Very large restaurant and on a late Sunday morning, it wasn't too busy for brunch. Friend ordered the Denver omelet, which was filled with lots of tasty ingredients. Her son had a cheeseburger from the kids menu, and it was quite a large dish for kids. The fries were excellent, but too salty for a young child. I had the two egg breakfast, and I enjoyed all of it though the potatoes weren't to my liking. It took awhile to flag our waitress down for some butter for my toast. She was actually MIA for quite awhile, and I had to flag another waitress to pay the bill. read more

Went to Tavern 23 for Happy Hour with a friend and wow their happy hour deals are great! Got a crunchy crab roll for $8 and then split a plate of nachos. And they were both fabulous. There was a bit of a long wait between getting our food and then getting the bill but it was happy hour and there weren't a lot of servers so I can excuse that away with how good the prices were. I really wanted to like this place but I probably never go again. We sat at the bar and service was slowwwww. We had a group of 18 people that we made a reservation for at 7:00pm. When the first of the party arrived at 7:00pm he was told the kitchen closed at 7:30p on Sunday and the group couldn't be seated. i was not told this info when I booked the reservation. When I arrived I pointed this out to the host who then checked with the manager and we were seated with no problem. What made this a 5 star experience was our waiter Miles. He didn't make us feel rushed in the least. He gave us perfect friendly service. And on top of that all the food we ordered was exactly what we order and came out hot and delicious. So another shout out to the kitchen for not hurrying thru the preparation. They created a great experience for what could have been a very disappointing one. And the best part is we all enjoyed a leisurely dinner and when we left there were still people in the restaurant. read more

Our family decided to try this place, I had eaten her years back when it was named something else. We decided to try the breakfast. Entrée 1 Spicy Sausage Scramble egg whites with chorizo, sausage & onions came with breakfast potatoes. I felt like my eggs were coated with Cayenne pepper and possibly under cooked, the breakfast potatoes were burnt had french fries blended in. Entrée 2 Two Egg Breakfast egg whites with bacon , again, I feel like the eggs a little undercooked and the bacon was under cooked for me but I like my bacon extra crispy. The toast & Raspberry Jam ok, they only give you enough jam for one piece of bread. Entrée 3 Basil Pesto Linguine he did not eat much of nor did he complain not sure if he was being polite. The bottomless mimosas and bloody Mary tasty & felt like I defiantly got more Alcohol than orange juice. I would not recommend this place for breakfast foods. Atmosphere is warm & welcoming. I'm stuck on whether I think this should be a 3 or 4 star review, I'm probably hovering around a 3.5 right now. The service my first time around was great, the food was great, etc. etc. Unfortunately, our last visit for a birthday wasn't the same. Granted, this is a new era of serving post-COVID but something certainly has changed here which is a bummer. The last time we came for a friends birthday the food was a little lacking and the service even more so. We were basically begging our server to give us some attention so we could order more food and drinks but she didn't seem that interested in taking our money, so eventually, we stopped trying. It probably won't deter me from stopping by again, but I don't know that I'll seek it out if someone else doesn't suggest it. read more

This place is a solid lunch choice. I've been here for a slew of different reasons and it has worked well for all. I truly enjoy any and all of their salads (my personal fave is the kale cashew salad add grilled chicken) the dressing has a lil kick and the cashew crunch is great 10 outt 10. read more

We stay in Bloomington/Edina area at least 3 times a year. We have been coming to Tavern 23 for at least 4 years. The menu is diverse and good (and has some unique options) and their drink menu is also great. Service has always been good too. We often come with 8 to 12 people and they don't bat an eye. Sounds perfect right???? This summer, we have walked in at around 9:00 twice and they rush us. They sort of seem annoyed when we came in, but quickly seated us. Once sat the server says, the kitchen is closing at 9:30 so you need to make selections. At that moment, I remembered this same interaction from a few months ago. (I thought you closed at 10?) When I worked in the restaurant industry, that meant you seated until 10. Last night, we got our food and when she said, "do you need anything else?" It was followed with, "the kitchen is closed so I hope not." I ordered a 2nd drink and when she brought it, she said, "the bartender said no more. He closed his till." She did not ask everyone at the table if they wanted anything or give a traditional last call. Keep in mind it was 9:45 at this point. Not technically closed. We finished our meal and left at 1017. The lights were turned on at 9:55 and the music was shut off. I just think that it was ridiculous. I just think it's such an unfortunate thing because this restaurant has great potential to be awesome. read more

a first timer to edina neighborhood staple @tavern_23 they had a surprisingly large menu and an unexpectedly nice interior, especially the dining room! we sat in one of the bar booths for a quick bite with a friend and it was one of the simpler dining experiences I've had in awhile. unlike many of my friends, I'm a HUGE fan of a hearty, fall beef stroganoff classic. i grew up with my mom's which to this day happens to be one of my favorite meals. while it didn't compare to as good as hers (she's truly a 5 chef), it wasn't bad, and to me, that's a win! it was a lot different than the dish I was used to but had an interesting twist with really tender strips of steak and perfectly cooked bucatini. however, it could definitely benefit with some added mushrooms to build up the taste. all in all, this was a solid experience and I can definitely see why so many locals come back for more! read more

