Our last visit was not bad, but not as expected. We had heard that the restaurant was under new management and that a new menu was now in place. The really great burger we had last year with onion rings and bacon was not on the menu anymore....no more happy hour specials either.... I got the Umami burger and it was just average...underwhelming....not something that I would order again. My husband got the ribeye panini and the meat was tough and bland. We went for drinks and apps on the roof. We had the Brussels sprouts (tasty but texture was off because they definitely use frozen Brussels which is just odd for a restaurant) and the steak tartare. It definitely was not steak tartare; as the meat was not raw but had been seared. Still tasted good but again, odd to call it something it isn't. Drinks were good and staff were friendly. What a noticeable decline from what was a very good restaurant. I know covid took its toll on a lot of businesses, and it seems to be a factor here. The restaurant used to have an innovative and very talented chef, who's menu had an Asian influence. Now the menu is what you would find at any typical restaurant, with chicken tenders and hot dogs for 'the kids'. Not a single seafood option that wasn't fried. How does an upscale boutique hotel restaurant at the shore not offer some fish dishes that aren't deep fried? It's all burgers, "paninis" and fried food. About the panini, my wife got one and it was the saddest panino ever. It didn't have the grill markings like it should, and was basically a wet, limp grilled cheese sandwich with vegetables. My fish and chips were not very good. The fish didn't taste fresh, and the plate came without tartar sauce. Apparently you have to ask for that. The tartar sauce was clearly some bottled overly sweet concoction. I had a couple bites and was done. My wife asked for a side of mayo, and the server brought out a couple packets of mayo. Packets?? Is this McDonald's? The server we had was the one bright spot of the evening. She was great, really trying to do her best in a restaurant that needs some serious managerial revamping. We sat out on the rooftop deck, which is where the dining area is now. They no longer use the beautiful dining room on the ground floor. I don't know why. The rooftop deck may be lovely on a sunny afternoon, but when it gets dark, it's awful. The majority of tables have umbrellas over them, but no lighting, so most of the deck is dark and uninviting. Also, the music was all 1970s light rock - ugh. Maybe you like to listen to Jim Croce and James Taylor, but then you might be 75 years old. This in no way appeals to a young, cool clientele. Such a sad change from then to now. I don't recommend the restaurant for food at all. It would be a nice spot to enjoy a beer or cocktail on a sunny day, but that's it. read more

The service was very slow. Our server Christine was very nice. There was no lobster at all in my lobster bisque. The drinks were off. They did not taste right (any of them). We had the diver scallops and the cod (both which were very good). However, we got to a point where we were looking at each other wondering if we should just cancel the order and leave because it took so long to get our orders (from the statt, including drinks).. There were two people servicing a full bar and a full patio of dining, as in making drinks, running food, clearing and setting tables. There was no sign of any management. At the price point that is being requested to eat here, would have expected much more. I would not return or recommend this place for dinner. The other downside was that the patio area is in the shade during the afternoon early evening (so it was chilly). I suppose if we were staying at the hotel I would stop up for a drink or snack, but would not venture to the restaurant itself for another try at dinner. Five stars for Christine otherwise I felt like the experience was not worth it. read more

When we first got there, there were 2 people behind the bar, the woman asked us if we had a reservation, we said yes and gave her the name. Neither of them flinched, they just kept doing what they were doing. The rest of our party got there and the man asked again for the name, we gave it and again neither of them even acknowledged that they heard us. We eventually a server was setting up a table outside, so we started walking to it. The woman looked up and said "Yeah that's your table out there". It took forever before someone took our order. I ordered the pear and burrata salad. When I got my salad I looked through it and there was no burrata, there was crumpled up feta and pears and the rest of the salad, but no burrata. I asked the server because I thought maybe I had the wrong dish. She went to ask the kitchen, and when she came back, she said that they were running low on burrata so there was some mixed in and there was also some feta mixed in. She seemed very apologetic and offered another salad, so that was nice. I ate the whole salad, it wasn't bad, but there was NO burrata in it. So either the kitchen lied or they don't know what burrata is. Because burrata and feta are very different. The salad wasn't even that bad, as a pear and feta salad, but the fact that it wasn't even mentioned that they were "running low" or just plain out of burrata is ridiculous. read more

