Tavern 27 is a must try!! The food was phenomenal. We start with roasted brussel sprouts and bacon with a balsamic reduction. Cooked to perfection (not too soft but not too crunchy) Pepper Poppers and Garlic Poppers. Which were very light and unlike traditional Jalapeno Poppers, the Jalapeno and cheese were blender together and covered with panko bread crumbs, to then be baked We didn't stop there....lol Next was the Loaded Steak Roulade, the combination of mashed potatoes, bacon, cheese, garlic and steak was on point. Just the right amount to taste a delicious steak dinner wrapped up! Finally, we took to-go the Chicken, Bacon and Apple pizza, made on their homemade sour dough crust. Also topped with asiago cheese and a very tasty black pepper aioli! Again a MUST TRY! The atmosphere was very cozy. They gave you the option to sit infront of the fire place, bar area or high tops. The staff was delightful and very attentive to all guest. The owner was very nice and funny. As other reviewers have mentioned, the restaurant is not open, but their food truck, Trolley 27, is setup next to an outdoor, partially covered bar. The setup is a little rustic, but a lovely rural setting. There is a gravel parking lot, behind the restaurant (an old farm home), and the outdoor bar is located there, along with a tiny golf course. The menu is limited, and mainly consists of gluten-free waffle sandwiches, and fruit smoothies. But, compared to most of the much less appetizing and unhealthier options around Laconia, this looked promising. I came here with my wife and 9-year-old son, on Saturday afternoon, after riding the Winnipesaukee Scenic Railroad, with the promise of getting to see another "train." The food was very good. Tasty, fresh, and satisfying. My wife had the BLT Waffle Sandwich, I had the Wafflepesaukee (basically a BLT, with lobster), and my son had a peanut butter waffle sandwich. Our toughest critic really loved the waffles, and liked the peanut butter (although he didn't like that it was "different" from home). My wife and I both enjoyed our sandwiches, and shared a coconut almond milk smoothie. They had several beers, wines, and other drinks available, but we are currently staying "dry." So, for one of the few COVID trips to a restaurant we've made this year, we were overall quite pleased. However, two big things stuck out that really bothered me. One, none of the staff was wearing masks while they were interacting with us or preparing food, from what I could see in the food truck and behind the bar. I really didn't understand that, as they all seemed to have them around their neck, and it made me feel nervous while we were there. Second, the bathroom setup, which we figured out after a regular pointed us to the large towable porta-potty behind the building, was a little sketchy. Several of the stalls were out-of-order, which under the COVID circumstances is understandable, but it wasn't clear that they were out of order for that reason or if it was from neglect. It was a step-up from the standard porta-potty, but not much. These two issues aren't probably the biggest deal to everyone, but for my anxiety, I think they were both red flags. We stumbled here tonight after searching Yelp for a decent meal in Laconia. We were promptly greeted and told that they were booked with reservations at 7 and were unable to seat us (6:00pm). The hostess ended up ordering us the couch area with a coffee table and we snagged that. Beer menu was slim but I enjoyed an awesome marg in a HuGE jar!! I've been to tapas restaurants before but this one in particular is s....l....o....w..... It took a while to place our drink order and then dinner. It was well over an hour before we saw our first bit of food and we were hangry. Food was delicious but it took too long. On a Saturday- they only had one bartender and one server so service wasn't great but they were still professional. We will try it again next time we are in town.. but with a reservation for an actual table read more

This restaurant is amazing! The menu has a ton of unique options for everyone, and truly does the best job I've ever seen with offering a true gluten free menu!! There is no risk at all of cross contamination, as they have dedicated friers and are extremely educated regarding preparing food gluten free. They have many options for vegan and vegetarian as well. I will remember Tavern 27 forever. I have never had such a well rounded experience for dinner at any other place. Tavern 27 makes you feel like you are being served dinner at home, mainly cause it is a repurposed house! They serve large portioned tapas which come out one at a time. We got the haddock bites, chickpea fries, "how sweet it is" flatbread, crab-cake skewers, and combo poppers. All were delicious with their individual side sauces but my favorites were the haddock bites and the how sweet it is flatbread. Along with dinner we enjoyed the pianist, Bob, who was such a delight to talk to and we were able to request songs from his book of hundreds of popular songs to play. The owner was so personable and made sure every group felt welcomed and accommodated. Being in the food industry I love when I'm able to get that personal touch! My wife and I ate here because of the gluten-free menu advertised online. If you eat gluten-free, you may have had experiences with restaurants that advertise GF food but fail to avoid cross-contamination. This place, by contrast, really does have excellent and fully gluten-free food. (My wife who has celiac disease ate a full meal without experiencing any problems.) Having said that, we loved everything about Tavern 27. The old farmhouse ambience was really nice. The pepper poppers, the green beans with bacon, the artichokes with goat cheese, and the haddock bites were all delicious. Our server Phil did a great job. The food was amazing, but the service was lacking. We arrived at 7:30 and were seated almost immediately, the menu looked amazing so we ordered a handful of things. We had our 4 year old with us so I specifically asked for them to bring his pizza out first. 