Their five star tablet was out of commission for quite sometime (2 months?) and during which, you had to write down your info manually to have the points added when the system's back online. Hawai'i people looking for shaved ice . Taiwanese snow ice will do. The first time we went we just had basic strawberry snow ice (plain). It was good and filled our craving. It was so good we returned a couple of days later and had the fish made the way they do it with bananas, mochi and a drizzle of chocolate. It was good! Love the online ordering process. As I was under a time crunch and the crew was basically done when I got there. Had a large order of 12 drinks. My friends wouldn't believe that I would wake up early on a Saturday morning, just to stand in line PRIOR to a shop opening. #YelpLife #FreeFood I managed to convince Cindy, Annie, Allen and Huryoung (he had no choice) to come with me for their grand opening! What really enticed me was the FREE bamboo bottle and the FREE drink! Who can say no?! TBH, the drinks here are really okay (it's generally TOO sweet, but the tea is strong) and a bit pricey, but what made this location a 4 stars is because of the family vibe you get here. Teaspoon is my favorite boba joint right now. It's a clean place with a soothing atmosphere. It's not stuffy, loud, or even a booming smell of sweetness overload. Instead, Teaspoon gives that quiet zen vibe where people can actually read or study. The way I describe this tea joint is like a gourmet boba house. They have premium teas, all the different bobas, organic cream, and natural fruit. From the packaging to the straw itself, Teaspoon gives a luxury feel of some sort. They don't have all these different flavors like most boba places do, which is great because that means they fully concentrate on specifics. I enjoyed their Liquid Gold tea drink which was a roasted oolong milk tea with real honey blended inside. It was delicious and exactly what I thought; sweet, creamy, and thick. Prices here can be a little high from $4-$5 but it does make sense given location and excellent quality. The service here is great. I think I found my new favorite boba drink! Something about a warm day in Redwood City drew my eyes directly to the silky mango with honey boba...and let's just say, I've had dreams about it at least once a week. It was light, refreshing, and full of so much flavor. The fresh mango really brings this drink to another level, a level that I have yet to reach at other various boba spots. The mango puree infused with organic milk works so perfectly together. $5.50 for a decent sized drink, is quite a good deal! Being that I don't like coffee that much, I was in Downtown Redwood City looking for a place to work and Teaspoon fit the bill. They have a few tables inside and some outside, along with wifi, which is always a plus. They have so many options for speciality drinks and shaved ice, that I can't wait to go back and try more of their offerings. If you're here in little Downtown Redwood City, skip Bobalicious next to the Museum, skip Happy Lemon next to the theater, and come down a little further to Teaspoon. First of all, Bobalicious uses artificial flavoring and questionable tea quality (can you actually taste the tea?). Happy Lemon also uses artificial flavoring, except bits of dried fruit. Granted, I haven't tried every milk tea place around here, but I have to give a nod to Teaspoon as the best one among what I have tried. I was looking for a bit of a caffeine boost so I ordered Dirty Ube. It's a 22oz cup, about average, with about 6oz of coffee, 6oz of milk, and 4oz of ube, topped with ice. The ube lacked pulp, so it probably wasn't the puree. It seemed like a strange combination, but after mixing it up, it worked. And consider this. I could taste the component of each ingredient in the final product. At Bobalicious next door, I ordered a honey milk tea, half sweet, and could only taste sweetened milk, neither honey nor tea. And I would gladly pay the extra dollar or so at Teaspoon and know that I'm getting what I ordered after seeing them make it. I asked the teenager working at the counter whether their fruit menu items use real fruit, and he says they do. While that's not conclusive, if it's true it lets me know they are about quality. And to be sure, the ube is nowhere near the quantity of ube puree I get a Moo Tea in SoCal where I live, for example. Teaspoon continues being one of my favorite boba spots in the Bay Area, except they're also the only place that won't let me use my own cup during the pandemic. I get it, but still. Anyway, I came here around 5PM on a Sunday and it was pretty empty. They had a sign that said no more boba, but when I ordered, the notice was taken down. Phew! Anyway, I got a Thai tea without ice, and it was good as usual. Thai tea flavor was strong and not too sweet like moist Thai teas although it was still sweet, and the boba was chewy and tasty. $5.25 for a drink is a bit pricey but I guess that's just how it is nowadays. Teaspoon had just opened when I started my new job in Redwood City so cheers to the both of us, lol. I've been to a Teaspoon before in Palo Alto so it wasn't a totally new experience for me coming to this location, but the workers here are friendly and willing to strike up a conversation with you while you wait which was nice. I think it also helps that my co-worker and I are pretty much regulars and when they see him they know they're going to get a small work out because he tends to order a lot. From what I've noticed