The food they serve is very unique and seems to be artsy fusion or very non-traditional. We started by sharing the non-traditional arancini made with pretzels. They differed from traditional arancini but still were tasty. I tried the ahi salad and my husband had the Hawaii meets Philly steak. Both were reasonably good. In honor of our one year wedding staycation anniversary, I chose to reserve a table at Taverna. I initially chose it for their rooftop option but don't actually know if they have one since we ate inside. Our Panko calamari was good, we normally don't eat wasabi because it burns our nostrils but.. the sauce wasn't to overwhelming. I ordered the steak and shrimp combo.. reading is fundamental... bleu cheese on the steak threw me off and I had to scrap it all off. Steak was cooked right, I learned I prefer my steak more cooked as well. Let's just say I learned a lot about myself. My wife ordered lamb chops and she said they were good. I'm not a fan of lamb chops so I'll have to take her word for it. All in all, we'd come again for a more casual outing and try their other dishes. The location is nice and the decor is cool but the service wasn't the best. We were the only ones in the restaurant and our drinks were hardly refilled. Staff hanging out talking to each other while we waited for someone to bring the check - had to ask the hostess. The portions were so small and overpriced. Nothing to rave about. I get scared every time I see a restaurant feel the need to over-explain itself with 90s catchphrases like "fusion," "coastal-inspired," or "globally influenced." It's usually a good sign the establishment is... outdated at best. At worst? It's a culinary fever dream where logic--and flavor--go to die. Enter Taverna Costera in Las Vegas' Arts District. A name that whispers Mediterranean romance, seaside charm, and bold flavors from Greece to Morocco. Spoiler alert: there's absolutely nothing Mediterranean about this place unless you count the vague use of the word "taverna" and maybe a lonely olive in the bar garnish tray. This is, quite frankly.......really bad gaming bar food. Let's start with the cocktail. I only ordered one, because that was all I could mentally and physically handle. It was the Taverna Mule. Sounds safe, right? Wrong. This wasn't a mule. This was a sugar-drenched, apple-scented fever dream of someone who once watched a TikTok about bartending. It tasted like someone challenged an Applebee's bartender to "ruin a mule" and then sweetened it for the kids' menu. I genuinely hate to slander Applebee's here--they'd never stoop to this level. Now, before we get to the food, let me say this: if the ambiance was supposed to be "abandoned vape shop meets high school hookah night," then bravo. Especially with the bonus sensory touch of every single staff member smelling like a half-used pack of Marlboro Reds. Our server? Eau de break room ashtray. The person from the kitchen who wandered by our table three times? Smelled like he just stubbed out a cig in the aioli. On to the "Turkish Egg." Oh boy. This dish gave me trust issues. Whatever that object was on my plate may have once been an egg, but by the time it arrived it had been boiled into a rubber dog toy, shellacked with generic chili crunch from a jar I'm pretty sure I saw at Walmart, and buried under a chaotic forest of microgreens. A classic trick from the "fusion" playbook: when in doubt, smother it with greenery and hope no one notices you can't actually cook. It came with a piece of toast that was less "crisp and golden" and more "salvage from a toaster fire." I won't even get into my wife's dish out of mercy--for her and for you, dear reader. Suffice it to say, nothing we ate (or attempted to) had any identity, coherence, or even basic warmth. The place has an extreme case of restaurant-level identity crisis: trying to be trendy, sexy, global, local, casual, fine-dining, speakeasy, sports bar, nightclub, and food truck--all at once. Result? Utter chaos. The service? Completely absent. We didn't touch our food. No one asked why. Plates were cleared with the same emotional engagement you get at the DMV. Not even a "Was everything alright?" Which, honestly, would've been a dangerous question to ask. In finality, Taverna Costera is the culinary equivalent of someone who shows up to a costume party dressed as a concept no one understands. Confused, over-perfumed, and devoid of soul. Tried Taverna for the first time and the food wasn't great. i really cant tell if they are trying to be a Hawaiian restaurant or if they just have a range of things on the menu but the concept is confusing. My waitress was also just so so. They seemed to be a little disorganized and the food did not come out as ordered. The night I was there they had live music. I normally love live music but it was so loud it made it difficult to talk to the friends I was with and ultimately didn't make the experience great. I think Taverna had some things to figure out but I wish them the best and will give them one more try before I mark them off my list. read more

