The bakery case was empty on our lunch visit which was disappointing so we stuck to the lunch menu. We tried a Toasted Ham and Cheese on Sourdough which was simple but good. I liked the soft bread with a great crust, although it's not like sourdough we make at home or grew up with in California. Its flavor is closer to white bread, but a great bread either way. It's toasted in a counter top oven, so no butter on this one. It's light on the ham and a decent amount of cheese, it was pretty tasty. The pretzels were a mystery. We saw photos of small twisted pretzel sticks and also saw single large pretzels. But there were none in the bakery case so we asked. They said they should be ready now, so we were excited for some hot fresh pretzels that just got finished being made. Unfortunately, by ready now they meant thawed out. While it was warmed up in the oven, it was still cold inside, so not a fresh baked or homemade item. It was also two medium sized pretzels served with a spicy mustard and beer cheese. So who knows what you'll get as they seem to change product frequently. We also had a molasses cookie cream sandwich that was pre-packaged that was great. Also had a Kolsch on draft that was good, but not my favorite. Overall, a great addition to Old Salem with a little something for everyone. I'll be back to try that Bratwurst on a pretzel bun with sauerkraut and spicy mustard.

I won't even attempt to pronounce it but he said he didn't really enjoy it. Oh well, can't win them all! We also ordered the twisted pretzels with beer cheese and mustard and a toasted ham and cheese. Both were yummy although the pretzel was only warm with some cold spots and we could tell was a frozen product. For $12 I feel they really should be baking them there. Pretzel dough is very easy and no special equipment is needed. If I'm mistaken and they are made there and just frozen ahead, they need to make sure they are heated through before serving. The beer cheese and mustard were awesome though and I think they saved the day for us. Toasted ham and cheese was really good although I wish the bread was slightly more toasted. The flavors were great and I loved the taste of the bread. The ham had a nice smoky flavor that went really well with the melted cheddar. I topped my meal off with the last molasses sandwich cookie they had. Yum! The warm flavors of cinnamon and ginger were so good and there wasn't so much cream filling that it overpowered any of those flavors. They have lots of spaces to sit inside and downstairs it was quiet if you want to go there to work or head down to eat out on the patio. I'll definitely be back to try some more of the menu items that looked so delicious.

The mimosa was light and flavorful without being overpowering. It was a subtle flavor but pleasant. The chocolate was exactly what you'd expect from a chocolate macaron, which was good. It had a rich chocolate flavor but wasn't too heavy. I did walk with it on a warm day, so it began to melt a bit. But overall, it was still enjoyable. My fiancé ordered the ginger cookie. He liked it. It has a crust of sugar on top and had a nice ginger taste. The texture was soft but didn't fall apart easily. The server at the cash register was helpful. We asked what the Santiago dessert was, and he explained thoroughly. He also asked if the macarons could be in the same box instead of assuming. We didn't stay in long enough to get a vibe necessarily, but everyone sitting inside seemed to be at ease and enjoying their time. We will return to try more.

The high wooden bookshelves and designated reading tables give it literary cachet, but The Remedy leans more cozy than stuffy. There's plenty of seating inside and out, and this would be as good a place for a group as it would be for partaking solo. Part coffeeshop and part bar, The Remedy also offers baked goods, flatbreads and charcuterie alongside its coffees, teas, and cocktails. I passed on the food (it seemed overpriced), but the coffee left no room for complaint. I went with a marshmallow iced latte. It was prepared quickly, and it made for a smooth sip: not too sweet and no acidity. Winston-Salem has no shortage of places to grab a drink of the caffeinated or alcoholic varieties, but it's hard to beat the atmosphere that The Remedy has to offer.

I'll add that I did not try the coffee (which apparently is a staple) There are so many OTHER breakfast and coffee spots in the city... I'll just say that.

Every time we have come they have always been so nice and our drinks and ice cream are always delicious! To switch it up I will also get the classic dirty soda, a Diet Coke with lime juice and coconut creamer, from time to time as well. Another 10/10. On our recent visit I also got an ice cream special they were doing for the month of June, Summer Camp Chaos. Toasted marshmallow ice cream with brownie pieces and graham crackers, topped with marshmallow and caramel drizzle. I did sub peanut butter drizzle for the caramel drizzle as a peanut butter lover and wow was it a game changer. This was such a good ice cream flavor for summer!
