Decent customer service and good tea, but the food is okay at best. During my most recent visit to Tea Era, I ordered an Almond Milk Tea with Pearls ($4.50) and a Chop Pork Rice bowl ($6.99). The tea wasn't overly sweet, and tasted nice -- I could taste flakes of almonds mixed in, which was a nice touch. The pearls/boba were nice and chewy, and matched the pearls/boba quality of the Tea Era in Mountain View. As for the rice bowl, I found it edible, but the meat looked like dog food, which is something you don't want to think about while eating. Akin to the Mountain View location, the employees at Tea Era in Sunnyvale do their best to greet their customers as they enter and leave the store. I was greeted as I entered the store and was suggested by an employee to order an almond milk and rice bowl (big miss on the latter). I will definitely be back to Tea Era in the future; however, I will avoid the low quality food and stick to the tasty teas. read more

Tea Era is my go to for tea, so now Au wanted to try their food. I got the pork belly with rice. The pork belly was quite fatty and tasty with its own signature sauce. There was a nice cabbage salad that was a little oily and tasty at the same time. There was a little too much rice for my liking but overall WOULD DEFINITELY RECCOMEND! Their prices are lower than other places but the ordering system is confusing as hell. If you want to use CC you have to order on the machine, if you use cash you have to order from a person, ok fine. On their menu on the wall they have red bean milk tea, I couldn't find that in the order kiosk, I asked the person behind the counter, she told me to just order another drink (I forgot what the name was she said), that drink was the same price as the red bean milk tea on the wall so I figured maybe she would just make the red bean milk tea since I talked to her. I followed her directions and ordered that drink, after ordering I confirmed with her that I wanted the red bean milk tea, now she says that I can't order that but i need to create a custom drink and then add red bean as a topping (which would make it cost more than the red bean milk tea price on the wall). Even with that surprise I still said it's ok I'll pay for the extra price then but she said she couldn't do it, I had to place a new order. I didn't need an extra drink so I just stuck with what I ordered on the kiosk which turned out to be pretty bad so I tossed it. Tea Era has been on my milk tea radar for quite some time since they opened in Mountain View. However, I just never got around to trying their drinks until they opened in Cupertino. Their menu and selection reminds me of Verde. The majority of their drinks are sweetened with syrups and whatnot but they do offer pure tea drinks. I tried the Iron Buddha tea with light ice and no sugar. The tea tasted fresh and I enjoyed the blend of the tea. I appreciate the worker who informed me which drinks were sweetened and what I could order without the added sweetness. I prefer to taste my tea. I came with my friends on a Friday night and there was always a steady line coming through. Overall, decent place for tea. You can also pick up snack items like popcorn chicken and other common items found in milk tea establishments. Note: There is a $6 minimum credit card charge and $0.50 upgrade for large. They also had a sign by the cash register that said milk tea tastes better with creamer but Asiago have soy and wholemilk. Also, don't forget your stamp card. read more

Why must we pay a "mandatory" tip when ordering to-go food while we don't even know if the service will be good enough to warrant a tip? Ordered 2 pop ckicken bentos+2 drinks at $17.50 each. They automatically added a 10% tip on the price after tax (why do I need to tip you on the tax?), then further added a $0.50 service fee. Excuse me! For consistent boba drinks, you all have to check out Tea Era. I highly recommend the roasted barley milk tea. It's the only drink I ever order; hot or cold. The pearls here are my favorite. Sweet but not super chewy, perfect. This place is larger than the MV location but still small. Lines are normally always out the door unless you go during off hours during the weekdays. The service is quick. The drinks are made and called out in a timely manner. The only thing that really holds up the lines are people digging for change as there is a minimum of $6 to use a credit card, lame. The only thing I don't like is how the MV location offers 5 stars. There, you don't need to carry a stamp card with you. You get text messages for special offers; free add on or upgrade in size. BUT, it's cash only. Here, there is a minimum for $6 to use a credit card. They take stamp cards and do not offer or accept 5 star offers. It's confusing as heck- especially when you're not carrying the right amount of cash & change. But with that aside, Tea Era is still my favorite boba spot and I can't take a star off for the huge cash only/5star con. I'll continue with this location and just remind myself to take a friend with me to meet the $6 minimum. read more

