Why on earth r u open for lunch and have no pastas on your menu? How wrong is that for an Italian place? We were the only people there as well which doesn't boad well at all. Two of us had the mahi sandwich. Came with salad consisting of some lettuce and tiny bit of dressing or chips out of a bag.. fresh French fries would be a nicer touch. First, I came to this particular Italian restaurant based on reviews that mentioned great gluten-free options. NOT TRUE. But let's start from the beginning. Annoyance began with the receptionist whose English was either so bad that she couldn't understand my request that my kids receive adult menus or was too dim-witted. I suspect it was a language barrier because we experienced the same issue with the girl who provided us waters when my daughter mistakenly thought she was our server and asked if they had strawberry lemonade. Definite language barrier issue. But the real moronic behavior occurred when our waiter arrived and I asked about gluten free options. He proceeded to identify the non-bread items on the menu (such as the crudo) to tell us that there was no gluten in crudo. When we stopped him to explain that we understand what types of foods don't have gluten and were asking about bread and pasta options, he got snippy. Then explained that they do not have any gluten-free bread products, but they can make a penne pasta that is gluten-free. Not what I was expecting based on other reviews I had read so I want to let others know how limited their options are if someone is hoping for gluten-free pasta. Mind you, I had also put in the notes of our Open Table reservation that we were interested in gluten-free options. Apparently no one reads the reservation notes... As a result of all of this discussion (related to 1 person in our party who is trying to limit gluten), I guess they decided to never bring bread to our table cause I saw bread arrive at all of our surrounding tables that were sat after us. In addition to ordering a Mai Tai, we brought a bottle of Far Niente Cab. We asked to have it opened. Had to ask twice in order to get the waiter to open it. After that first pour from the waiter, no one ever came back to pour our wine for us. We started with 2 appetizers to share. Then we ordered 2 entrees to share. We like to take our time at dinner. The plan was to then order another couple items. But when they brought out the 2 entrees, they spilled my husband's glass of wine (that I had just filled up), all over the table. Multiple plates were covered and the lasagna dish also had a couple ounces of the wine poured into it. But no rush to clean and clear items. No suggestion of how to compensate for the full glass of our expensive wine that you just spilled. Then, as the cleaning is happening, the waiter comes over and says he doesn't know what happened and asks if one of our kids spilled the wine. ‍ The lasagna (flooded with wine) is still sitting on the table with the suggestion that we should enjoy it. The waiter asks us if we want a new lasagna, which should have been an unnecessary question. Clearly the kitchen has not instilled any sense of propriety into the front of the house as to how the food should be eaten. Drenched in wine...whatever. They did bring a new lasagna dish eventually and didn't charge us for it. They still charged us the $30 corkage and no offer for a free glass of wine to compensate for our spilled wine. We knew we had to get out of there and quickly ended our meal at that point. I obviously do not recommend this place. That said, outdoor seating does provide beautiful views of the golf course. And the food we ate was tasty. But this is hands down the worst service I've ever seen anywhere on this island during my 11 visits over the many years. read more

Hooooooooleeeeee Sh*t!!!! I don't know why this place doesn't have 6 stars. I've had a lot of fish entrees in nice restaurants in my life but this is one of the best entrees I've ever had! We had the fried seafood entree as an appetizer with shrimp and calamari and it was a true beauty. Cooked to perfection with a pair of lovely light sauces (an aioli and a marinara). So we were all pretty locked into the idea that the place was NICE Then they brought the entrees. I had the catch of the day, and my lovely wife had a little number off the menu. She really wanted seafood pasta and this awesome tattooed woman who I think was just a busser was like "Im a chef I know exactly what you want.... Seafood in the tomato sauce". Well they cooked that up for her and it was the hyper ninja bomb. She had a little left over in a to go box. We shall battle for leftovers. Don't forget my catch of the day. Seriously one of the best seafood entrees I've ever had in my life. It was in this super dope white wine butter and fancy mushroom sauce all seared to perfection. I could have eloped with that piece of fish it was so phenomenal. The ambiance of the restaurant is impeccable. The music on the PA is all super sophisticated deep house. Tiki torches burning against a Hawaiian nautical sunset with an immaculately groomed golf course in the foreground. Omg why didn't we go here every day we were in Maui??!!! Taverna is a nice restaurant if you're staying on the west side of the island. The restaurant has parking and has both indoor and outdoor dining. The hostess checked our vaccination cards, which added a level of comfort that all diners around us were vaccinated. The restaurant is nicely decorated with modern finishings. Overall the food was surprisingly tasty and clearly made with high quality ingredients. It's a bummer they charge you for bread, this is typically complimentary on the mainland. We really enjoyed the deconstructed salad. The Neapolitan style Margherita pizza was good, not amazing. The lasagna had great flavors but was lacking in layers, it was more spread out. Overall, I would recommend Taverna if you're looking for an Italian fix while in Maui. read more

