. There's even a sign on the to go window that says "thank you for your tip". Drive thru's shouldn't ask you for a tip! Or make you feel like you have to leave one. We have drive by many times and this place is packed. I don't understand the hype. I ordered the mini taquitos and the meat was not only cold but not cut in the traditional taquito style. My husband ordered the #4 (the waitress didn't know what that meant), Taurinos #4. The carne guisada is basically chili not carne guisada. I ordered a michelada which, when I was almost done with dinner, the waitress remembers I had ordered. Needless to say, I never got it. With the thousands of Tex-Mex and Mexican restaurant options available, we will be sticking to those. This place was an absolute disappointment. read more
