In my 30 years of existing on this planet, I have never, in my entire life, experienced service so terrible. THE ONLY REASON I gave this place two stars is because when we finally got our food it was absolutely amazing. Also because they offer a gluten-free menu. We got there at 730 and didn't leave until 920. And probably 40 minutes of that time was time spent actually eating our meal. The rest of the time was spent being ignored and waiting for food. Place seems to have tons of 5 star reviews on Yelp, so I hope to god they were just having an off night. Unfortunately for them, they decided to have the worst night of their life on the day my girlfriend tried to take me out for a nice dinner on my birthday. Worst birthday dinner ever. read more

We had a great experience our first time here. We were attending a show at the Bank of NH Pavillion so we booked a 5:30 reservation. The place was relatively empty when we got there, but they were turning people away who didn't have reservations. I think the food takes so long for them to prepare that they can't turn tables quickly, so they lean toward the conservative in terms of booking. We were seated at a high-top in the corner by the door, which wasn't super comfy and the chairs and table were a bit tippy on the uneven floor. However, the excellent, attentive service more than made up for the seating! Our food was delicious: the roasted cauliflower, chickpea fries, shrimp and tenderloin. All were prepared perfectly and accompanied by delicious sauces. The service is NOT FAST, so don't go if you're in a big hurry - give yourself 1.5 hours to dine. I don't recommend it for kids unless they are older and patient because there is quite a wait for the first and all courses, which are served as they are prepared. We made it to our show with no issues and will definitely return when we're in the area. read more

My wife and I are up in Laconia on our honeymoon right now. My family has lived up here for years but every time I come up to visit, we normally stay at home on the lake and grill, etc. So, I was excited to come up alone, just the two of us, and go out for some meals. We saw all the great reviews for Tavern 27 on Yelp and were really excited to try it out. On arrival, we loved the look of the place - an old house turned into a really nice little restaurant. We were so impressed! Stephanie greeted us at the door and was extremely friendly. Needless to say, we looked forward to our meal. We orderd about 4 or 5 things off of the very appealing tapas menu, but were underwhelmed by the food. The brussels sprouts were soggy and sort of bitter; definitely boiled. The calamari had a nice little kick to it but after a few bites, it was just too much of a kick - the spice flavor wouldn't leave your mouth. The steak skewers were very very delicious, however. What irked me the most about our experience at this restaurant was something that happened toward the end of our visit. After a few small plates, we were still feeling hungry so we decided to order a bowl of their poppers, which looked pretty good. After about 20-30 minutes, my wife asked the waitress if she knew when they'd be coming up since it'd been awhile. She went to check on them and returned to us to let us know that we "didn't order them." She said this to us in a pretty condescending way and explained that she didn't have it on her notepad and it wasn't in the kitchen's notes so nope, we didn't order them. Sort of shocked, we just asked for the check. Overall, the waitstaff seemed very nice, but there were only two women to staff the entire restaurant. Though small, it did get very busy so two people just didn't seem like enough and obviously lead to them feeling overwhelmed and a little snarky. The good: Great ambience. Just a wonderful, welcoming, cozy space to be. Helpful and polite waiter*. The OK: The food was hit or miss. The calamari was great and came with excellent dips, the green beans were just green beans. No special effort seemed to have been made here. The scallops were very good. The steak roulade was tough and bland. The sirloin pinchos were also tough, and although better than the roulade, also a bit bland. *Politics: The waiter should realize that ridiculing Trump supporters to his buddies at the bar might be in earshot of paying customers who may possibly not share his beliefs. I'm perhaps one of the few who can say I've had the full Tavern 27 experience - once for the restaurant, and once for the golf. Food - Some of the best in the Lake Winni area I can only assume. This is a high class place with a very reasonably priced menu. Our bill for two came to about $50, and that included two alcoholic beverages and two coffees. The flatbread pizza we had, "Go Figure," was sensational. Figs, spinach, and feta cheese on a crispy crust, very delectable. The chickpea fries (i.e. deep fried logs of hummus) were also an excellent choice. The steak roulade was a slight