parking is pretty much all over the streets and metered. There's also the parking garage underneath the movie theater if you plan to stay in the area for a while. They have specials listed as well as snow ice options and if those don't tickle your fancy then they have the "make your own" too which adds up to pretty much the same price as their specials so... huh. I used to be into their liquid gold drink until it got too sweet for me and then I started making my own. Even a simple earl grey black milk tea with boba cost me $5 which seems sort of expensive for a simple drink, but eh... we come here every Friday so it must be that happy Friday mood that makes me okay to fork over the money. Heheh. Overall, I can't say I'm not coming back because their drinks are pretty solid and like I said, my co-worker comes through here a lot and I like to accompany him here to see him order. Grand Opening! We arrived at 11:30am and waited in line until 1pm to get our drinks. But the wait was totally worth it! First 100 people to grand opening get a drink and free glass bamboo bottle, and I just love the bottle and will reuse it to drink water. What I really like about this place is that it allows for great freedom in customization and creativity to suit individual preferences! Also apparently according to their menu, they use natural and fresh ingredients. Parking: Not that convenient since the close-by spaces are often full, but parking is much much cheaper compared to other SF area -- it's only 25 cents for 1 hour here! There is free parking if you look, but it is a tad farther away, so if you're willing to walk and want to save a few cents, find that free parking! Service: Very friendly! While we were waiting in line for the grand opening, little refreshments of fresh fruit, crackers, and samples of their drinks were offered! Inside when we ordered, we received our drinks very quickly. Ordered: 1. Roasted Tea Creama (Contains Lactose), which is dark roasted oolong tea topped with organic cream - I ordered this partly because the triple layer of tea and cream and colors looked especially cool! I ordered 0% sugar, so it was just straight up tea and cream, but if you order around 60% sugar it should be quite tasty still 2. The Grasshopper - Not my type of drink, too sweet for me and seems similar to those jelly juice drinks that are sold at Asian supermarkets. Waited more than 15min for one drink, but the store was hardly busy. There were three other customers who had ordered after me, and received their drinks, but still had a poor wait time. If I had not asked where my drink was, I most likely would have not gotten it. Staff were busy talking and laughing while making customers watch and wait for their drinks. My first Teaspoon experience was at Los Altos and when I learned of their San Mateo location and now this additional location in Redwood City, I was so excited. Now I have 2 locations close to me. I've always liked their unique boba flavors...had their lilikoi special and their carbonated lavender lemonade with crystal boba. This time I chose the Grapefruit Garden and didn't realize that it would be slightly bitter/tart. Not happy with my drink and I probably won't be ordering again. My friends ordered the snow panda shaved snow and it was served so cute to look like a panda and not as pictured on the menu, so that was very surprising--for that, I gave an extra star for the presentation. While cute in presentation, I thought the flavor was a bit lacking and could have had a little more vanilla flavor. On the plus side, there was plenty of Oreo cookie crumbs and mochi balls. The staff was very friendly and service quick and efficient, despite it being extremely busy on this particularly hot day. However, I wished there was more ventilation (like an overhead fan) because it was quite warm inside with so many people waiting. Summer is here and they should consider a fan, turning on their A/C or propping open the door for air. Despite very minor shortcomings, I would still return for their boba drinks. read more

Grabbed an after lunch dessert here and got a black milk tea with boba and a "lady bug". The lady bug had a very sour taste that overwhelmed the drink and eventually led to my gf not finishing it. My black milk tea was pretty good. It was not very sweet, I wish I asked for more than 50% sweetness. It was also a little light on the boba. read more

Their signature drinks are always tasty which made me regret being adventurous and trying the seasonal sweet marshmallow flavor. It's supposed to have a toasted marshmallow syrup with black tea and cream, but I felt that the syrup made the entire drink taste weird. I got my drink with honey boba and 50% sweetness. The honey boba was perfect! Super chewy and soft. They also gave a good portion of boba where I didn't have the situation where my drink finishes before my toppings finish or vice versa. It's too bad the great boba was paired with a drink I didn't like :( The 50% sweetness wasn't really reflected in the drink. It was still a bit too sweet for my liking (probably because of the toasted marshmallow syrup). There aren't too many places to sit here but they do have WiFi and outlets. Giving 4 stars because I tried some of their sample drinks (toffee black tea, peach tea) and I felt that all around the tea flavor was pretty weak. Intriguing and creative teas and milk teas in Downtown Redwood City! Came across this place and their soft opening Sunday afternoon while walking towards the movie theater (the distinct smells