First impressions are last impressions, and this encounter was rough. Approaching the Restuarant at 7:53pm, half the chairs were put up already. (By the time, I am writing this at 8:30PM, ALL of the other chairs are up on the surrounding tables and booths). There was no digital menu above the counter to display their offerings and the respective prices. There were two menus on the counter with every price point blacked out. (See the pictures). And then the cashier said the only proteins available are chicken and steak. I ordered a Teri Chicken plate and my girlfriend ordered the Teri Steak plate, both a "For Here" order. I was met with price at the counter, and I suppose no choice but to pay whatever the register displayed. Food was quick and ready in 10 minutes. It tasted fine to make up for the experience. I really thought a "For Here" order would include utensils and napkins, but it did not. I did end up grabbing utensils and napkins, but they are on opposite sides of the counter at the front. I can't help but wonder, If I asked for my meal "To Go", would those basic necessities have been included with my meal? The interior was spacious, and it felt clean. Just not inviting, nor guest-friendliest. Hawaiian food spots are saturated in Vegas, and unfortunately there's not a compelling reason for me to return. 2.5 Stars / 5.0 Stars.

I'm sad about this place because it really was a spot where you could grab a plate and split it with two easily. Not only that but it just felt welcoming and you could see them grilling the meat right beside you. This new location in the same plaza is not it. The inside is desolate, spread open chairs with hardly anyone inside, the ambiance is gone. There's a young girl working the front register and her mom is in the back grilling. I took a kalbi plate to go and walking back to my car it just felt so light! 6 pieces of this small meat and barely two scoops of rice for $21! The salad and its dressing were the best part. Well I had my craving whatever it was but now it's time to part ways and support another business.

On a work trip in Vegas and I need to hit my protein for the day and I was debating on getting southern BBQ or Hawaiian BBQ. When traveling I usually lean towards Hawaiian BBQ as I have better luck since Southern BBQ is a crap shoot. Matiki didn't disappoint. When I opened the box I literally said "holy " it smelled so good and was piled high with meat. The neat was flavorful and delicious. It was so good that I had to remind myself to slow down and chew . The only thing keeping this from being a 5 rating is that that Mac salad had little potatoes in it. That threw me off and was the only thing I didn't finish. All in all great first meal in Vegas. I will definitely get this again before I leave.

Walking in, you are greeted to an elongated restaurant that is beautifully decorated. I also love the Hawaiian style music playing. Service was super quick and ordering was a breeze. After many recommendations I came for the Beef Ribs; also known as "Sam's Plate". With a tip it was about $21. The plate was definitely filled to the brim. The meat was good, however extremely fatty. Some bones were just covered in more fat than meat and it was a bit off putting. However about half the meat I was able to dig off was delish, while the other half was super charred and burnt. Overall its a large portion of food for the price, but it may not be everyones cup of tea. I would love to come back and try some other options next time

I've been to the Pecos location before and was in a cafe nearby, so I decided to try this location for a quick bite. Walking in, the place was VERY spacious. Music wasn't too loud and the space was well kept and clean. The tables were spaced with good distance which is an upgrade from their previous location in the plaza. There were other people waiting for food, but I had only ordered 2 OG Musubi. I'm assuming the staff gotten busy right after my order because I could hear the receipts printing out in the back. Regardless, the food came out quick, but the musubis were quite disappointing. The two that I had ordered were different sizes and the ratio of spam to rice was very off. It was a thick musubi, but it was because it was 3/4 rice and the thinnest cut of spam. The spam itself was not browned or crispy on the outside, which I did not mind, but just something to note. The OG musubis are $4 which is fair considering they add tax in the price, but I was taken aback at paying that for just rice. Benefit of the doubt, they got busy and also moved so they're still trying to adjust.

The meats are SO GOOD. Let's the honest, the good spots in Vegas are always off the strip. I'm glad someone in my group recommended/suggested we try out this spot on our last visit! The service was friendly, menu was reasonable, and portions were huge. Like everyone else, we were super curious about the beef ribs so had to get that to share. I can never pass up a kalbi so we got the two combo plates to share. 6 ribs are pretty generous and we ended up splitting the ribs between 3 people. I loved the char on the meats sine it's grilled over an open flame and with the marinade, the meats were super juicy. Would have loved to try more things like the musubi and chicken but I'll have to save that for next time. Plenty of parking in the large plaza; pretty much all of the flavors of Hawaiian Sun in the fridge.

