This was an amazing restaurant! I came here with some friends that had been here several times before and highly recommended it. This is a cute Laotian restaurant with some interesting options that I hadn't seen before (granted I hadn't been to a Laotian restaurant before this). We ordered the Nam Khao to share and I ordered the Phad Lao. My favorite was the Nam Khao. The rice was crispy and had a nice lime flavor. The restaurant was also pretty accommodating for dietary restrictions. They were happy to replace the pork skin with tofu in the Nam Khao for my Muslim friend. The portions were also huge-I had plenty of leftovers to take home.
Taurus Ox is a decorated modern Laotian eatery known for having one of the best burgers in all of Seattle! To get here, there is street parking directly in front of the restaurant and all around the area. Reservations are highly recommended here, so plan accordingly. Inside, they have a spacious setup with a lot of seating. Wifey and I stopped by for dinner with our homies and got a spread consisting of the Chicken Wings, Lao Sausage, Lao Burger, and the Yellow Gaeng. Everything that we had was great and all of the staff here are very friendly and welcoming. Book your next reservation here and you will not regret it!
Everything here was SO good!! I was hesitant at first to come here since I've grown up eating khmer food and thought it would just be okay compared to what I've had or too similar. I wish I came sooner. It was like my cultural food, but elevated. Nam khao was the big hit, I love the texture and we fought over who could get the leftovers for this. Thom Khem was good, I liked the brussel hash, it wasn't as amazing as people made it out to be, the main was definitely the best with a great sauce. Wish they offered sticky rice with this an alt to the jasmine. The sausage entree was just okay to me, but still not bad. The ube roll with ice cream was perfect sweet treat after dinner. Fluffy and gooey in the middle. Definitely want to come back to try more of their food and to get more nam khao!
Yummy food! We got the thom Khem, Chicken Laap, Lao sausage entree, mango sticky rice, and a drink. All the food was flavorful and delicious. I recommend family style with a group so you can try different things! Service was a bit slow. I feel kinda bad because our server had such a huge section by themselves and they were always talking / serving with customers, so maybe it was an off night with less staff?
Taurus Ox has been on my list for quite some time. It's a bit out of the way being tucked on the outskirts of Cap Hill but I highly recommend Ox Burger, their spinoff store for the popular lao burger which is in a more convenient location closer to the heart of Cap Hill. I think what sets Taurus Ox apart is the ambiance and service. We were wonderfully greeted and staff took the time to explain the menu while offering recommendations based on our preferences. Lao Sausage Entree - tasty, fatty pork sausage with a mix of seasonings, spices, and aromatics. Quite a few flavors going on including spiciness, saltiness, and savoriness. The rest of the dish is simple with the rice and vegetables, but those clean ingredients balance out the fatty pork. Portion and as a result, value, is a bit underwhleming though. Phad Lao - love my pad thai as a comforting dish. While tasty, the dish isn't anything spectacular as it's very similar to other stir fried noodle dishes. Solid portion though, great for sharing in groups to help supplement other dishes. Lao Burger - this has been and likely will always be the star of the show. Everyone recommends the burger and I can see why. They offered to cut our burger into three for us which was kind. The bun is soft and slightly sweet, like the Hawaiian rolls. Inside are two smashed, juicy, tender patties accompanied by a plethora of contrasting flavors that enhance one another. The fatty pork belly, sharp milky cheese, pickled vegetables, and creamy, spicy, yet sweet mayo blend make up for an explosion of flavors.
Yes, you need to try the Lao burger!! It's on multiple top lists for a reason! Everything was so flavorful!! Meat seasoned so well, crisp edges, cheese and sauce that just make everything melt in your mouth. Absolutely scrumptious!! The Nam Khao was yummy too! It has such a unique mix of flavors; crunchy rice, tangy, savory pork skin, crunchy peanuts, and a fresh crisp of lettuce! Just so good!!! I just wish they gave us bigger pieces of lettuce. The pieces were small so it made it difficult to make a wrap. The place is tastefully decorated with Laos culture, we enjoyed sitting in the back booths, although it was a bit darker than the front. Service was good and had a great experience. We will be coming back for sure, as I am still thinking of that burger!
