A few days ago, I went for Happy Hour at Tavern on Main. Great experience. From 4-6pm and 9p-close they have Happy Hour every day. I was unsure which beer I wanted, so I asked if I could have a taste of one that I was intrigued about, my waiter Andrew, said...for sure! And he got me a taste...I was not crazy about my first choice, so I asked if it was possible to get a second taste and he said, yes....as many as you want.... Nice attitude and customer service. I ended up choosing the second beer, which I loved, it was a Fiddlehead IPA. For food I got the crab cakes and the boneless wings...both were good, but the crab cakes were delicious.. Definitely getting those next time...there were three small pieces but they were 50% off....so good deal. I got the red curry dip for my wings and that was a good choice too...lots of wings... So to start, this is a pretty popular spot. And the waitresses and staff are great! When you walk in the hostess stand is to your left and bar is in the center with a huge wrap around bar with plenty of space. The darker aesthetics give this place a truly cozy feel. We ordered the buffalo Cauliflower sandwich and the Red Pepper Ceaser with grilled chicken. Our food took a little longer but there was a party of 7 that had just ordered and a part of 5 that was seated right before us so we were still impressed. The Buffalo cauliflower sandwich is actually FANTASTIC! The Buffalo is a great texture and the entire sandwich is perfect. The only con was that the truffle fries that my friend subbed for her side were cold and overly greasy when they first arrived. They were sopped and you can see they sprayed they fries with the truffle oil when they were cooked and that they had been sitting too long. :/ For the Ceaser salad- the chicken didn't have any seasoning, it was straight grilled. I was take it or leave it. The Ceaser was good but I do wishe they had replaced the garlic toast side with garlic croutons. The toast had actually been forgotten about so I had to ask for it and when it came out, It is a little more than lack luster. read more

Quaint tavern/restaurant in Wakefield, not far from URI. The place was cozy and the staff was very attentive and friendly. We started with the boneless wings with sweet, spicy chili sauce. I think, hands down, the best boneless wings I've ever eaten. They were crispy and sauced perfectly. (leftovers in a wrap the next day were awesome!) Country Fried chicken sandwich, Burger & Fries and Grilled Pesto Chicken sandwich were all excellent. We will definitely be coming back again, when at URI. read more

Stopped in on a Sunday night for a last minute dinner. It has a friendly, clean, and cozy environment. Our waiter was great. Looked for a good "appy hour" in South County--hit this one. Sat at the bar--(very nice bar) Place was suspiciously slow at 4:30 on a Thursday. (We know why now!) Bartender was very nice-good service. Excited because the price point for the apps was decent. The food was not. What a shame. From the gnocchi's, crab cakes, mussels, runny spinach dip, and especially the "boneless wings" (sent back--worse than MacDonald's chicken nuggets!) the food was waaaay sub par. Clean, good ambiance tavern with some parking. I stopped in for lunch and had the crab cakes (yum!) didn't disappoint.. it had corn and some purple and creamy sauce on it... 3pcs decent for the price as some places give you 2 small pieces for $16. The real enjoyment for me was the seafood chowder... perfectly seasoned, hot, not overly creamy and actually had seafood in it (shrimp, clams, bacon, potatoes) vs when you get mostly potatoes and broth with a sprinkle of seafood meat... it's Prbly the best seafood chowder I had in terms of taste profile ($7 btw). I had a side salad which is just the basic ($5 for this) which I Prbly could've done without but the green were fresh, of quality, not wilted and it had red onion, cukes and tomatoes. Also had a lemonade which tasted like it was fresh squeezed... needed more lemon and sugar as it was more on the watery side. Would definitely come again for crab cakes and chowder!! Holy moly! So so good. The presentations from our appetizer to our entrees were 5-star. Every bite was delicious. The half-portion gnocchi pesto and shrimp was enough for two meals. Don't let the big bar deter you if you are looking for a date-night spot. Booths are big and set apart from other tables to feel intimate and cozy. read more

We have been here several times now. Last night I had the lobster lettuce wraps, my fav. Hubby had lobster roll. He thought it was heavy on the mayo, I didn't feel the same about my dish. Tater tots and fries on point. Staff was friendly and attentive. I had the pepper infused tequila cocktail. Love the bite it has. Solid cocktail selection. Get there early (by 530) or be prepared to wait. Large bar if you can scoop up a seat. Burgers look good but we haven't tried. They also offer a variety of sausage dishes Definitely recommend, worth a visit , or a drive. read more

I went on a Thursday when they have half priced oven baked pastas so I tried the Penne and House-Made Italian Sausage - it was DELICIOUS. We did not have to wait long for our food as it was served quickly after we ordered. The Tater Tots came highly recommended and they lived up to the hype - the dipping sauces were excellent. I didn't have a chance to try a cocktail this trip but the options on the cocktail menu looked unique and I'm looking forward to trying one on my next trip. We really enjoyed our meal here. There is a great atmosphere and easy parking with their own lot. And it's a great deal! Kids meals are large and only $5. Also really appreciate a choice of sides, so we're not stuck with fries. Our boys both devoured their cheeseburgers and fresh fruit side. On Sunday-Thursday through 6pm, they had half priced appetizers - great deal, especially given the very large portions. We skipped entrees and just ordered a bunch of apps. The smoked salmon flatbread and the lobster salad lettuce roll up were the clear favorites. The curry meatballs and boneless chicken wings (kids favorite, post-burger) were also excellent. The cheese platter was fine, but nothing special, and was the only app that wasn't supersized. Only one suggestion for the restaurant - the tables are all very high top level, but the "high"chairs they provide are normal sized. Our little one was way too far down, and since she doesn't feed herself easily her, we had to stretch down to feed her (or see her). Would suggest they get some of those high chairs that clip securely on the tables. Wish we were local - this would be a definite local favorite. read more

