Been there two times. The first time was fine, no problems to speak of. This recent visit, however, the service was just bad. Our waiter did not know what was in specific dishes when we asked, and worst of all our pho took 20 minutes to arrive. If you've been to any pho place, you know pho never takes more than 5 minutes because of its simplicity. The soup itself was not bad. Had better in the area. Went to eat here because my fiance and me wanted to try more Vietnamese food after our first time eating it went well. it didn't have that same feeling as Pho So 1 because of how it looked, well i mean, if your going to sell Vietnamese food then why dint you make the place look traditional or more foreign. this way, when people come in they can have a nice dinner and learn about knew things. Other than the decor, the food was not as good as Pho So 1. I wouldn't say I liked it but i also wouldn't say i hated it, they can make the meat in the phi more uncooked because when the the food came to my table, the meat looked like it was precooked or it was old. overall, there is nothing i like about this new restaurant. read more

The restaurant looks nice, and the service is good too. However, the Vietnamese food isn't near authentic at all. The pho I had is bad, the broth has a wried Chinese cooking wine smell and the braised beef isn't fresh. It tasted like the beef had been frozen for a while. The sauce of the shrimp spring roll had a bean paste smell. I wouldn't recommend this place. read more

The food here is decent but the customer service is lacking! Half of the time you have to wait & watch people do everything but seat you. When you're finally seated it takes another spurt of time to get someone to take your order. This happens even when it's not busy! There are a number of Vietnamese places on braid street that have better customer service than this place...I will be spending my money elsewhere. read more

Food is on par with the other Vietnamese restaurants in Richmond. A few things I want to point out: I had a seafood stir fry and I consumed it right after it was placed on the table, some pieces in the stir fry were cold. Also, a bowl of phó was ordered and the noodles were bunched up as if it were just taken out of packaging. We were one of the few customers there and the food took about 10-15 mins to come out. I went here for lunch today (01/09/2013) with two friends. All three of us thought the space was nice (super clean and new) and our food was really good. My least favorite, which we all still liked, were the fried wontons. They reminded me of the shrimp purses that Kroger sells. I got a lunch special, which came with wonton soup (good), a crispy roll (really good), and a spicy dish with lemon grass that I had them make with pork. It was really good. I have no idea what my friends ordered, but I did try my friend's pork dish that had a nice, smokey flavor. I am looking forward to going back. If it's as good next time as it was this time, I will make this a regular stop. read more

Go. Just go. You won't be disappointed. This beautiful new restaurant is super clean, has a friendly staff and the food... Yeah. So good. The shrimp spring rolls were very good. 2 huge spring rolls for $3. Could be a meal if your a small eater. We ordered the steak round Pho for our kids because we know they Ike it.. Very tasty. Maybe even too many noodles. The pickled onions were a unique addition I haven't had anywhere else. We took the extras home. The broken rice dishes were incredible. My husband ate the BBQ beef. I don't think he came up for air once he got started. I ordered the BBQ chicken noodle bowl. Ok. Forget about the Pho from now on folks. This is the way to go. Add the fish sauce it comes with, stir it all together because the yummy veggies are at the bottom.. So So Good. My kids were picking the chicken off of my plate they loved it so much too. We will be back for sure. And if I didn't have kids, I'd be a regular at their bar where plenty of people were eating lunch while watching tv. read more

It was a real nice remedy for a not so good day we were having. We were looking for just a good soup, but what we got in the form of the wonton in egg noodle soup was invigorating and in plenty of amount to fill our tummy. Noticed this place on our way for our favorite Vietnamese soup further west and decided to give it a try. No mai tai on the menu, so we chose the signature drink which turned out to be mostly lemonade made with way too much sugar. I had the seafood pho and my dining partner had had a noodle soup with won ton, and the soups made us glad we had changed course. The noodles were cooked al dente rather than overcooked and the ingredients added were fresh and crunchy. The amount of seafood in my soup was a little sparse but overall the meal was delicious. My companion enjoyed her meal as well. The setting was not especially nice, we were seated in a booth that appeared more comfortable than the many tables that looked like a cafeteria and certainly not fine dining. The ceiling is exposed beams with nothing to dampen sound, and this restaurant was already serving a number of families with very young children, including crying infants. Had we not ordered drinks, we probably would have left because of the noise and missed out on the delicious food. Top price entree was lamb chops at nearly $30, and though I love lamb I wasn't willing to spend that for an untried venue with an unknown preparation. The menu is extensive but unless you yourself are taking your kids out, you may want to carry out from here and enjoy your meal in peace at home. read more