of boba sweetener always draws me in wherever I go). After checking out their menu, I definitely wanted to give a drink a try. All the drinks come in a large cup (one size), each for $4.50 not including add-ons such as boba. To quite be honest, I like these cups better than the chubby ones in places such as Purple Kow in SF (HOW DO YOU FIT THEM IN ANY CUPHOLDER?!) I got the Roasted Oolong Crema (boba, almond pudding, half sugar, no ice), which was super aesthetically pleasing when it came out. The white cream layer on top was really cool before I shook it and everything turned milky brown throughout. For me, the drink had the right amount of sweetness, the boba was cooked right, and I could still taste the fragrant oolong tea. While they still have some kinks to workout servicewise in their soft-opening (they almost forgot to give me back change), I think this place will be pretty successful. They have some cool tea drinks I want to try such as the mint mojito (with jasmine tea), so I'll definitely be back! read more

I really wanted to like this spot as it's 5 minutes from my apartment, but all 3 visits thus far have been disappointing. I'll be driving the extra 10 minutes to the San Mateo location from now on. What's so bad about RWC Teaspoon? THE MILK TEA. Their milk tea is always watered down and warm, regardless of what ice level you ask for. The tea coming out of the Thermos is too hot, therefore melting the ice and immediately diluting the drink. We threw out our drinks on 2 occasions because it was just that bad. Sigh. Their fruit teas are passable--not bad but the proportions here are off (too much cucumber/not enough lychee in the Grasshopper, almost all passion fruit and no watermelon in the Flamingo, etc.). Service is friendly but a bit clueless. I've had the wrong drink made and have been charged incorrectly during my few visits. read more

The drink: Liquid Gold - the description says honey Oolong topped with cream. When I received the drink I asked the cashier why the cream is not on top and the response was that they shake it for me. Then I asked another Asian lady who serve my friend's drink the same question, her response was that the sugar will stay at the bottom if they don't shake it. She was nice enough to make me another drink but the second drink came out to be sugar at the bottom and the milky watery tea on top. I kept asking why, where is my cream top? She said the cream mix with the tea itself even without shaking unless I order the "signature cream". ( What the.....) So Teaspoon Redwood City Management Team, your menu is very misleading and your staff have to come up with explanation (excuse) that never make sense. So after tax that's almost $7 for a mediocre house milk tea. Traveling during the pandemic... Teaspoon was the first boba stop for us in the Bay Area after a long drive from Southern California. They seemed like a fine tuned machine cranking drinks out. They try to do everything contactless. You can order your drinks through their website, or even on Yelp. When your drink is ready, they set your drinks down on a table with your name on the drink. So when I stumbled in wanting to order, I wasn't sure where to go or what to do until an employees saw me and took my order. The employees here were top notch! As a confused Southern Californian who was also ordering for my wife and daughter, I changed my order several times including after the drinks were made. But, each time, they gladly "fixed" my issues. Great customer service! The drinks were okay. I normally order drinks in Southern California at 25% to 30% sugar. I was very disappointed with the service at teaspoon. When I walked in I immediately saw two girls, one with blonde hair and one with brown hair, sitting in the back laughing on their phones. This is very unprofessional behavior and made me and my friends feel very unwelcome. They didn't even bother to help us or their coworker out, and ignored all the other customers when they came in. I have not had this issue at other teaspoon locations. My go-to drink is the Grasshopper, which is lychee green tea with cucumber and I always get it with lychee jelly. SO FREAKING REFRESHING!!! Their honey boba is pretty good too though. I also tried their Ladybug which is passionfruit green team with real passionfruit syrup (it has the seeds). You can always customize your sweetness level and amount of ice. I asked my girlfriend to take a sip and she couldn't taste anything either. So I went back inside and waited in line to ask if this was the normal sugar level and if anything could be done. I've been to many teaspoons before and by far this had such irritating customer service. The cashier woman preceded to ask me what sugar level I wanted and I asked for regular, she seemed so confused on what regular was. Honey, regular is 100% at most usual boba places and I literally don't understand why she was not comprehending. Her coworker said they don't have a standard but when she repeated my order, she said less sweet for my other drink that I ordered 75%. So if there's no regular then why did you call my other order less sweet. Then my order was ready and I asked for a bag and she said it was 10 cents. I'm not mad about the 10 cents what I'm irritated about is why she didn't ask me previously if I wanted to purchase a bag during checkout. Obviously I wouldn't have 10 cents on me since I used card. I ordered the Taro Lover (had it and liked it at the San Mateo location) and am glad to update my rating for their Redwood location.