45 minutes later he still didn't have his pizza. An hour after we got there we finally got the first parts of our order. I also didn't get my beverage (tea) until about 30 minutes after I ordered, and only because I asked where it was. At this point we were hungry and at 9pm, still only half of our food made it out. The manager explained that the 45 minute delay was because we ordered a lot of salads, and there was a back up with the salad station. I wish that we had been given the option to have our other appetizers first (as it was explained things would be coming out the entire time we were there but it sounds like they only bring your food out after the salads, even if there is a 45 minute delay). I do appreciate that the manager tried to remedy what had happened but I'm still very discouraged by my experience. I understand sometimes things take longer than expected but there was no communication from our waiter or even an apology at any point from our waiter. In my opinion a warning on timing, an apology and an explanation go a long way. I would not recommend going hungry or if you expect to leave within 2 hours of arriving. My husband is a grain free vegan and my son has serious and multiple food allergies, and Tavern 27 was great with both of these and they both had many options to choose from. That said, their service was prompt, but not particularly friendly or gregarious. The restaurant itself is literally falling apart; the handle to the rest room fell off in my hand. The food was extremely spicy, to the point that my son wouldn't eat even his French fries or "plain" chicken. Additionally, the food was fairly expensive given the quantity. Ray and Leslie nail it AGAIN! Our group of six thoroughly enjoyed Tavern 27"s new COVID-friendly approach to outdoor dining. We're huge fans of Tavern 27's regular fare and vibe ... so we had our fingers crossed when we drove up and saw the food truck (trolley27), outdoor bar and live band out in a field. What can you say, other than this couple has the magic touch. It's very casual but lively, and while the idea of waffle-based entrees sure seemed eclectic at first, the food was absolutely delicious. We had a great time on a beautiful NH summer evening ... and Ray even set off some fireworks to end the evening. Everyone I saw was having a lot of fun, probably Ray most of all. Thankfully my hotel recommended this lovely local charmer. A hearty welcome from the owner and introduction the restaurant's philosophy (larger tapas portions - many items sourced locally) started our evening out well. We tried a superfood salad, Brussel sprouts, steak and potato skewers. Plenty of food for the two of us after the complimentary chips and spread that my friend enjoyed. (There was only one fryer for shellfish and chips, so I skipped as I have a shellfish allergy. ) Half way through our meal, we were approached by a passionate wine aficionado with Wednesday mystery wine tasting. She offered 3 choices and an explanation of the wines we chose. They were a little too bold for me, but my friend enjoyed hers and promptly ordered a glass. A jewel outside of Laconia. A small restaurant with great character in a recovered old building. They don't have many tables and they pace the meals deliberately, so you'll want to make a reservation. Every item we ordered was fantastic. Great food - creative but not pretentious. One of the freshest salads I've ever enjoyed (Spinach, tomato, bacon and chèvre) and a truly delicious pizza (figs, prosciutto, spinach and goat cheese). You may also want to try the chickpea fries, the spicy and amazing cuke roll with lobster salad and the Duck Confit egg rolls. Could go on and on. This was my first visit but friends and family have been many times and say the food is ALWAYS this terrific. It's not a place for a quick run in for a meal and the size and their commitment to freshness restricts their flexibility for timing, but their take on "American Tapas" is a winner! read more

