The Tea Cozy has an excellent selection of loose-leaf teas for the best prices of any brick and mortar store in the Sacramento area. All the staff are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable, especially the owner, Nami. I came in looking for a replacement for a particular cup that I thought had come from this shop years and years ago, and she not only remembered which cup I meant just from my description, but was able to order a new one specially, since they didn't have them in stock anymore. It was expensive, but worth it to have the exact cup I wanted. In addition to teaware, they sell useful accessories, UK-imported snacks, and some well-known British tea brands, but the real draw is their own loose-leaf tea options, kept in big jars behind the counter. I don't even bother with Teavana and never have, but Tea Cozy teas are equal or superior to those offered by Temple and Old Soul, typically for a much better price. (In fairness to those places, they're mostly about coffee and never claimed otherwise. But don't be fooled by the amounts listed on the Temple website, for instance - "7 oz for $9.00" sounds like a good deal but is actually a 7 *fluid* ounce VOLUME container, which holds about 2 oz by WEIGHT of tea. I know, because I just weighed the Jade Cloud I got from them!) So, the Tea Cozy really does sell the tea itself by weight, at prices ranging from $2 to $4.50 or so per ounce; you choose how much you want and they bag it for you right there. There is a 35-cent surcharge if you buy less than two ounces at a time, but if you want to just try something to see if you like it, they also have 1.5 oz pre-bagged sample bags at no markup (i.e., most of them are only $3 - less than a single drink might be at a coffeeshop. And they're filled with a generous hand.) 1.5 oz of loose-leaf tea is about 15-20 teaspoons, so 10-15 cups of tea*. It would be nice if there was some way to try just one cup, in the store - samples are the one thing Teavana does well - but the storefront is small enough that I expect there would be logistical issues with that sort of thing. The only other complaint I have is a minor one, and it's that of their green teas, Chinese options seem overrepresented and Japanese ones underrepresented. There are tons of sencha varieties, but I saw hardly any. Then again, maybe I missed them. I'll have to look closer next time. *Despite the fact that practically every store and container will instruct you to brew at a ratio of 1 teaspoon per 8 oz hot water, in my experience that often makes a very weak cup of tea. In the case of white and more delicate green teas, it will be hardly more than hot water. For loose leaf teas, I always use at least a heaping teaspoon per 8 oz of water, and more like 2 teaspoons for white or green. Great selection of loose leaf teas and herbals (tisanes). I've been coming here for years (over 10) and am glad to say they have hung in there. Located in the little mall by Fox and Goose, the parking is usually pretty good They have a very good Lapsang Souchong which I like because then I don't have to wait to get it by mail. I love this shop! Tiny, but enough room for their huge selection of excellently-priced teas, British imports, and tea prep materials. I could spend the better part of an afternoon just smelling and re-smelling all of the teas they have :) The service is great, too - friendly, inviting, knowledgeable staff that could tell you not only how to prepare the tea, but the history and background of it as well! Very friendly shop which specializes in tea and related merchandise. My wife and I popped in on a rainy Saturday after eating breakfast next door at the Fox & Goose. Only intended to browse, but ended up buying seven different varieties of tea -- largely because one of the shop ladies stopped stocking a shelf and devoted her attention to my wife. When my wife asked the ingredients in a particular custom tea, the lady immediately found the bin on the storage shelf and told her everything she needed to know. She was even able to tell my wife whether any of the custom teas had nuts or other ingredients that could cause an allergic reaction. We'll return! read more

I've been buying my tea at Tea Cozy for years now. I'm so lucky to have this wonderful shop close to my home. Nami, the owner, is a sweetheart, and now a friend, too, as tea brought us together. There is more to a shop than just the product - it's the person behind it that makes it 5 stars. But, the tea is awesome, too. Visited the Tea Cozy this afternoon. Had been meaning to check out this little shop for awhile. It's an easy walk from my house. I have been brewing loose-leaf green tea for years, but decided I needed to expand my tea experience into herbals to cut back on the caffeine. Loose leaf tea is so much better than tea bags. There really is no comparison. The Tea Cozy is in the rear of the Pavillion next to the Fox & Goose. The service was friendly and knowledgeable. They sell 1.5 oz sample packs of their teas. Bought four for under $13, which is a really good price. Six ounces is a lot of tea. It's going to take awhile to brew it all. My first pot was ayurvedic herbs for men - very good. Loose-leaf tea is good alternative to coffee. Packaged tea-bag tea is bland. But loose-leaf tea is not. It's interesting learning about the origins and medicinal values of different teas. It's healthier for your body and mind than coffee, and you don't get the caffeine rush followed by the crash that coffee gives you, even with caffeinated teas. Glad I found the Tea Cozy. I'm already looking forward to going back to make some new tea discoveries. read more

Best place to buy loose leaf teas in town! I've gotten a few of my friends to join the Tea Cozy fan club so I felt it was time to write a review. Nami is wonderful and will answer any question about tea you can think of and provide many outstanding recommendations. There are many different tea infusers to choose from and some really charming tea pots and tea sets if you're looking for a perfect gift for the tea aficionado in your life. Lots of flavors of black, flavored black, green, and green and white tea blends to pour over. My faves are the White Divine Temple, Green Powerfruit, French Creme Brulee, Irish Whiskey, and English Caramel. Honestly though, I think you can pick anything on the wall and not be disappointed. And if you're looking for some Digestives, clotted cream, or HP sauce, just walk over to the British section of the store and do some shopping. The shop is in the same building where the Fox & Goose pub is located. Parking is abundant but don't come on Mondays because the shop is closed. read more

I've never been to a tea store with such a variety. Be prepared to spend at least $20, once you start smelling all of them and reading the article on the wall with all the ailments teas can fix, you won't be able to resist. I was recommended this place by my aunt once I started drinking real tea (instead of tea bags - the "hot dogs" of tea). Unlike an Asian market, Tea Cozy has DELICIOUS teas, you want to pour them into your mouth they smell (and taste) so good. They are inexepensive too, on average about $2 an ounce, which will last a while, since you can resuse the leaves several times (unlike bags) Make sure to try Mexican Winter and Fiji green tea, to die for! read more

Went on a second saturday in March, and the couple that run the business are the best in the business...so presentable and hospitible, like you've known them forever. They know a GREAT deal about their tea. I hadn't been there in 4 years, and they were very welcoming and had a wide and wonderful selection of very fragrant and tasty teas. This is the best place to buy loose leaf tea in the city. The owner is very nice and knowledgeable. She will answer any questions you have about any of the teas (despite the high volume) and give some good recommendations. The products are also spectacular - a lot of good tea pots without any plastic or rubber. Along with the teas (from various tea drinking locales), they sell a variety of imported biscuits, chocolate (Cadbury import, original recipe methinks and Lion bars), digestives and other good tea pairing snacks.