My first review was positive, but I have encountered a woman at the front desk on 3 occasions who quite frankly needs training in how to treat people of color. She is the only one who consistently stops me from going on the elevator to the restaurant, while others walk past me and just hop on the elevator with no questions asked. Im usually with 2 other ladies but she directs her communication only to me. My friends were not happy with her treatment of me personally and refuse to go back. She has made the experience unpleasant and is quite rude and a muserable person. read more

I had the quahog chowder which was tasty( but not hot enough) - a cup of standard milky chowder base, few small chunks of potatoes, chopped quahogs, lots of dill - great crackers to put in soup. Cheese and garlic? Can't remember - that was $8.00. Oysters were $3 each and shrimp cocktail $3.50 each. They were Fresh but not outstanding. Friend had the avocado toast and enjoyed it, and the turkey club was also enjoyed. They do offer saugy's in several ways ( ie with boneless short ribs) , sandwiches and appetizers for lunch. They had what sounded like an awesome hamburger but it was only served after 5 pm) It was a lovely day and we all enjoyed the sunshine and cool breeze. There was only one server and as it got busy we saw him less and less. But he was pleasant and low key and we liked him . My friend had gone to dinner the night before and said it was pretty good. For me, Narragansett is full of places for lunch and drinks, mostly mediocre, ( except for staples like Matunuck Oyster Bar , Spain, Aunt Carries etc). I was unaware that the restaurant had changed so dramatically. I had been there a multiple of times but not in two or three years. But my memories were positive and thought it time to revisit. It went from food that was creatively crafted (think James beard award winning) with great upscale service to a menu that was Olive Garden meets Arbys. The ambience is gone and so is the food. Great spot for drinks with an amazing view! Came here mainly for that. They have a rooftop bar and a ground level bar, and it's located inside break hotel. Complementary valet parking although it also seems like it's the only option. Love the decor inside, has quite a charm to it as soon as you enter. Bright and blue. Good combination of new n old. Sat at the rooftop bar, got 2 drinks, on vacation and the garden Bloody Mary both of which were pretty decent. For food, for the happy hour mussels which was good and the clam chowder which we returned since it didn't even have one clam in it and was not so great anyways. Also got the charcuterie board with the speck, bufaralo and one other cheese. The bufaralo was great, had a lot of strong different flavors. Overall good experience I guess. We've been wanting to try Chair 5 for a few years, having heard good things about it. The location is prime, on a Narragansett roof deck looking out to the ocean. The servers were friendly and attentive. There's a cute sunset deck on the other side that looked fun for drink and snacks. We took a leap and ordered the lobster roll. At $38, the kitchen really has to bring it - but when it hit the table, the sandwich was aggravatingly small. We also ordered the ahi tacos and a smokehouse chicken sandwich. Interesting and not bad, but the flavors lacked punch and just didn't hang together. There's a lot of variety on the menu, but in the end, we came away feeling like the whole thing was just unfocused. We wanted it to be great, but can only recommend it for a drink and maybe a simpler appetizer. (2 stars feels harsh, but I'd have to want to go back to get to 3, and I just don't.) read more

Chair 5 at The Break, by Jim and Becky Durkin. A 16 room nautical stay not only by view but by the ornaments. The design is consistent from the front door, floors, ceiling to our table. If your really think about it, Narragansett the Florida of Rhode Island, a peninsula, surrounded by water. One really needs to take a walk around the quarters and port to get the complete tour. At the Chair 5 everyone caters and welcomes by opening your car door, the hostess with their international smiles, to the bartender who seems to know just the right drink for the soothing sounds. Kelly our server who made me smile not knowing Cheers but now knows the "Kelly Song" by Woodi... a delight who knew the menu and made my wife and I laugh. A joy! The chef has a twist to the list of on the menu. As if everyone is heard so they can prep to serve you personally. Chair 5 has even thought about our animal friends, almost every other item on the menu is animal free and thoughtful to the local community food and drink sources. I loved the vSausage and vCheese Flat Bread and the Wild Mushroom Risotto... a well chilled floating ice rock Bourbon and a Gansett Lager that most don't know 'it's organic.' The music was so awesome by Lainey Dionne. We over heard Lainey completed her 4 year college in two years knowing she and her parents couldn't afford her housing in Boston so she took advantage of the time she was gifted. Wonderful to see the youth succeed. Her talent didn't stop at education, her music shined. Beautiful voice accompanied by her acoustical talent. Can't wait to revisit and sail onto the new adventure at Chair 5. read more

