UPDATE from March 2019: Today I ordered a Chicken Milanese Torta. It had too much mayo, a big gallop of it. That was not the worse part, the chicken itself, the texture was weird...rubbery. When bitten you could feel the rubber texture. Skip the chicken milanese from this restaurant. read more

We ordered dinner from this location and their customer service could not be worse. Of course they blame any issues on the fact that they will not take orders directly and require you to order from any of half a dozen services deflecting the blame for problems to them. We ordered a corn quesadilla because my wife can't eat flour. I reviewed the order and even the tag from pick up and it clearly stated corn. We ordered several other things that were ok. The nachos were a disgusting soggy mess and were pretty gross. When we saw the quesadilla was wrong, I called and asked for them to deliver a replacement. After some back and forth I was told I can come in and pick up a replacement. When I insisted that I would not come back in, they said that is all they could do. After more back and forth they said they had no manager there and to call another location for a manager. I called them and they told me that the manager I was told to call was not there and they had no idea what the other location was talking about. Finally after another back and forth finally they told me the other manager would call me. 30 minutes later that manager calls and says all they can do is refund the dish. After more back and forth he agreed to refund the whole order. Well he lied. He just refunded a few dollars more than the dish cost which was insufficient since other food became soggy messes while I had to cook my wife dinner which I didn't want to do which is why I ordered in the first place. Very dependable for good Mexican food in the area. Look, this isn't Rick Bayless. It's home -cooked favorites that you know and love. It's clean and has an open layout. Small parking lot, but just enough spots if dining in. Most customers look like they take it to go. The carne asada is surprisingly good. It's part of the Taco Burrito King chain, but I think this one is just a little better than the others that I've been to. For instance, the location on Touhy in Niles always seems to have trash on the tables. The TBK Grill employees are very pleasant and attentive. I've come here so many times now so something must be drawing me back. Therefore, I've increased the review from 3 to 4 stars. This place does get busy at lunch, it's hard to see inside because the windows are up high but trust me, there are folks inside. TBK is supposed to be a notch or two above the quality of the regular Taco and Burrito King. As for presentation, I would say yes. As for the food quality, I would say that it's comparable. You can't go wrong with the carne asada tacos and meal. They are generous with the cheese, veggies and meat. Try the two sauces and horchata - that's some awesome stuff. read more

TBK Grill is located in that funky intersection where Lincoln Ave, Cicero Ave & Howard St merge. This use to be a coffee shop before TBK. TBK has only been open for about 2 years. I have driven by TBK but never stopped in until today. I usually order tacos over a burrito but today I ended up ordering a steak burrito that comes in 6", 10" or 12" sizes. I ended up getting a 10" Steak burrito that was tasty, but nothing special. It was Ginormous. I was reading Gerry T's review about TBK = Taco Burrito King. Hmm it never dawned on me that the 2 could be one in the same? The interior space is nice, clean and well designed. It's like I said the food is decent, but nothing spectacular that would make me want to go back especially when there are so many awesome Mexican eateries that serve the same type of food. I don't go to or towards Skokie that much, so it was a nice passing by this spot one of the few times I was in the vicinity. It's located in something of an island, so it can be a bit of a task getting into the driveway, depending on which entry you're taking. But it's all good. The service is good and I attribute part of that to good service on the general principle. The other is because I spoke Spanish while placing my order. There was a mother, her mother, and a tribe of indecisive kids with them at the register when I entered and after standing behind them for 10 minutes, the cook on the grill stepped forward and took my order. Score! I ordered chips and guacamole, quesadilla with chicken, and a taco platter. The guacamole was fresh and chunky the way that I like mine. I should have asked for more cilantro, but what I had was good enough. The quesadilla with chicken was my favourite, full of chunks of chicken without going overboard. For the taco platter, I ordered the chicken tacos the traditional way: with onions and cilantro. They were a winner. Served with yellow rice and frijoles, this hit the spot. TBK Grill felt more like a hole-in-the-wall taqueria that had a polished interior. At first I was not impressed that Taco Burrito King opened this location under the "TBK Grill" name, offering the same Mexican food at higher prices. Yet we tried it, and it's grown on me. I'm glad this location that's in an unusual, hard to get to intersection (much like an island) is finally occupied, and their food is GOOD. Yes, it is a bit more pricey (1 Taco is $3.25/ a Taco dinner with only 2 plus rice & beans is $9) something about this location makes me like it better. It's clean, service is friendly, and they have daily specials. (On Sunday the carne asada dinner is $12!) Oh and service is fast. They have a dining room but we prefer to carry out. This is NOT taco burrito king that everyone is use to. The food here is soooo flavorful I wish I wouldn't have avoided it for so long. I recommend the steak burrito (comes in three different sizes) The steak is slightly crispy and NOT chewy. The tacos appear to be the game at TBK. My husband ordered two tacos with carne asada and loved them, but my food was meh at best. Do NOT order tamales here! The masa was wrapped around the husks, making it super messy and wasteful, and they were incredibly dry and flavorless. One of my two chicken tamales had the weirdest smell. I didn't even taste that one. (It was like a metallic smell, and not a rotten smell--hard to describe). I really wanted to like the fundido, and it looked great when it arrived and the flavor was good, but after a few minutes, giant pools of grease began forming and I couldn't stand it. Cinco de Mayo on Taco Tuesday! It was intense inside the Skokie location mostly because of Grubhub and DoorDash orders, but the staff did what they could. I did wait an hour and a half for my order, but the 4 star rating is because of the staff and manager whipping through all the orders, phone calls, and attitudes with great customer service. Not once did they give attitude back to the rude and persistent DoorDash drivers hovering over the counter like helicopters. I love TBK! It so conveniently located in a spot that really lacks Mexican food. I'm not saying this is THE BEST Mexican food but the customer service is always a 10. They are so nice and one particular server/cashier never fails to ask me how my daughter is doing, which is something rare nowadays. The taco fillings are more than you could as for; very generous portions. They are always on par with their seasoning. Is the food a little greasy? Yeah... but it's TBK! Everyone knows that. They have a cute little patio that is typically empty so we love sitting out there during nice summer evenings. TBK, thank you for being such a little gem and always being so kind.