Been wanting to try the Lao Burger forever. And finally, we were going to a show in Seattle, so I asked my bf to take us here for dinner before the show. We got here at 7pm on a Wednesday night, and they were pretty busy. The bar was open for seating, but we decided to wait about 15 min for a table. I ordered the Lao Burger to share with my bf, and I also had to try the Nam Khao. My bf ordered two orders of the Chicken Wings as his entrée with a side of rice. I also ordered the Tamarita, and he ordered the Ox Mule. Everything was delicious. We really enjoyed the Lao Burger. We liked it so much, we ordered another to go. The Nam Khao was good, but I should've asked for more lime and ordered a side of chili oil. I thought the chicken wings were a bit salty, but probably better if I ate it with more rice. Service was good and friendly. Would love to come back for the Lao Burger, or maybe check out Ox Burger.
Taurus Ox serves up decent portions and bold spices, though service was lacking and prices edged high for the vibe. In terms of the food, the Lao burger smashed patties were relatively on the saltier side, but what's worth mentioning is the bright herbs and pickles that kept each bite from feeling one-note. Phad Lao brought a sweet-savory noodle profile that rounded out the table nicely. The Khao Piak Sen was comforting with chewy rice noodles in a thick, soothing broth, however the broth lacked depth (the Chinese donut was crispy, yet doughy). What's been consistent for the past few times I have been here are the lao sausages (though they're not pictured). Those 8 oz sausages with the jeow bong or the jeow som sure hits the spot! Where the experience fell short was service. After being seated, our party was never really checked on; had to flag servers down and make prolonged eye contact just to get our order in, there wasn't a quick "how is everything?" even as the room stayed relatively manageable but they were more than happy to hand our table the check, which made the meal feel more transactional than it needed to be.
I wasn't really impressed with the food here at all. I have a lot of friends that are Lao and have been going to their parties and this isn't it. It's good but not what I'm used to. The flavors were partially there but needed some umpf. Would I come back? Probably not. The service was great but the amount of food and how expensive it was doesn't justify m coming back.
We got the lao burger, Nam kao and a side of their sausage. Lao burger -- was sooo good. It had a thin patty with crispy edges from it being smashed. There was cured pork belly which gave it that "bacon" aspect of a burger. This was a thicker cut of "bacon" but it went well with the beef. Think ham? The pickled red onions on the burger were refreshing and it cut the greasiness of the burger. Sauce was there but never overpowered, it added to all the flavors of the protein. Highly recommend and would come back for this. Nam khao -- surprisingly very addicting. All of the flavors went well together. At first I thought there wasn't much flavor but you just have to mix everything and give it a squeeze of lime. All of the components went well together. Get a little bit of the meats, the peanuts, the chilis, the crispy rice and wrap it up. The perfect bite. It's so easy and refreshing to eat that you want to keep on eating. I love the crispy aspect of this. Sausage -- so flavorful. You can really taste the lemongrass but you can get a hint of everything. I would say the sauce is a little bit salty but I just didn't dip much. It had a nice chew but it's not like a crunchy sausage. I liked eating it with a side of the lettuce. Service overall was great. We got checked on a few times. Server was nice and recommended us some dishes since we were indecisive. We didn't catch them during a busy period so we didn't have to wait. We went evening time during the weekday. Ambiance was nice but I think the chairs weren't that comfortable after sitting for some time. It was also cold bc the door was open. That is probably bc of the day we went. Decor is nice and very homey. It's situation in a more neighborhood area so that was the vibe. Plenty of neighborhood parking. TDLR; food was good, would come back for the burger and Nam khao if I wanted something refreshing. Seating was uncomfortable. Cold restaurant. Friendly staff. Plenty of parking. Overall, wouldn't go out of my way for it but maybe if I'm craving a burger and in the area.