My friends and I go downtown a lot and have never seen this place before so we decided to stop in. As we saw a seat yourself sign we made it to our table. we notice every person we walked by had not even had menus at there table but it didn't catch our attention until we too were sitting at our table for 10 min before anyone came up to us or dropped a menu off. The service was beyond slow that we were not the only ones in the place getting ready to complain. It was not packed. It was not busy in the establishment so we were confused. We ordered a shot of vodka on their happy hour menu for $3 which was a nice touch, but we also ordered an appetizer which were the lollipop wings. We sat at our table for over 30 min before any food hit our table and during that time we weren't even asked what to order for our main course. We decided since we couldn't get fast enough service to cash out at the bar since we don't know where our server ever was and leave after the lollipop wings. I just wouldn't return because I don't want to be stuck in a situation like that again. Not to mention when the wings did come out he got our sauce wrong. So we were traveling around downtown looking for a restaurant to eat at and we selected Taverna. We absolutely loved this place. Everything that we ordered was very fresh and I have enclosed some pictures, but I didn't take a picture of the Loco Moco, which was huge. Started out with the avocado bruschetta. My dining partner tried their flatbread pizza, and you're looking at a drink that we never had in our lives. It is mazagran. It's a cold drink with coffee and lemonade or lemon juice. It sounds funny, but it actually was really good. In closing. The service was great. Taverna Costera has been open for just about a year. I go to a theatre across the street quite often, but I never paid much attention to Taverna. Coming from a play one night, I saw the name in lights, and I decided I would need to try it. I had a 5 PM play on Sunday. What better time to try Taverna by coming there first and then going to the play. I went to the door at the corner of Boulder and First but saw a sign "Diners" and an arrow pointing to the other entrance at the other corner of the building. The entrance where I was is the entrance to the bar. When I came in, I was at the dining room. I was asked if I wanted to sit in the dining room, in the bar, or on the patio. I chose the patio as it was a pleasant November afternoon. I was shown to a four top. It was a super place to have early dinner. My server, Stephanie, came over and asked about drinks. She brought my iced tea andf then answered questions I had. When I see tapas and shareables, I have to know if they are OK for the solo diner. After some explanation, I opted for the Paniola burger which the menu describes as: a burger with pineapple BBQ, gorgonzola cheese, crispy onions, tomato, and ranch dressing. Burgers come with fries or salad. I opted for the fries. While waiting for dinner, I noticed the TV panels over the door and I was able to watch a football game. Then the burger arrived and it was time to dig in. The burger was good. I didn't get much pineapple flavor but that was OK. The cheese and crispy onions along with the ranch dressing were where the flavor came from. The burger was well done. I didn't ask when I ordered if I could have it on the rare side but I never thought of asking and would have preferred it to be less cooked. Stephanie checked back to make sure everything was OK. She was just a delightful and helpful person! When it came time, she brought a dessert menu. I opted for the Basque cheesecake cup. In a short time, she returned to tell me they were out of them so I took option #2, the deconstructed ice cream sandwich--a deep fried bao bun, vegan vanilla coconut ice cream, fresh berries, and coconut raspberry chocolate syrup. The bao was lightly browned and was separated in two pieces. There was no chocolate with the raspberry syrup. The ice cream had no coconut taste but tasted solely of vanilla. However, this a really different dessert and it was very good! I was brought the bill and I paid with my iPhone using the QR code on the bill! Boy I like this way of paying. I left, went across the street, and entered the theatre just as the house opened! Great timing after a good meal! Ambiance: Last Thursday night was my first time to enjoy a visit to Taverna Costera! Located in the heart of the "Arts' District", Taverna offers a relaxed and trendy vibe, good service and what I considered overpriced food. I KNOW it will get VERY noisy if they have live music and more people in the dining room. So, I recommend checking ahead what they have going on during your visit. Food: I asked about the cauliflower and chicken dish and they no longer offer it. I ended up with a $32 bowl of rice, a few pieces of fatty beef and shrimp that was basic at best. I left a good portion in the bowl. I also had the Passion Fruit Sorbet $8, which cleaned the taste of the rice bowl concoction from my pallet. If I visit again, I'll read the menu more carefully and try something different and more memorable. Service: I had made dinner reservations online through Yelp for 5:30 and planned to attend the music venue on the rooftop at 7pm. To my surprise the dining room had plenty of seating. It wasn't noisy because their weren't very many customers. So, that made for good service. All the staff I encountered were friendly and efficient. Rooftop: There is a stairway AND elevator to the rooftop venue. There's a large bar, small stage and limited seating (so get there early if you want to get a seat). They also have fans with mist systems to cool the air. (much appreciated). Final Thoughts: Call ahead to find out what's going on during your visit, read the menu carefully and check out the Happy Hour Menu and Tapas offers! Taverna has a new chef & a new fall brunch menu that is absolutely crushing life! It is seriously so delicious! I've been dying to check them out for awhile and Sunday was the perfect opportunity. My favorite dish was the strawberry Belgian waffle sliders. They're like a fancy McGriddle, I loved the balance of salty and sweet. My runner up was the hamburger Katsu curry moco. A delicious take on a Hawaiian moco with a Japanese curry flare. Seriously tasty! The portions on all the dishes are huge & I don't think I tried anything I really didn't like. Running errands in the downtown LV area and wanted an informal outdoor dinner. Based on Yelp photos and reviews, Taverna Costera fit the bill. Street parking at 5 PM on a Wednesday - no problem. We had our pick of tables on their