The Back Porch in Lake Alfred is one of those rare spots that instantly makes you feel at home…read more From the moment I walked in, I was personally welcomed by the owner, who was incredibly warm and genuinely appreciative that I stopped in during my lunch break. He chatted with me, made sure I was taken care of, and added such a personal touch to the whole experience--something you don't get often anymore. The food is served in the cutest wooden picnic baskets, which sets the tone right away. I ordered the soup, side salad, and sandwich combo, and everything was fresh and comforting. The butternut squash soup was rich and creamy with pumpkin seeds on top, the chicken and brie wrap was pressed perfectly, and the pasta salad tasted garden-fresh with a crisp bite of veggies. What I love most is the atmosphere. You can choose to dine on their beautiful shaded porch--full of old Florida charm--or head inside to their cozy dining room if you want to escape the sun. Both spaces have that relaxed, welcoming vibe that makes you want to linger. The Back Porch is a gem: great food, thoughtful presentation, and hospitality that truly stands out. If you're near Lake Alfred, this place is absolutely worth the stop.

Do yourself a favor and have lunch at Lucille's in Winter Haven. Great menu with so many choices…read more We had the handcut chips and the fried cauliflower appetizers and they were delicious. The Angus burger is so flavorful and was cooked to perfection! My friend's buffalo chicken salad was delicious and enough for three meals. Can't fault a single thing. Our server, Kaley, was amazing, as well. So personable and steered us right on the menu. Def will be going back!

It's always a clear knockout when we eat here…read more There's no way we will ever go to Winter Haven without stopping at Lucille's. It is just that good. We take a trip to Legoland every now and again and every time we do we come and eat dinner here. We have loved every single meal. This time I branched out and tried another drink, I tried the sincerely, Lucille. It is vodka with fresh strawberries and basil, and it is amazing. Future Christina this is your new go to drink. My husband got his standard old-fashioned and enjoyed it. For food, I got the chimichurri steak, next time I should remember to get the chimichurri on the side just because my younger son didn't like the green stuff on the steak. The chimichurri is delicious. It was cooked perfectly at medium rare, I got their homemade chips as one of my sides because my kids wanted it. Their chips are so good that was definitely the way to go. I also got green beans which were amazing as well. My older son got the kids mac & cheese with a side of fries. I even loved his mac & cheese. It's definitely not the Kraft mac & cheese. My husband got the barbecue plate. He had mixed vegetables and mashed potatoes and loved all of it. My younger son ate off of all of our plates and we pretty much finished all our food. My younger son then got a dessert of vanilla ice cream with Oreos and he scarfed it down. We've never had a problem getting a seat here because it is a good size restaurant. The staff is very friendly and the food comes out pretty quickly. If you're anywhere close to this restaurant, you should be eating here.

Tasty. Friendly. Interesting…read more I wasn't sure what to expect when I stopped in, and while the food was good, there was just something about it that wasn't for me. I had the country fried steak with two eggs and it was good. I was taken care of by Sheila, and she was lovely. But this will probably be my only visit.

How many different diners can I try for breakfast in Florida? Ten? Twenty-five? Fifty? I'll bet I'm…read moreheading towards fifty! These fine folks are 35 miles from my casa and off the beaten track for me. I was in the area for another reason, and they were calling me. Arriving- their address is 5th Street but think Route 17. The parking lot is fine and there are some solid handicapped spots. Ambience- You enter through the outside patio. It's very nice and shaded but you're still going to be eating with cars whizzing by. That's never been an attraction for me. Inside has got a 50s vibe. Everything is spotless. You see the buffet almost immediately. There is a semi-open kitchen in that you can see part of it from some seats. The menus are laminated to the tables. The men's bathroom was spotless. Customer Service- Maybe 8 stars! Just awesome! My drink arrived within seconds of sitting down. My order was taken within seconds of when I was ready. I was checked on appropriately. My bill was on the table, and you pay the cashier when you leave. Nothing but good stuff to say. Food- Standard American menu with no big surprises. When I try a new place for breakfast, I always get an omelet. This time it was a Meatlovers with potatoes and a biscuit @ $11.99. The omelet was 4 eggs which is a little unusual. I was asked if I wanted my home fries cooked on the grill or deep-fried. That was something new! I choose deep fried. Everything was out quickly. My biscuit (not pictured) was warm and soft. My omelet was just fine. An average amount of meat and cheese and cooked nicely. It didn't seem like a four-egg omelet. Just the usual three. I could get this omelet anywhere and that's not necessarily a bad thing. OMG the deep-fried home fries! Did you see my picture? These are not from a bag but homemade. They were piping hot and just damn amazing! I never had anything like them, and they'll be in my dreams tonight. So, my breakfast with excellent service was easily a four-star experience. I can't speak to their lunch. Their average on Yelp is 4.3 which I think is justified. Give them a try!