i'd heard some really good things about this burger - so was pretty excited to try it let's start with the bun. there are a lot of places that get the bun wrong - but this isn't one of them. the inside and outside of each bun is really well charred to a point where it's not soft but still goes easily through your mouth to make each bite satisfying. the bun is also sauced really well the pork belly is fantastic - it's full of fat and flavor. I do wish it was placed above rather than below the smash patties though - because i didn't really taste it at all until i moved it to be above the smash patties speaking of the smash patties - i'm a little confused on that front. the description says two but i was only able to make out one. maybe they just fused together somehow but for me i pretty much only noticed one smashed patty - it was pretty thick, so i can't complain too much, while eating. I do think i prefer regular patties to smashed patties though - as you lose a lot of the juiciness as far as the taste of the smash patty(ies) i thought it was really good. you can tell these were grilled really well based on the smoky, flame-based flavor present throughout the meat. these were also a perfect texture for what a smashes patty should be the cheese was another hit. you know it's perfectly melted when after taking a bite of the burger your hands are essentially dripping with cheese, along with the jaew bong mayo - which itself was pretty good adding to this dish were the onions - which i could eat an entire dish just of did think the cilantro was alright - didn't quite fulfill its role as the lettuce replacement as good as i expected the biggest thing holding this burger back in my opinion was the lack of any real non-umami flavor. if there was some spice, even a little bit, that would elevate the burger to a whole another level I considered getting the chili oil to pour over the burger, but didn't feel like paying extra for that For this reason, I can't call this the 'best burger in seattle' - but it's probably the best burger i've had in a while i thought the portion size was also near perfect - maybe just a tiny bit small
We were excited to visited Taurus Ox after eating at their burger place over on Capital Hill. We don't have too much experience with Lao cuisine and are always on the lookout for new dishes to try. Taurus Ox seemed to be the perfect next stop. This particular restaurant, located in a more residential area east of Capitol Hill, was relatively quiet for Friday lunch when we walked in. Upon opening the front door, we immediately smelled the fragrance of jasmine rice in the air, whetting our appetites. That seemed like a promising start. We were quickly led over to one of the booths towards the rear and ordered a couple of dishes: Lao Beef Jerky ($16) - This is an interesting but simple dish, consisting of thinly sliced beef jerky pieces on top of a bed of sticky rice. The jerky isn't bone dry like western jerky, but rather has some moisture and more of a tender chew. The beef is surprisingly flavorful, being very beefy and aromatic with ginger and lemongrass. They leave some of the fat on, giving a bit of contrast in mouthfeel and texture. I found the sticky rice to be a little dried out, like they had left it exposed to the air awhile, allowing a skin to form. It's not really ideal, but the interior of the sticky rice was fine. This dish comes with a side of jaew som. It's full of fishy umami, extremely fresh herbal tasting, with a light tanginess, and a slight kick at the end. (4/5) Lao Burger ($18) - This burger can be described with only several words: dry, tough, desiccated. There is something seriously wrong with the burger preparation at Taurus Ox - it's nothing like the balanced and flavorful dish served at their sister restaurant. The burgers are smashed only gently and aren't fried at high enough heat, resulting in floppy pucks without much lacy caramelization. Yet they are also somehow extremely dry inside, not to mention very salty, necessitating going through several cups of water. There's some funky cheese melted in between the two patties, which I would think would add some fat and moisture to the dish, but it's also somehow dried out and tough. The slice of pork belly on the bottom also doesn't help; it's completely overcooked, rendering it a tough salt bomb. I feel like they screwed up and forgot to add the jaew tomato, a critical piece that's really needed to moisten things up. I believe they also didn't add nearly enough of the jaew bong mayo on the bottom slice of bread, I found a certain aromatic and funky flavor, but it also didn't contribute much moisture. Unlike the crisp thicker cut taro stem in the burger at Ox Burger, it's thinly shaved here so it doesn't contribute any texture. At least there are pickled onions on top, slightly fishy and umami, to give some crunch. Overall the flavor profile in general is very good, but the dryness of the whole