rear patio (see photo). There were a bunch of high tops and a choice of couches to pick from. We went with a high top. Michael, our server, was by right away to answer questions about the menu and make helpful suggestions. Service was excellent throughout. Happy hour has $5 margaritas and half price on a bunch of the shared plates. We shared the Cracked Corn Riblets (HH price $7.50). Nice presentation of 5 small corn cobs with a spicy mayo, Parmesan and tajin sauce - not at all spicy and very tasty. We also got Portabello Mushroom Risotto ($22). Another nice presentation of sliced portabello mushrooms over a generous portion of pretzel mushroom risotto and broccolini. DELISH!!! FANTASTIC Sunday brunch. DJ Ikai'ka and DJ Day Won spinning 90s-2000s tunes during brunch. We had a great experience. I got the veggie omelet ($12)and bottomless drinks ($20). How affordable is that for bottomless drinks? They had mimosas and bloody Mary's but I got just champagne. The server was very attentive in bringing our additional drinks. He was a bit slow with taking our order and clearing the table, also we had to get our own water as he didn't refill our waters. The interior of the restaurant is gorgeous. Lots of local artists' artwork on the walls for sale. Great location in the arts district. We took a look upstairs at the rooftop bar (it was not open yet) and the setup and view is amazing. E X P E R I E N C E: Absolutely TERRIBLE. Seated right away and since everything sounded good, it took a while for us to decide what we wanted to order. One of my friends is allergic to gluten and had asked our server which items were GF. Server looked over the menu, almost as if they didn't want to look over it and didn't know which ones had gluten and even asked if rice was gluten. She left after taking our order. After some time, she returned and asked in a bit of an irritated/uninterested/deadpan tone, "are you allergic to gluten or just don't eat it?" Why should it matter? If someone mentions no gluten in their meal, there shouldn't be any additional questioning about someone's food preferences. For a place that had three occupied tables and a million servers at the time we went (which was about 6:45/7pm-ish on a Friday night), our food took FOREVER to arrive. Almost 30mins and not all the food came out at once. Probably about 7min intervals of food arrival. Our server didn't even ask if we needed anything, like extra utensils, napkins, condiments, etc. It was an assumptive, "you're good right?" And then left without waiting for an answer. Our water cup was never refilled. The server never came in between meals to check in on us. When a food item was missing, server was a bit dismissive, went to back and 10mins later came back with it. At the end of our meal, we asked if we could only order the ube ice cream without the Mochi muffins because we literally didn't need to wait another 30mins for that to come out. WE WERE WRONG. It took 20mins for the TWO SCOOPS of ice cream to be brought to us. So it takes about ten minutes per scoop. I guess the ice cream was really frozen. We obviously didn't learn our lesson to ask for the check when the ice cream arrived because that took another 15mins. But when we were paying, the server came over quick and made sure we paid AND started to clean our table. F O O D: Overpriced food you can clearly make yourself. Yes, it was delicious but it was tainted from the entire experience. The food is the reason this review isn't a one star review. I'm assuming the food is to resemblance fine dining since the plating and the ambiance is nice. We ordered a lot of tapas to share, a bowl and a pizza. Everything we ate was delicious. Steak was medium rare and bit too chewy for my taste. The arancini was delicious, but it was cold when it got to us. The Japanese street corn was surprisingly tasty. I enjoyed the flavor. The cheese for the kalua pork nachos were already hardened (after being melted) so that was sad. When the pizza arrived, we noticed it was a flour crust and NOT a cauliflower crust. Also, a big note: the description of the food isn't complete. The musubi didn't mention there was egg in it. One person at my table was allergic to egg. And when we asked for one without egg, that took 20mins to get to us. So be wary when ordering. Personally, I tend to overlook the service and focus on the food but I was utterly disappointed. I won't be returning but I'm hoping that they improve on their service, work on their order to table turn around time, and take a customer service 101 training course. read more

Came in yesterday with some friends because we saw a TikTok saying how good it was. IT WAS NOT. We walked in and waiting 15 minutes to even been seen or seated. I'm convinced they were not coming because they did not want to serve us. I went to look at the live music since we were waiting anyways. A server seemed upset I was standing there watching asking me what I was doing... Then said wait for the host. I told her I was just curious to see the band and she rolled her eyes. They have angry orchard for gluten-free beer and a very nice cocktail list. Cocktail wise I had the Bash the Flash which is an old fashion with a twist. Another whiskey drink was this rosemary infused whiskey with a rosemary sprig and a dried blood orange on top, called Rosemary's Baby it was amazing. Food wise is pretty much Mediterranean Asian fusion mostly Korean. I had the shrimp kimchi fried rice, mouth watering. The hubby had the Moroccan chicken, it was amazingly seasoned on a bed of orzo. What a great find. First, I love that they feature local artists' art throughout the restaurant. Walk down the halls and view some cool paintings. Luckily for me, they were featuring a few Hawaii themed art. Lol, I loved the "pakalolo." There's a roof top bar, and they have live music and / or a DJ.
