The first time I went here I wasn't impressed. We went for a brunch and our food came out really slow and all of our eggs were over cooked (we got the eggs Benedict). I gave it another try with my roommates and the food was amazing. However the music inside the restaurant was way too loud and it was a bit more like a club than it was a brunch. We were staying right near Taverna so we checked it out for dinner one night. It was very easy to get a reservation within an hour on the weekend which was nice. We were even seated on the patio when OpenTable said only inside dining would be available. However, everything else about the experience was just ok. Our service was slow, especially because it seemed our table was being waited on by someone with all other tables on the opposite side of the patio. He spent most of his time there, so we waited quite a bit of time to order, get our food, have our plates cleared, etc. For food, we had the cacio e Pepe that they mix up table side and the seafood pasta. We also asked for the focaccia bread as an appetizer but all the food came out at once. The food was good but it was expensive for the amount you received. I came in shortly after they reopened, one of the first open the dining room in the area. I'm so glad I did, and have been eating there frequently since. For me, the big draw is the risotto, I love risotto. There is only one on the menu for lunch, but there are a few for dinner, and the ones I've tried have been great. Haven't had a chance to try the pizza, if the focaccia bread they make is any indication, the pizza is probably quite good. Then we were not waited on for 10 minutes and had to get up from our table to get menus, then again to ask if anyone was going to wait on us. The mimosas were only $3 and the beignets were warm and sweet. Enough to split between a large party. Ordered the hash, which was savory and a good portion size. Recommend this dish highly. We ordered one of the table side drinks where the bartender would pull up a table next to you and make the drink. It's fancier than it sounds. Stopped for lunch and would not recommend. My friend and I ordered lunch, which was just okay (certainly not worth the $100+) price tag. There were some issues throughout the meal. Waitress offering to wipe of the table, then heading to the front patio instead, not bringing out my entre until I asked for it about 10-15 min after our appetizers' (which we'd planned to just eat all together), and brining us the wrong dessert. The biggest problem is when we asked for the bill. I had to ask for it twice. The second time I was told that their computer system was down and rebooting. Okay, we waited another 15 minutes, still down. At this point, we really needed to get back to work. The waitress asked me to write down my credit card number. Nope. I asked for the manager. He was too busy and stressed to speak to us! He literally would not come out to talk to me. She goes back, presumably to tell him. He still doesn't come out and must have told her to get my phone number. I reluctantly give it to her. I was very uncomfortable doing so. We were at this restaurant for over an hour and a half because of their computer problems. Did they offer to comp the dessert? Discount the bill? Nope. Then had me give my phone number so she could call me to get the credit card number. I have had better customer service at Discount Tires. Skip Taverna. There are many other restaurants downtown which are much nicer, better food, and a lot better customer service. read more

Went here after a happy hour in the neighborhood because we were still hungry and I'm glad we did. Their wine special was a great cabernet and an incredible deal at $5 a glass. We weren't tempted by the other specials, but they also include every pizza on the menu at basically half price. We saw one that we really liked and when ordering my wife lamented that there was nothing with pepperoni on it. The waiter said don't worry, we can make whatever you want. We ended up getting a second one with pepperoni and mushroom which they also gave us at the happy hour price. This is a great downtown stop for happy our and I'm a fan. I went with a dear friend who has never visit Austin and I raved about the food and ambience at Taverna. Made it to dinner and food was great as always. Service was beneath my expectations. I am in the industry and customer service is my number one rule in my book. I have visited Taverna many times and this was by far the rudest way to say it is time to leave. Our server at the beginning was lovely. Smiled and took our order. At the end another server came by and showed us his phone and said verbatim " I have 20 minutes to get my car before it gets towed and I cannot leave unless you leave". I understand there is a closing time, however there are ways to politely address this fact to patrons, and not in an aggressive way. Not a good way to introduce a first time guest to one of my top restaurants in the Second street district. read more

Taverna was one of the only places open able to feed people. Kailyn ran an overwhelming situation with patience and grace; I know most people wouldn't have been able to. She made sure to take care of every table and kept the restaurant running timely with top notch quality. Our meal was absolutely delicious and the wine was even better! We ordered the Taverna salad and we were disappointed when we received our food and it looked nothing like the quantity we saw online. Despite that, the salad did taste great. The restaurant is a great date spot and definitely worth your time but I have a few comments on improvement and what has been done great already. If you go, the patio is awesome and way more lively than the inside. The fake candles could be more realistic but those don't really matter. The red wine was great and suggested by our waiter. The waiter was attentive and helpful but not invasive. The Tartar dish I gave a 7.5 out of 10 and my date gave it a 8.5. The Margarita Pizza was the bomb. The Hazelnut Chocolate cake was a tad bit too rich but delicious at the same time. I also did not even have to ask for a check which was very nice. All in all, quick service, relaxed and a good time but not the best there ever was. read more