concoction is unforgivable. I would never order the burger at Taurus Ox again. (2/5) Thom Khem Bowl Lunch Special ($20) - I think this is a half size portion of the $28 entree Thom Khem. It includes a bed of jasmine rice, fragrant and perfectly cooked; a bit of a soft bite giving great mouthfeel. There's half an egg on top, hardboiled and marinated well, then cut in half and pan fried, giving a fried skin (think tiger egg). They serve the dish with some mustard greens. Based on the presentation and serving temperature (cold), I believe they are blanched, iced, then hand wrung before being placed in the bowl. The leaves aren't too bitter for being mustard greens. Some chopped fresno peppers give a bit of a kick. Then we arrive at the star of the dish: the pork belly. Unlike some other places around Seattle that served "pork belly" but actually use cheaper cuts of pork shoulder, Taurus Ox uses full fat belly, albeit skinless. The pieces are cooked until fall apart tender and are braised in a liquid that almost becomes gravy-like in consistency, soaking into and flavoring the rice. It's aromatic, full of umami and saltiness, blending perfectly with the rice. It's a flavorbomb and quite delicious. (4/5) I rarely comment on service, but I feel like Taurus Ox has actively poor service, not to mention that they take noticeable cost cutting measures, giving a poor experience overall. Firstly, they charge high prices for relatively small portions. That's fine if they're going for more mid-to-upscale customers. But then they take shortcuts by having customers pick their own silverware and napkins, similar to a counter service place. The waiters take a completely lackadaisical attitude, sauntering slowly between tables, but mostly standing around not doing anything. For this kind of establishment, and especially due to the fact that the restaurant was only a quarter full or so, I should not need to ask for water refills. I should not have to sit around for fifteen minutes waiting for the check. With how much I enjoyed the burger over at Ox Burger, I can't help but to be disappointed about Taurus Ox. Bathrooms - Two unisex rooms.

Came for dinner with a friend to catch up. The restaurant itself is a bit small, so there wasn't any available seating when we arrived, but we were able to sit down to eat after a 10-15 minute wait. While the restaurant is small, it is not cramped. Overall very cozy/homey feeling. The food here is absolutely amazing. Honestly some of the best food I've had in cap hill. Everything is seasoned thoroughly and the layering of sweetness adds complexity to all the flavors. I got the pork sausage plate with tomato jeaw. My friend for the Thom Khem (caramelized pork belly). We also both got the sweet tea and it slaps. Definitely check out some of the housemade beverages! The only slight downside is that we both don't really get service inside the restaurant and I don't think there's wifi, so doing the online ordering to your table doesn't always work. Oh my goodness. Order the burger!!! So we got papaya salad, a burger and the sausage plate. Everything was amazing from beginning to end. Got seated quickly since we came right before the dinner rush and great service was provided through and through. The burger was so good we ordered a 2nd burger after eating everything else. read more
After the fun, after the drinks, this hidden spot will be sure to satisfy your traditional Laotian cravings. The "Lao Burger" is EVERYTHING O hoped it would be! Full of flavor and even comes with 2 Pattie's and provolone cheese. YUM! The sausage!!!! Perfectly steamed and then fried for a crispy outside makes this the highlight of my meal! Perfect accompaniment to a good scoop of rice and some custom condiments provided with the order. I wish this place was a little bigger but that's what it keeps it known as a neighborhood gem. There are only a few tables and a small bar counter for seated dining. Ordering takeout is VERY POPULAR here. read more
A friend and I dined in outside on a chilly night. There's about 3 tables and overhead heater available in the patio outside. I got the pork belly dish and she got the noodle soup. The server was super accommodating with food allergies. Portions are on the small side for the price but the food is really flavorful. I would not expect to have any leftovers ordering an entree per person. The noodle soup had a really good broth. Containers were all compostable. While we were seated outside, a random guy sat down to drink a beer and the server came out shortly after to ask him to leave because he wasn't a customer. Towards the end of the evening, it was around 830pm, they had a canceled order and instead of reusing or throwing it away, the server came out again and just offered it to us so we got to try the chicken larb. I really enjoyed the food and service here. I look forward to trying the burger next time. I had heard good things about it. read more