weakness; frankly, it was little more than steak with mashed potatoes and balsamic on it. Coffee service was amazing - Espresso is made right in front of you with a portable press, and coffee is served in a personal French press with a side of the thickest cream I've ever seen. Very regal indeed. ... Golf - It's fun for what it is. A little 9-hole pitch-and-putt par-3 with no holes longer than 120 yards or so. Ray the owner just loves golf, so he put one in the backyard of his restaurant. And at $9 a person, it's hard not to enjoy yourself. Tavern 27 is definitely worth a visit if you're in the area. We're so lucky to have this amazing restaurant in the Lakes Region! Each time I go, I discover a fantastic new dish - last night, it was the brussel sprouts with horseradish and bacon. The Cloud 9 shrimp were great, as usual. Can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Love the wine selection, always a great bottle at the right price. The owners are great people and Bernese mountain dog lovers, which only adds to the appeal of Tavern 27! Those complaining about the service don't get it. This is not a fast food joint or chain restaurant, it's a place to enjoy one of the best dining experiences you'll have, anywhere. read more

My friends and I often travel up to NH for the lakes or mountains. Whenever we do we always make it a point to stop in at Tavern 27. The management is amazing, always welcoming! Even met me outside my car with an umbrella during a thunderstorm. I love the fact that their menu is gluten free! It really gives options to those of my friends who cannot eat wheat. I highly recommend the sweet potato fries, splurge and get the cheese sauce on the side..totally worth it! Their produce is always fresh and seasonal, another thing I absolutely love. Amazing service- we got here in the rain and we were greeted by an umbrella-toting hostess at our car! When we got inside the restaurant, it was as much fun to look around as it was to look at the menu. It felt like being in someone's house - someone who's house has lots of history, that is. We were served bottled water at our table that was specially filtered (the bottle was pretty too). The homemade sangria was fantastic. We all ordered a variety of tapas which were all delicious. The variety is incredible, there is something for everybody. I ordered the greenhouse salad, the inside-out poppers and the chicken skewers. We also had the clam chowder, the chickpea fries and the artichoke bites. Raining and was greeted by a sweet woman with a rainbow umbrella!? Never had that happen to me before. It's like going to Grandpa's house if Grandpa loves golf, pool, dice and has an odd sense of humor. Food is some of the most creative I've seen in this area. Small plates are a little bigger than most tapas I've had elsewhere but all were good. They start you with home made sweet potato chips and a plain white bean dip. I then went with the Superfood salad. It is full of fresh veggies, dried gogi berries and well seasoned quinoa. If I would have added egg or cheese probally would have been even better but I was trying to eat something healthy. The cucumber rolls were unique and the chickpea fritters were adorable. Flourless chocolate cake was an amazing warm dark chocolate treat. Drinks are made from only naturally flavored alcohols (I challenged the Van Gogh and got a really good response), several are infused there. Um, fancy magnetic field filtered water, huh? Love it. Arrived after a long trip from CT and we were warmly welcomed by the owner. Sat down to complimentary sweet potato chips and fresh made bean dip. The atmosphere is homey and welcoming. The Far East is an amazing martini...get it!! The balsamic dressing on the salad is freshly made and its a great little pre meal salad. We had the pepper poppers...the garlic is amazing if you like garlic...the steak wrapped with mashed potato, which was great but next time I would ask for more yummy balsamic on the side. Lastly we had the crab cakes which were fresh tasting and so good. For dessert we had the raved about bread pudding, but needed some extra whipped cream (maybe ice cream!!!) because the creaminess makes it extra yummy. Can't wait to come back! Next time we will try the duck confit and the Brussels. Go with more people so you can try more tapas...they are so filling and big so for the two of us we could only eat 3 total. read more