I'm generally skeptical of a menu that includes burgers, sushi, pizza, enchiladas, pasta, and oh heck, let's throw in some sangria and a margarita while we're at it! The lack of focus signals lower your expectations. But this was a convenient location for a quick happy hour with a friend, just off of France with plenty of free parking in the Centennial Lakes lot. It does have a nice outdoor patio with a little water view surrounded by office buildings if you're into that Office Space vibe, or just enjoying the glorious fresh springtime breeze. We caught a little static from the host stand for trying to get a table outside, despite open tables and it being specifically requested on our reservation. Eventually we were seated and aside from that, service was friendly. I was pleasantly surprised by the very cheap happy hour prices. Tecate was $3 along with some other beer (PBR, Hamms) and most apps were around $6. Chips and salsa were $3, which came with tons of chips but not enough salsa. The crab crunch roll was more of a mushy mayonnaise mess. The margherita flatbread was the star of the show, if there was one to be had. I guess you get what you pay for in terms of quality. But after a few beers, three apps, splitting the bill, and including a tip, we were out of there for less than $20 each. Not bad. Met a colleague here for lunch. Loved it. I wanted a light lunch and opted for the Caprese salad. It was good. My colleague had a half sandwich and cup of soup. She also enjoyed her lunch. Went here today for a work lunch (about 12 people), and the servers were super attentive and friendly! I liked the hockey memorabilia on the walls and watching the ice skaters out the window. The menu had a wide selection of options from pizza to tacos to sushi. I ordered the boneless barbecue wings, which was a smaller portion than I expected for $15. Others in my group had more appropriate servings for the price, so if you go here I'd advise against ordering a starter and maybe go with an entree instead as they are similar in price. Ordered through Door Dash for dinner. I ordered the Pecan Crusted Canadian Walleye with kale salad and mashed potatoes for $32.00. The order was delivered, but there was no salad in there and the price was the same as always. Door Dash just delivers what they're given so I called the restaurant. The person who answered was very rude and said they removed the kale salad from the menu. Well, I told him that the Door Dash menu still has the kale salad on there and the price wasn't reduced. So, no salad or veggies or anything. $32.00 for just the fish and potatoes which is a total ripoff. Writing this review because he said he'd have the manager call me and comp some of the meal. Well, since it's been 3 weeks and I haven't heard back it's obvious I'm not going to get a phone call from the manager. Personally, with the guy who answered the phone's attitude, I don't think he had any intention of relaying my information to the manager. So sad. Just a solid, no-frills tavern and grill. Has a huge menu with variety enough for any taste. Tried the French dip with French fries. Both were good, but not great. The good: great happy hour, quick service, large menu selection, you can usually get a table without a reservation The bad: with such a large menu, the quality of food just isn't there with the "main" dishes. The burger, wraps, flatbreads, and appetizers are great - but the more staple dinner options lack a bit. We ordered the beef stroganoff and I wouldn't recommend this. My husband and I came here with our 15 month old. Food was very average and service was slow. We got a caprese salad to start. It was ok but hard to tell if there was olive oil on there. The tomato in the salad still had the sticker on (I ate half the sticker on accident!). Kids meal mac and cheese was delicious! However only had fries for the kids meal side- no fruit or applesauce or anything- which was kind of disappointing. The fries were decent, quite salty which is how I like them. I ordered the Hawaiian flatbread. The crust was nice and crispy but the ham and pineapple should have been put under the broiler to caramelize or crisp up a bit- they were limp and cold, and the pineapple was definitely from a can. My husband got the burger and had no complaints or praise either way. Nice patio but probably won't be back, not a great experience but not worth the $$ in my opinion. read more

