When a colleague picked out this place for lunch, initially I was skeptical. I had bad experiences with other Asian joints in Clifton so my expectations for Tea 'n' Bowl were not high. Luckily this was a very pleasant surprise! The menu is extensive and covers everything from Japanese to Thai to Malaysian fare. The core, though, seems to be Chinese dishes. There was a lot to choose from so I appreciated the pared-down lunch menu. Lunch entrees come with salad or soup (choice of miso or hot and sour) and steamed or fried rice. While I was intrigued by a lot of things on the menu, I kept it simple and ordered the Szechuan beef lunch special with steamed rice and salad. The salad was on the small side and mostly iceberg lettuce. The salad dressing is the kind of gingery, sesame-y condiment you'd expect though a bit creamier than most. Not a bad start. I was actually pretty impressed with the Szechuan beef. I've had a lot of bad Chinese food in Cincinnati, where you can't tell the orange chicken from the General Tso's from the sweet & sour; it's all the same overly sweet, salty glop. Not the case here! The Szechuan sauce had a kick to it and wasn't too sweet or thick. The beef was a tad bit chewy but not bad. And it came with a good amount of vegetables, which is a plus to me. Would have been nice to have an option for brown rice, but the steamed white rice was just fine. I capped off my meal with a black bubble tea which was lightly sweetened and had plenty of boba. A great to-go "dessert." Service was fast and friendly and lunch took less than an hour. Prices are reasonable too! I'd love to come back and try some of specialties on the authentic menu. read more

The meal I had here was amazing. Thanks to other Yelp reviews, I came in knowing exactly what to order: roasted duck noodle soup. Amazingly, the duck skin remained crispy without getting soggy in the broth. Speaking of broth, this was a rich broth with loads of flavor. I couldn't stop shlurping this broth so enthusiastically; oil spots on my shirt be damned! The baby bok choy is a fantastic accompaniment. The couple next to me ordered a LOT of food; the roasted bok choy in garlic sauce is next on my list of things to try. The lady declared to her waitress "this is similar to what my mom makes." I washed the meal down with a tall cup of black tea. This ain't no Lipton, kids; this was the real deal. It helped to see canisters of loose tea sitting on the table. Wow! This is by far one of the best restaurants to go to if you're craving for Malaysian food. We visited during their Malaysian week and they had a lot of other choices that are off menu. We got the ikan bakar (charcoal grilled skate fish) with bean paste sauce, dried noodles Yong tau foo (stuffed tofu and vegetables with fish paste), assam laksa (noodles in shrimp and fish broth), and chendol (shaved ice topped with coconut milk, palm sugar, and panda jellies). Our favorite was the ikan bakar. Fish was unbelievably tender and fresh. The Assam laksa is packed with flavor. You can tell how much effort the chef had put in to cook up that yummy tasting broth. The stuffed veggies in the Yong tau foo was amazing, but the noodles were a bit too spicy for our liking. The chendol was very refreshing - not too sweet and it was huge! I was skeptical about this place at first since my friends keep saying it's either hit or miss type of restaurant. I ordered from their authentic menu (Sze chuan fish fillet, Eggplant with Garlic Sauce, Beef Brisket Hot Pot, and Roast Duck). The eggplant was amazing as they fried it up and then stir fried in garlic sauce (that was actually my favorite dish). Their szechuan fish fillet was pretty good too. This place is one of the most fantastic Asian spots in the city, hiding behind the humble facade of a simple boba tea joint. It's been here for more years than I can count and I've never stopped by because I didn't realize they had a full menu. A few months ago I noticed they had a food special advertised outside. It sounded good so I stopped in. I've been back 4 times since. They have 3 menus! One is focused on Chinese and Malaysian food. Another is focused on Japanese and Thai food. And a third is dedicated to their teas and drinks. This fact alone warrants several visits as there is so much cuisine to take in. My favorite part of the menu is definitely their Chinese hot pots. They come out either on a sizzling plate or in a bowl, bubbling over an open flame. The taste is simple but divine. I'm partial to the beef brisket (and spicy beef brisket) hot pots. The meat is fork tender with a nice amount of bok choy. The broth is immensely flavorful and complex. I'm also partial to the sizzling Malaysia tofu. Everything else I've had is excellent as well. Went here with a group of 14 people. The restaurant isn't quite best suited for large groups, but the servers were accomodating by placing 8 of us at one table and 6 at another. The decor of the restaurant is very nice. The servers were friendly and