Yum! This was my first visit. I stopped in for some takeout at lunch. The restaurant is gorgeous inside. Hands down the nicest Pho place I've been in. The Pork Vermicelli was excellent. The pork was super lean and not fatty like some other places I've been to. Both ladies that helped me were super nice and pleasant. I was a little worried it would be pricey since it was so nice inside but the prices are comparable to other Pho places. I have been a big fan of Vietnamese food all my life, but I felt unsatisfied of the quality that was brought to me. I ordered the Bun Bo Hue, which is typically extremely flavorful and spicy, but Pho Tay Ho's had neither. My meal was extremely watered down with no taste whatsoever. My friend ordered the Com Thit Nuong (broken rice with grilled pork) and he was extremely frustrated with how the pork tasted. The fish sauce was also super bland. Also, one of my friend is a vegan who ordered a vegetarian fried rice without eggs, but ended up getting eggs in it. Of course, its not a problem to fix, but they ended up giving him plain rice with peas on top. HORRIBLE. The only reason why I am giving this one star is because of how beautiful the restaurant is renovated. I am not much of a food critic but it seems they get picked on because of the beautiful building. To me it stacks up well against the competition. I have always been a big pho person and when a friend recommended me to tay-ho I was excited. My husband and I have been going here for three years now and their food is amazing. I always get their p2 with eye of round in it and the broth is always perfection and the noodles are super tasty and the eye of round is awesome too since it soaks in the broth! My husband sometimes get the beef and broccoli with rice and it's absolutely amazingly. I highly recommend this place to anyone who loves Thai food and definitely if they love pho! read more

It was a rainy nasty Wednesday and I was craving some pho! Since my usual go to is closed on Wednesdays I decided to give this place a try. I have been here on a couple other occasions but for their broken rice dishes (which have always been delicious). On this trip I decided to go with the Spicy Beef Noodle Soup while my friend opted for the traditional Pho dac biet. My soup wasn't as spicy as I thought it could be, but some added sriracha helped. What we didn't like for both of our soups was that the meat was SUPER fatty. I may have had about 2 thin okay pieces of beef. On top of that I had a cow HOOF, yes HOOF in my bowl O_o but whatever I tossed that out, and also two unidentified pieces of meat which I later found out were pork patties? I just assumed since I ordered a beef dish that no pork would be involved since it is not listed in the item description. Blah. In the end I would highly recommend their appetizers such as the rocket shrimp and any of their broken rice dishes. Also, the restaurant is pretty clean and spacious and the waitresses have always been sweet to me! I just don't think I'd be interested in ordering any more of the mystery meat soups. read more

OMG! My Pho was amazing. First of all, the size of the portion is enough to feed a small village. I seriously thought it was a never ending bowl of broth. The taste was perfect. The broth was so yummy, I thought about just taking shots of it. There were plenty of noodles, veggies, and tofu as well. It was just a great dish. I have only tried their bubble tea from here, and it's pretty good since they have a larger variety of flavors to choose from and are relatively cheaper than other places. I recommend the mango, durian, and taro flavors. On my most recent visit, I ordered one mango bubble tea and waited almost 15 minutes for it. Maybe it'd be better to call ahead? I just didn't know! I was always told the best Vietnamese restaurants in Richmond were in the Horsepen neighborhood and I've certainly tried them all, but I just ate lunch at Tay-Ho and found my new favorite. It's just a bonus that it's less than a half-mile from my home!! For those who haven't been or aren't familiar with how street numbers work (?) this is the nice looking building near the Chicken Fiesta on Broad Street (east of Parham.) It's a pretty big place but we had no trouble getting a table at 1-ish on a Monday. We were immediately greeted by a very friendly server who was everything one could ask for. I believe the menu was an abridged lunch menu because the paper take-out menu I grabbed on the way out had more items and dinner-style entrees. There was a 'Lunch Specials' section, but the items were priced the same as the pho and bun options, so lunch should be from $7-10 per person. We decided to start with some crispy spring rolls, which were nicely crispy and tasted great. I ordered the pho dac biet (P1), which included all the adventurous items like tripe, tendon, flank, beef balls and brisket. In a few minutes, I had a plate of herbs, sprouts, jalapenos and lime wedges. I was pleased to see sawtooth along with the basil. Before I dropped the greenery into the broth, I decided to take a slurp. Wow, this was an outstanding broth! I could taste the beef, the spices, the amazing flavor that is the best thing about pho. I knew I wouldn't need to add much from the tray of sauces, but I did add some of the hot pepper sauce and a splash of fish sauce and dug in. It was a big bowl and I was full before I finished, but there was no way I was going to walk away from that perfect bottom-of-the-bowl pho broth. Those of you who've enjoyed pho know what I'm talking about. The last ounces of pho have all the amazing flavors of the broth, the meats, the herbs, and the peppers combined into a magic broth. I managed to finish it without getting Thanksgiving full, but next time I'll skip the spring rolls so I have the room. I'll be back. I know I'll be back. I ordered Tay-Ho for the first time yesterday via doordash and I was pleasantly surprised. I had read the reviews and was looking for some good Vietnamese food that wasn't super expensive. I wasn't disappointed! I got the spring rolls (the soft ones that have shrimp and rice noodles in them) with peanut sauce and a vermicelli rice noodle salad with egg rolls. It was very well packed, and tasted delicious. I agree with a previous reviewer that the fish sauce was very clear looking, but it was tasty. I will definitely order from here again. read more