Went on Memorial Day. Pretty sure they were short staffed because I only saw 2 servers in the patio area and there were at least 17 tables full. This caused terrible service. We were sat down. Didn't get a server to check on our table for at least 7 or 8 minutes. We ordered drinks and a happy hour app, the California Roll. The California Roll was good for happy hour prices. Would recommend. Drinks were good as well. Wife had a Moscow Mule and I had a Big Wave. These all came out promptly. We ordered the Hickory Burger and Orange Peel Chicken to split. We didn't know they would do this but they automatically split our entrees so we each had two plates. This was a pleasant surprise. Hickory Burger was a bit messy but delicious. Unfortunately, my wife asked for a side of ranch when we ordered initially, then again after the food came without it. She waited as long as she could for the ranch before realizing that our server would not be getting us the ranch in any timely manner. We received the side of ranch about 15-20min after our food was given to us and we were all done with our meal. The server blamed it on someone else he apparently asked to get us the ranch. Definitely a case of the server being overwhelmed with tables, but disappointing nonetheless. The Orange Peel Chicken with fried rice was not good at all. This meal was $20 and taste like they made microwaved fried rice out of a bag, put it on a plate and then threw some other chicken and veggies that they also microwaved, on top of that. Not only that, but they clearly used some canned Mandarin oranges in the dish, which were not good either. If Panda Express' Orange chicken is an 8 out of 10, this dish was a 2 out of 10. I would come back for Happy Hour. Their Happy Hour menu and prices are hard to beat, especially for Edina off of France Avenue. They have a nice patio. I really wanted to like this place, but it isn't my favorite. I've been here probably 4 times, because it is in a convenient spot and easy to meet someone after work for a drink or a bite to eat. When I first saw their menu, I was so excited because they had sushi! Do not be fooled, this is the most bland and subpar sushi in all of Edina. I honestly don't know why they even have it on the menu. Sorry, that was harsh. I have had better luck with their salads and main dishes. Last night I shared the Large Caesar Salad, Nanne's Bolognese, and Shrimp Tempura Roll with my table of 3. I really liked the salad and bolognese (with garlic bread!! YUM), but really wish the sushi had any taste or looked appealing. I've always liked the service at Tav 23, so for that reason, I haven't stopped coming here. I recently went to Tavern 23. The ambiance and the set up of the restaurant is the best part! It's right on the lake which is beautiful and very soothing. The service was decent. The appetizer came out after the main course which was not ideal. None the less the food was still pretty good! read more

I have a good association with this location as I had lunch there before being offered a job. That being said this location is very conveniently located for anyone in the centennial lakes office buildings. Besides some confusion on the existence of chicken nachos as a hidden menu item the service has been top notch. The food items I've had have been quite delicious and the price point is within reason. I will probably go back there for a work lunch again soon. read more

This place patio is literally on the centinneal lakes park... you get the best view of the park and pleasant atmosphere to sit out... i always try to sit in the patio in the summer months.. this place is one of our regulars too... they have a nice happy hour menu... portions are too good even for a happy hour menu... we love the nachos from here.. the queso suace is delicious... flatbreads are good too.. we've tried margarita and bbq pizza as well...This place has some great sushi options as well.. Bland food and lukewarm soggy fries. The place has a nice atmosphere and the bar and the service are good, but the food leaves a lot to be desired. The ahi tuna sandwich lacked flavor and the French Dip was poorly prepared - half the sandwich had twice more meat than the other half. There are plenty of other nearby places that have much better food. read more

This is a nice place to visit with friends after work. They have both indoor and patio seating. We visited on a Friday evening and we were seated right away. They have a dedicated parking which makes it easy to park as I don't think there are lots around the building. Now coming to the food and drinks - They have limited selection of beers and wine. We ordered the Prime Poutine and Pepperoni & Italian Sausage Flatbread. The prime rib cuts on the Poutine was amazing. So was the gravy and cheese curds. The flatbread tasted good as well - right amount of cheese and pizza sauce. The pizza sauce had a little bit of hot spice to it which made it taste really good. I met my girlfriends for brunch last Sunday morning and we all enjoyed our food. They have a full lunch/dinner menu available all day, plus a brunch menu on Saturday and Sunday mornings. We all ordered off the brunch menu. I ordered the Smoked Salmon Scramble, which automatically came with a side of breakfast potatoes. The scramble was perfect, nicely done obviously real eggs, chunks of yummy salmon, capers, and just a touch of cream cheese mixed in, loved it! We sat outside as the morning was beautiful and the patio was popular, it is right on Centennial Lake, there was a light breeze and a few leaves falling, sunny with sparkling water, gorgeous! One of my girlfriends had a Two Egg Breakfast as well as the Cinnamon Roll and she enjoyed both! The other had a Veggie Omelet and she added ham, she loved that, too! I didn't finish my potatoes, but they were good, the scramble was filling! Our waitress was on top of it, asked us right away if we wanted anything other than water, brought our mimosas quickly, and answered our questions about the food and any changes we wanted, she was in top form! I would definitely visit again. Apologies for not having pictures, I was so into the food and conversation! The reason I gave a 4 is because when I arrived at the restaurant host stand, no one came over to greet me, a couple of staff looked at me, but continued doing what they were doing. We had not tried this restaurant and were looking forward to doing so. Wish we had gone elsewhere. Though it is a comfortable place to sit with friends and have a meal, the food is solely lacking. We had 4 different dishes among us, and the food was tasteless and very underwhelming. The portions were super small, especially for the price. There are almost no vegetarian options on the menu. The cocktails were not well balanced at all, and the liquor tasted cheap. With one cocktail and one meal each (no appetizer) our bill came to over $75 per couple which I consider way too high for a substandard dining experience. My husband asked where we could get a sandwich after dinner. Never a good sign. Way too many good restaurants in this city to select from; this is not one of them and needless to say we will not be retuning. read more
