We went here for happy hour last night and had a few beers along with a heaping plate of nachos. I have been coming here for years for lunch, and highly reccomend a cheesesteak sando. This is a "Philly" themed sports bar, so they offer the cheesesteak the proper way...with CheeseWiz. The beer is cold, and unhealthy food is delicious, so hits the spot for happy hour. What makes this a 4-star vs. a regular 3-star sports bar is the service. In the many times that I've been here, the service is always impecible. In fact, last night my ordered beers were brought to me within 2 minutes of my order each time. Why isn't this a 5-star? They removed the delicious potato salad from the menu. Great service, beer, food, selection of booze, and spot to watch football. Many TVs and your sports are almost guaranteed to be on. If not, just ask! The staff is super friendly and will get you to come back time after time. The locals are fantastic, friendly and attractive. Bring your single friends. I came here for St. Patty's day. I was expecting it to be super packed and although I got there at midnight I was still able to get a booth. The food was good, the vibe was cool. We got a Groupon "Now " Deal and ended up going there for lunch. Not too crowded fast service and good food. Tons on TVs so I made a mental note to come back for Sunday football. I ordered the Opie Grilled cheese which is a double-decker sandwich with avocado and tomato on duper yummy sourdough bread, My husband ordered the Pretzel Club (SOOOOO GOOOOODDDD). Great service by the waitress who was not annoyed at all when I told her they had messed up my order (brought out the Opie Burger instead) She brought my grilled cheese out super quickly! Tavern on Main is a great place to watch a hockey game, eat good food, drink beer, and have a good time. The ambiance is very casual, and everybody in the place is having a good time. Plus, the staff is very accommodating, friendly, and the service is on point. I recommend ordering the Trojan Burger- very tasty and different from your normal burger. It comes with one of the usual selection of bar side dishes, too. Their beer comes in either pints or a gigantic mug for around $8 depending on what beer you get. Go with the gigantic mug- it's cost-effective and you build up your arm strength with every gulp. Three words to best describe Tavern on Main: Lively, Local, Quality. read more

I've been here three times now. The first time, I ordered a Cobb salad. The salad had meat on top. Below the meat, the salad was old, wilted and red colored salad. Second time things were OK. The crowd jewel and premier happy hour spot in all of el segundo in my book. The tavern gives me an old school Philadelphia vibe. This place really is the spot to be for Sunday football or all the happening sports events. As I previously stated there happy hour is second to none 5 for 5 if I'm not mistaken until 7 you can't beat that!! They have a full array menu with different types of nibbles and plates all very good in my taste buds. The staff makes for a great time and serve you with a smile and seem to enjoy there atmosphere they create. Old school east coast vibes flowing through there. I had a veggie burger here and it was cooked dry. I've never had a dry veggie burger before, so that was interesting. The fries were good though- lol. One big con for me, is the smoker's lounge at the front of the establishment. I didn't like being smacked in the face by smoke right before eating, especially as a non-smoker. This place was ok. Just an average sports bar kind of place. Extremely loud to the point that other people were trying to shut the other people up because they were so loud. At times it smelled really bad, lots of dudes in here, very lid, passing gas being obnoxiously drunk. +Our sever was pretty drunk and she kept forgetting our order and getting it all mixed up. 3 stars because the food options for vegans/vegetarians as not bad, pretty surprised. A patron had a parrot in the bar. We felt like pirates. Ok, seriously how cute is this place. It's divey in the way you'd imagine a come-to-life Regal Beagle would be. At about 4pm my co-workers and I grabbed a table at The Tavern on Main. The happy menu hour prices: Dollar off of all liquor. Pints were 4 bucks, and if you wanted to go for it and get a pitcher-like glass (and literaly, it is a pitcher sized glass) it was only 5 bucks. You can't beat that with a bat! The food here: A-ma-zingggg. Seriously. My group ordered Mozzerella sticks, fries, onion rings, nachos and BBQ buffalo wings (so basically the entire appetizer menu). Everything came out hot, crisp and delicious. We kept ordering more rounds of fries which came out in large bowls, and only lasted seconds once we were served. I also ordered a Bruin Burger: Swiss, guacamole, and bacon with a side of Mac and Cheese. Ummmm yeahhhhh the Mac and Cheese I could probably eat an entire pot full. The staff was attentive for our large group. The only complaint is that in the heat of the day, it was quite warm in there....Nothing a few Stellas can't fix! Note: Daytime review. The Tavern is seriously the local El Segundo burger joint at its best. Not only is this place the middle ground meet-up location for Bruins/Trojans, the food and atmosphere made me clap after I ate. First off, the drinks are huge. For $2, I got a drink that was bigger than my face. Second, there are multiple television screens on every wall--as many as 5 per wall!! I got the Tavern Burger and it was huge and utterly scrumptious. The bread somehow maintained its crunchy, soft, flakey, doughy, fluffy texture all at the same time! The 8 oz. beef patty was hot and tasty and together the beef and bread alone made the burger. I can honestly say this was the best cheeseburger I have ever had in my entire life. I could've finished the whole thing (huge as it was) but I saved it for dinner as per the law of diminishing returns. The french fries were fresh, hot, and interesting like an exotic female you have to have--or just like a cross between sweet potato and regular fries. The pickle was fresh, crunchy, as pickles should be! The whole meal was splendidly satisfying and the Trojan and I (Bruin) ate there happily in silence watching our separate TV's--as it should be. read more