This was our second time eating at Tavern 27. It's a fun atmosphere and the food choices are tasty. The Haddock Bites Bowl was especially good, as well as the Sweet Potato Fries. One of us found the Crispy Baked Haddock a bit too strong tasting (spicy?) and the Grilled Chicken Skewers weren't super tender and rather plain overall (but there are several other sauce options). My father was very pleased with the presentation, how-to explanation, and flavor of the French pressed coffee. Salads were fresh and the Spicy Pork with Candied Onion Jam got a thumbs up, as well. My husband and I had never been to a tapas place, so we didn't know what to expect when we went the first time. Omg! One of the best meals we have ever had. We had two different steak plates that were insanely yummy and tender. The fried cheese was awesome too. The one thing I didn't like was the duck plate. I can't remember what it was called. I had never had duck, so I wanted to try it, but duck isn't my thing, I guess, but my husband liked it. Also, our waitress had a great personality. This is one of my very few without-hesitation 5 star reviews. We wanted to try this place out and, boy, did we! We had the grilled shrimp (T27 sauce had a little kick and great flavor, Ginger Asian sauce was really good and not over sweet; shrimp were good sized and so fresh); scotch eggs (just yummy); sirloin tips (basic, okay); baked haddock (a-freakin-mazing; best tartar sauce I've ever had); chicken skewers (amazing even with no sauce, so he could stay on diet). The waitstaff was just wonderful and accommodating. We especially liked Phil who was our main waiter. Live piano started about 8 and it really added to the atmosphere. Not too loud, so you could easily hold a conversation and it really added to the vibe. We will definitely be back! Oh, call for reservations! I find this place bi-polar. They beg you to patronize them especially during off times but then refuse to take a to-go order for two pizza's, a salad and a soup at 7pm on a Thursday evening. What restaurant seriously does that? Tell me it will be an hour, maybe even an hour and a half. I will likely drink two $40 glasses of wine while I wait. I've really tried to like this place but when I have made reservations they have been "over-booked" and late, the food hasn't been good except for the Pizza but...when you want Pizza, you can't get it. Found this place on Yelp, and without reading anything about it, decided to go. I'm so happy. This was a great experience. Love the tapas concept because I'm a grazer, and I like variety. We ordered 6: Scotch egg, duck confit rolls, fried shrimp, bowl of french fries with cheddar sauce, inside out poppers, and steak roulade. We also got pizza to take back to our hotel. Everything was amazing. They use a gluten free breading for the fried shrimp. I do not have a gluten issue, but I was very happy with this. It was nutty, crispy, spicy, and so tasty. The drinks were bomb, too! I got a jar of sangrita. It was huge, and well made. If you're in the area, I highly recommend stopping in. The staff if friendly and well-informed. I wish we lived closer. What a cute place! Be careful not to drive by, it looks just like all of the houses on the road. When we went inside we weren't sure if they were open, so we walked in and all the servers were very friendly and welcoming. I like their smaller portions, not too small like some tapas places, but enough if you order a few plates. I am vegan and they were vegan friendly. I had the chickpea fries. They were rather tasty. My hubby had the calamari he was very happy with it. They have a beautiful piano that looks like they have live music at night. There is a bar built around it so people can sit right at the piano. After driving by, and noticing, Tavern 27 on our way from Gilmanton to a theater production in Meredith this summer, we decided to try this Tapas restaurant before the summer was out. We did, and were delightfully surprised by the original menu, delicious food, and the totality of the dining experience that we encountered. The only negative was a somewhat loud and grumpy customer at a table near to us and that certainly was not their waiter's or the restaurant's fault. He was just a short-tempered and rude person. Our waiter, (the same waiter who had to deal with the rude customer) was very helpful explaining what the Tapas experience was all about and he, plus the young woman who helped with our drink and food delivery orders subsequently, were both very helpful, polite and friendly. What a hidden gem this place is. We were passing through Laconia on our way home and decided to give this tavern a try. What a fun idea to select several dishes to share. The food and drinks were delicious and our favorites were the Powerhouse salad, cauliflower ju ju, grilled chicken skewers, and the smoked brisket on homemade sourdough toast. They start you out with homemade chips and a bean dip that was fantastic. We came in very hungry and left satisfied and stuffed. The part we loved most was they bring you out a few dishes at a time and it was so relaxing and enjoyable to eat a little and them sit back and socialize while you wait for your next fee dishes. I notice that a lot of people had positive experiences here, but ours was eerily similar to the other folks who left negative reviews. Right off the bat, we had a reservation, and were seated a full HOUR later. Adding insult to injury, we could clearly see a whole room full of empty tables. Somewhere around the half hour mark it might've made sense to push two smaller tables together to accomodate us. We waited at the bar where it took 20 minutes to get one drink order from the bartender (who was very sweet, albeit overwhelmed.) By the time we got to our table our bill was already at 2 rounds of drinks x 8 people, and there was no acknowledgement. (Note to Management: you'd be surprised how far one "Folks, this round is on the house" can go to take the edge off a bad situation.) We ordered food at the bar so that it would be ready by the time we sat down, but that turned out to be wishful thinking. We were also told that they were out of pizza (a full 1/3 of the menu) and that they "had to check" on the scallops and chick pea fries. We ordered them and they never showed up, so I'm going to assume they had run out. The food was fine. I was wholly unimpressed, but some folks in my party enjoyed it, hence the 2 stars. The service was split between a generally detached woman and an eager teen having a rough night. Orders were forgotten, food and implements were dropped on the floor, and the poor kid got reamed out by the manager (Another Note to Management: I've never worked in the service industry, and even I know that you don't do that shit in earshot of the customers.) In the end it was like watching a really terrible movie- at the very least we could marvel at the ineptitude and have a good story to tell later. read more

Had read good reviews and decided to try it. Based on the reviews we made a reservation but didn't really need it. It is probably busier during high season. It was a little tricky to find along the dark road but the gps helped. It is in an old house and has a lot of charm. We were initially the only ones there but others came later. They have a lot of high tables which I couldn't do due to a leg injury but they seated us at a regular table. There were a few rooms and also a piano bar. We were there on a Sunday so no music but would be fun to sit at the piano bar. The menu has a lot of options with something for everyone. It is coded to indicate if the dish is gluten free, vegan, or vegetarian which is helpful. The waiter explained that they serve "American tapas" meaning they are a larger size than regular tapas places. We both started with the clam chowder which was very good. One dish we split was the scallops (2) on a potato wafer and they were cooked perfectly and very tasty. We had the la suina-a take on the Cuban sandwich-it was very good. We also had the crispy crab cakes (4) with remoulade which were also very good. My friend had the stuffed dates and really liked them. It was really a great dinner. We wanted to go back on Monday but they were closed. It was Halloween season and they had a bowl of candy as well as pumpkins outside carved to say Tavern27. Prices are reasonable (most between $8-12.00). If I lived in the area, would be going there often. read more

I wanted to jump up from my chair and do a "hills are alive twirl" during dinner! This wonderful Tapas restaurant is located a few miles from The Ballard Inn where we stayed while in Meredith, NH. The menu is creative, fun-filled and features many varieties of gluten free tapas. Service is attentive and the owner, a former Golf Pro, is friendly and easy-going. All in our group were happy with the wine, cocktails and draft beer offerings. Here is a run down of what our gang of four ordered and shared: (Complimentary) Sweet Potato Chips and Bean Dip. Let me start off by saying this would get 4 stars for just the food. The only reason it drops down is because the efficiency and service could use some work. We made reservations, but were a little early. While I can understand not being able to get a table early, it took a very long time just to get a drink. This set the pace for the evening. While the servers were very sweet and nice, they were a little inattentive and not on top of everything. Everything took a long time--to order, to get water, to get our food. Other patrons made the same comments and had similar frustrations. Putting that aside for a moment, the food was quite good. An American version of tapas with some creative dishes, some a little more run of the mill. Everything was very tasty and you could tell that the ingredients were very fresh. While we had to ask for the white bean dip and chips that are their version of bread or chips & salsa, even the dip was delicious. There are a lot of fried items, which we don't love but did indulge a little. The pizza was nice, the inside out poppers were a nice classy version of a bar favorite, The steak roulade was decent, but could have been more flavorful. We also got the Roundhouse Bocadillo, which I liked but my husband didn't love. Overall, good food and the charcoal filtered water was a nice "fun factor". On our way out, the owner stopped us and asked us about the service. Since we had just waited about 20 minutes to get our check, we were honest and said it was slow, but the food was good and the servers were nice. He then proceeded to blame the 2 servers and say he needed to get rid of them. To me, this is a cop out. He's the owner. When I went to the restroom, and at other points, he was chatting it up, sitting at the bar, leaning against a wall, etc. He could have been helping out, but he wasn't. Also, as the owner, he should be setting up systems and processes that work best in the three-room space. The ultimate responsibility falls on him and he should not be blaming his servers. A good boss will say, "I'm so sorry, we need to take a look on how we can do things better."...not "I need to fire them". Talk about awkward. Oh well, the food was good. read more