attentive. I suggest checking in on Yelp to claim your tea... Tea is in the name after all. :) The tea came in a gigantic cup while our water was served in tea cups The menu is pretty large and expansive ranging from ramen, to Malaysian food, to Chinese food. I ordered laksa which was one of the best laksa dishes I've had. There were two types of noodles, a savory and creamy broth, and bold flavors in each bite. They have an option to build your own bowl, my friend wasn't fully satisfied with her combination of ingredients -- but you can't hold that against the restaurant. This place has grown on me. It deserves its 5 stars because I can get good food here including bitter melon with rice. Its only downer is the soup which can be stale at times. However, most of its dishes are well done, witj generous portions at a fair price. Finally I must add that one of their waiters sometimes serves desserts of his own creation as he is trying to get something done eventually in the future. I have to say that he deserves a chance. I rate it 5 out of 10...tho, to be fair, my co-workers gave it 7 out of 10 based on the more Americanized entrees. I have gotten tea and bowl for lunch delivery at least a dozen times in the last few months. I know my addiction was getting serious when I ordered for home delivery. I am so glad they deliver Boba (bubble) tea, and I have to resist ordering it every time. I've had the curry laksa soup, the beef pho, the orange chicken, wonton soup, and spiced salt tofu. All good. The laksa soup is strange with two types of noodles, the pho has basil, no mint or jalapeños, the orange chicken comes with broccoli, and the wonton soup is dumplings only unless you upgrade. But I liked them all, and keep ordering. The tofu is an office favorite. Delivery is very expeditious, and they accurately estimate their arrival. Tried this place for the first time tonight with the hubs and some friends! Tiny little restaurant but big flavor! The staff is super nice and our dishes took a while to come out but it was super busy (Friday night) and you can tell there was deliveries also in order. I don't even know what I ordered (friend recommended) but everything was delicious. And that was that. The delivery was around an hour, but hey it was hailing out. I didn't care if it took 3 hours. I was just happy they saved our lives. I literally said to my bf, "It's been an hour and honestly I don't even care if the food is cold, I am still eating it." He shrugged and agreed. The food arrived not two minutes later after we said that. The food was PIPPING HOT! In fact, it felt like we were at the restaurant and it was just presented to us. The General Tso's was GIANT. (See photo) The sauce was delicious and spicy just how I like it. But the best part of all was the breading on the chicken. It was really fresh and not rubbery like we have had from those other not-to-be-named places. The General Tso's was so good I could barely break away long enough to try the lo mien. There was a heaping amount of beef in here and it was seared but still juicy. The noodles were salty and delicious, and the veggies were just right. Tea 'N' Bowl, I have to tell you, I may or may not have stood up in my two day old sweatpants and runny nose to do a slow clap in your honor. I have been a common customer here for a few years and came only for the bubble tea, until they revamped their menu. The previous menu was pan-asian and had all of your typical asian dishes and was nothing too exciting to me, so I decided then that I'd stick with the bubble tea for future visits. When I came in several months ago, I noticed the interior was re-done and the menu had changed. Curious, I sat down and had lunch with my friend. We ordered the seafood hot pot to share and also the corn chowder and both were fantastic and very authentic when it comes to Chinese food. They even gave us a complimentary seeet rice soup for dessert and it was soooo good. The servers were also very polite and wanted to ensure we enjoyed everything. I hate to bring down the star level, but I didn't find it impressive. Upon entering, we were confronted with the question, do you have any coupons. We hadn't even sat down yet. Apparently there's a problem with cincysavers. They aren't accepting them. Dodged that bullet. When checking in on the yelp app there's a check in gift of "tea". Although "bubble tea" is their signature drink- that's not what you get. It's a hot or iced tea. I tried to order the spare ribs in black bean sauce with bitter melon, I was informed they were out of it. The next one was spare ribs in black bean sauce. I was informed that there were tiny bones in those ribs. Next choice the chicken curry. I was informed that the legs used in that entree were chopped in half and there would also be tiny bones in that. So finally I chose the Mongolian chicken. Bad choice, I guess. Chicken and a million onions on top of fried noodles with rice on the side. There's a 50¢ upcharge for fried rice. Way too