Let me first say that I LOVE this bar. LOVE. There is nothing better than walking into this place on a Saturday or Sunday between 11am-4pm. Its beachy, friendly, cheap and has great bar food. Their pulled pork nachos specifically. Now, to the reason I felt compelled to review this place. I went on an random Thursday night after a great dinner at B.A.D. Sushi just a few blocks away. My friend wanted a few drinks and I suggested this place. Saying it had a 'locals only' vibe is an understatement. I downright felt unwelcome by everyone. It started with the locals who barely budged to get out of the way for my attractive female friend. Once inside, the horrid sounds of obviously terrible karaoke. Turns out, that was the band for the night. Imagine watching the wedding singer, but instead of Adam Sandler's character singing, it was the Boy George wanna be. And not awesome 80s tunes....terrible one hit wonders from the 90s and just to be ironic...some daft punk. The bartender barely acknowledged us despite the bar being pretty empty. After getting our two cheap drinks, we tried to find a place to sit outside the sound range of the crap music. Which was fruitless. We sat in a seat near the front door. After finishing our first round, we decided on getting a second. As I started to stand up to go to the bar, my friend told me we could just ask a waitress to come over. 20 minutes later (it became an epic quest to get their attention) we were met by waitress who treated us like trash and had to be flagged down several times. When we finally conceded defeat, we waved her over (4 times mind you) and asked for our check. She said okay and within a few seconds had brought us another round. To which I replied "I asked for the check." I was given a rude look and then she stormed off and made some loud comment to her waitress friend. I left a $0 tip. I NEVER EVER DO THAT. It has easily been years since. So despite my love for this place on a lazy weekend, I cannot stress how much you should stay away during "locals" time. I love, love this place. They have great music (I love the 90's), and giant beers! I wish they carried a few Hefe's but I can manage with what they have. The service is great, I have never felt wanting to order. The food is good, not great (just burgers and sandwiches)- try the Veg out burger. Cons: parking, no happy hour. went here too late on a saturday night. peak people-watching hours, proved amusing yet you can tell that this is the type of place where the left-over/behind women come to rope some poor slob into going home with them (**major bonus for the aged, leathery locals. come here, it'll happen**). our server was smartly dressed for the 4th grade with her muffin-topped, micro-mini clad, tramp-stamped lower torso. for a woman that old, the side ponytails were a nice touch, too. couldn't manage to bring a particular drink to our table for over 20 min. even after our food arrived, it made us all marvel about how cooked food can arrive before a drink comes out of a beverage gun. the 2 stars are for the food. decent late-night bar food. i'll give them that. again, incredible people watching! seeing all the chicks tugging at and pulling up their tube tops, wearing skirts so short you could see their udders as they glommed onto random beer-goggled "contestants" reminded me why i left chicago. thanks for the memories! read more