I love walking in to see the old walls, old bar, the mix mashed décor... it's just beautiful. The wait staff are so educated and helpful, friendly and professional - even though as one yelper hysterically pointed out, some of the tree hugger salt box advocates of everything under the sun that offends them tend to come here and demand absurdities. I love this restaurant and the owner, who reminds me of a fun loving Captain Ron - just makes this place one of my FAVORITES of all time. When I want comfort food, something completely fresh and out of the norm - I come here. I love the changing of the menu, the delicious farm to table faire - the mood set by the rooms nostalgic ambiance. I LOVE THIS PLACE. The clam chowder is thick and full of flavor, I could eat 10 bowls and still want more, the balance of all the flavors and the rich buttery clams, just spins your head around with every bite. Inside out poppers, I could again eat these by the plate full - they are a bit spicy but blended with the cheese, is purely divine. Duck confit rolls are so flavorful and not gamey - execution is really attentive as to not overcook the plate. The scotch egg is a very big comfort, the sausage coating around it is seasoned well and could be used for many things, as it's just so versatile but pairs so well with the creamy egg. The forager pizza was very rustic and earthy - the farmed mushrooms, manchego and sweet caramelized onions were such a great combination!! I had a rhubarb margarita when there and it was really yummy, the drinks are always changing - and the drunken Shirley or sangarita are sooo beyond expectations!! I would give this place 10 stars if I could, they have a great attention to detail and their customers - they go above and beyond to exceed expections, they are never just met... and they have to tolerate some of the worst personalities I have ever had to overhear!!! I felt bad for our server, as the yuppy couple next to us were dressed as if they were stepping out of their Gap ad to break for fine French cuisine and their nutritionist came with them to warn of everything including how to breathe, so they got the best particles... I mean talk about stuffy consumer driven existence! Girl deserved a sangarita, cause I wanted to go over there and tell here where to shove her stiletto heel but refrained as "not my circus, not my monkeys" played in my head haha and then on the other hand you have the dirty hippies who don't believe in bathing as it would kill their chi, and so they come in expecting to perform a ritual for their lettuce and water while requesting a full reporting on to the humane picking of their lettuce and that it was properly cleaned, do you have a video of this? There are a number of things to like about this place, not the least of which is the decor and the obvious style of this effective and delicious addition to Laconia. The cuisine is tapas based, with attention to presentation and flavor worthy of the effort placed in refurbishing the historic locale it inhabits. The ingredients are all impressively fresh, and the menu is extensive and diverse. This was good food. I especially enjoyed the forager rolls and the fried haddock bites. Impressive and delicious. Perhaps the most telling was the margarita pizza on flat bread. This was a simple recipe that looked delicious when i saw it delivered to another table and so we ordered it as well. The mozzarella, basil, and tomatoes were distinct and perfectly done. You could taste the execution. Lastly, the owner was very friendly and genuinely interested in who you were and whether you were happy. Plus, the story of how this great restaurant and 9 hole golf course came together (yes there is also a pretty good golf course attached) is an interesting one. bottom line, check this great place out--you won't regret it. read more

We arrived on a Saturday evening around 6:30pm and were able to get two seats by the bar. The rest of the evening was for reservations, so I recommended getting one if you are coming. Several groups were turned away without reservations. And there's a reason for them because this is big plate style tapas. We shared an insalata salad and chickpeas fries which was more than enough for two people. Appetizers were a complimentary plate of sweet potato chips and dip that were delectable. The ambience inside is low-lit and the organic menu wouldn't be a far cry from Manhattan, but the friendly staff and owner go out of their way for you to know you're definitely not in New York. We've gone here quite a few times with friends. It's the perfect place to share lots of different small plates. The food is delicious and the menu has lots of great variety. Their pizza is the best! And the drinks/bar is great. The owner Ray is very friendly and the staff helps with making menu selections. We always make a reservation as it's small and books up very quickly. This was a wonderful find for our trip to the lakes region. The restaurant is located inside an old house, so when you first drive up don't be alarmed--despite all appearances to the contrary, you are in the right place! We enjoyed ginger beer from the bar and a handful of small plates. My favorites: the chicken-wrapped dates and the fried haddock. My husband loved the artichoke bites. I love this place and I haven't even tried the great smelling food! My boyfriend and I went there for a drink and we will definitely go back every time we're in the area. The owner was sitting at