Service is so slow I'll never go there again. This has happened each time. 2 drinks took almost half an hour, and there were only 4 people at bar. Bartender was doing housekeeping and chatting instead of attending to guests. Server inattentive. Lots of talking among the workers instead of working. Slow slow slow in general. From the moment I walked into Tavern on Main, I felt a New England hometown vibe. It was 6:30 pm and very busy with locals. Families, teenagers, couples, and really casual and relaxing. I wanted a salad but I always go for chicken and waffles when it's offered for dinner! Sausage gravy, fried chicken breast, cheesy tater tots and maple syrup. It's tough to keep the waffle light and crispy when there's a gravy and chicken on top of it but it totally fulfilled my craving. The tots were too much for me, next time I'm getting fruit instead. My dinner buddy couldn't decide between the salmon roll or the sausage plate. Our server recommended the sausage because it was made in-house. It was excellent. However, it's a lot of food with potatoes and brussel sprouts. While this plate did not come with maple syrup, the pork belly was delicious with my leftover syrup. Really friendly and caring staff. My bf and l sat at the bar and noticed a lot of little things done just right: fresh fruit and herbs for the cocktails, copper shakers to keep the liquid colder (it makes a big difference, and it's the first time I've seen them outside NYC), got a glimpse into the kitchen and the area looked spotless clean. The manager (Anthony?) does a good job keeping the staff equipped with the best stuff to serve the customers. Onto the food. We went in on sausage Sunday. I got an andouille sausage sandwich with cheese tater tots for $7 (!!). The owner makes the sausage himself, and the flavor is intense and spicy, on par with those I've had in Paris. It pairs nicely with the mustard and sweet, crunchy pickled onions and peppers. The cheesy tater tots are indulgent, though I did wish there was some sort of dipping sauce that came with them. My bf got the country chicken sandwich. The chicken was lightly breaded and well seasoned, on a crisp, toasty Hawaiian buns, with delicious homemade coleslaw. We are both picky and find coleslaw in most places inedible, but this place goes light on the mayo, skips the purple cabbage, and puts out a nice, fresh slaw that's just the right flavor. Website and Google says they close at 12am. Unknowingly, two members of our group called the restaurant separately to ask what time the kitchen closes tonight- one person was told 8:30/9pm, the other person was told 10:30pm. When we realized this, we called one more time to confirm before driving there, this time we were told the kitchen closed at 11pm tonight. We arrived at the restaurant at 9:30pm, all of the doors to the restaurant were locked. There was a full bar of people and parties still sitting at tables. As we were outside, the bartender was just staring at me through the window. Very poor customer service, very poor communication. I would not bother going here because who knows, they'll probably be closed. read more

First visit and it proved delicious. Started with the Scottish eggs that were outstanding. A perfectly boiled egg inside sausage and then breaded and deep-fried served with an aioli sauce they had just the right amount of heat. We enjoyed the Mexican shepherds pie and Bratwurst sandwich. Both had a pleasant presentation with attention to details. The Brat was perfectly done and the whole grain mustard on it was the right style and the three cheese tater tots were a good choice. I have had a gift certificate here for a long time and my knee doctor is right down the street. So Mike and I went after my appointment and ordered from the car for take out. Of course we did not read the fine print on the gift certificate which was so old that it said you couldn't use it for takeout but they were kind enough to accept it anyway. We ordered the chicken pesto sandwich which Mike absolutely loved. It was grilled chicken with pesto and a nice fresh bun and it was very good. I ordered the strawberry salad which had blue cheese in it and candied walnuts and was so so good. We went to the campus of URI and just sat and enjoyed the view and the salad was part of the view. It was lovely and tasted just as lovely as it looked. I also ordered the beet salad to take home for dinner. We both are crazy about beets and I wanted to try it. We brought it home and had it with our dinner and it was just delicious. Probably my favorite thing of all. It was beautiful to look at even in a cardboard box and it was really delightful. If you like beets you will love this. They had a big variety on their menu and a lot of things to choose from and also they have daily specials which is kind of fun. I've been coming to South County with my family for well over a decade and I'm kicking myself for making this my first visit to Tavern on Main. This was an amazing experience. My family was in the area for a half marathon and we decided to deviate from our normal establishments and give this a shot. We were not disappointed. You are treated when you are seated to pickled cucumbers, cauliflower and onion and it's clearly home made. I ordered Main St Burger and it was juicy and delicious. My son ordered the strip steak and he downed it. It was served with roasted Brussels spouts and bacon and the sprouts were amazing! I really loved this place and what's great about South County is that you can try places for years and years and find a place special like this. I'll definitely be back. read more

We had lunch there on a Sunday and wish we could have been back for dinner. A nice sized bar with two TVs quietly on, big booths along windowed walls, and the pressed tin ceiling invited us to stay.
