Very disappointed !! I understand the restaurants are struggling with covid and getting help, but food was just average. What was disturbing was our bill. Bill totalled approximately 45.00 we didn't think much of it we handed our credit card to pay the bill. When the waiter came back I took a closer look so I could leave the appropriate tip for the server. Reviewing the receipt I notice gratuity had already been added to my bill that total 45.00. Plus there was a credit card fee on it, which again I do understand that but had I had known before I handed my credit I would have paid cash. The credit card fee came on the last receipt totaling 47.00 . I was very disappointed that it wasn't stated the credit card fee or that a 20% tip would be added to the bill for 2 people. I asked about the tip being added and the server said "oh yeah that is my fault" I see a pattern here because he did it to the other couple we were eating with too. This is one of my favorite restaurants. Great quality fresh food and friendly atmosphere. It has delicious American style food along with some Mediterranean dishes and wide variety of beer. The owners are always present to greet us and make certain that everything is perfect. The place is clean and beautiful inside with the recent remodel. First of all the ambience is great. I had ther double cheese burger (inforgot the name of it). The staff is a little older but i did go on a monday night. I dont drink but the wait staff kept my glass of coke full. I am very picky on temps on meat and they nailed it right on. I can't say enough about Tavern On the Main's burgers. They are loaded with crisp fresh goodies and taste absolutely amazing! You can definitely see why they have been voted the best local burgers. It is always my go to for a good burger. They stay true to the cute local tavern look. It's a great place to take the family for lunch or dinner or to grab evening drinks with friends. The service is always excellent. The fast, friendly servers and bartenders keep us coming back time and time again. Management seemed more interested in who was parking in their lot rather than focusing on service issues and the mediocrity coming out of the kitchen. They literally chased people down that parked and weren't walking toward the restaurant to tell them to move their car - and the lot wasn't even half full! Gee, I wonder why? Good job alienating prospective customers. You are probably doing them a favor, though. For being a tavern there weren't too many beers on tap which was the first disappointment. The second was the food. The menu is rather limited and most everything is overpriced for the quality. A $10 burger doesn't come with fries; those are $2 extra and even then it's a small handful. Wait staff is mediocre. But the place was packed so there must be something about the place I missed. The food though was terrible - likely all bought in the bulk frozen section at Costco and then deep fried. Believe it or not, I'm not a big drinker. I actually like Tavern on the Main for its really good burgers. I should probably say great burgers. When you order a burger, they bring you a condiment tray with pickles, peppers, and other good stuff....a nice "extra". I usually sit at the bar (even if getting just a burger), so I gotta mention Rachel who works behind the bar, she's wonderful....works hard to make sure your visit is a good one. If you sit at the tables, it's hit or miss with the other wait staff.....sometimes they're kinda moody. Typical bar atmosphere. On a busy night, the atmosphere is kinda frantic with the staff literally running around the place. In warm weather, the outdoor patio is really nice. read more

My favorite here is the olympia salad. It's really a greek salad with gyro meat on top. It has the freshest veggies in it and the gyro meat is tasty too. Their patio is a great place for the summer. I just wish they had more Michigan beer on tap. I think their one Michigan tap rotates between Bell's Oberon and Amber. We usually hit this place up on our yearly Clawson pub crawl. They have decent beer specials and the food is pretty good. The fries are our favorite. They do a have a non-smoking section, but to get there you have to walk through the smoking section. read more