I've tried all the Vietnamese pho places in this neighbourhood, and this is by far my favorite. It's so much fresher and cleaner. Pho broth tastes healthier with less msg. Chopsticks not in the common area where any guests could touch. Crispy spring rolls have taro in it which makes them so much more legit! Meats are tender and flavourful. Indoor decor is also not very typical pho place like with a modern clean touch. Definitely recommend this place for all you pho lovers out there! read more

This is my first positive review on Yelp. Tay-Ho is spectacular. The pork clay pot is my favorite dish, with the BBQ quail coming in a close second. I'm (I stopped here to enjoy my dessert: coconut pudding, which was delicious. Recommend getting it with whipped cream and cherry.) only able to distinguish between the two because of volume, with the clay pot equaling two meals (for me) worth of food, vs the one for the BBQ quail. I would say this place has the best bang for your buck and a full bar. There is only one other Pho spot that can compete with them when it comes to taste and portion size. Comparing to other Vietnamese restaurants: beautiful restaurant, amazing service, alcoholic drinks (many options to choose from!) and HUGE portions for same price as other places. But I would have to say I've had better pho at other Pho places. But I would definitely come back here if I was taking my friends out to eat/ socialize. Ordered a take out for dinner. Staff was nice and suggested the house fried rice. was ready within 10 mins. However the taste was just Meh...it was so bland, hardly any sauce added. Also the shrimp was not deveined...yes all of them...not deveined...thats a total put off. We enjoyed dinner here recently. Certainly it didn't blow us away, but it was very good. Clean, fast, and fresh. The bar area was packed. The dining room was busy, but certainly not full. I had the Tay-Ho deluxe, sort of a sampler platter as a broken rice dish. Delicious!! Chicken, shrimp, pork, shredded pork, pork patty, and beef with an egg and some vegetables. So fresh tasting. Great mix of flavors. Another person had a vermicelli entree and they loved theirs The vegetable stir-fry was just ok. The wait staff were very fast and hard to catch if you needed anything. We didn't get any pho as it was a hot day outside. It looked to be a popular item which we hope to try next time. All said, we will probably be going back when we crave some solid vietnamese food. Went back for dinner tonight. Crispy rolls still oily and bland, sauce still thin and sweet. Not bad, just unremarkable. Ordered the B11 noodle bowl with everything, and extra basil. Much much better than last time and one of the best noodle bowls to be found in RVA, almost as good as the equivalent from Vietnam 1. I was impressed! Dining partner got Viet fried rice with tofu which she said was "perfectly adequate, but not as good as Huynh's." My coworkers and I eat here for lunch frequently, and it is my favorite pho place in town. I typically order the vegetarian crispy rolls and the vegetarian pho and they are fantastic! I'm picky about spring rolls and these are top quality. The servers are all very prompt and friendly, as well. Pro tip: the vegetarian pho is not on the lunch menu but you can (and should) still order it! I've never been here for dinner as the significant other doesn't care for Vietnamese food, but I can say for certainty that lunch here is crave-ably good. read more

