One of my favorite unhealthy snacks of all time are mozzarella sticks. As bad as it sounds (for my health at least), they are usually my go-to order when I go to a bar or pub style restaurant for food. And Tavern on the Main has the second-best mozzarella sticks I have ever had, next to the surprisingly awesome Bronx Bar sticks in Detroit. They are made with provolone cheese and are served practically melting out of the breading. That alone is worth a high rating in my book. But Tavern on the Main has good food all-around. The Cajun Chicken sandwich is as delicious as it sounds (something about the word cajun makes anything sound a little bit better.) And they serve their draft beers in glasses shaped like footballs...and who doesn't want to drink beer out of a football? On the downside, the atmosphere is pretty dull. The last time I went, the dining room was full of people yet you could have heard a pin drop. Not sure why there was such a somber silence in the restaurant, but it was definitely a bit strange. Overall, the food makes this place worth going to for dinner, but the lack of liveliness means this is also a place you want to bolt out of for a more fun location after you're done eating. read more

Good experience. Limited, kind of unimaginative, menu. I had the tavern burger without a bun. Very simple. Burger, cheese, two strips of bacon. M had Olympus salad. Gyro meet good; lettuce was fresh. Ranch dressing was homemade and good. I had a side of coleslaw. Very good; tasted homemade. We were here at 6:30 on a summer Saturday. Very low key. Fine atmosphere. I'd come here again. Not bad, we had burgers and seasoned fries. The food was good, the issue I have are the additional charges that our waitress didn't tell us about until we got the bill. A small side of mayo was extra, I've NEVER been charged for mayo for my burger! The seasoned fries were seasoned with salt and pepper... and yes that was extra too.... Went to this place last night with the family for dinner. Had been here before and generally had a good experience. Not so last night....... Our waitress was in the "I hate my life" mood, the burgers that they claim are the best in Oakland County were dry, over cooked, and tasteless. If we had not waited 25 minutes for the food and had restless kids they would have went back. I did complain and got the "really ?" look from the waitress. Fish and Chips (at $13.50) looked and tasted like Mrs. Paul's frozen fish out of a box. We were given a choice of seasoned or regular fries and we chose seasoned. They came regular and then one of the cooks came over with a seasoning shaker and covered them in way too much seasoning. The Men's room smelled bad and was in poor condition. My Wife confirmed the women's was not much better. Also, for a place that is called a Tavern, they did not have a very good selection of beers. Overall bad experience. Get it together gang. We visited today because we had corned beef here before on St Paddy's day and it is excellent. The owner and the staff are terrific and friendly so I don't understand what happened to the people with the negative reviews. There was enough corned beef to take home and make another meal so there is no way you can complain about the price! The glass enclosed dining area is bright and has great atmosphere. Clawson is a great little town and this Clawson tavern has been here a long time and is worth the trip for the atmosphere and quality of the food. read more

I was very surprised with the quality of the food here. For having a little corner as the designated "kitchen" the food is authentic and amazing (you will see what I am talking about when you go there). The salads are wonderful! Homeade dressing, fresh vegetables and high quality feta and greek olive oil. The tzatziki sauce is the best I have ever had anywhere including Greektown. The gyros is fresh, tender and seasoned to perfection. My boyfriend always gets the burger which is HUGE and tasty as well. The atmosphere is very laid back and comfortable so it is a good spot to chill if you are not interested in dinner and want to enjoy a few drinks with friends. I probably go here at least three times a month and have yet to be disappointed. read more

While the service and food were good, everything was grossly over priced, and the attitude of the owner was less than pleasant. I added onion rings to my cheeseburger order, which was a $2.99 charge. Normally I would not be complaining about this, but when I received my plate and there were exactly 4.5 onion rings on it I was high disappointed. After asking the waitress about it, who apologized and said she would talk to the owner, the response was "yes the price is still $2.99". If I ever choose to visit this establishment again, I will not even bother with the 4.5 onion rings. read more

I went to the restaurant prior and had a tavern burger which I thought was pretty good so I brought a friend what a mistake. I ordered 2 tavern burgers and a salad to split . I got one tavern burger and a salad with chicken and got an inflated bill from only three days ago . The menu prices hadn't changed . The burger went up from 7.95 - 8.95 to 10.00 the coffee went up to $ 3.00 the ice tea $3.00 the 8.95 salad was $10 plnd didn't want to make a scene but was sorely disappointed at the wait time , with no one in the restaurant but a few stranglers at the bar and with no one eating in at the time . The thought crossed my mind was I overdressed or was I the wrong ethnicity as to why the prices changed on the bill ? The food is great but definitely read your bill , in fact the bill said only 1 guest . What did I learn correct the waitstaff when they get your order wrong and don't feel obligated to tip ! I was recently in Royal Oak for work for a few days and searched on my GPS for a good bar and grill so I could drink a beer, enjoy some good food, and watch the St. Louis Cardinals play in the postseason. Right when I walked in I could tell it was going to be a legend establishment! The Cards game was on 2 of the TVs right when i walked in! Ordered a few drinks and food. Food was delicious! Not only does the food make the experience at an establishment like that so great but also the service that I received was outstanding! Jessica, the bar tender, provided great service and she talked to all her customers. Amber, a waitress, even stood and talked to customers. They were both very friendly. I ended up going there the next day as the Cards played again. The other customers were also very friendly! It wasn't just the game that brought me back it was the great food and service! It is a place you should make sure you visit if you are ever in the Clawson, Michigan area. read more