Beef rib plate with a side of short ribs

Definitely adding this place to my list of places to come back to. Generous portions and friendly service. Great music choice and just good vibes. We went with the beef ribs and a side of short ribs and the flavor spot on what you should expect it to taste like. Savory, slightly sweet, and it makes you want to gnaw every last bit of meat off the bone.

This restaurant was interesting... how have you been around since 1996 but you have no menus or anything anywhere with any prices? My other half and I walked in the doors at 7:55pm, closing is at 9pm. Half of the restaurant was already closed down with chairs stacked on tables. Yuck. Next, you have to do all of your ordering at the register with ZERO prices and only a catering menu available with all of those prices covered with black marker. You don't know how much you're paying for anything until you order and they tell you the total, lol!!! Teri chicken was $18 and Teri beef is $21. That blew my hair back, lol! I started writing this review before I even got my food. It was decent but nothing special. I could name drop a few other places with similar portions and cheaper prices in the area but I won't. Side note, the mac salad tastes like potato salad... oh wait! They put potatoes in the mac salad... smh... this was the first time I have ever had mac salad with potatoes in it. That was such a weird experience. Like picking up a red lollipop, expecting it to taste like cherry, and instead it tastes like garlic. And if you order to eat inside, your food comes in to go containers anyway, you have to get your own utensils, napkins, sauces, and drinks on the other side of the restaurant. My significant other tipped and I have no clue why. I would say that no tipping is required at this restaurant. It's like a food truck inside a building so at least there are tables and chairs. Not sure I'll be back but enjoy if you do take a chance and go.

    1. Beef Rib Plate & Spam Mac Musubi & spam lovers musubi
    Krystal B.

The food? Bomb. The vibes inside from the music? Next level. This location is actually to the right of the sandwich shop and to the left of cafe 86. *dont go to the northern most part of the parking area! I believe that's the old location? Anyways...the place itself is fairly intimate with a couple of tables inside and bar seating along the entire side wall. However, our group of 10 were able to sit just fine together pushing some tables and chairs together. (And putting them back, of course!) Islander vibes all around with the painted wall and huge window showing them grilling and firing up all the meats. The food: we got the beef rib plate with 1 Mac and 2 scoop rice, and 2 spam Musubis (1 spam mac & 1 spam lovers). Sooo good. The beef Ribs were a bit messy to eat, but that grill/charcoal type taste was delicious. I'm also a big fan of the Spam Mac musubi. So much so that I just used the Mac from our plate to put on the second spam lovers one LOL. It was fun Interacting with the guys in the kitchen, especially when a fun song came on. Can't stop us from singing along and vibing with the kitchen crew when Mario, Chris brown, neyo throwback songs come on! Prettt bummed I didn't ask for the playlist lol. Overall will be back to try even more. (My lil bro got the Kalbi and I def want more of that, too!)

    Chicken box
    Shari L.

Come here often for the chicken box which was always good but this time ordered on Yelp door dash wanted to just pick up instead of waiting plus they had a deal. Bought 3 chicken box with $7 off. But was so disappointed it looked like children meals with a lot of fat and some pink. Is it a door dash thing that you give less? Usually i can eat this for 2 meals but this portion didn't even fill me. It's really iffy if i even want to eat here again.

Kailua pig and cabbage water as f. Why?
    Staci B.

This place sucked straight up they were out of the ribs everyone wants. I probably saw 15 people come in and they left me and my husband was there by our self. I got the Kailua pig with cabbage (was ok but way too watery) he got the short ribs which were tough and burnt. The teenage boy acted like he didn't give a dang about his job. It was a disaster and we will never come again. By the way hubs was told they can't get the ribs any longer . A problem with manufacturing or some such. You have been warned!! I don't recommend this place at all!!! Please just don't think about coming here . It's a disaster !!

    Mae T.

Matiki is known for their beef ribs and that's what we came for! You can smell them cooking from outside! Usually there's a rush but surprisingly this time it was empty! We ordered the beef rib plate with rice and salad and also added one of their musubis (forgot to take a pic) There are a couple tables and one long counter top with stools. You can watch them grilling the ribs through the big window while you wait. The ribs are ginormous and the meat falls right off the bone. The meat is tender and juicy and full of flavor. The musubi I got was good. It had spam and mac salad. We have yet to try their other menu items! We just can't stray from those ribs!

    Ev D.