As Thai, the food here offers a super familiar flavors but not quite the same, in a good way! It was very interesting to experience what my neighboring country cuisine is like. The dishes share a lot of the same name and ingredients but their taste couldn't be more different. The Khao Soi, instead of crispy noodles and sweet curry broth, is made with thick rice noodles in clear soup that was made a little thick from the starch of the noodles with sweet pork and lots of herb. Similarly with the Papaya Salad, most of the dish was the same as the Thai version besides the salty shrimp paste; very interesting but I still prefer the Thai version :p. The Chicken Laab was basically the same as how Thais have their laab just drier because grilled chicken was used instead of boiled ground chicken. I thought the addition of crispy chicken skin was very nice. A fun little spot offering a unique cuisine in the city. Glad we dropped by! read more
This review is for takeout only. It looks like there is also a small (unheated and uncovered) outdoor patio carved out of the street but when I went to pick up my order, I saw that the patio was closed. Taurus Ox has become my new favorite Asian restaurant in Seattle, serving up incredibly delicious dishes that put Laotian food on the city's culinary map. Like many below have recommended, the must-orders here are the Lao Burger and the Thom Khem! The Lao Burger is the best burger I've had in Seattle! Featuring two beef and pork smash-patties with Jeaw Bong Mayo, cilantro, cheese, taro stem and pickles, the Lao Burger is a warm and tangy hybrid between a bahn mi and your traditional All-American burger. The taro stem and cilantro added a fragrant twist! The Thom Khem is a rice dish featuring tenderly braised and caramelized pork belly with a soy-cured, hard-cooked egg. It also comes with a side of fresno chile and brussel hash. read more

Ordered Lao Pork Sausage and Thom Khem. Sausage was flavorful and reminded me of Thai isarn sausages. I did wish it had a little more lime zest to it. Highly recommend getting it with the regular jaew! It adds an extra flavor profile to the sausage and veggies. Thom Khem was my favorite of the two. Brussel hash browns complimented the braised pork belly pretty well. The braise had the right amount of sweetness and sauciness to it to make it really delicious! Also I am a huge fan of the pickled peppers :) Price is average. Thom Khem did give fair amount of food for the price point. For the sausage it was maybe on the pricier side. read more
Cozy spot for some flavorful food! No reservations, indoor and outdoor seating. Bathroom inside. While the food was yummy (more on that below), what really stood out was the amazing service! The staff put together a corner table for us so we could get seated then cleaned up a different table a few minutes later when those guests left so we could be in a better spot. He checked on us even though it's a casual spot and said we could take our time even though the it was near closing time. The service alone makes me want to come back! -Khao Soi noodle soup: the combination of the ground pork, fermented soybean, and the herbs made for a delicious dish, and the added crunch from the fried pork skin made it even better -Thom Khem (pork belly and rice): felt like a warm, homey dish in the best way. Best Laotian food I've had in a long time. We did family style and shared, and our fantastic server made wonderful recommendations. Everything is good, but the thing that absolutely blew my mind was the Lao Pork Sausage Plate. You might be thinking hmmm in-house sausage is usually dry and not usually a top dish, nothing to write home about...but you'd be dead wrong. Throw a party for this sausage. It's succulent and bursting with mind-boggling flavor. I also loved the Nam Khao, which used to be a sort of secret menu item but they added it to mains because everyone wants it, for good reason. Finally, you must top off the meal with mango sticky rice. I would have loved a bit more mango on it for balance, but overall, the flavors were perfection read more

Probably the best food from my seattle trip! We visited last year at the old location because we were so excited to try an upscale lao restaurant and knew we had to come back again this year. We were surprised to see the new location but it's much larger, has table service, and is more intimate. Lao burger- I'm still drooling, everything about this burger was a 10/10. The jeow bong mayo was a stroke of genius. I loved the taro stem and pickles Beef jerky- A perfect lemograss jerky! We subbed the jeow tomato (which i'm guessing is jeow mak len?) for jeow bong which we thought paired perfectly! Lao gumbo- Not my favorite but I see the vision. I don't think I have the taste for gumbo but I'll stick to getting the side of pork sausage next time Lao sausage- Soooo good and another must try. For any socal people, it's up there with Nok's kitchen! read more

I COULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS ENOUGH!!!!!!! I'm not being dramatic when I tell you the best thing I have eaten in my lifetime was the Lao Burger. Make the trip here, wait however long it takes, and try to savor every minute of the culinary delight. The service was great and so was the atmosphere, but I would eat this food in a sketchy alley off a dirty plate. Don't walk. Run!!! read more

I ordered takeout during covid for the Thom Khem, Khao Soi, side of Lao Pork Sausage (not the entree), side of sticky rice and Jeow Bong to eat with the sticky rice. This was my first time trying Laotian food. I feel like in order to really enjoy this experience you must like lemongrass which can taste very soapy. When I tried the Lao pork sausage, that's when I learned what lemongrass tastes like and I couldn't finish it. However, my boyfriend loved it! Jeow Bong- I must say I don't quite get this however I did taste bits of pork belly in it at times which I enjoyed Khao soi- this was interesting, I liked the minced pork bites and the soup is very light. It does get a little too herby at times though so be aware of that! My boyfriend thought this was very plain though and didn't eat more than a bite. Thom khem- If you're on this page you already have read all the amazing reviews on this pork belly dish. Yes it's absolutely delicious! I think they give you a good amount of sauce that you could probably make some more rice to mix with the sauce that's left over! Next time I'll just order the thom khem but I feel like if you don't mind lemongrass and strong herby tastes then you'll definitely love this place! read more
Taurus Ox is like Kedai Makan (RIP), but without the crazy 2hr line. And by this, I mean that they're both underwhelming with overly salty food. My party of two ordered: -the burger: I thought this pork/beef burger was the best thing I ate here, my dining companion was not impressed -jerky: wow it REALLY was jerky; tough, salty, hard to eat even with the rice? Didn't really get the concept here. -sausage: also salty, generous portion, fine but unremarkable? -curry: this was a newer menu item, and honestly this pumpkin(?) curry was not even as good as others that I've had at fast casual resties. Not a good selection/variety of veggies and pretty mild/bland overall. A weak curry. I don't know friends, what is there to like here? read more
Stumbled upon this place while visiting Seattle and now I can't wait to go back! The standout dish was the Lao burger - so juicy and really unique Asian flavors. I'm already craving it again less than a week after visiting! We also tried the sausage and rice noodle dish (similar to pad Thai). The sausage had great lemongrass flavor and a slight kick that paired well with the sticky rice. The rice noodle dish was also good and had unique flavors. Also ordered the guava lemon mocktail and it was delicious! The ambiance was very lively and the restaurant is decorated nicely. I like how there's a communal table too. Southeast Asian cuisine is often overshadowed by Thai and Vietnamese food. So I'm always happy to try new spots featuring new countries in South East Asia. We made a reservation on a Friday evening and still had to wait a it before being seated. Waiter was friendly and attentive. We ordered a few food items and enjoyed it all. My friends had the burger which they enjoyed - looks like they used Franz buns which I was a tad disappointed with (you could see it sitting on the window). I got the stewed pork belly over rice which was delicious and the smashed Brussels was a delicious touch over it. Appetizers were good too - we had the jerkey and one of their salads. We've eaten twice here and each time, it gets better! Staff is nice and patient. We always take a while to order because we want to order the entire menu to try everything lol. We have ordered: Khao Soi, Lao Burger, Lao Sausage, Thom Khem, Phad Lao, and Papaya Salad. Their papaya is a must. A little saltier than what I am used to, but nothing a little rice pairing cant fix. Khao Soi is good, the chicharrons adds a nice crunch to the soup. Lao Burger is a MUST here - super juicy patties paired with a good crunch and palate cleanser from the pickled onions. Great spot for both lunch and dinner. read more
My favorites from this whole spread were the pad lao and mango sticky rice by far! The pad lao noodles had great bouncy texture and flavor - the peppers were surprisingly sweet. Mango sticky rice - we really left a lot of the rice just because we were full but the crispy rice puff topping adds a great texture juxtaposition to an otherwise mushy dessert! Clever and simple. The chicken laap was ok; a nice carbless dish but a bit dry. The papaya salad was also worth getting if you're into that - had a bit more fish saucy but was refreshing The sauces are definitely worth trying. I would not order the garlicky greens again; not what I expected; don't know why I was looking forward to some seaweed there. It was a bit bitter. read more