The restaurant is clean and very attractive on the inside. It's visually appealing in a modern twist on the typical interior decorating found in Vietnamese restaurants. So far I have not ordered anything here that I have not found delicious. Their food is consistently presented and tastes great. The noodle bowls are awesome! My only complaint is the short staffing and my waitress was wearing yoga pants with "love" across the back. I don't understand the effort to have such a pretty restaurant and great food...with servers dressed in pajamas. Well being it was a new Vietnamese place my wife and I had to check it out!... I have been eating and experimenting with Vietnamese cuisine for about 4 years now. Walking in we waited about 30 seconds for a hostess to greet us and seat us. We sat down and enjoyed looking around the restaurant, everything was okay but the thing that stood out the most were the chandeliers with a nice metal design. waitress came over and greeted us. This waitress i forget her name but we was wonderful am really picky about service and she was WONDERFUL! She gets one of those stars and the Tay-Ho get 2 Stars) First i ordered a sweet tea and wife ordered a coconut juice, sweet tea was not so good i changed it out for a soda. On the other hand Coconut drink was Very good. So we started off with a crispy roll and a spring roll (shrimp) Crispy seem like it came out so fast(which is fine) but the grease didn't seem to soak or drain fast enough. it was a little to greasy for liking. Spring roll was good not great but good. I felt the spring could use more flavor. last course meal was bad for me wife enjoyed her broken rice shrimp but me my vermicelli noodles with shrimp was very bland no flavor. Couldn't eat after third bite. The waitress asked me and i told her it was good and i didn't really enjoy it.( I didn't want to make it a big deal) but she did her job and ask the General manager to come check on us and she did. I told her about it and she seemed nice i felt like i hurt her feelings by telling her. She told me"well i think everything on the menu taste good." But moving on she basically knew i didn't enjoy it. Than we got the bill and i see she charged us for it. I asked the waitress she said yea she wanted me to charge you still for it. she ask if i wanted to call her over i said no thank you she knows what she has done and I personally own a family business and that's not how you bring customers back. I honestly can say that if you would like wonderful and amazing Vietnamese food Check out PHO So 1 or your next best bet would be Vietnam 1. SAY NO TO TAY HO!! I WOULD NOT EVEN GIVE THIS PLACE ONE STAR! ABSOLUTELY AWFUL!!! The restaurant was beautiful when we walked in, so I was excited to have a very pleasant meal and experience. We received a very unfriendly greeting from the hostess. Our waiter was fine, but the food was terrible! The TOFU WAS DEEP FRIED TO JUST GREASE AND THE BROWN SAUCE TASTED LIKE A SALT BLOCK...NO TRUE AUTHENTIC VIETNAMESE FLAVOR. The manager/owner of the restaurant did not come to the table on her own to apologize or try to make things right. She did not remove the meal from our bill, until I asked to speak to her and requested for her to remove it from our bill. She came to the table with a very bad attitude...no customer service...argumentative...with no care to make things right. Her attitude was "That's the way we fix it"! She was extremely nasty! Last night was the first time I'd been to Tay-Ho (a little history--I used to live around the corner when this building was an Indian restaurant and visited frequently). I noticed it the last time I was in Richmond and promised myself I'd come in on my next visit. I was not disappointed! The food was very fresh and well prepared with the subtle seasoning that marks Vietnamese cuisine. We shared a rice flour pork roll appetizer (which was probably enough for 3 people!), I had the sugarcane shrimp vermicelli bowl, and he had house fried rice with beef. Everything was perfectly seasoned and left us satisfied without feeling overstuffed. Our waitress was very knowledgeable about the food and seasonings, and though I didn't need explanations, I did hear her explaining some of the menu items to people at the next table and she took her time with them. Also, the restaurant is very clean. We were impressed enough that we took a take-out menu with us so that my husband can bring something home the next time he is in Richmond, as we don't have a Vietnamese restaurant where we live now.