Nice location on the 4th/top floor of a boutique hotel a few blocks from the ocean, so you get the sun, the air and the view. But noticeably understaffed, which deteriorates the experience. Orders take a long time and most food and drink arrive slightly different from the menu description or the way that you ordered it. Hard to find someone who can help and no one checks in or offers additional rounds. Passable for a cocktail, would suggest dining elsewhere. read more

Cute place! Visited on a Saturday afternoon and it wasn't too busy. We just had some drinks out on their rooftop lounge which is open year round. The view is great and they offer blankets if you get chilly. The service was really great and the prices are reasonable for the type of place it is. Their inside has a few tables and a small bar with TVs. Other than the main outdoor lounge, there's another outdoor section with couches. Not sure how the food is but definitely recommend the visit for a drink if you want to relax and enjoy the view. read more

Ate at Chair 5 last night with a group of 5. The dining room is coastal chic, very comfortable and a great environment for an enjoyable and fun dinner. They have a new chef and the food was great. Our table shared a Caesar salad, calamari and gochuchang chicken tenders to start. All very good. The calamari was so tender and flavorful and the Caesar also super fresh and the dressing was yummy. Dinner was Seafood Stew - "Delicious", 2 orders of fish and chips - "so good and killed Aunt Carries for taste and quality", Chicken Milanese - "crispy and delicious" and the Filet - "ate every bite, yum". We had Jake as a waiter. He was personable, attentive and friendly. Overall a fantastic dinner and we plan to return before our 2 weeks in Narragansett are over. read more

Claim cakes were over brown and a little under done inside. Dessert was fantastic. Espresso was the real deal. Feel like the food could be really good here. Perhaps the execution on my dish was off. We had an excellent dinner on New Years Eve. The dining room and nearby bar are stunningly decorated with windows to outdoor inground heated pool-sauna area. The meal started with generous Charcuterie Board, local sourced domestic and European meat, cheeses and fresh fruit. The salad was fresh and the oyster chowder was amazing. The prime rib was cooked to perfection as was the salmon. The cocktails are tall and tasty, desserts delicious and servers all helpful and friendly. read more

Read both positive and negative reviews, decided to give it a shot. We were unfortunately disappointed. Here are the highlights and lowlights: - The manager, who was very nice, dropped a piece of bread on the table and left it there. Didn't even apologize. As if we were supposed to pick it up from the table and eat it. - The manager described one of the charcuterie cheeses wrong and then apologized when we ordered it and were confused with "it's new to the menu." Doesn't matter, you should know what it is! - Our waiter was clueless and not enthusiastic. - Salad barely had any shaved veggies. Mostly lettuce--and lots of stems! Gazpacho special was basically just broth. - Drinks are STRONG. Very strong. -Delicious butter with some honey in it. Bread is good too. - My first though upon seeing my entree: did they forget something? It took up less than half the plate! It was good though. - They brought dessert with no spoons. Then they came back with spoons shortly after. Still, odd that we had to point that out. Came here with a group of 12 on a Friday night. A couple from our group were running late but they were accommodating and we ordered appetizers while waiting for them to arrive. I tried the lobster bisque that someone else ordered. It was on the thin side and average at best. I ended up ordering the scallops because they had been delivered that night. They scallops were delicious and cook to perfection. My only critiques were that they went a little heavy on the honey for the sauce and the accompanying vegetables were an odd combination. In summary, everyone enjoyed their meals but true to the other reviews it is extremelyyyyy slow service. Slow to the point that we asked the waiter for bread to snack on (for those of us that didn't order appetizers) and for an estimate on when the food would be ready. read more

