This is an amazing place to eat, there are so many good foods I do recommend eating here. The servers are so nice.

Had such a great meal(s) on Friday night. We all loved our dinners; ordered the scallops (I know, I know...at a BBQ place?). They were perfectly cooked and delicious. Everyone at our table raved. And the cocktails were on point (and I'm usually a beer drinker and still loved the black manhattan ). Service was excellent. Cozy, quiet enough to have a conversation. I wish they were more consistent. Last night's dinner was definitely 4 stars but last time the food was a 3 and service a 2.5. The views are stunning (during spring, summer and early fall) and cocktails on the deck are delightful. Last night we had the Lobster Bisque - skip it. No lobster (none!) and the bouillabaisse was too dark even if there had been. The Brie Puffs were good - if over sauced. My wyf had the Bistro Tenders with Potatoes Au potatoes and she was pleasantly surprised. I played it safe with Shrimp Marchese (which they do well). I took my wife there for her birthday. Great staff, beautiful view, food was excellent. My only disappointment was the ribs. They were great by New England standards, but I am from the South and have yet to find ribs up to my standards ANYWHERE. You New Englanders have such fragile palates. read more

I've been here three times now. The first few times were perfectly fine! The barbecue is okay. On my most recent visit, service was pretty bad but I don't blame anyone because it's a rough time for restaurants. Then I made the grave mistake of ordering the mussels as my main with a Caesar on the side. Both were awful. Everything was just doused in cream, and the mussels were already so cold that the cream "sauce" had already congealed. The wine I had was also awful. I've never been a person to send food back or complain but I wish I had because oof. Moral of the story is to just stick to the barbecue, I guess! read more

Dirty Dirty For a birthday dinner with my honey - we decided to go somewhere different from our usual. It was a long time since we've been here. Although I'm sure it was for a different experience - I am reminded why this isn't on our short list of places to go. Cleanliness is a challenge for this establishment - see the picture of the bread plates I've uploaded. They are shown as how they were on the table when we were seated. Silverware and glassware appeared clean. However, the restaurant was pretty dark for getting a good view of the dinnerware and the food. Matt had fried oysters and although they weren't special - they were good. There was a weird corn salsa presence on the plate. It didn't really add any color so it didn't seem to serve a purpose. Matt ordered the risotto with chicken. It was good but salty. We did bring home leftovers - so I'll say it was good enough to hope to enjoy more. Side salads were good and we both had Gorgonzola dressing. Yum. I had the blackened steak tips. When I ordered - the waitress said they would come 'medium' of that was okay with me. I assented. Well, when I started to eat the HUGE steak tips I found them to be disagreeable chewy. It turns out they were closer to rare than medium. I couldn't tell at first because the lighting was so low in the restaurant - but I held the phones flashlight app against the meat and there it was - rare meat. The waitress took it back and offered to have it cooked more. By then I had lost my appetite for steak and declined. When the waitress came back she informed me that meal was off the check. I laughed a little as I suspect I could've walked out on the check if they had actually charged me for that poor attempt at blackened medium steak. I felt this place has potential - but for the prices charted it should've achieved at least SOME of that potential. It out a slight damper on our birthday observance - but hopefully we have many more birthdays to get it right!!! Final thought? - We won't rush back. read more