We were excited by the pictures on Yelp but found out that most of the food in the pics are only available for dinner or happy hour : ( No pasta for lunch except a lasagna. Other than that, come here for lunch if you'd like to enjoy a nice golf course view or some wood fire pizzas or sandwiches. The pizzas are folded. I don't think it makes any difference though. We had lunch at Taverna, which is located in West Maui, in a golf course complex in Kapalua. We really enjoyed our lunch and made reservations to return last night for dinner. In between, I checked out reviews on Yelp and discovered a fair number of negative reviews, mainly related to service. So when we walked in at 7 PM and found the place packed and people waiting to be seated, I immediately started worrying about what our experience would be. We were seated very quickly. Water was offered, and shortly afterward, Jaimie arrived and said she would be taking care of us. She waited patiently while we figured out drink orders and left us to decide what we wanted to eat. Jaimie shared the specials for the evening and let us know they were sold out of the spinach ravioli with lemon sauce. Shirley was disappointed as she had decided on that after her first glance at the menu. We asked her to bring us grilled asparagus, 6 ounce cup of marinated olives, and bread to share for table. Jaimie returned very quickly, in my opinion, with drinks, and our chosen starters followed shortly afterward. Shirley chose the potato soup with lemon oil and Caesar salad, I chose Linguini with clams. Our friends chose Linguini with clams and pasta carbonara. The mfood was brought to our table in a remarkably short time. We were all very happy with our selections, they were really good. For desserts, we got 3 Affogatos and one Tiramisou, perfect way to end our meal. The restaurant is loud, which would be our only minor complaint. The food and Jaimie's service were without fault. She is young, super friendly, professional, and very attentive. Our friends own a restaurant and bar in South of France, and we owned a restaurant in Sonoma County, CA, for 10 years. Capping off a terrific day in Kapalua was our dinner at Taverna. The vibe is warm and inviting, and as soon as you walk in the door you see this huge, we'll-stocked bar. Taverna will certainly inspire you to belly up to the bar and order a favorite cocktail. It's the perfect set up to chat with friends or watch sports on TV. I was on a big weekend of celebrating and was only drinking Italian white wine that night. There were plenty of drink choices, mine was just simple that evening and I was totally pleased. We were there for a group dinner that Saturday night. The main meal was a prefixed dinner consisting of mahi-mahi and steak, better known as surf and turf. The fish was prepared with Italian tomato-based, red sauce with capers. The flavor combination was amazing and my fish was cooked perfectly. That's a most impressive accomplishment since we were a large group of 48 people. The steak was OK, tender and juicy -but beef is not what I typically eat in the islands. It's all about the seafood. The reality is that on this visit to Kapalua, I barely scratched the surface at Taverna and what they have to offer. With terrific food, drinks, and ambience, let's just do it again. Hubby and I decided to go out to eat for Valentine's Day, and after perusing menus online, we decided upon this lovely restaurant. I could practically taste the yummy looking lasagna featured on their online menu, and my tummy was doing a happy dance. Unfortunately, it wasn't being offered that evening since they had a special menu for the special day. I went ahead and ordered the linguine con vogle, which was very flavorful. Hubby ordered the short ribs, which he said were just "okay". We both ordered dessert. I really enjoyed eating their delicious tiramisu, especially since I'd never eaten that treat before. We hosted our wedding rehearsal dinner at Taverna last month and we had a truly wonderful experience! I worked closely with the events manager, Erica, leading up to our event and she was always very communicative, responsive and accommodating. She made sure every detail was perfect! Day of the event, Julie and Steve & staff took excellent care of our party. They were attentive, friendly and always made sure everyone's glass was full. We reserved half of the lanai patio which was perfect for our party because it was semi-private but we still had a beautiful view of the golf course and sunset. The kids loved running around on the grass too :) The food was the star of the show. We did a family style meal for our guests which included a few salads salads, pizzas, veggies, grilled porkchop & steak and dessert. Personal favorites were the brussel sprouts and steak. Everything was cooked to perfection and the portions were HUGE. We sent a lot of our guests home with lots of leftovers to eat for the remainder of the trip. Many of our guests told us it was the best meal they had on Maui. Mahalo Taverna for amazing experience. It was the best way to kick off our wedding weekend and we couldn't have been happier. I've been coming to Maui for 40 years, but never been to the Tavern in Kapalua. Really good Italian food particularly considering it's at the golf clubhouse. We were starving so.... We also got the fried shrimp & calamari. We only got 3 shrimp. They were good but the calamari wasn't good so we didn't finish. That dish was $21. They get minus one star right off the bat as they have a ridiculous policy of not seating before 5:30. If I make a reservation at 5:30, you can count on me getting there at 5:20. I abhor being late. Also the taverna salad and the meatballs. The meatballs were pretty gross but my dad ate them anyway. They tasted pretty weird and were kind of hard. The salad in contrast was great! arugula with lovely cheese and grapes. The mains were good. My lasagna was really good albeit a tiny bit too cheesy (something I thought I would never say). The proportions were just a bit off. Star of the night was the Tiramisu. Some of the best I've had with what tasted like REAL pastry cream and not some weird whipped cream. Great flavor.