Came here on a Saturday early afternoon. I got a regular roasted barley milk tea, half sugar, less ice. The drink was preeetty watery but I could taste the flavor of roasted barley-- it kind of tasted like coffee! I didn't really like how there was powder residue on the side of the cup though, but I think that's just how Tea Era makes their milk teas. They have a large menu of teas that are pretty affordable and a bunch of Taiwanese snacks and bentos at a cheap price. I think I'd want to try those next time and maybe the regular teas. read more

I asked the cashier what mountain jade tea is, and he replied with "its tea". I then proceed to ask him what it tastes like, the aroma of the tea. And he relied with "it tastes like tea." Well no shit Sherlock, I know it's tea. He seems to have little to no knowledge of the teas and is very unhelpful. Teach your employees some decent customer service, they're working at a tea shop. Just a head's up: Tea Era's still new in Cupertino...so I'm obviously going to be biased in comparing it to the OG one in Mountain View. FINALLY a Tea Era that's in the South Bay!! I always loved going to the one in Mountain View, but YAY for it being much closer to where I live. This location is in the same plaza area as Homestead Bowling Lanes--where the old Baskin Robbins used to be. I got a pearl milk tea and a chocolate toast just for munchies sake. I highly recommend their bubble tea (DUH) but I'm not too hyped about their foods. Tea Era has always had respectable and delicious boba...and the Cupertino/Mountain View location differences changes NOTHING (thank god). The boba was the perfect amount of chewy and honey-ness, and the tea was downright yumm. ...the "chocolate" toast on the other hand, was hella burnt and dry...the photo describes it all. Their tea has a strong tea flavor, unlike other nearby places, which is full of sugar and syrup. Not to mention their delicious chicken steak and bento boxes. Okay the menu is a bit intimidating! I mean it covers a whole wall!! Y'all need to figure out a better way to list your menu. I was certainly overwhelmed. But thankfully, I was able to catch the wintermelon tea listing. I am a big fan of wintermelons, so it was no surprise that this was my choice for my first drink at Tea Era. It was listed as 2.75, but the total with lychee jelly was 3.81. Not so bad for a regular tea. I thought it tasted pretty good. It wasn't too sweet, which makes the addition of the lychee jelly a perfect selection. I certainly enjoyed my drink, but I always make the mistake of ordering a regular when I should have gotten a large! Well that'll give me an excuse to come back here! One thing that I thought was fishy was the listing of their snacks. Okay so it says they have mushroom as a snack. Hmm just plain mushroom. Not even fried mushroom or baked mushroom or mushroom chips. Just mushroom... yeah a little fishy here if I do say so myself! Overall, it was a good place to grab a sweet drink late at night. This Tea Era has been my go-to boba shop for YEARS! But I'm very hesitant to come back here, and this is mainly due to the way the staff/cashier has been treating customers, as customer service is almost equally or more important in the customer experience. I resonate with many of the recent reviewers here regarding the way the cashier treats and responds. It unfortunately drives customers away and I'm not sure if management is aware of this. For example, both times I've come here lately, the same cashier stares at me (no greeting; no "can I get your order"... nothing). I was confused if she was ready to take my order so I asked her if she was ready, and she scoffed at me. I was really taken aback and surprised at this. The first time this happened, I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt - maybe she was having a bad day or something else - but getting this attitude and energy twice is no excuse. I sincerely hope that this improves. Otherwise, the Roasted Barley Milk Tea has a great taste (go 50% or less sugar since the drinks are leaning towards being more sweet lately). read more

Was very excited to try this place since the menu had a lot of variety, including hot foods. I think I have to give it such low stars because the cashier insisted (kind of rolled her eyes when I asked about it) that they don't have cross contamination - but I ended up getting an allergic reaction after 1 bite of the grass jelly dessert. It turns out that at the very bottom of the bowl, there was a single peanut. So all of the toppings must've been contaminated. Basically, don't eat here if you're allergic to any of the ingredients. The seating is limited and the store is pretty small. It was fairly loud in this store when my friends and I went. The drinks were good though. My friend got the blueberry milk tea and it tasted a little strange but not bad. I got a regular jasmine green tea and it tasted as any decent jasmine green tea would taste. Awful. We were craving boba and this was our favorite place because the taste had been consistent. Well, during COVID, they water down the drinks! The strawberry milk tea was super watery, as was the papaya milk. You can see the consistency difference and taste it as well. Such a disappointment. We wanted to support local businesses but cannot support this place anymore due to their lack of quality control and downhill customer service. One my favorite boba places in the area! I'm so glad they opened here because before that, the closest one was in Mountain View. Price is average/normal for boba places and they have a punch card where you can get a free drink (up $3 value) every 10 drinks you purchase. The lines can be long during weekends, making parking a bit of a hassle, but you can always park further away (near the bowling alley) and walk over. The storefront is relatively small, with only about half a dozen or so 4-seater tables, with one or two tables outside, but it's a great hang out spot. The servers are pretty good at getting your drink right (they print little tickets that go on each cup) and they give you a sturdy paper carrier (or bag) as needed. They also have some Taiwanese food/snacks/bentos, but I've never tried those before. My favorite tea is the Iron Buddha (which is tie-guan-yin - a form of oolong tea) with boba or small taro balls. The jade tea and royal darjeeling tea are also pretty good. Compared to other tea places, I feel that the tea flavor is stronger here and I really enjoy that extra hint of tea beneath the milk. read more

