We had an OK dinner at Tavern on the Hill, but I honestly think that maybe that had to do with what we ordered. Overall I liked the restaurant itself. It's a nice relaxed restaurant but still had a kind of more upscale feel than a lot of restaurants in the area without being too pretentious. For dinner, I kind of just did a combo of appetizers. I ordered the lobster bisque, which was good and surprised me when it arrived at the table with some bits of real lobster on the top. A nice touch, along with the nice toasty piece of bread that came with it. The soup itself tasted very good. It was a bit thick in consistency but I suspect that may have been because it was near the end of the night. We also got the coconut shrimp which were totally good coconut shrimp. Nothing exceptional but absolutely tasty with a nice dipping sauce. And then we got the fried avocados, which were probably the biggest disappointment of the night. The avocados were not creamy and the breading was just kind of meh. We'll be back. We'll just maybe order differently. read more

I love Tavern on the Hill. The staff are always amazing! Nick is by far my favorite waiter of all time. He always is on top of everything and always kind. One thing my group noticed while in tonight was the ambience has changed noticeably. We come nearly every week for the food, but also the atmosphere. Tonight there was a different type of Playlist playing. I knew immediately something had changed. My group misses the old Playlist. It always made us happy. Everyone would comment on it and sing along each week. Tonight it was generic and basic music that is played everywhere, including walmart. read more

Whether we sit in one of the private booths, at the big bar, or at a table under the glass-covered patio, we find that we're always able to relax while dining at Tavern on the Hill. We've eaten breakfast, lunch, and dinner here at different times of the day and week and have always enjoyed the food. Review 1 - Well i liked this place until I tried a mini pizza. They are not Pizzas. They bake some dough in the over and sprinkle some meat and veggies on top when it comes out. Had one slice and sent it back. What a joke. Review 2 - so this second visit, 3 of the 5 people had uncooked bacon, see photos. The did comp the 3 BLTEs but that doesn't matter when they leave still hungry. The menu's were all tattered and ripped (see photos) service was slow, no cutlery or napkins, one drink the entire time and finally was asked for a second one when we were all done eating. We (party of 3) were up visiting the North Shore and saw this was a decent place to go. We walked in and got a table pretty quickly. The server, Ross, took about 10 minutes to come to the table to ask for drinks. We ordered drinks and also ordered food. The drinks that came out were poorly made, in the wrong glass and didn't have any ice. It took just under 40 minutes for our food to come out. We saw another table sat down after us, ordered, got their food, and paid their check before we got our food. We didn't order anything crazy either (a couple pasta dishes and a burger). I had to flag the server down, who was not paying attention to our table as much as his others. I asked him where our food was and that it was almost 40 minutes. I also mentioned the table that got their food way before us. His response was, "their dishes were simple and quick to make." No apology. The food quality was pretty decent, but the lack of good service, poor communication to us, and not apologizing for the slowness really made the experience here not good. Overall, it was an experience to show us that this place is not worth coming back to. read more

Do not order the cheese curds because they are literally 12 cubes of cheese w no batter. And should not be called cheesecurds. Super disappointing. I got the BLTE which is made with local bacon and a side of coleslaw. The coleslaw wasn't your typical, creamy basic coleslaw, had a vinegar base but was also tangy, really enjoyed it. The first full service restaurant to open at the site of the old Woodland Junior High is called "Tavern on the Hill," and is part of the local Blackwoods hospitality group. The debut also marks the opening of the first full bar within staggering distance of the campus. A small 'market' just inside the door of the restaurant offers take-away menu items, prepared and packaged to go. They have 'one of the best tasting burgers experienced in a long time, crowing about the quality of the meat. Servers offered the burgers in one of two modes: "pink" or "not pink," and the kitchen obliged. Arrived just in time to benefit from two free appetizers after their photographer got done taking pictures, which was like Christmas! We stopped after a short hike in -7°F weather, and our lunch hit the spot. My husband's coffee crusted salmon came with the biggest baked potato I've ever seen. My son's spicy shrimp and avocado salad was amazing, and I enjoyed my zoodled squash from scratch bowl. The free apps (pretzel sticks with cheese, and cheese curds) were fabulous, too. I commend the email that was sent to your staff regarding this issue but asking them to call a telephone number and talk to a complete stranger is highly unlikely. I know my acquaintance has expressed how uncomfortable they have felt to other managers, just not the GM out of fear and that many of their coworkers feel EXACTLY the same. I would recommend you meet with your entire staff together, where they feel safe in numbers to speak the truth and you can get real answers and come up with an immediate action plan to eliminate this hostile work environment. This is one of those few times where I don't think Yelp is rating this place accurately. I had a local recommend this place and we brought seven people there for dinner on a busy Saturday night. Everything we tried from the stuffed tater tots to the drinks to the entrees were delicious. Literally all seven people, including three kids loved their meals. And our server provided such exemplary service that we waited to speak with the manager to provide that feedback. In addition to huge cash tip of course!:-) It is a huge restaurant with a really cool bar area and it's huge outdoor dining section as well. I would definitely recommend giving it a try. read more