However, the establishment according to my mobile phone has 5G millimeter waves running through the whole place now. NOT SAME AS 4G. I used to dine here but now, I go in exactly when orders are ready, but no more. 5G and cheap toxic seasonings. So I can't speak for any of their food or service from before they began offering hardwood smoked barbecue, but I can speak for what they serve now. I've been here three times and every time it's been awesome. They smoke their meats with locally sourced Oak and Oak just happens to be my favorite all-around smoking wood. It's got a good middle of the road smoke strength and is a little more prevalent in terms of flavor than say, Apple wood, but not as sooty as Hickory. That being said, I'm unsure of what kind of cooker they're using, but judging by the oak logs stacked up out back, I can discern that it's likely the real deal and not some stainless steel chip-smoker. Whether they use electric or gas to assist in the fueling, I don't know. But this is the best tasting barbecue I've had in Massachusetts and most closely mimics the barbecue I've had in other parts of the country that use honest smoke pits that aren't built into a kitchen. The brisket is incredible. For instance, tonight I ordered brisket (my third time) and I called just as they took the meats off the smoker. Naturally, the way they carve it, I'd wind up with the first cut which would typically be the thinnest end of the brisket (the flat). That area of the brisket can be prone to drying out. I did receive the end of the flat, and it was moist, tender, smokey, and perfectly trimmed with just a bit of rendered fat atop it. It passed the bend and pull test. The pulled pork is very good and has a good mix of moist inner meat and smoke-ring kissed outer bark pieces. It's pulled in large chunks and isn't shredded or chopped to death. I'll also mention that if you eat in, the large stainless steel tray platters they bring out have good sides with them. The collards stood out for sure. Service is always good here- it feels upscale but you don't have to show up dressed any different than you normally do. They have a great selection of craft beers on tap according to my wife and the view out back is pretty neat if you aren't from the area. If you get a spot on the deck you can see a good part of the valley. I've heard from people that this place in its former iterations and some years back that it wasn't great. But I've had 3 great experiences so it gets a 5 star rating from me. read more

I'm local and have driven by this place for years but never stopped in for dinner. After recently hearing their radio ad on WEEI, I decided to bring my fiancée in and give them a try. I called and made a reservation (no problem, in fact we got a primo table in front of the beautiful stone fireplace- very romantic!) for a Saturday night. First, drinks. My gal chose a glass of muscato. I had the Tavern Cosmo. The bartender knows how to make a great one. We started with the Honey Garlic Chicken Wings, an appetizer special. They were cooked to perfection, crispy on the outside, but moist and tender inside. A minimal amount of fatty skin, too- clearly these were quality wings. The sweet and the spice taste were perfectly balanced! They came with a dip that was ranch/Gorgonzola based. I am not a fan of dipping an already drenched BBQ wing into a white sauce, but after my gal cajoled me into it, I was pleasantly surprised. The 8 wings were amazing. We decided to increase our salads up to Caesar. The lettuce came slightly chilled, dressed perfectly, with croutons, shaved Parmesan, and a deliciously crunchy baked Cheese crostini on top. Wow! We devoured them- so good. The rolls (crusty snowflake) were warm and inviting. For entrees, my fiancée got the Pumpkin & Butternut Squash Tordellini and I got the Bistro Steak. Hers was amazing- a sage cream sauce made the little pasta packages so delectable. Their Bistro is a marinated shoulder steak that is cooked, then sliced at an angle. It's accompanied by au gratin potatoes and haricot verts. And tiny fried onion strings. We were so pleased with our meals that we would've licked our plates clean had there been nobody in the room! We felt that everything had been so superior, we just had to try a dessert from the menu. It was a special: warm apple strudel with vanilla ice cream. So good! Rachel was our waitress and though she was juggling our table and four others, she was spot on. And really, so was the kitchen. We never felt rushed and as soon as we finished a course, the next came out 3-5 minutes later. Rachel told us the TOTH has just won the Top Twelve Restaurant in Massachusetts! A perfect evening! On this cold January evening we were seated by the toasty fireplace and I got a snow angel martini (which was heavenly!). I ordered baked stuffed shrimp and my husband had the blackened steak tips. Our meals were fresh, plated beautifully, and seasoned and cooked to perfection. The Tavern, located on MT. Tom, has an absolutely wonderful ambiance in the early American tradition with dark patinated wood tables and chairs; a beautifully contructed rough brick fire place in the lounge and a wrap around widowed dining area overlooking Easthampton. The bar top is somewhat on the rustic side with 2' thick double wide aged epoxied knotty pine board, just beautiful. I have heard so much about this place, I though it was time to at least stop by for a cocktail and check it out. I have friends who regularly dine there and rave about the food so that will be my next Tavern adventure. read more

The five stars are for the great service and the kindness of our server. Food 2 stars Ambiance 2 stars. Spiritless drink options 5 stars. I really don't have any reason to go back to this restaurant. Our food, the wild rice and mushrooms risotto with chicken and parmesan (which I could barely taste) $20 was very salty and the rice hardly had the texture of a risotto. My partner's dinner was a very small piece of salmon $26 on a lump of potatoes, salad not included with both meals. All salads were extra on the side and not one was under $9. I had the corn salad which was pretty tasty. The menu is very limited, very limited and the meals are way, way overpriced. I won't be a returning customer. I'm sure there are some items on the menu that they do well, but as far as what we ordered not so much and the food presentation was not impressive. We were sent a text to confirm our meal and started that we only had an hour and a half to have our meal due to seating issues. It was not an issue as there was not a full house. The ambiance of this place truly lies within the deck outside. In my most humble and respectful opinion, this is not the tavern of years gone by and was quite a disappointment. read more