I give em credit for trying, especially with the desserts. Didn't try their boba tea so can't speak for that. The shop is clean and not overly crowded. They had solid choices but that's just looking at the menu. We had the tofu pudding, which was alright for what it is. The tofu was fine. It had actual soy taste to it. We opted for no toppings just to see how it'd be, since that's the way it's done in Asia sometimes. It would've been better if there wasn't ice on top of it. It should already be cold or iced in a different way because that ends up diluting the sweetness. Tea Era gets a vote for okay Asian dessert. read more

This place is one of my favorites for tea and boba drinks. This is one of the few boba places that I like to get their specialty tea drinks. Their tea here is perfect and they have such a great variety. I usually like flavors in my milk tea but Tea Era is the exception. They're Darjeeling tea is phenomenal, the Roasted Oolong Milk Tea is the perfect sweetness and perfect hot or cold. One of my favorites is the Iron Buddha which is unexpected and something I've never had anywhere else. The boba here is perfect, soft and slightly chewy. Never disappointed with the boba here. Any of my drinks, hot or cold, have turned out perfect and I always like to add boba. I've also tried their fried popcorn chicken which is quite good as well. They have a side bar where you can add chili powder or sriracha so it's customizable to your spice preference. The only thing about this place is the service, it is a bit of a wait but the people who work here are very nice and make sure that your drink is to your preference. Can't wait to be back! read more

The popcorn chicken and fried calamari are good here. Their drinks are another story. I ordered a hazelnut milk tea with grass jelly, seriously lacking in hazelnut flavor. Maybe they forgot it wasn't a regular tea? My friend ordered a Jasmine milk tea and it wasn't that great either. Drink prices are well below $3 without the added pearls or jellies, definitely affordable but I'd rather go to Fantasia for an almond milk tea for almost the same price. They give generous portions of fried snacks with basil and I found it strange they didn't ask for spiciness levels ... I don't do well with spicy so I was fine with the basic seasoning. An order of fried calamari contains only squid tentacles, no rings or slices but that was alright. ~$4 per bag of chicken or calamari. Not bad. Great food, good value. This restaurant may not have a huge menu but they do provide delicious healthy Taiwanese food at good prices. I tried the Taiwanese sausage combo, popcorn chicken combo, fried squid, mango smoothie, and earl gray milk tea. The drinks were light and refreshing, not overly sweet. The combination dishes provided a nice variety of different items such as chopped pork over rice, delicious Taiwanese sausage, crispy popcorn chicken, fish cake, light salad, and tea egg. The food temperature was great, the textures were as expected, the food wasn't overly seasoned, and the combination of everything was very pleasant. I'd be happy to return here for a delicious drink or to satisfying my Taiwanese food craving next time I'm in the area. read more

Been here twice and both time was great! Food and drink was done fresh and quick. The simmered ground pork over rice was delicious. Beautiful presentation inside the bowl. Hot steamy and savory. The egg was cold but it complimented the rest of the bowl. The brown sugar oolong milk tea was actually sweeter than i expected. The cashier seems like he didn't enjoy working there or was too tired when he helped me. This place has really inefficient service. They only let one customer in at a time, even though we are all spaced well over 6 feet apart, and we are all wearing masks. Every time I wanted to go inside the store to see the menu, someone else would cut in front of me. It's not fair that they sometimes let certain customers crowd into the store, but they would not let me go inside to place my order until all customers had exited. This back and forth cutting in line process took over 45 minutes just to get my drink. The cash register young lady was unfriendly and impartial. Forget about coming here in the future.