I picked up the veggie pho with crispy spring rolls as a take out order. It was amazing! Everything was packaged separately and neatly, just as you'd expect to get it dining in. Started off bad and never got much better. Walked in at 11am on a Saturday morning and the restaurant was really cold, the few other customers they had were all eating with their coats on. Does the heat not work? Started with shrimp summer roll and it was good so we were feeling confident we made a good choice. For the main course I ordered the stir fry rice noodle with shrimp, they brought me egg noodles instead. I did not send it back as everyone else had their food and was ready to eat. After a couple bites I could barely eat it, way too sweet. Worse than mall food sweet! The shrimp were well done but the noodles and vegetables were covered in the very thick super sweet sauce. My wife got the beef pho and it was good but not the best in town. Our daughter got the rice crepes and it was all crepes, no filing. She is not a picky eater but she ate little of the dish. Finally when we were ready to leave I had to go track down the server to get the bill. The place was almost empty and they could not take care of us. She brought us the bill after I found her hanging out in the back with at least 10 other workers and I saw that we got charged for my incorrect dish, even after I told our server about it. To add insult to injury, the waitress didn't even bring me a pen to sign the receipt. We will not be back unless we hear things have improved a great deal. read more

First off, let me start out by saying i am not a lover of Pho. I never bought into the hype, i don't care about a restaurant's Pho, and I don't base a restaurants overall rating on their Pho. (I'm a ramen girl) I really enjoy this place. Their food is fresh with minimal MSG, salt, greasy additions in their food. This is THE BEST place for vietnamese tofu dishes. The tofu lemongrass is a favorite as well as the tofu grill platter. My husband likes that he can pair a good local brew with his food and he usually gets beef lemongrass or the beef vermicelli bowl. The service is really good here, the food is always hot and fresh, the service is fast and seating is ample. The sriracha bottles are always filled up and never dirty or greasy on the outside. The restaurant is kept clean, the bathrooms are clean, they also have a separate bar section. I highly recommend this place. Even my mom who is extremely opinionated and picky enjoyed this place. Usually everything is too salty or too bland or not enough of this or that... hard to please but she enjoyed this place. read more

The food is average. The vegetarian pho broth is a little on the sweeter side. There wasn't a pho flavor to it. And there was waaaay too much noodles. They were pretty stingy about the meat in the beef pho bowl. Spring rolls could be wrapped better. They were a bit bulky and didn't hold the inside once you got to the middle of the roll. This just about landed the coveted spot of my least favorite Vietnamese restaurant in Richmond (maybe even everywhere). Maybe my expectations were too high. If only the food tasted as nice as the restaurant looked. What made it worse was that the waitresses were not very knowledgable about the food itself. I really like servers who are casual, but all 3 that we encountered were borderline unprofessional. We all shared the banh xeo, shaky beef, pho, wonton soup, and grilled pork with rice. Vietnamese food is kind of hard to fail at, but they come pretty close. It was edible, I guess. I have hopes for this place though. Maybe they just need time to get to their full potential. Because if they don't, it'll just be a waste of a pretty space. I might be able to muster up the courage to try it again in 6 months or so. read more

We got a couple of things when we went. The combination pho and the combination appetizer platter. The appetizer platter was really good and showcased a really good selection of different foods. Plus it helps that it tasted pretty good. My favorite thing off if the platter was honestly a tie between the cha gio and the steamed dumplings. The next thing off the menu we tried the papaya salad which was also really tasty. Finally we tried the combination pho which was again, fairly tasty. To break down the pho, it was a 3/5 on broth, 2.5/5 on noodles, 3/5 for the beef and 3/5 for the vegetables. A theme, which for me docked points, was the fact that every dish that came out was oddly sweet. Don't get me wrong, the food is definitely worth a try but from the broth to the salad all the way to the noodles came out sweeter than any other pho restaurant I've ever been to. One thing that i'm starting to consciously take note of when going to different places are oddly enough the bathrooms. I liked the bathroom here, it was clean and had a nice scent to it. I want to go back here to try the pho again, just to see if it was a weird day or if the pho is just like that, but this is still a place to go to for a good time. One thing that was really surprising was the fact that they are open so late, which leads me to believe they are known more for a night life type of restaurant. read more