Consider this post is for a visit during Covid19. The new "normal" isn't off to a good start. This place is usually excellent. Went there on July 2 to celebrate my wife's birthday. We had to go with meals that weren't what we wanted. It really isn't cool to have to make reservations, have a really short menu to choose from, to then be told the better items on the menu aren't available. I want to start by saying the food and service (our server was Gabby) were excellent. However there is a certain attitude issue with this place that is really off-putting. For starters, I made an online reservation for my husband and me a few days in advance and when I received a reminder the day of we were cautioned not to stay longer than 90 minutes. Secondly, we arrived 6 minutes before our reserved time to find the door locked. I get they open at 5;00 but it is very common for people to arrive a bit early. We could have had a drink in the bar while they were setting up, There were 4 other cars there and we all ran back down the hill to warm up in our cars. When we were allowed in, the hostess was of course, confronted with everyone arriving at once and had a rather sour demeanor. One party did not have a reservation and were eventually seated but the hostess was not happy about them. Another party had made a reservation for 4 and showed up with an extra person. They wanted to sit near a window to enjoy the view but were told no. We had reservations in the bar area, thinking we would be sitting beside a roaring fire but the fireplace was not working. The view and the fireplace are huge assets for this place. It seems like an issue if you want to enjoy either. We did enjoy our meal but we won't be going back there. read more

Our first time here was during the fall season months. I found this place a little rustic, warm and inviting. You walk in through the bar area which has a great aroma from the wood burning in the fireplace. We were quickly seated to the area that has a scenic view of Easthampton. I had the Scottish salmon and date had one of their filet meals that was cubed and served with fettuccine noodles. Salmon was the first thing on the menu so I was hoping that it was a good meal. Although the meal was presented well it did not taste like fresh Salmon. I think it was a piece of fish that had been frozen for some time. The steak meal my date had looked good and she had no complaints. I would return again because of the ambiance, and other choices on menu looked good. read more

Food was good but not a measly roll or small salad to accompany a high priced meal. I took my best friend out to dinner for her birthday and after dinner we were sitting and chatting when the owner (not very well liked), came over to our table, whisked away our glasses of water and very curtly said, "There's people waiting for this table who have reservations". Wow! It's not like we were there that long, it was a little bit over an hour. tl;dr Good food but really bad service. Not worth it. We decided to go to Tavern on the Hill to celebrate my sister's college graduation. We arrived 20 minutes early and instead of a cheery "We're not ready for you quite yet, would you like to get a drink at our bar?" we were greeted with "We aren't expecting you until 8. That's your table right there (Hostess points out an empty table in the corner.) We'll set it at 8." HUH?? Okay, maybe the hostess is having an off night. We head to the outdoor bar where we order drinks. My sister, the one we are celebrating, orders a mojito. We cheers her and before she even takes a sip, I spy something not quite right in her glass. There's a fly in it. (ick!) We bring it back to the bar to ask them to make another and the bartender's response is "We're outside. What do you want me to do? Just flick it out." HUH??? We promptly reply that we want her to make another one and after some eye rolling, she does. We are seated at 8:30 (remember, our table was empty when we came in an hour earlier... we're not seated late because of the reservation before ours...) We order apps and get them somewhat quickly but our entrees don't make it to the table until almost 9:45. We're all pretty annoyed at this point and decide to forgo dessert (something we almost NEVER do at a celebratory dinner like this) and ask for the bill so we can FINALLY go home. I have eaten barbecue too many times to count and I have to say that the ribs and brisket we got from Tavern on the Hill the other night were stunning. The collards we got with them were very vinegary but when mixed with the pit beans and the honey mustard sauce they sent were out of this world. Pick up was so easy: they come to the car....and ordering by phone could not have been easier: the person taking the order was patient and so helpful.