his own bar, talking and laughing with his own people. If that doesn't tell me that this place is awesome, what does? The drink menu was amazing - they had fantastic looking martini's, a good wine list, and some nice micro brews. The bartender knew a lot about all of the drinks - she knew where the wine was from and what grapes were used and when we asked her about the martini's, she said she had to taste all of them in order to be more informed. First if you are reading this do yourself a favor and call for a reservation. We didn't have one and luckily we had the option to sit near the fireplace. We arrived at 7:45 and didn't leave until 9:45. The restaurant is a farmhouse and everything inside screams cozy. I unfortunately don't remember the 3 members of the staff we met but they all worked together to ensure we had a great experience. The food was amazing. We had the cheese and bread as well as artichoke and the steak with mashed potatoes. We usually go overboard with the tapas plates and this time we didn't. Everything was cooked well and tasted delicious. I've seen a few reviews on the amount of time the food took to come out of the kitchen. My honest opinion is farm to table and cooked to order food is not for everyone. We had our plates come one at a time and a little space between them and had zero complaints. This place by far is my favorite place in the lakes region. It's not an ordinary restaurant where you order your food and it all comes out at once. This is a tapas based meal where it's meant for sharing with your table. One meal comes out a time and each plate comes with 4 of each food item. We ended up getting 6 dishes, I would recommend the Haddock Bites, Duck Dumplings, Grilled shrimp with Maple Glaze and the Steak Skewers! Out of this world delicious! We found this gem when returning from a quick ski trip to Waterville Valley and it was the highlight of our getaway. We didn't have a reservation, but they had a empty table and immediately provided us the most amazing sweet potato chips. We joked with the staff about bagging and selling them. In return, they offered us a takeaway portion--a wonderful day after snack and remembrance of a lovely night. The service was friendly and efficient. The cocktails were yummy. The dishes we shared--brussels sprouts, duck dumplings, steak skewers, fried calamari--were all terrific. We even splurged on dessert--a scrumptious apple cake of sorts. Awesome find! We were looking for a place that was still open past 8:30 on a Friday night and this was about it. It had great reviews and sounded unique, but was wayyyy better than we expected. The owner, Phil, greeted us and as we did not have a reservation, 'created' a table for us in the bar with the live piano player. He asked us if we'd ever been there before and as we hadn't gave us the whole spiel about their "american tapas" (larger than your average tapas plates). Food was delicious, fresh, made to order and generous- as promised. My girlfriend has a few dietary restrictions and they didn't even have to modify menu items to accommodate her. Interesting and flavorful cocktails too, I'm a beer drinker but couldn't help trying out a couple of their concoctions. Service was fantastic, everyone waited on us, and no one passed by without noticing or asking if we needed something. The piano player Bob was a human jukebox...literally. Despite not having a reservation, they were still very accommodating. Even though we ended up being seated at the bar it was still a really nice night and all who waited on us were very kind. Not something I expected to find in this area, but so glad we did find it and were able to get in for dinner. A very wide variety on the menu and a great chance to sample a lot if you are dining with a group. Perfect for groups of 4 as most dishes are served in sizes of 4 or more. Tavern 27 is officially one of our favorite restuarants in the Lakes area after only one visit. The service (Joanne the bartender and Stephanie the waitress) was excellent, the food was excellent and timing between courses was perfect. The place is much nicer inside than it initially appears when you pull into the drive-way. We had an early Friday evening dinner which was made even more enjoyable by Dan on the piano. My wife and I shared four plates plus dessert. On top of the delicious complimentary white bean dip to start it was the perfect amount. Each dish was delicious and beautifully presented: the Superfood Salad was simple yet inventive with quinoa, fresh blueberries and dried goji berries. What made it truly outstanding was the impeccably fresh local mixed greens. The mixed sauteed mushroom on sour dough flat bread, the It's a Date with chicken and the Scotch Egg were all equally top-notch. The lemon mouse dessert was light and heavenly just as promised by Joanne. The location is easy to get to from Meredith and we're excited to have discovered this great new (to us) restaurant.