We are a in town for a conference at the Austin JW Marriott. Taverna is about 3 blocks west on Second in Austin. It is an easy walk. Our server, Nico was knowledgeable and showed a lot of insight about the menu choices. I was interested in the Polpo (Octopus) listed on their online menu. It was excellent. I also had the Frutti de Mare, again excellent. My wife had the Eggplant Parmigiana. Thin layers very tasty. We ate in an outdoor area and it was very pleasant. For dessert we had their cannolis. They were a little outside the box. The shells were infused with chocolate, the filling was mascarpone but with pistachios. They were served over a raspberry spread. The chocolate and pistachio are legitimate Italian flavors, but not typically combined with Cannolis. I thought this combination and the raspberry worked well. It was obvious that the shells were stuffed after we placed our order as they were fresh and crispy. Nico's service was excellent, the food was excellent and the ambiance was excellent. It is obvious to me that their Chef is very accomplished. read more

Huge bummer! I've been here many times and usually I'd say it's 4-5 stars. The cocktail list is nothing to write home about. If you plan to drink, go with the wine. We ordered 2 appetizers and 2 entrees, every single one came out tepid and was cold in less than 3 minutes. The zucchini chips and mussels were okay. The mussels are said to be cooked in a spicy red sauce, they mean marinara. The chips weren't as crispy as they usually were. Both were not good cold. Then we ordered the Gnocchi and salami pizza. The pizza was bad, not sure what cheese that was but the flavors did not mesh. I ate 2 slices before it was cold pizza and left it at that. read more

Downtown shopping got my girlfriend and I super hungry so we looked up a few close restaurants that were in walking distance. We walked by Taverna and saw how packed it was and smelt how amazing the food was from outside. We walked in through the front and went to the hostess stand where we were greeted by the hostess and he said the only swearing available was he heated patio (not that heated). He did sit us right next to the heater but it did not make much of a difference. Moments later we were greeted by our waitress who presented us with the menu and we decided to get some mimosas to start our day after our eventful shopping experience. We both ordered a mimosa to drink. I ordered a Spaghetti Alle Vongole (it has claims in it) and my girlfriend ordered a California pizza. Photos were taken in the review. Our experience with the food and drinks. The mimosas took about 10-15 minutes to come out to us because they have been busy and they didn't have enough chutes so they gave us our mimosas in a regular glass. My thoughts on the Spaghetti alle vongole...the clams were alright, pretty small but tasted decent, the spaghetti was ok..as well the dish did not supply enough sauce and I wasn't too pleasant about that. I tried a piece of my friend's pizza and it was actually pretty delicious! I'd definitely get the pizza again but not the spaghetti alle vongole. Ps. Women restroom doors are broken. Accidentally walked in on someone when the door was supposedly locked. My door couldn't completely lock either I could push it out myself once I locked it. read more

I've been to Taverna three times in the last three weeks with a rather large group each time and every single visit has been an absolute banger of a time. No issues with our reservation or seating, drinks are expertly crafted and the food is by far some of the best I've had in downtown Austin. I'd like to give a special shoutout to the server we've had each week, Cole, who goes above and beyond to make our dining experience truly memorable. Aside from fantastic food and beverages, the Baci section really ties the vibes all together. We recently heard the mixing styles of "The Founders" and they were the icing on the cake for the Saturday night downtown experience. Among the amazing time spent at taverna, my only gripe is thus: the bathroom stalls are not very discrete. Let's just say if I was making an Amazon purchase in the stall, an unlucky patron would be able to see the info on my card as they made their way to quietly relieve themselves. Nonetheless, Taverna by Lombardi should be at the top of your list as a brunch or fine dining staple in Downtown Austin. read more

Made a reservation for 9 people at 6pm. Table 33. Bobby was our waiter. He had no knowledge of wine list. Was rushed through the whole meal. Had to ask to order dessert. Was told 4 times that gratuity was included but anything we left extra would go straight to him. Was told at 8pm that we needed to leave because they had a new table coming at 8:15pm. I get that we were there a couple minutes before official opening time but I don't think that warrants sneering and not offering us at least to sit outside, which was clearly open (as were the front doors). We came here before ABBA. Servers gave us fifteen percent discount becayse they were busy and it took a while for food to come out. Chicken dish was wonderful as was bread and butter.