I'm going to shoot for short and sweet although I am completely incapable of that... at one time this place was alright. Fat burgers, cozy-ish dim atmosphere, and average prices. At some point there was a shift where they added a patio and "remodeled" the back half of the restaurant. The "re-model" is getting larger and larger and is perpetual. The shitty part is that, so far... Aside from making the petite, blonde owner very happy and proud, the only thing it's done for the customers is raise the prices of the food and drinks and make navigating the parking lot miserable There is really no benefit to the customers unless you enjoy eating outside on a crowded patio or receiving a tour of what might out might not be too come. I do not enjoy that. I've been hearing that the kitchen will be larger and some new bathrooms added. These do not seen like upgrades, more like something that just should have always been. And, unless they are doing it themselves, they need to find a new contractor. It's literally been going on for years with no completion in sight. The renovation budget would have been better spent on retiring some of the terrible wait staff, and hiring some new energetic people under 50. The owner is so sweet and really wants to make you happy, but there is only one of her. The rest of the staff is composed of older people who just seem beat, and honestly posses hardened scowls that prevent me from ever getting good service or service at all without owner intervention. One of the last times I visited, we got a younger woman who was happy and attentive. I could not believe it. In hopes of seeing her again, thinking maybe things were changing, i retuned only to be met with the same old, tired, forgetful, unfriendly, chain gang of depressed, panic stricken wait staff, who honestly just look like they need a rest. I'll keep going, as it is close by and the food is mostly good. But sadly, I know what I'm in for. At least I can always count on the owner to be there to bail out the current crop of tired servants who forget drinks and food and seldom ever return after dropping it off when they do bring it. Some major creep tried buying me a beer without having the courtesy to introduce "THEMSELVES" Try learning the language and American customs. This was, hands down, the worst meal I've had in a long time. My wife and I came in tonight for dinner. We've been here before and enjoyed our meal. Not today. I had a fish and chips so cheap and over cooked that I couldn't finish it. I'd say it was no better than Gordon's, but that would be an insult to Gordon's. I ordered the fish and chips for $12.99 and was disappointed when my order came out looking like four Van De Kamp fish sticks. For that price, I expected a little more. The fancy brioche buns looked giant and expensive, we would have preferred simpler smaller buns and better quality meat. The onion rings were decent but the price is too high for the portion size. The prices in general seemed high for a bar restaurant. On a positive note, our waitress was polite, the patio looks lovely for summer and I was pleased with my glass of Pinot Noir. The place has nice decor and friendly wait staff. They are very engaging and personable. The food is not good, over priced for what seems to be warmed up frozen meals. The only thing worth while are the salads but at 13$ for a salad that's not super filling it's hard to justify. Good beer and liquor selection. The Tavern is very much in keeping with the mystique of the Cult of Clawson, Michigan, home of the world's most improbable civic fetish. It's cozy, clean, not looking to raise a fuss. After a while, you begin to suspect that people are probably having more fun somewhere else, but at this point in your life, this is excitement enough. My friends and I have been coming to his place for like a jillion years--Kevin STILL complains about them taking out the popcorn machine in 2007--so that, in itself, tells you much right there. The burgers are very good, but you can't get one with cheddar cheese (my wife desperately wants everyone to know this). I only eat the burgers, so I really don't know much else about the menu. They offer cheap domestics and a nice selection of craft beers, but spring through fall, I only have eyes for Oberin. The owners are fantastic and outgoing. I really like the servers as well. It is nice to go to a place where they know your name. As other reviewers have noted, service can be a little slow when the place is hopping. Now that you know this, instead of complaining like some kind of Wabeek coxcomb, formulate a game plan. Order your next drink a bit earlier in the process. Was that so hard? We used to come in to play weekly trivia fairly often for a couple years. Their food is below average bar food. It's no wonder with their small kitchen area. The bathrooms are small and cramped. The extra prices they tack on (like for sides of ranch) are not uniform. Sometimes its 25 cents. Sometimes $1. And it's awful all the time, even if we've been told they "make it from scratch". And when they're ready to close, they're ready to close! There were many nights when we were still hanging out, and wanting to drink at 11PM (and admittedly, usually the only ones still there), and the entire waitstaff was standing in the dining area, seemingly staring us down, tapping their feet, trying to get us to leave. This place is supposedly open until 2AM! Maybe it's a bit better since the remodel, but I'm not too interested in finding out. I've already got my fill. UPDATE: After the remodel. 5/2017 Happened to stop in. You have your pick of tables in the old area with the old feel. Otherwise, you can wait 20-30 minutes for a seat on the patio. The bathroom is bigger. The kitchen is now bigger, taking over the are where the men's bathroom used to be, but it's wide open to the restaurant. Very odd. Gigantic waiting area seems a waste of space. Plus, people accumulate around the entrance door making it hard to get in. read more

My family was very excited to try this restaurant. The aromas are amazing whenever we drive by. The place has a nice patio and the inside has a nice atmosphere. However, that's where my positive comments end. We waited at the hostess stand for long time before being helped. Once, the hostess arrived, she mumbled something about menus and said she would be right back. She came back with some menus and said she could seat us now. I guess she couldn't take us to our seats and grab the menus on the way. She showed us to a nice table next to the bar but I asked if we could sit near the window. She said she had to check. She left us standing by the table while she asked permission from the waitress. It was a fairly busy Friday night and I'm not sure why she couldn't have just given that table to the next group that came in. The food selection on the menu is very small, only sandwiches and burgers - no actual dinners. My family decided on cheeseburgers and fish & chips. We had to wait a considerable time to place our order. The waitress was very busy but she kept stopping to say she would be right with us. We noticed that other tables that arrived after us were receiving their food and we hadn't even ordered yet. Once the food arrived, the fish & chips were ok (the tartar sauce was too lemony), nothing great but not bad either. The same as you can get at any other casual dining place. However, the price was $17! Again, this was not a dinner, we had to pay extra for cole slaw. The burgers were good but not great. I asked for mine without onions and it came loaded with onions. When I asked for a side of mayo after we received our food, the waitress literally rolled her eyes at me so I wasn't going to complain. I just picked them off. Our final bill was just about $80. Pretty crazy for fish & chips and some burgers. WAY too expensive for the quality and the service. I can't see ever going back. read more

I come here at least every week. The food is always made perfectly. The waitresses take so much interest in my children and making them so happy. The new remodel is great with even more to come I'm told (new bar and kitchen!). I could go on and on. I find some of the negative reviews to be over the top. Came here yesterday with a friend and his wife for a quick bite to eat and to catch up. We met in the middle of where we both live and yelp helped me find this place. Inside was nice. Bar area was expansive and there were many TVs around to catch a game from any table location. The service was fine as well. Drinks and water glasses were always filled. I was waiting so I ordered the Fried Pickles. Have never had them before, but they were pretty good. Can't really compare them to other places, but enjoyable and, for the most part, on the light side. I wasn't super hungry so I just had a Greek Salad. I was a little apprehensive about ordering a salad there, but it was really good. Large chunks of feta, fresh tomatoes and cucumbers, and the dressing was perfect. I will definitely come back to try a burger or big sandwich when my appetite calls for it. read more

Solid post-hockey bar. It is good for large groups, has Bell's 2 Hearted on tap (as well as Labatt and other traditional favorites), and the food is good .
