I came to Tea Era every now and then when I lived in Cupertino and occasionally visit when I'm back in the Bay. Their tea is usually nice and strong, although on my last visit it was more watered down than usual. Their pearls are usually decently good. I really love the popcorn chicken though! I'm super satisfied every time I come here, and I've been going here for years! My go to drink is the JAPANESE MATCHA GREEN MILK TEA off the Enthusiast's Pick menu! I like to get it at a 50% sweet to 100% (regular) ice ratio, sometimes with regular boba pearls or sometimes with their matcha grass jelly. The tea is dark enough to taste it, and they definitely don't skimp out on you by adding more milk. read more

I've been coming to Tea Era consistently maybe 4-5 times a week (some weeks even more, hitting 10 times per week), some days I'd even come twice. So I really love this place. Their pop corn chicken, drinks, service, all hands down. I've never had a problem. My go-to drink is the black sugar grass jelly fresh milk with pearls, 25% sugar, less ice. Today when I went, the server refused to give me 25% sugar, insisting 50%. I had told her that I got 25% here before, but she still insisted that "they can't do that". It was almost as if I was asking for a 25% discount. Sure. You could reason that "The taste wouldn't be authentic at 25% sugar", but everyone has a different standard for sweet. Who are you to set my standards and deny me my 25% sugar. Also, don't tell me you can't do 25% sugar. I've had 25% sugar there on that exact drink many times before. I love the milk taste with the slightest hint of black sugar, and 50% is honestly too sweet for me, it just kills the experience. (I'm also not looking to get diabetes, if I'm coming here every other day getting this drink). So instead, I didn't buy the drink here, I left and went to Happy Lemon, where they made my drink at 25% sugar. Honestly, management, please consider letting your customers dictate what they put into their body. Everyone's taste is relative, you can't put a "right" or "wrong" on someone else's taste. The food and bento boxes are really really good here! The drinks are great too, there's a lot of variety in terms of toppings etc. However, there seems to be hoards of students who come here and they get backed up whenever that happens and they're also super loud and take up all the seating. The parking lot is really hard to get in and out of spots since all the spots are tiny and at 90 degrees. Lastly, the staff can be a little stand off ish. Rude service- hands down. I walked inside their drink store and they immediately told me to get out. I had a mask on and was standing way over 6 feet away from anyone else. The other customer was on their way out. I couldn't see the menu at all while waiting outside. What infuriates me is that all these other customers cut in front of me, but they allowed those multiple customers to be inside at the same time, while I waited outside in the heat. The one toilet in the back was well ventilated (fyi). The room is definitely on the smaller side, and it gets quite noisy-- with the music and customers who aren't studying. We left at 10:30 (30 minutes before closing), and it had become loud and full of people. There were two TVs playing chinese (I believe) music videos, and the music was playing loudly along with the loud conversations, each one trying to drown the other out. I personally didn't mind the noise though. I definitely need to come back to try more things on their menu but the toast with chocolate we tried was not very special and was quite dry. After having moved a good distance away from San Mateo, the center of all awesome boba tea locations, I had to scout around for my next go-to place for boba tea. There are some days where I crave boba tea super late at night, which makes it hard for me because TPumps closes around 9 or 10PM. Fortunately, for these sleepless nights, I can turn to Tea Era to fill my void and keep me satisfied. My personal favorites are, of course, the Peach Green Tea or Passionfruit Green Tea ($3.25 for S/$2.75 for L). Lately though, I've been leaning moreso towards the Peach Green Tea as it tastes less sweeter than the Passionfruit. Their boba is prepared perfectly and isn't too hard or too crunchy, if you know what I mean. The folks who work here are friendly, prompt, and just 'gets it'. Only downfalls I have to this place are: 1. That it gets fairly busy almost all hours of the day. There are times late at night when the line is out the door. 2. Limited seating available, especially during the super busy hours. 3. Their $6 minimum for CC is lightweight ridiculous. A hit-or-miss place. Although I will argue Tea Era is one of the more favorable boba stores in the area, I had my fair share of overly sweetened drinks that hindered the taste of the tea. It was 90ºF in Cupertino today and my friend and I really needed a cool-down! We got a 50% sugar Lychee Milk Tea with boba and 25% sugar Jasmine Green Milk Tea with boba. There was quite a line so the wait was around 10 minutes. The jasmine milk tea is okay, a little bland and not strong enough tea flavor. For 25% sugar there is almost no taste, which would have been fine if the tea flavor was strong enough. The boba is not bad here. I don't think I'll get this again, as they use milk powder. It seems that they use half and half for Thai Milk Tea, so I would get that or try asking if they can use real milk. The lychee milk tea was better. They only have the option of 50% sugar for that drink. There's real lychee in the drink and the flavor's pretty on-point! I signed up for Facebook rewards to get a "free small drink," but the sign's really misleading because you get it after buying 10 drinks. The menu is also a bit misleading because all the drinks look cheap (between $2.75-$3.25), but that's without boba. My favorite might be thai tea. Roasted oolong milk tea and Japanese milk tea are great options too. The ceylon and the honey milk are okeish (it tasted too milky and not too much of tea flavor). Cons: , kind of smaller pearls and the fact that you need to spend $6 min to pay with a credit card. Why they call it jelly I'll never know. But I wouldn't get this again because the almond flavor wasn't really present. Tasted more like a tofu pudding and that's just not what I wanted. The barley milk tea itself was a winner though! Balance between tea and milk was fair as Snow White's skin. Tea was not too strong that it kept me up counting sheep, and not too light that made me feel like I was drinking milk straight from a cow. I really enjoyed my drink down to the very last drop. I went to Tea Era twice this week. I had not been to the Cupertino location before but I've been to the Mountain View location several times over the years and liked it. I got the Vanilla Cream Top Jade Tea less sweet and with almond jelly during my first visit. I liked it. The tea which I think was oolong was brewed well, the cream worked well, and the almond jelly had the hint of almond extract in it. I got lavendar milk tea with almond jelly and kept it at less sweet again. The drink was to par. One thing that I noticed is that it's pretty stuffy inside so I would take my drink to go. Tea Era is my go-to Boba place. The Boba there is amazing! My all-time favorite is the Honeydew Milk Tea with Boba. It tastes SO good! I absolutely love it! The boba is just a bit chewy, but still good. I also like the traditional Ceylon Black Milk Tea with Boba. Some of the tea options aren't that good. For example, I tried the Lychee Milk Tea, but I didn't like it that much. I don't mind waiting because it is in a convenient location for me in this plaza with some decent cheap Asian food, and their drinks come out quick and fairly consistent from my experience. I've tried their iced chrysanthemum and iced barley drinks when it is late because it doesn't have any caffeine, but my usual is the standard iced milk green tea or roasted oolong.