many onions for one entree. I couldn't believe there was not one other vegetable in this dish. My daughter got the chicken lo main. There was good big pieces of chicken in it. There were tons of onions in that with a couple red and green peppers too. Apparently you are supposed to know what's in all the meals because there's absolutely no description. You have to ask. According to the server we should have informed them if we didn't want onions. I really didn't think I'd be eating ONLY onions in a Mongolian meal. Pretty dang tasty! My boyfriend and I stopped by here when our favorite ramen spot was delayed in opening for the morning. We both ordered the exact same thing-- tonkontsu broth with ramen, bok choy, and a boiled egg. The bowl was ENORMOUS, first of all. Like three meals worth. The broth was rich in flavor, but a little too salty for my liking! It was delicious, just gets hard to take after a while. Our waiter was incredibly prompt, and for a restaurant in Clifton, it wasn't very busy, even at lunch time! Curry Laksa w Chicken - this is absolutely incredible!! Flavorful and comes in such a large bowl you may have to take some home. It is mixed with egg & rice noodles with coconut milk, curry, spices, scallions, shrimp and chicken. It's beyond amazing!! Once you try this, you will crave it!! My father actually wished he ordered my soup. General Chaos Chicken and Rice- sauce was perfect and not overpowering. It was great! I love this place! Born and raised in California, I naturally wanted to find a good place for asian food when I came to cincinnati. This was the best place I could find nearby in my first few years. Today I'd say it's my favorite place to go. They have made significant improvements in their menu over the years to what I now consider a decent place for anyone with cravings for asain food. This was a dandy little place that we found in Cincinnati. It's a place that serves Aisan including but not limited to Chinese, Japanese, and Thai. It also has a large array of bubble tea options which is what my daughter partake in. She really enjoyed it a lot ( I'm not a tea drinker so I'm not qualified to comment much on it.) We started with the Crab Rangoon appetizer . They were a little light on the crab flavour but still really good cream cheese flavour. The sweet and sour dipping sauce was one of the best I've ever had. For an entree I got the Spiced Salt Fried Squid. Now this was my first experience with squid and let me tell you it blew me away. They served a bunch of pieces on some lettuce and roasted peppers. The spiced salt was the perfect kinda understated flavour that really helped the squid shine. The squid was cooked perfectly and while chewy like almost all squid dishes are was far from rubbery which often happens with squid (or so I hear.) I ate every last one of them. So after yelping up every possible combination of 'asian' 'chinese' 'bubble tea', this place popped up. Judging by the yelp pictures, looked legit. I ordered a few basic items (was too hungry, didn't check menu): chicken eggroll, hot and sour soup, Jasmine milk tea w/ lychee jelly, sesame shrimp w/ rice, beef lo-mien. After one spoonful of the hot and sour soup, i was SOOO HAPPY. Outside of SoCal, there's always some sort of 'regional' spin to the classic. In arizona, it was adding some veggies and mushrooms, with thin tofu not as flaverful soup. In Eastgate it was thin tofu, with some mystery crunchy veggies (bell pepper?). Suzy Wong's added onion. BUT THIS PLACE, this place retains what I call the H&S soup - Hot, sour, tangy, lots of black fungus mushrooms with a slight crunch, thickly sliced tofu with thin bamboo slivers, lots of egg, and not overwhelmed with chili seeds. Sesame shrimp and beef lo-mien were great, very tasty. Just the right amount of oil and flavor without being overwhelming and full after 3 bites. Satisfied the taste buds the milk tea had great flavor. I dunno if it came from powder or not, but w/e. tasted great and fulfilled my cravings. the delivery person came on time about 30 minutes later (they estimated 38 minutes), but forgot to include the takeout menu. That's ok. Based on their delivery page, they have more traditional items like veggies drizzled with oyster sauce, roast duck, black pepper spareribs, squid with spiced salt... they have a very expansive menu, (unlike other locations that have a 5 beef/chicken/port option with the same sauce.) But yeah. This is the only place so far I've tried in Cincy/Batavia/Williamsburg/New Richmond/ Sharonsville/Dayton etc that has a flavor that is even remotely similar to the chinese food I had in LA. They just earned themselves a loyal customer :) I'm def. gonna be back!!! EDIT: After reading another person's review, apparently they give out complimentary dessert soup for those who dine in! Makes me even more excited - for those who don't know, at traditional chinese restaurants, after you finish your meal, they give you a dessert! One of those unspoken perks of dining in.