Literally just a review of the rooftop bar area. We didn't eat anything, just had some drinks, but we did have a very nice time. The view is phenomenally good. They had a creative selection of cocktails. I got a Bloody Mary and it was pretty good. I also had some beer. They have a small but nice selection of local brews. The bloody was $12, the beers were $6, and I was pleasantly surprised not to be gouged just because of the view. The food looked good, we just weren't hungry. They have a limited menu on the rooftop which makes sense but they had oysters, lobster rolls, fish tacos, all the stuff you would hope to find by the ocean. Service was friendly and prompt. The outdoor area of the rooftop is not huge so I wouldn't necessarily come here with a large group and expect to sit outside. I loved it so much that I didn't wanna write a review. Such a nice view and a nice staff with nice drinks. I went there on weekday afternoon (1pm on Thursday) so there weren't that many people - which i liked. I liked it so much that I don't want many people going there so i can enjoy this more :P They have restaurant on first floor which I am yet to try... but the interior seemed really cozy and pretty too. I even checked what their nightly price is to stay - i think it would be a perfect getaway place with boyfriends/girlfriends. read more

Had to send two back due to over cooking and finally gave up. Also, calamari Appetizer took over 1 hour 30 minutes to come out. The view from rooftop is very nice! The bar will crank out drinks at a normal pace, which is appreciated. The menu on rooftop is very small, which I didn't realize vs. restaurant downstairs. They had 'lots of training' going on in the kitchen, that's the reason we were given for appetizers taking so long. After waiting an hour and twenty minutes for food, I asked if my youngest could have some bread or something since she didn't eat seafood and the delay with dinner. The servers are polite and said no they only have bread in downstairs restaurant. We tried but couldn't wait any longer and left to go somewhere else, I hated to complain but too long to wait for paninis. The manager was nice and comped the appetizers, I had asked for bill and wasn't looking for a freebie. I know hiring is hard, but training is best done before the Friday of July 4th week to get ahead. So would recommend trying downstairs if you do go here, sounds like better option. read more

Came here on a summer evening after an afternoon at the beach. The food was good but it did take a really long time to come out. I made a reservation on Open Table (nice option!) but it was totally unnecessary since the place was pretty much empty at prime dinner time on a Saturday night. I did get an email from Open Table saying I did not show up for the reservation, which was a little annoying but a reply to them cleared everything up. Despite the wait the food was excellent and the server was attentive making sure all food allergies were noted. Overall a 3.5 star experience but rounding up on account of a nice buttery lobster roll (minus the bun, served on a bed of lettuce) and the kindness of the server. read more

VEGAN FOOD REVIEW- My family ordered take out tonight after finding out about a new gf/vegan menu. We ordered the morrocan sweet potato burger, the smokey smashed chickpea sandwich, the buffalo cauliflower bites and the chikin seitan sandwich. Negatives: Most of the fries were overcooked and hard. Seitan sandwich came with a sweet potato burger instead of the seitan it was supposed to come with. Cauliflower in the cauliflower bites was just sauteed soaked in buffalo sauce. The toppings were very scarce on the sandwiches. The tomato was green and not ripe. Positives: The buns were soft and hearty. The flavors were decent. It was nice to see vegan options at a non vegan establishment. Overview: I appreciate what this place is attempting to do. It's great to see vegan options becoming more available. The execution is just not there. I hope they can make improvements to some of the things I have mentioned above. read more

Wow. Just wow! To the manager of the waitress on duty yesterday, your staff needs additional training in customer service etiquette. Stopped in with a party of 6 to check out the place for a possible future venue. We ordered a drink, service was very, very slow which we could look past. But when the bill finally arrives and we left the exact bill amount in cash and a hefty tip, to be insulted by the waitress with a snide comment "who wants the pennies because we don't accept pennies" was insulting beyond words. Bill was $44.28 for 4 drinks and 1 iced tea. We left the exact amount plus $8 tip. She looked around holding 3 pennies in her hand wanting to dispose of them. Rude, rude, rude. No other words can describe how she ruined our experience and turned us off from ever wanting to return. Management needs to step up before you lose additional customers. read more