Lots of new good flavors! This was my first Lao food at a restaurant. Five stars for good friendly service. Five stars for flavor and uniqueness. I highly recommend going. I'll come back. Wish menu was a few items more. But what that have - they do well. 4 stars stars for easy parking around. Great new addition to the favs around Seattle area. I come to seattle for work every now and then and hadnt ventured outside of downtown until my last trip. I am SO GLAD I stumbled upon this Laotian restaurant. I've never had Laos food before and was so satisfied with everything. All the food had so much flavor. The thom khem pork belly dish was my favorite. The pork was so tender and had such a good sauce the paired with the rice. The chicken dish was refreshing and sausage was nicely spiced. Loved the puffed rice with the mango sticky rice desert! They use like 4 different types of coconuts to get that flavor immersed with the rice and it isn't too sweet. read more
Taurus Ox offers Lao food in Cap Hill. I've had Lao food a couple of times and was happy to try another. I called in my order; food was ready and on time at 20 minutes later. Yay! The Food: Thom Khem, $14 - 5 Stars Braised and caramelized pork belly with a soy-cured, hard-cooked egg, Fresno chile, and brussel hash. First, this dish smells A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. Being pork belly, this is a more oily dish. The pork was very, very tender. All the items worked very well with each other. This is a must order! Phad Lao with Tofu, $14 - 3 Stars Stir fried rice noodles in a tamarind-padaek sauce, cabbage, peanuts, shredded egg, herbs with an option of tofu. I had higher hope for this dish. The seasoning and flavor didn't come through very well, and it tasted kind of bland. The tofu is additional cost. The base price is $12 +$2 for the tofu. Their menu has primarily meat dishes and just the phad lao and sides like papaya salad for the non-meat eater. I suspect meat eaters will enjoy this restaurant more. read more
We were interested in trying Laotian food so we gave Taurus Ox a try. It's located under an apartment complex on Madison St. so there isn't a lot of parking around the area. If you place an order online, they advise you to park in the 7-11 across the street for pickup. The restaurant has a casual vibe with counter service. There's a few tables inside and a covered outdoor seating as well. We ordered the Lao burger and Khao Soi to share. We both really enjoyed the Lao burger since the flavors worked really well together and it was something we've never had before. It comes with two beef/pork smash patties with a mayo sauce, cheese, pickles and taro root. The Khao Soi had a fermented bean sauce with pork and aromatics on top including mint, green onion and cilantro. Despite all the ingredients, I thought the dish overall could have been more flavorful. The rest of the menu looked intriguing so I would definitely come back to try their other dishes! read more
Very good and flavorful dishes! Impressed by the spiciness level as well; however, I do think this place is over-hyped unfortunately as I was expecting more. We came here on a Friday night at 7pm and there was only a wait for ~10 minutes for a group of 3. Dishes ordered: -papaya salad -thom khem -lao sausage -phad lao All of these dishes except papaya salad were very flavorful and delicious. I was disappointed by the portion sizes though. For example, the papaya salad was 9$ but was served in a tiny bowl which could be shared with 2 people at maximum. Thom Khem dish's soup/marinade was amazing and goes great with the extra rice we got which was 3$. I left feeling satisfied but not completely full, which is why I'm knocking down one star due to price vs portion size ratio. Parking is street parking. read more

Been meaning to try this place out and it didn't disappoint! I ordered the Lao burger and it was super juicy, flavorful, and filling. I honestly didn't really remember the description so I had no idea what some of the stuff on it was but it all went very well together and I thought the cilantro gave it a nice extra something that set it apart. It was also a pretty good size and I was sufficiently full after finishing it. Only issue I had was that the bun was kind of soggy which made it get really messy. My friends ordered the Thom Khem and the Phad Lao which they both liked as well! We came on a Saturday night and joined the waitlist at 7:15 with an estimated wait of 30 min-1:15hrs. There were 12 parties ahead of us but we got seated at around 7:45. Their seating system was a bit odd as there was a big table that was cleared at around 7:20 and they didn't seat anyone there. Eventually they asked us and another group if we'd be willing to share, which we both were, but it would've been nice if they had asked us earlier since the table was just empty the whole time and no larger groups were coming in. read more