My buddy just moved to the El Segundo area so after reading a few reviews on Yelp we decided to give this joint a shot. It's definitely a "locals" hangout and a bit dive-ish (which I like). A lot of guys 45-50 (likely divorced) were bellied up at the bar, gulping down beers, watching the game and day dreaming about better days. There was plenty of seating, we sat down and ordered two HUGE and ice-cold beers and asked the bartender what she recommended as far as appetizers. She suggested the Irish Nachos and Mozzarella Sticks. When the Irish Nachos arrived - it was basically a plate of Ruffles covered in cheese, chives, tomatoes and sour cream. Really? Ruffles? WTF. This was a definite first for me. I've seen potato wedges, potato skins, etc. but never "Ruffles" disguised as Irish Nachos. I felt like I was back in 9th grade, eating some concoction I whipped up to cure the munchies after smoking some jank weed I pinched out of my brothers stash. I was really blown away (but somewhat entertained as well). The Mozzarella sticks were basically frozen and heated to order. They tasted OK, much better than the soggy Ruffles Nachos and the marina sauce that accompanied them was actually quite good. The bartender was super friendly and engaging. She checked on us often and even brought over a little tray leftover holiday cookies for us to snack on. Like I said, everybody seems to know everybody in this place, which makes it feel quite comfortable. For that, I give it a BIG 3 stars. The guy next to me ordered a Double-Cheeseburger and it looked pretty tasty. Perhaps something off the main menu would have pushed them over-the-edge for a 4 star rating. Who knows. My friends live in the area and frequent this bar and I tagged along a few times. Every now and then they have theme nights and I went to the 80's theme the other night. I was actually surprised at how many people showed up in 80's gear. They had a good dj and cleared an area for dancing. I have to say that it is the quintessential local's bar. You'll run into someone you know or seen before without a doubt. It's a great place to hang out and have a drink with friends. Not too loud so you can still have a conversation and the drinks aren't watered down. They also have a really good menu for a bar...especially when it's late-night and you're drunk. This is of course your typical corner locals bar which is comprised of "The regulars", "The Pre-game crowd', the warm up to "Girls night out" etc...One thing that is NOT guarantee'd is the atmosphere. Some nights the bar is dead and other nights you really can't find a spot to stand without getting bumped into. They have a great cocktail menu with friendly staff and a great beer selection which by the way if your a beer drinker definitely try the "Monster Mug" of your favorite ale...its sure NOT to disappoint! read more

I think what did it for me though is that they had a selection of vegan/vegetarian items on their menu. This place disappoints me. The atmosphere is the way I like it, chill and conducive to conversation over drinks and food. The staff are friendly for the most part. And the food is not so bad, and for a good price. But how is it that the last 2 times I get food poisoning happen just after having lunch at this place?!? The first time could have been coincidental (I ate their meatloaf parmigiana sandwich), but the second time was definitely from their food. After eating half of a caprese chicken sandwich, I found that part of the chicken was uncooked...literally! The inside of it was raw, and looked like chicken that had thawed after being frozen. Luckily, I didn't eat too much of the raw chicken, but what followed was a couple days of headache, nausea, stomach ache, and fatigue (i.e., Salmonella poisoning). If there are any doubts about my claims, I have pictures of the sandwich that I can share. read more

Listen, the waitress was nice. The food was fine. We went there to watch the UFC fights. Figured it would be a little more low key than manhattan. We got there early to get a table and there were only two we could choose from. The rest were reserved. It said you had to have parties of 6 or more to reserve but there were plenty of tables reserves for just four. Ok whatever. We got a table and bought food and drinks for 3 and a half hours. It got crowded. People Were using our table to set drinks down on which is fine. But the owner or someone asked if some others could put their food on our table and they also made my husband move to set up a speaker during the title fight. Can't you just wait five minutes? And if you want to use our table as a patron, sure, but if you are the owner maybe throw in one free beer as good will. I don't know. We spent good money in three and a half hours. Anyway. My take. A casual neighborhood bar & restaurant with good food, bar & jukebox. Extensive burger menu available with beef, chicken or veggie patty to choose from. Everthing was fresh and tasty. Their home made macaroni & cheese was excellent! The juke box was fantastic since I love the 70's & 80's hard rock selections like Judas Priest & Ozzy. As a long time El Segundo resident, I'm surprised at the negative comments posted. Well, each to their own. My husband and I have been frequenting this establishment for years now. We LOVE the food. Honestly I think it's some of the best in 'gundo. We also love the hometown Mayberry feel of the place- kind of our personal "Cheers" (where everybody knows your name.) We come to the Tavern often on a Sunday, because a)its local and b) they have lots of football. The food is always decent and the staff friendly. But the five stars I'm giving today is for the mini cupcakes. They Rock!!! I love bar food, but love to finish with something sweet and these are perfect. Our server told us the flavors change often, yesterday they had, oreo cookies and cream, peanut butter-banana-choc chip, pumpkin spice and apple pie. Amazing! read more

I come to the Tavern to watch UCLA games with the South Bay Bruins alumni group. They reserve the room on the side, and it's a great place for a large group to watch a sporting event. They have TV's everywhere, and the food, alcohol and service are all decent. As other reviewers have said, the food isn't' anything "write home about," but it's consistently solid and they have a large selection. The prices are also very reasonable. The location is awesome, right in the heart of El Segundo's Main Street. Overall, The Tavern on Main is a solid place to watch a game, grab a pub dinner, or just have drinks with friends. The ambiance is casual and friendly. Will keep coming back. read more