Amazing customer service... The second you walk in you're welcomed with a smile and an energetic, friendly greeting. I was in the mood for something lite so I went with some Mac salad, which I loved and a veggie rice bowl, which was meatless, healthy, and very tasty. They have several other great looking menu items that I look forward to trying on the next go round. FYI: The restaurant is currently located next-door to Wingstop, but the manager informed me that Matiki Island BBQ will be relocating to the other side of the exact same shopping center that it's currently located in. The relocation will take place two months from today (7/25)

Pro tip: worth it!!! The place itself is super clean and welcoming, which immediately set the tone. What we ordered (aka the greatest hits): * Sapasui (noodles w vegetables & meat) - perfectly seasoned, comforting, and impossible to stop eating. * Povi Masima (coned beef brisket) - brined just right and not overly salty like some other spots (huge win). * Paifala (pineapple half moon pie) - piping hot, fresh out of the oven. We actually had to wait five whole minutes for it... and I'd gladly wait ten more. Light, buttery, flaky perfection. * Talo & Fa'i (taro & plantain, the starch to pair w entree) - perfectly simmered with great texture, and that coconut sauce? Chef's kiss!!!! * Palusami (taro leaves simmered in coconut milk) - theirs has povi in it!! I've never had palusami with meat before and now I'm wondering why everyone isn't doing this. Soooo good!!!!! Long story short: everything was incredibly fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. She can create all types of tiki drinks. There are gambling bar tops, too. They comp standard drinks when playing. They have their own parking lot. They have bottled beer, no draughts. No food. Lots of conversation and videos to enjoy.

Welcome to Frankie's Tiki Room…read more This Iconic Tiki bar on Charleston Blvd/Shadow Ln on the east side of Downtown Las Vegas. It's the world's only 24 hour Tiki Bar, opening its doors in December of 2008, nearly 18 full years ago. It has a spacious but limited parking lot, bright neon sign, cool outside entrance and even more wonder inside. True to tiki decor with island themed fixtures, tables, patterns, seating and ambiance. Hints of surfing culture, rockabilly and retro. Perfect signature original or classic tiki drinks via their menu as well as full bar, soft drinks and beer. The Makalele Knockout is probably one of my personal favs with rum(s), lime, hibiscus and a incredible blend of flavors. However the Tiki Bandit, Frankiestein, Dr No, ScruV and numerous others might speak to you. I've been to Frankie's a few times about 10 years ago, so it was nice to stop in with a group of buds and share some convo as well as meet up with my oldest best friend and her wife, who ironically is who I came to Frankie's with those first times a decade ago. All tiki drinks are currently $15 and well worth it. You're able to drink, gamble (at the bar), smoke, converse, sway (good music) but limited space and enjoy the night or day away. Seating goes quick at night, especially on weekends, but arriving earlier (before 8pm) can help. Sometimes tables, seats and areas open up faster if you're patient. All the staff, including the bartenders and door guy are thoughtful and personable. We eventually got part of the area that's slightly enclosed with a great view of the entire bar especially being a group of 6 to 8 at once point. High recommend.

Probably the best Hawaiian food I've had in Las Vegas so far. I usually judge Hawaiian spots by…read morethree things: the quality of their macaroni salad, the eggs on their loco moco, and their spam musubi. Frank's macaroni salad wasn't the absolute best I've had, but it was genuinely good--surprisingly better than Zippy's, a true Hawaii staple. The loco moco was excellent: the eggs were perfectly cooked, bright yellow and so delicate they looked like they'd break if you stared at them too long. You get two juicy hamburger patties and two generous scoops of rice, making it easy to stretch into two solid meals. The spam musubi was fresh and still warm (we ordered right at opening at 11 AM and picked it up by 11:30). They added a touch of teriyaki sauce between the rice and spam, which I'm usually not a fan of, but it actually worked really well here. The salty, grilled spam still shone through. The spot itself is a classic Hawaiian BBQ cafe--simple, no-frills, with a mix of sit-down tables and to-go boxes flying out the door. You could tell they had just opened but were already deep into the lunch rush. Even so, service was impressively smooth. We were quoted about 20 minutes, but I walked in, hit a short line, and was back out the door with piping-hot food in under five minutes. I'll definitely be coming back for some Hawaiian comfort food.

Service was friendly and we ordered the poke nachos, wit garlic salmon and Hawaiian ahi. Also a mixed plate with kalua pig and garlic chicken. Really wanted Lau lau but they were sold out. Ahi katsu looked good as well , but ahi is cooked all the way through instead of rare, so we passed. Poke nachos were yummy. Good portion and poke was fresh. Love the wonton chips. Mixed plate was standard. Mac salad was made with spaghetti noodles, not my jam. Be advised in July they will be moving next door into Da Hale. We will be back for the poke nachos. Mahalo!