This place from what remembered was classy, fun, and exciting. It had the college feel with a bring your whole family twist. Unfortunately during this last visit I had a very different and disappointing time. My fiancé had the Spiralized Butternut Squash bowl and I had the Fish and Chips. Unfortunately my fish was soggy, and the bowl had a piece a plastic in it. It was very strange. The slaw was very weird tasting, no seasoning, no sauce, and appeared to be outdated. The best part about my experience was our waitress who immediately fixed the problem by bringing my dish back to the kitchen, having the chefs make a proper dish and chips but with the same old slaw on the side. My fiancé decided not to have her meal redone. A manager came over and apologized about the meal and took her meal completely off. Although surprised by the food I was absolutely satisfied by the customer service we received. Not sure when we will be back but one day we will return cause we won't forget the service. However I question the "bison" claim. I have had bison and I have had beefalo . My guess is that I was eating a beefalo burger.... Tavern on the Hill is a combo neighborhood bar and family restaurant. We went there to eat dinner so didn't sit at the bar area. The staff was very kind and polite. Service was swift and accurate, and drinks were kept refilled. The menu was basic American food focused on beef with a couple flares to bison and local lake fish. I chose the Bison Pot Pie, my son had the local mac and cheese, and my wife had a cheeseburger. All the entrees came together and service seemed reasonably timed. The Bison Pot Pie was tasty and came with a spear of French bread and a small 2 oz cup of cranberry chutney. The pastry crust was nice and the ingredients in the pot pie were as expected- meat, potatoes, and a smattering of vegetables. My bison pot pie came only warm, not hot so it was disappointing for that single reason. It surprises me how this happens at a restaurant, since cooked food is always 100% better when served hot. I believe the other items were hot and that must have meant that my meal was cooling while the others finished to bring the meals to the tables. That unfortunate bit of timing left my meal experience wanting, while the others seemed to enjoy their fare. Overall this restaurant feels like a local version of Marie Calendars, with perhaps a nice bar. That said, I'd definitely return to try something else, but might mention my wish to have the food ensured to be hot. The staff was great and the overall rating can only go up for this place. My current rating obviously suffers from a single misfortune related to the warmth of my entree. read more

The service and humans working here? AMAZING!!! The food? We had a Cuban sandwich that is very authentic but with a little spin; LOVED it! The Mac n Cheese? WOAH, decadent and really very tasty! The restaurant is where this place loses the star, the "Tavern" looks pretty cool and the greeter tried to usher us in there for dinner, but not what we wanted so we had to wait... no big deal... The "Restaurant dining room is just weird, its cavernous and just a square room, looks like an afterthought to a well though out restaurant, or like they put it in to appease the grannies and gramps... Not sure but it was not at all what I would ever expect a dining room to look or feel like. It was just weird. I would definitely go back and would definitely take the greeter up on his push into the tavern area instead,, maybe he was trying to tell me something? Checked this place out on a recommendation. The inside and patio area were very inviting. I sat at the bar, which was huge. There was plenty of room to gather around it and be comfortable. The bartenders were super friendly as well. I ordered the Cioppino. It was on the menu as a house speciality. It was fantastic. The broth was rich and delicious. It had whitefish, shrimp, mussels, scallops, clams, and red potatoes. On top there was some smoky-spicy chipotle aioli. It was so good I ate it as slow as humanly possible. I didn't want the bowl to run out. If I make it back for another visit I'd like to check out one of the burgers (many sounded good) or the prime rib dip sandwich. read more
